After a mediocre performance in the first innings, Indian team managed to crawl their way back in the second Test in Bengaluru after bowling out the visiting Australians pretty cheaply during the third day's play.
Continuing with the overnight score of 237/6, Steven Smith's team lost all of their remaining wickets in an hourβs time with a lead of 87 runs in the first innings.
While Ravichandran Ashwin failed to make a mark with figures of 2-84, his partner Ravindra Jadeja turned out to be a revelation with impressive figures of 6-63.
Despite Jadeja getting purchase from the wicket, Indian skipper Virat Kohli chose to curtail his bowling spells and relied more on his premier spinner Ashwin and the two seamers - Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav.
For a bowler who bowled terrific lines and never allowed the opposition batsmen to settle down, Kohli's move didn't just backfire, but was also unjust for Jadeja who was given only 22 overs in comparison to the 49 overs bowled by Ashwin.
With limited opportunities at hand, Jadeja made the most of his bowling spells, dismissing the likes of Matt Renshaw, Steven Smith, Peter Handscomb, Matthew Wade, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood.
Kohli's ploy to use Ashwin more than Jadeja clearly didn't work in the first innings, but if India manages to post a good total in the second innings, the Indian captain will surely be eager to correct his mistake by using the left-arm spinner more frequently to peg Australia back.

Kohli must be glad that Ravindra Jadeja's dad is not Yograj Singh.#INDvsAUS
