Marvel fans, listen up, we have some great news for you!

Tom Hardy is returning to the superhero genre! The Academy Award nominee is set to play the role of ‘Venom’ in a Spiderman spin-off, which is set to release in October of next year.

The upcoming spin-off will focus on one of Spiderman’s most notorious antagonists, Venom, who was previously played by Topher Grace in Spider Man 3. The movie will be directed by Ruben Fleischer, whose previous credits include ‘Zombieland’.

Hardy will play the character of Eddie Brock, a freelance photographer who accidentally becomes infected by an alien lifeform that needs a host in order to survive.

Sony broke the news on Twitter by posting a picture of Tom hardy wearing a ‘Venom’ tshirt.

Reportedly, ‘Venom’ is only the beginning of a series of movies from Sony’s Marvel and Spider-Man universe. Other projects under development by the studio include a film including Black Cat and Silver Sable.

Tom Hardy playing Venom would mean that he will have played villains for both Marvel and DC, having already played the role of Bane in 2012’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.
