From finishing second from bottom last year to lifting their fourth IPL trophy, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) etched a fairytale comeback.
From the lows of the last year to finishing on the pinnacle, this turnaround had every ingredient to make for a perfect movie script.
Now that the season is over, the focus has shifted on the future of the franchise and which players should they retain ahead of the mega auction next year.
View this post on InstagramFans and cricket experts are divided in their opinions, some think MS Dhoni should continue to lead the franchise next year as well, while others like South Africa legend Shanu Pollock believe he has already won everything that was there to be won and has nothing to prove.
The former South Africa all-rounder believes that having won the title after last year’s setback, there couldn’t be better timing for Dhoni to announce his retirement as he would be leaving with his head held high like a true champion.
Pollock even added that he would be surprised if the Ranchi-born cricketer decided to play the IPL next year.
“What more he has to prove? To play in yours 40s, to have won as many as trophies he has, to bounce back from the way they played last year. It would have been very disappointing had he not played this year after the way he finished last year. But sometimes things just align and the timing seems perfect. I don’t expect him to come out and say ‘look I am retiring, that’s my victory’ he will probably leave it in one or two weeks’ time, but I will be very surprised if he returns,” Pollock said on the Cricbuzz Live show.

The 40-year-old keeper might not have contributed with the bat during this just-concluded campaign but his decision-making from behind the stumps was one of the reasons why they were able to stage a remarkable comeback and prove their critics wrong who had labelled them as ‘Dad’s Army’ and demanded a complete overhaul in their squad after last year’s disastrous outing.
Ignoring the outside noise, the CSK talisman showed faith in the abilities of the same group of players and it worked wonders as they were one of the teams to beat this season from start to finish.
© Instagram IPL
While his leadership is still top-notch, Dhoni doesn’t look a shadow of his old self when it comes to batting. He struggled throughout the season and, barring one innings, kept pushing himself down the order, knowing he was out of touch.
The upcoming mega auction will provide the teams with a chance to build their squads for the next three years and it’s highly unlikely that Dhoni would be there till the end. So, it makes sense that he asks the franchise to not use their retention card on him and instead retain players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja around whom the squad can be built around for the next two three years.
© Twitter CSK
While the CSK management wants him to lead the squad next year as well, Dhoni has said that whether he plays the IPL next year or not depends on the BCCI and how many retentions do they allow before going into the mega auction.
This is quite a big conundrum for the legendary skipper and knowing Dhoni, whatever decision he takes would be done keeping in mind CSK's best interest.

Bad, unprecedented, traumatic events often end up changing one’s life in a way that can’t be changed back.
And seems like, starkid Aryan Khan might just be an example of it, for he might not come out the same person as he was when he entered one of his biggest controversies of life after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested him on drug-related charges.
Shah Rukh Khan’s son who was arrested on October 2nd and has been at the Arthur Road Jail ever since his bail was denied is also being subjected to jail counselling by the NCB officials much like his other inmates.
© Twitter
According to reports, it was during one of these counselling sessions where Aryan assured the NCB officials of his earnest attitude and said that he would make sure to work for the 'welfare of the poor' and never do anything that would put him in a bad light out there or besmirch his name.
In his own words at this counselling session, Aryan Khan promised to work towards and for “social and financial uplift of the poor and downtrodden" and would never even dream of taking any step in his life that would bring him such public disgrace.
The session was apparently held in presence of NCB officer and lead investigator on the case - Sameer Wankhede as well as social workers to oversee the process.
© Twitter
The official confirmed by reiterating, “He said `I will do something that will make you proud of me. He [Khan] said that he will work for the society now and devote himself to the service of the country and the underprivileged."
This counselling was done with Aryan Khan as well as seven others who have been arrested by the NCB after the raid at the cruise ship.
At present, Aryan Khan will continue staying at Arthur Road Jail until October 20 which is when Special NDPS court judge VV Patil will pronounce the order on his bail application.
© Twitter
And considering Aryan is only 23-years-old, facing charges relating to drugs and spending days until his trial cooped in the jail, we can imagine just how traumatic or intense the entire experience could be for him and his family.

It is time for the T20 World Cup 2021, which means that the epic rivalry between India and Pakistan will once again be put on a rare display for all the international cricket fans.
It also means that the legends from the two nations will finally get to sit next to each other and talk about their passion at the same table.
On Saturday evening, former Pakistani cricketer and pacer, Shoaib Akhtar shared some pictures of him spending some quality time with some of the ‘all-time greats’ from India, including the opening batter Sunil Gavaskar and the 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev.
Chilling with the best of the best.

