REUTERS/Maxim ShemetovPARIS: A US-sponsored resolution to the FATF to consider placing Pakistan on the watchlist of countries that financially aid terrorism remained inconclusive after the meeting here concluded on "no consensus", the country's foreign minister said.
Khawaja Asif confirmed on Twitter that "no consensus [could be reached] for nominating Pakistan" to be added to the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) list of nations that monetarily support terrorism.
Expressing gratitude at the decision, Asif said "our efforts paid [off]" and that the convening states agreed to "proposing 3months pause &asking APG for another report to b considered in June".
"Grateful to friends who helped," the minister added.
The FATF is working together with the Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG), which, as per its website, aims to ensure "that its members effectively implement the international standards against money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing related to weapons of mass destruction".
After 9/11, "the APG expanded its scope to include the countering of terrorist financing".
