Google Managed To Jailbreak The iPhone

A Google security researcher announced last week that he will be releasing the necessary information needed to jailbreak the iPhone. Android has been known for having too many options to customise your smartphone and it seems like there might be a way to do it on your latest iPhone too.

Jailbreaking refers to a method which basically hacks into the operating system of a device, in this case, Apple's iOS. Jailbreaking gives the ability to install any application you desire and customisations to the interface. You can even run emulators and do things with your iPhone that is natively blocked by Apple. Developers have not been able to jailbreak the iPhone since iOS 10 released —until today. Google's Ian Beer promised a while back that he would find a way to jailbreak the iPhone and will be releasing the necessary tools required to do so.

Beer works at Google's Project Zero and is focused on finding security flaws that would make devices vulnerable to hacking. Beer then informs companies of flaws that need fixing and gives at least 90 days to get their shit in order. If the security flaw is not fixed in 90 days, the team then releases the information to the public. Beer found an exploit in iOS 11.1.2 that was fixed on December 2nd. On Monday, Beer followed through on his promise to give away his findings and tweeted a link to the code.

The moment the link was made public, hackers managed to make the code into a full-on working jailbreak code. Beer released the code only for research purposes. Even though a jailbreak has been found, someone has to turn it into an app that will let users jailbreak easily. Knowing how things work, we can confidently say that it is already being done.

This will be of great interest to people who like to customise their iPhones and have some cool features just like any other Android smartphone. However, one should only jailbreak an iPhone if you are willing to take the security risk of running an outdated and hacked system on the device.