— Shoaib Akhtar (@shoaib100mph) October 16, 2021
“Chilling with the best of the best. The great Zaheer Abbas, Sunil Gavaskar & Kapil Dev. All set for the cricket ka maha muqabla,” Akhtar wrote in the caption as he tweeted the wholesome pictures.
Unfortunately, his fans from Pakistan did not think of these pictures as wholesome. Instead, they took them as an insult and called their pacer an “Indian bootlicker”.

— Nasir Hamdani (@NasirHamdani11) October 17, 2021Akhtar and his candid nature have been loved and adored by his fans in India.
Despite the political issues keeping the two sides from having bilateral series, it is through the pacer’s YouTube channel and other social media platforms that the two sides continue to interact and appreciate each other.
However, with the recent misfortunes of the Pakistan Cricket Board, in which New Zealand and England withdrew themselves from having a bi-lateral series in Pakistan due to security threats, their national government has blamed the Indian Intelligence forces for throwing a wrench in their plans.

— Government of Pakistan (@GovtofPakistan) September 22, 2021
As a result, Pakistani fans have once again become hostile towards their Indian counterparts and hence, the negative backlash towards one of their own for mixing up and chatting with the Indian legends.
India and Pakistan are scheduled to lock horns on October 24, 2021 (Sunday) in the Round of 12 of the T20 World Cup 2021 at the Dubai International Stadium.
This will be their first encounter since the World Cup 2019 in England which India had won by 89 runs. The Men in Blue are still undefeated versus Pakistan in the T20 and 50-over World Cups.

‘The Rock’ aka Dwayne Johnson is back to rock our world (pun intended) with yet another blockbuster as he gears up to be introduced as ‘Black Adam’, DC comics’ next supervillain.
While, by now, we would have acclimatized ourselves to see Dwayne as the ultimate good guy, in both life and in movies, the narrative is about to change, especially, after we just got the first look of Johnson in and as ‘Black Adam’.
Ladies & gents…
Enjoy your WORLD EXCLUSIVE first look️
He is ruthless.
He is unstoppable.
He is the reason the hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is about to change.
He is #BLACKADAM
The Man in Black has come around...#DCFanDome@SevenBucksProd@flynnpictureco pic.twitter.com/nv4oRmaLlq
— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) October 16, 2021
The one-and-half-minute trailer, which left us with goosebumps, starts with archaeologists accidentally zapping Black Adam with a lightning bolt.
As Dwayne appears in a hooded figure, he literally grabs a guy by his neck and crushes him to dust while others witness the horror.
As they fire bullets at him, the hooded figure (Black Adam) catches a bullet mid air while he stands bulletproof to the rest of them.
As the title of the movie appears, Black Adam rises in the air and that is when the scene is cut.
Thanks to the DC fandome event, us DC universe fans finally got a whiff of what's to come and by the looks of it, Dwayne is not going to disappoint us with Black Adam.
© DC Entertainment
What’s more surprising is that Dwayne himself has waited for this moment longer than his fans have, for he’s been in awe of the DC universe for years and was promised to be made part of the Shazam adjacent film from as far back as 2007.
Even though he was in the talks to appear in the movie Shazam as the main villain from 2007, it was in 2014 when he finally announced his upcoming movie after the studio decided to spin off Black Adam’s character into its own spin-off franchise film.
Now, it’s 2021 and the shoot has finally begun and we can’t keep calm.
© DC Entertainment
In fact, actor Pierce Brosnan, who will be essaying the role of Dr. Fate, shared, “I haven’t seen anything like this before…I haven’t done James Bond for ten years and I’ve seen nothing like this,” right before the clip was shared.
Talking about the super villainous character ‘Black Adam’, the comic argued that he might be just as or even a tad bit more powerful than Superman himself, especially since he too possessed every power that Superman has.
Fans are reacting to the trailer and calling it “epic”, and rightly so. Having grabbed everyone’s attention and how, the movie is slated to be released on July 29, 2022.

