In 2017, the hashtag 'Me Too' took social media and the whole world by storm. With more and more women coming forward mustering courage to share their stories, we realised that there's more to it than what meets the eyes.
Sadly, with time it became a joke or just another random hashtag for some people. But, this doesn't take away from the fact that women still continue to face sexual harassment at work. And Actress Tanushree Dutta's story has once again opened the doors to a fresh set of debate sessions.
Some incidents that take place even a decade ago remain fresh in your memory. What happened with #TanushreeDutta on the sets of “Horn Ok Please” is one such incident - I was there. #NanaPatekar

A decade after the release of 'Horn Ok Pleassss', Tanushree made the shocking revelation that veteran actor Nana Patekar harassed her on the movie sets, during the shoot of a song. For those questioning her intentions and asking why it took her 10 years to open up, she did file a complaint with CINTAA (Cine and TV Artists' Association) in 2008 stating that she felt uncomfortable shooting a song with Patekar, but her plea went unheard.

In fact, CINTAA even accepted that it did not "address" Tanushree's sexual harassment allegation against Patekar and are extending their support to her now. In their official statement posted on Twitter, CINTAA wrote, "CINTAA strongly condemns any act that outrages the modesty of any individual and any form of sexual harassment is unacceptable to us."
It further mentioned, "After going through Ms Tanushree Dutta's complaint, which was filed with the then Executive Committee of CINTAA in March 2008, we feel that the decision taken in the Joint Dispute Settlement Committee of CINTAA & IFTPC in July 2008 was not appropriate, as the chief grievance of sexual harassment wasn't even addressed."

— CINTAA_Official (@CintaaOfficial) October 2, 2018CINTAA mentioned that they can't reopen this case as it 10 years old. However, the Senior Joint Secretary has reportedly given a statement where he has expressed to hear the case if both the parties approach the association.
In the wake of this shocking revelation, while most of the Bollywood fraternity wishes to stay mum on this issue, a lot of celebrities have come out in support of Tanushree. From Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chadha, Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, Twinkle Khanna, Kajol, Anurag Kashyap to Sonam Kapoor, Frieda Pinto and more; actors are standing strong with her.
This thread is very telling. @janiceseq85 was there at the time of the incident being debated today. Even when #TanushreeDutta had career concerns to keep quiet 10 years ago she did not & her story hasn't changed now. Her courage should be admired, not her intention questioned. https://t.co/Ola3MNdmtS

— PRIYANKA (@priyankachopra) September 28, 2018Many of my co-workers,female and male have been harassed and bullied, but it's their story to tell. If we don't encourage their voices and instead vilify and question them, how will victims ever become survivors? Let them speak up! Stand up with them!
— Sonam K Ahuja (@sonamakapoor) September 28, 2018Please read this thread. We all know the reality of the power imbalance that exists in the workplace. Let us encourage these voices instead of shaming them so that others may have the strength to come forward. https://t.co/5NefCpWpCs
— Konkona Sensharma (@konkonas) September 28, 2018If my previous tweet sounds vague let me clarify it. This should stop the questioning of intention of Tanushree Datta because there is a witness account of what happened and @janiceseq85 is as credible as the come .
— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) September 28, 2018It hurts to be #TanushreeDutta rn. To be alone, questioned. No woman wants publicity that opens the floodgates of trolling and insensitivity. What happened to her on set was intimidation. Her only fault was she didn't back down-takes a special courage to be #TanushreeDutta.
— TheRichaChadha (@RichaChadha) September 27, 2018Please read this thread before judging or shaming #TanushreeDutta a working environment without harassment and intimidation is a fundamental right and by speaking up this brave woman helps pave the way towards that very goal for all of us! https://t.co/f8Nj9YWRvE
— Twinkle Khanna (@mrsfunnybones) September 28, 2018Will this also die a natural death with no formal complaint, no proper investigation and no punitive action against the predator if he is found guilty? Honestly, I am cynical about the outcome. These offenders go scot free because our outrage is short-lived. #TanushreeDutta https://t.co/iHTBa0VQY9
— Hansal Mehta (@mehtahansal) September 28, 2018Tanushree, who has been sent two legal notices by Nana Patekar and film maker Vivek Agnihotri, continues to stay strong as this situation worsens with each passing day. She said, "This is the price you pay for speaking out against harassment, humiliation, and injustice in India." Tanushree further thanked Mumbai police for lending support and 24 hours protection to her.
The 'MeToo' movement has encouraged many women to come forward and speak up. We are not supporting either party, nor are we wishing to side with Tanushree or Nana Patekar, but it's high time that we all should listen to people who speak up, instead of jumping on conclusions that it is all for publicity.
