Over 1 Million People Have Signed A Petition To Reverse The Snapchat Redesign

The recent redesign of Snapchat is having devoted users of the social app throw fierce temper tantrums that border with psychosis. Actually, close to a million people are so infuriated with Snapchat, that they have signed a petition that's calling for the original design of Snapchat to be brought back from the dump as soon as possible.

Chief Executive Evan Spiegel said on the company's full-year earnings call recently, that the aim of the redesign was to make the app "simpler and easier to use, especially for older users."

However, there appear to be a lot of users that don't like it.

The update now sees users swipe left to see content and interactions with friends, and swipe right to see news and other public content. The photo and video-sharing app has updated to separate content and interactions with friends from the public and branded content from news services and other businesses.

Under the new redesign, Snapchat has combined stories and messages from friends on the left screen and then collated stories from celebrities and brands as well as curated media content in one panel on the right. This has led to complaints from users that it is now more difficult for them to find new stories and messages from people they interact with the most.

The petition posted on Change.org was started by Australian man Nic Rumsey, who said that many users are resorting to VPN apps to get rid of the new design and get back to the old Snapchat as “that's how annoying this new update has become”.

Celebrities have also voiced their concerns over the changes as Snapchat is a platform that has helped many of them build their brand and keep them relatable to fans.

While it's unlikely that Snapchat will completely redesign the app again, it could well make some incremental changes that address the most common issues that users are having. In a statement, the company said: “Updates as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in.”