Recent reports have suggested Rahul Dravid is set to become the head coach of the Indian cricket team as soon as the T20 World Cup 2021 will be over.
And now, the Men in Blue skipper, Virat Kohli has spoken on what he knows about the development of this situation.
"No idea exactly what's happening on that front. No detailed discussion with anyone yet," Kohli told the media members just a day before the tournament is scheduled to begin.
What a news#RahulDravid pic.twitter.com/YEkPTQIXsm
— GANESH YADAV TAMMALALA (@Ganeshyadav1404) October 16, 2021
On Friday, a BCCI official had informed The Times of India about the confirmation of Dravid as the next head coach of Team India until the end of the 2023 season.
The report also shares that while Dravid was initially hesitant about taking up the role and wanted to spend time focusing on the younger cricketers of the country as the director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), the Indian cricket board was able to convince him to take up this job.
If it’s true Rahul Dravid is to be the next Indian coach I think the rest of the world better beware … !
— Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) October 15, 2021
It was also revealed that Dravid’s trusted lieutenant, Paras Mhambrey, is also being brought on board to serve as the bowling coach.
“He (Dravid) was re-appointed as the NCA head last month. But the BCCI needed a strong candidate to take Indian cricket forward. He has worked so hard to develop the next line of Indian cricketers. Even Mhambrey knows this next lot of players like the back of his hand. So, Ganguly and Shah thought it would be best if they could bring both of them on board. They will assume charge from the New Zealand series after the World Cup,” added the source.
Till yesterday news reports were saying Rahul Dravid was going to stay at the NCA. Yet early morning news broke of him becoming India coach. So what happened around midnight? My best guess is Lord Shardul blew candles on his birthday cake wishing to be coached by Rahul bhai
— Wasim Jaffer (@WasimJaffer14) October 16, 2021
It is for this reason alone that the former Indian skipper had reapplied for the role of NCA boss back in August. “He will be stepping down as the head of the NCA soon,” the BCCI source added.
It is believed that Dravid’s first assignment as the head of Team India’s coaching staff will be against the touring New Zealand squad, who will be in India for three T20Is and two Test matches in the second half of November and December.
Rahul Dravid has been approached for being team India's Head Coach for the New Zealand series. (Reported by Inside Sport).
— Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) October 14, 2021
This will also be the first T20I series after Kohli would have stepped down as the captain of the team and the authority would be given to his teammate, presumably Rohit Sharma.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings’ fourth championship in the Indian Premier League feels shows the duo’s incredible resilience and the willingness to make a strong comeback, especially, after the disappointing season they had back in 2020.
From finding themselves at the bottom of the points table, second only to Rajasthan Royals and that too on the basis of a fraction of the run-rate difference, Dhoni’s squad took over the entire season and finished the tournament with a mighty 27-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.
Danny Morrison: Could this be your last game in yellow jersey?
MS Dhoni: Definitely not. pic.twitter.com/z7ZyPIIYSo
— Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) November 1, 2020
Last year, when CSK failed to make it to the Playoffs, there were speculations about the skipper and his probability of coming back to the franchise.
“Definitely not,” he had said back then and this year has proven that the master strategist that Dhoni is, might be enough for him to win a title, even if he is not the kind of batter that he used to be 10 years ago.
A similar notion is shared by the former opening batter for the Indian cricket team and one of Dhoni’s most vocal critics, Gautam Gambhir.
Speaking on an ESPNCricinfo show, the southpaw acknowledged Dhoni for keeping things simple and sticking to his plan in the final match, which ended up bringing them the ultimate glory.
"I think they kept things very very simple. That's also a great quality to have. Rather than being too innovative and stuff, MS likes keeping things very simple. He has always enjoyed having a lot of options. If you see, he always had six or seven options up his sleeve where he likes those players who can contribute two things in the game," Gambhir said.
View this post on Instagram
"A lot of captains would have gone with Raina at No.3 with the record he has had in the past. But that is what you need to stay in the moment and try and push guys who are in decent form. That is exactly what MS did in this competition. He hardly contributed with the bat but he didn't need to. Because there were so many other guys scoring a decent rate, so those guys did the job for him," Gambhir added.
During the playoffs of IPL 2021, Gambhir had said that he either wanted KKR to win because of a personal bias (Gambhir led the Kolkata franchise to two titles) or wished to see one of the other teams (Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore) win their first championship in the history of the league. However, against all odds, it was CSK that came out victorious.

