LAHORE: The Federal Bureau of Revenue has sought income details of renowned folk singer of Pakistan, Arif Lohar.

According to the FBR sources, there were reservations over the income statements of the singer, which is why he has been asked to submit details of his income earned over the past three years.

Arif has been given 15 days to submit the sought details, the sources further said, adding action would be initiated against him if he failed to do so.

FBR has prepared a list of a number of artists from Lahore and Karachi to issue similar notices. However, their names are kept confidential until notices are issued to them. Arif?s name has been disclosed as a relevant notice was sent to him.

As per the sources, the list has been prepared keeping into consideration the expenditure of the artists, which is in hundreds of thousands but in turn they only pay a few thousands in taxes.

A few months back, FBR sealed the houses of two actors, Noor and Saba Qamar, after they were reportedly found to have evaded tax payment.

FBR had stated Noor defaulted on tax worth Rs1.5 million, while Qamar defaulted on Rs3.4 million. As per FBR, their houses were sealed after the two actors did not respond to notices sent to them.
