Garmin Vivofit 4 Announced with Year Long Battery And Colour Display

Garmin has just launched a brand new, affordable wearable fitness tracker with a colour display and they claim that it also has a 1-year battery life.

Unlike most fitness trackers that last a few days on a single charge, the Vivofit 4 has a battery that will stay powered for over a year. There's no sort of charging required, meaning you can just unbox the wearable, set it up, and you're good to go. When you do eventually run out of juice, you can easily take off the back of the Vivofit 4 and replace the two SR43 batteries that typically cost just a few bucks.

You can now check your activity goals or the time without having to either wake up the screen, kill your battery or settle for a drab monochrome display. Logically, the band includes Garmin mainstays like Move IQ automatic activity detection and the Connect online community to get you motivated.

Of course, the Vivofit 4 can also serve simply as a watch, featuring a countdown timer, stopwatch, and multiple alarms. And with the weather widget, you need only to look at your wrist to determine whether you need an umbrella.

You'll be able to customize your display in the Garmin Connect smartphone app, changing colour themes and selecting widgets. You can also treat it like a watch with that always-on screen displaying the time, and the ability to set multiple alarms.

Right out of the box, the Vívofit 4 starts tracking steps and encourages users to stay active with a coloured move bar that fills up when a user has been stationary for too long. It also assigns daily step goals based on current activity levels which automatically adjust to the user, gradually nudging them toward a healthier, more active lifestyle.

“An activity tracker is only as effective as how often you wear it, and this is where the Vivofit 4 really shines — you can set it and forget it,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin Vice President of worldwide sales. “It's the ideal device for customers who want something reliable that they don't need to hassle with or take off to recharge.”

Garmin is introducing the Vivofit 4 today at a tempting $80, which is $20 cheaper than the Vivofit 3's original price. It's available in white, black and a lime green speckled variant, with other bands available separately.
