Kilian Jornet was probably high out of his mind – 29,029 ft to be exact.
Breaking a world record, the Spanish mountaineer managed to climb Mount Everest in just 26 hours, that too without the use of bottled oxygen or fixed ropes. The 29-year-old started off from Everest base camp at 10 pm on Saturday and started ascending the North Face for more than 11,000 feet and reaching the more than 5-mile high summit at midnight, on Monday. If that isn’t impressive, we don’t know what is.

According to Kilian’s blog, he did not face any major issues while climbing until he got near the end of his climb.
“Until I reached 25,200 feet, I felt really good and was making progress as planned but then I started to feel unwell, probably from a stomach virus,” Jornet wrote on his blog about the climb. “From then on I made slow progress and had to keep stopping to recover. I finally reached the summit at midnight.”

The Himalayan Times also reported that Kilian now holds speed records on the famed peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Aconcagua, Denali, Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.

On his blog, Kilian said that his initial plan was to return to Everest base camp at 16,700 ft but, due to stomach problems, he stayed at the Everest advanced base camp at roughly 21,000 ft to recover.

What he has managed to achieved is incredibly impressive but if you have a look at his whole career, this latest record is no surprise. Kilian is most renowned for FKTs, or “Fastest Known Times” and regularly and effortlessly scrambles up and down the world’s tallest and most precarious peaks.

It’ll be interesting to see what he has planned next, after broken made a world record last weekend. Seems like no mountain is too high for him.
