Facebook Messenger To Get 'Streak' Feature
Facebook is now setting its sights on the streak feature on Snapchat, an addictive game that encourages friends to send messages back and forth. Facebook Messenger streaks include an emoji status to indicate friends that a user is currently in a streak with – who they've messaged for at least three days in a row – and encourages them to keep chatting to keep the streak alive.
Twitter user @CaseSandberg shared a few pictures of how the streak icon actually looks on Messenger, and it's shamefully identical to the one we see on Snapchat. It's not clear how many people are involved in testing Facebook streaks or when it will roll out.

A spokesperson for Facebook Messenger who spoke to Mashable confirmed its testing of the feature, saying:
"For example, a lightning bolt may appear next to the name of a person you've messaged with for at least three days in a row, and a counter will indicate how many consecutive days you've been chatting. We're interested to see if people enjoy this insight, but we don't have any additional information to share at this time."
Streaks have been a popular feature with younger Snapchat users for some time now, with many seeing them as a fun, addictive challenge to see how long they can make a streak last for. In fact, streaks have been a proven method of retaining users for an unusually long period of time on the platform.
Earlier this week, Facebook announced the roll-out of a consolidated stories feature for all those part of the 'events' and 'groups' pages on the platform, along the lines of Snapchat Stories.

Facebook loves to steal Snapchat features to block the popular messaging app's momentum. With around 173 million users, Snapchat is a far smaller deal than Facebook who have 1.2 billion users while Instagram boasts 800 million monthly users as of September. It's a well-known fact that Facebook has been heavily inspired by Snapchat Stories and has already pushed this feature on every possible platform. Right from Instagram to WhatsApp, Stories are everywhere. Snap Inc stocks have been slowly depreciating ever since its IPO happened a few months ago.