The popular Netflix series, House Of Secrets: The Burari Deaths by Leena Yadav offers us a peek into the case where lines between fact and fantasy seem to blur.
Across a span of three episodes, the audience is taken through the events that purportedly led to the family’s demise. While it’s natural to be stunned with disbelief while watching the series, it also gives us an opportunity to understand how trauma works on different levels.
On the occasion of ‘World Trauma Day’, we got in touch with Dr. Roma Kumar, a Clinical Psychologist who was featured in Netflix’s House Of Secrets: The Burari Death, to discuss and understand the nature of trauma in our daily lives:
1. Traumas Are DistressingIn House Of Secrets, Lalit Chundawat, youngest among the siblings, lost his speech after his father’s demise. This emotionally traumatic incident may have affected him more adversely than any of the family members may have anticipated. The family even avoided discussing Lalit’s inability to speak, with other family members.
According to Dr. Roma Kumar, such distressing events can trigger a variety of emotions in an individual, “Traumatic triggers can lead to a flurry of emotions such as irritability, anger, sleep difficulties, difficulty in relationships, and even intrusive thoughts in the form of recurring flashbacks and nightmares. People who have undergone severe trauma may have trouble processing positive emotions. They start avoiding people, and places, even thoughts, and memories associated with the traumatic event.”
© Netflix
2. Traumas Are Not Isolated EventsThe general understanding of trauma revolves around treating it as a point in time that cannot be addressed in the future. But nothing can be farther from the truth. The effects of unresolved trauma can result in a full-blown CPTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), as in Lalit’s case.
Dr. Roma says that trauma can stem from a combination of events, “There are triggers in your life that can be traumatic events: injuries to the body, or a violent act, or a sexual violation, or any shocking event. That can be when one is exposed to a traumatic event. So it (trauma) can be a combination of stressors.”
© Netflix
3. Trauma Can AccumulateAs discussed in the previous point, traumatic incidents aren’t always isolated incidents in time. In Lalit’s case, he’d undergone a bike accident (suffering from a head injury), a near-fatal attack (locked in a burning godown), and then his father’s demise (emotional trauma). But because of the limited access and knowledge of mental health, these issues went unaddressed, thus taking a great toll on his mind.
“Usually, symptoms associated with trauma get better with time. But for some people, more intense symptoms linger or interfere with daily life, and they go on for days and months. For them, these feelings don’t go away on their own. They go through extreme symptoms of stress such as deep sadness, worry, fear, panic. Everybody recovers at their own pace, most people recover on their own with time. But we need to ask for help when it starts making us dysfunctional. So whenever extreme symptoms of stress are there and it is interfering with your daily life, with your school, with your work, with your relationships, or social functioning, it’s time to address it”, says Dr. Roma.
© Netflix
4. Trauma Is UniversalEvery human being has the potential to suffer from various kinds of trauma. This is why it’s crucial to discuss traumatic incidents more openly and honestly. It can help alleviate the feelings of loneliness and isolation that people suffering from PTSD can often undergo.
Dr. Roma states, “The traumatized end up becoming a vulnerable part of a population after the experience. The intensity and capacity for trauma keep changing for everybody. Trauma happens in everybody’s life, but how we address the trauma can sometimes be more important than the incident in itself. The word trauma itself is loaded with negativity, with some kind of injury being caused to the mind. But if trauma has been happening frequently, or if life’s circumstances have been such where a person is continuously going through triggers, then how they process that trigger and take it forward is vital to their recovery.”
© Netflix
5. Trauma Can Be InvisibleIn the case of the Chundawat family, the trauma wasn’t visible to them, as they were deeply invested in Lalit’s psychosis. The family never realized that they were going through a traumatic experience (invisible traumas), over the course of 11 years. The loss of agency may have felt empowering for the family, as the collective did prosper financially because of Lalit’s instructions. This could snowball into a heavier dependence. In the Chundawat family, blame was often assigned to various members of the family so that they could repent for their ‘misdoings’. This may have been a way to keep the family’s secrets inside the home. A similar equation has been observed between devotees and cult leaders.
“People within a cult follow the leader, because they feel at peace, at calm. You’re able to move forward in life. Roz Mandir jaana hai. The followers are made to do something blindly as a routine. They don’t feel safe and aren’t allowed to feel vulnerable either. When one is in such a state, it is natural for their body’s stimuli to stress out and get triggered immensely. But the leader’s presence and rituals provide calm in such situations.”, explains Dr. Roma Kumar.
© Netflix
6. Trauma Can Be TreatedIt’s not all doom and gloom though, there is hope for everyone. People whose lives have been adversely affected by their traumas can seek help from mental health professionals to alleviate their situation. It’s similar to how you may visit a doctor if you have an upset stomach.
Dr. Roma shares a realistic example to help understand this situation, “Everyone can experience stomach aches. Sometimes it can be caused by overeating. It can also be caused by not eating enough. But if the issue lasts for more than a few days, despite your best efforts to remedy the pain, then you will naturally go to a doctor for further investigation. Similarly, for mental health issues, we must reach out to a mental health professional for help. Usually, it will go away. But if it doesn’t, it means that it’s affecting your mind and body and we must address it on a deeper level.”
© Netflix
7. Trauma In MenIn Lalit’s case, he took on the burden of filling in the power vacuum left behind by his father, Bhopal Singh’s death. In a patriarchal system, men are expected to be stoic and emotionless. Any sign of emotion is treated as a symptom of weakness. Perhaps, if Lalit hadn’t desperately tried to present a dispassionate facade, he may have been able to discuss the issues he grieved.
Dr. Roma explains how men face issues in confronting their emotions, “Logon ko apne bhavnaon ki dekhbhal karna sikhaya nahi jaata hai. We are not taught how to take care of our emotions. We are taught to remain happy. We are taught to not be sad. But isn’t it normal to feel sad? Men should be allowed to talk about their emotions. They should be made to feel comfortable talking about their issues comfortably and openly.”
© Netflix
Remember, there’s always hope and you're not alone. The future can be brighter once we take the first step.
