HAMBURG: German police and protestors clashed Thursday at an anti-G20 march in Hamburg, with police using water cannon and tear gas to clear a hardcore of masked anti-capitalist demonstrators, AFP reporters said.

Protestors threw stones, firecrackers and bottles at police. Riot police in helmets charged in order to disperse a group of around 1,000 hard-left protestors wearing black hooded tops and masks.

TheΒ protest march has been called off after clashes, police said.
