You must have heard great things about one of the smartest investor of all time, Warren Buffett and how he manages to wow us all with his skills. But here is a look at a slightly quirkier aspect of his life that most of us are unaware about. 

1. He once ran away from home.

Warren, along with two of his friends, once tried to run away from home. He says, “We got out to Wisconsin Avenue and we started hitchhiking. Three kids hitchhiking was not the easiest thing to do."

He further adds, “The first guy that picked us up was a real nut. We all got into the car and we said, 'Where are you going?' And he said, 'I'm going to hell, do you want to come along?' And we immediately decided this was not exactly what we'd expected."

They eventually made their way home but not before reaching Hershey, Pennsylvania.

2. He shoplifted from Sears as a teen

Warren spent the majority of his life in Omaha, Nebraska but later his father was elected to Congress and they had to move to Washington, D.C. for a while. Things did not tune in so well for Warren, who wasn't too happy about the move. He says "I was rebellious at first in school, for about year. I made a real pain of myself, but I calmed down after a while." 

One of his rebellious acts included shoplifting from a local Sears. Warren says, "I wasn't doing it for any reason, except rebelling, and that ran out after a while."

3. He earned $175 a month delivering papers

Delivering papers for The Washington Post was one of the first few jobs Warren had tried his hands on. That newspaper delivery job earned him $175 a month. 

4. He still uses coupons

The self-made billionaire investor still values a good deal if it comes handy. Warren once bought Bill Gates, lunch at McDonald's with coupons. Have you been shying from using coupons all the while till now?

5. His love for soda.

Did you know Warren spent more than $1 billion on Coca-Cola stock in 1988? He says, "I'm one quarter Coca-Cola. If I eat 2,700 calories a day, a quarter of that is Coca-Cola. I drink at least five 12-ounce servings."

6. His high school yearbook called him a 'future stock broker'

In the yearbook from Woodrow Wilson Senior High in D.C. Warren was listed as "a future stock broker." Today as we all know rest is history and Warren is undoubtedly the smartest investor of our time. 

Warren says, "Before I came to Washington, I had about $120 and when I left, I had about $10,000.”
