Before playing their opening encounter against eternal rivals Pakistan, Virat Kohli and Co. begin their T20 World Cup campaign with two warm-up games against England and Australia.
Ahead of their first warm-up match against Eoin Morgan’s side on Monday, former India skipper MS Dhoni, who recently guided Chennai Super Kings to their fourth IPL title, joined the Indian team in his new role as a mentor.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted pictures of the 40-year-old legend as he met with the support staff, including head coach Ravi Shastri, batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Bharat Arun, and fielding coach R Sridhar.
Dhoni can be seen doing shadow-batting with Shastri and Rathour standing on either side. Watching Dhoni wearing Team India’s blue jersey was a delight for millions of fans, who had been eagerly waiting for this moment since the last two months ever since the announcement was made by the BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

“Extending a very warm welcome to the KING @msdhoni is back with #TeamIndia and in a new role!” the BCCI wrote on the micro-blogging site.
While majority of the fans were delighted to have Dhoni back with the Indian team, some Virat Kohli supporters took offense to the BCCIs’ tweet referring to him as the ‘King’. Taking to Twitter, they argued there was only one king in the team and that was Kohli, who has been nicknamed ‘King Kohli’ by his die-hard fans.
The word 'KING'.... there can't be two kings in a single team...only one ,super one KING KOHLI

    — . (@Being__Radhe__) October 17, 2021While Dhoni and Kohli supporters are often seen indulging in unnecessary fights on social media, the two modern-day greats share mutual admiration for each other and it was clearly evident when the RCB skipper had congratulated the CSK talisman on his powerful cameo in Qualifier 1 against Delhi Capitals last week.
Their fans might not approve of the BCCI’s tweet but Kohli himself had described Dhoni as “King” after he scored 18 off just six balls and finished the game for his side.
“Anddddd the king is back the greatest finisher ever in the game. Made me jump Outta my seat once again tonight. @msdhoni,” Kohli had tweeted.

When asked about Dhoni’s presence in the dressing room during the T20 World Cup, Kohli had said that he was “absolutely delighted” to have him around and his presence would boost the morale of the entire squad, especially the younger players who will be playing their first major tournament for the Indian team.

“He makes a difference when he is in a leadership role in any team. Absolutely delighted to have him in the environment. He will certainly boost the morale of this team further,” Kohli had said at the pre-tournament press conference.

“He has always been a mentor for all of us, when we were starting our careers at that time he played and now he has the same opportunity to continue the same again. Especially for the younger guys who are in early stages of their career, just experience that he has gained over the years and having conversations with him about the game,” he added.

Instead of finding ways to put two legends of the game at loggerheads, it would be great if fans could give up their allegiance to their favourite players and spend all their energy in supporting each and every individual associated with the Indian team.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was arrested and was later released on an interim bail in relation to a First Information Report (FIR) for allegedly using casteist remarks against leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on social media.
The southpaw, while talking about his TikTok videos that he used to make during the lockdown last year, had referred to Indian wrist-pinner Chahal using a word that is considered to be derogatory for a certain community in India.

“Yeh bh*ngi log ko kaam nahi hai yeh Yuzi aur isko (Kuldeep),” Yuvraj had said during an Instagram Live session with Rohit Sharma in June last year, when the country was under lockdown.

His remarks had caused a huge uproar on social media and earlier this year a police complaint was filed against him. After the things escalated, the former cricketer even issued an apology for his “unintentional remarks”.

“I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same. My love for India and all its people is eternal,” Yuvraj had apologised via a tweet.
The complaint was filed by a lawyer, acting upon which the Haryana Police filed an FIR under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Singh made these comments during an Instagram Live session with India’s limited-overs captain Rohit during the lockdown last year. Many deemed his comments to be offensive to the Dalit community and angry people from all over the country took to the social media in large numbers and ran a hashtag #YuvrajSinghMaafiMaango on the micro-blogging site and their outrage pressured him into accepting his mistake and issuing an apology.

While his arrest was only symbolic as he was released on an interim bail, it proved that in democratic set-up no one is above the law. Whether you are a renowned celebrity or a common man, both are equal in the eyes of the judiciary.
This arrest is significant. It shows that no one is above law. No matter who you are you have a limit. An ordinary man ( lower caste) has the same dignity as you enjoy as a high profile celebrity.

Singh in his apology had said that hurting anyone’s sentiments was never his intention and he was misunderstood. However, it shows how negligent he was towards the marginalised communities.
The most worrying thing was the casualness with which he used the word to mock Chahal without even realising that the word he was using is disrespectful to a certain Indian community and would hurt their sentiments.

Many people consider Singh to be a role model but his action was certainly not what we expect of our icons. Being a public-figure it was his responsibility to think twice before saying anything.
