While We're Saving Money For A Bullet, A Man In Gurugram Stole A Harley After A Test Drive

Bizarre cases of criminals teeing off with valuables and cash have become the order of the day, but this case, in particular, is like no other. In Gurugram, an interested buyer fled with a Harley Davidson bike worth Rs 10 lakh from sector 34. The accused got in touch with the seller through an online app and asked for a test drive after paying a token amount of Rs 7000.

Rahul Nagar, the accused, contacted Ajay Singh, a resident of Palam Vihar through the buyer-seller app and expressed his interest to buy the second-hand bike. The two connected over WhatsApp and agreed to meet for a physical inspection of the bike.

The accused didn't seem like a criminal at first to Singh who said that he introduced himself as a marble businessman who shipped marble stones to Canada.

“He met me at Cyber Hub around 11.30am, inspected the bike and said he will revert soon. He spoke in fluent English. He had extensive knowledge of motorcycles and seemed like a genuine buyer,” Singh said.

At around 3.40 pm that day, Singh again received a call from the accused who asked him to come to the Capital Harley-Davidson showroom so that he could check the history of the bike. “After he inquired with the staff about the bike's history, we closed the deal at Rs 7 lakh, he gave me the token amount, and asked for a test-ride,” said Singh.

Singh was alarmed when the accused didn't return after the test drive and switched off his phone. He immediately approached the police and lodged an FIR. The police are now looking for the accused through CCTV visuals outside the showroom.

“Visuals of the accused were captured on CCTV cameras inside and outside the showroom. We are scanning the footage to identify him,” said Sudeep Kumar, SHO, Sadar police station.
