China Is Now Discouraging Jaywalkers By Spraying Them With Water At Crossings

You know how you can train cats by spraying them with water and that is supposed to help with discouraging bad behaviour? (btw, it doesn't work, I'm talking from personal experience.)

But, since this was a well-known behaviour altering technique, China probably thought that maybe it would work on humans.

To target jaywalking and to stop people from doing that, China has now installed systems that are set up on both sides of the crossings that could spray water whenever they detected any person walking past the posts.

Just imagine, you decide to walk to work and then just because you're a little impatient, you get soaked in water before you even reach your office. If that doesn't ruin someone's day, then I don't know what will.

A video of the four yellow bollards, measuring 1.6-foot-tall, set up at the pavement in Daye of Hubei Province, emerged online. So basically, these bollards are connected to the traffic system and will also tell people when the lights will change.

A voice message will play saying something like, “It is now green light, please cross and be careful.” Similarly, when the light is red, it will say, “You are running red lights now. Please do not cross, it is dangerous.”

Now, that's futuristic.

Moreover, every jaywalking offender will have their face snapped onto a large display screen near the crossing.

So basically, when you can't discourage someone, public humiliation is the answer.

I wonder if these would be effective if they were installed here in India. But maybe, people will cross it on purpose to get some relief during these horrible summer months.
