With the Royal Challengers Bangalore being back in the playoffs, Virat Kohli’s dreams of winning his first IPL trophy have once again come alive in his heart and mind. And his team looks to have the right mindset while heading into the post-season, or at least they did until they lost their second-last match of the regular season to SunRiders Hyderabad by just 4 runs.
    View this post on Instagram
Ever since the loss, the RCB fans have become extremely toxic towards their own opening batter, Devdutt Padikkal. They have started living in panic due to the not-so-helpful past of RCB in the playoffs, and out of frustration, after just one game, they are witch-hunting Gautam Gambhir and blaming him for RCB’s loss on Wednesday. Why?
Well, simply because Gambhir wished them well.
Gautam Gambhir said, “I sincerely wish #RCB finish in top 2 and win this #IPL2021 because this is Virat Kohli’s last IPL as captain.”
    — Neelabh (@CricNeelabh) October 6, 2021
Ahead of the match between RCB and SRH, Gambhir expressed his hopes of watching Virat Kohli’s side win this very important match. Getting the upper hand over Kane Williamson’s squad would have given them a confirmed top-two spot in the playoffs, allowing them an extra match as a backup, if they lose their first post-season match while chasing the IPL trophy.
“I sincerely wish #RCB finish in top 2 and win this #IPL2021 because this is Virat Kohli’s last IPL as captain,” Gambhir had spoken in favour of Kohli in what is his final attempt to chase the championship as the RCB skipper before he resigns from the post at the end of the season.
Here’s how the fans have reacted to the former Indian opener’s genuinely nice comments:
    Ok my dream over
    — Akash T (@Akashviraat18) October 6, 2021Arey yaar haargayi rcb aaj ka match me nahi dekhuga aaj ka match
    — Rohit (@rohit_0718) October 6, 2021Gambhir aware of his jinxing power
    — Vaibhav (@vaibhavverma98) October 6, 2021Ooh Gautham Uncle jinxed it finally. Sorry Virat.
    — Damsel (@kairakoko1) October 6, 2021Haarrr gayee bencho fir toh
    — Devaj (@devajgupta) October 6, 2021But why so much hate for Gambhir specifically, you ask?
Simply because whenever Gambhir praises or backs up a player or a team ahead of a match, they seem to not do so well and end up with a bad performance on the ground.
It has been a below-the-radar running gag among Indian cricket fans who continue to make hilarious requests to the southpaw about not choosing any Indian cricketers in his fantasy cricket team and ask him to praise the best performing player in the opposing side as much as he can so that in the next match, they end up choking.
once again proved @GautamGambhir is wrong pic.twitter.com/Kg0DASxnMZ
    — Pkranthi (@Kranthi87034815) November 10, 2020
One of the greatest instances of such an incident was when Gambhir had selected Delhi Capitals’ Marcus Stoinis to be the captain of his fantasy team for the IPL 2020 final.

The Australian, who’d had a phenomenal IPL season in 2020, ended up getting out on a golden duck on the batting end of the team and also turned out to be the most expensive bowler for Delhi in the final against Mumbai Indians.

In the history of sports, Yuvraj Singh’s name will be etched forever as there aren’t many sportspersons who have made a comeback after fighting a tough battle with cancer. In November 2011, it was reported that Singh was suffering from a tumour in his lung which was cancerous. The news came as a shock to not just cricket fans but those who didn't follow the sport too.
View this post on InstagramThe nation was united in praying for his recovery and we got to see his journey back to the field on our TV screens. His comeback, despite the struggles post cancer, was no less than a film unfolding in front of our eyes.
We have seen biopics like MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and Dangal in the recent past and it was only natural to expect Yuvraj's biopic as well.

Last year, the news of Karan Johar investing in Yuvraj’s biopic had started doing the rounds but there hadn’t been any major development until recently. According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, a source close to Karan’s production house has revealed that the project has been shelved.
View this post on InstagramThe source informed Bollywood Hungama, “Yuvraj Singh’s life is a roller coaster – right from the highs, lows and his fight with cancer. Hence, Karan was keen on making a biopic. He had multiple meetings with Yuvraj and his team and was on the verge of buying the rights. The producer was all set to get the current sensation, Siddhant Chaturvedi on board to play the lead, as his face structure resembles that of Yuvraj.”
    View this post on Instagram
The source added, “However, Yuvraj was clear that his story should have a top A LIST star. He suggested two names – Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor, however; Karan felt that the story needed a relatively new face, who could give requisite time for character prep. He also felt that Yuvraj himself was a national icon and his story would do well irrespective of star-cast.”
As the two weren’t on the same page, they have decided to part ways and it's disappointing, honestly.
Do you agree with Yuvraj’s recommendations or support Karan Johar in his argument? Let us know in the comments section below.

On Wednesday, Virat Kohli and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ended up losing their penultimate match of the regular season of IPL 2021 to Kane Williamson’s SunRisers Hyderabad by a heart-crushing four runs.
Although already qualified for the playoffs, had the Bengaluru side won this match as well, they would have continued to have a shot at the top-two spot in the post-season, which would have given them a one-match cushion in their quest for achieving their very first IPL championship.
    View this post on Instagram
However, thanks to some exceptional bowling from Jason Holder and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the death overs of RCB’s innings, the Hyderabad squad, who are already out of playoff contention, were successful in spoiling their rivals’ plans.
One of the biggest targets to have come out of the losing result for RCB was their opening batter, Devdutt Padikkal, who played a rather uncannily slow innings. Facing a total of 52 deliveries, the 21-year old was able to collate only 41 runs at a strike rate of 78.85.
    View this post on Instagram
In the world of IPL, anything below the strike rate of 100 is considered to be a cardinal sin and so, the lefty batter needed to brace himself for all the social media hate coming his way.

    — Basrani Dev (@MSDIAN___DEV) October 7, 2021 Under such circumstances, former Indian cricketer and analyst, Aakash Chopra spoke in favour of the young batter and asked the hostile fanbase to back off.
Can’t believe the outrage on Devdutt and Gawtham for a sluggish innings and a dropped catch respectively. Nobody drops a catch on purpose. And I don’t think Devdutt was playing slow on purpose either. These things happen. Dear #CSK and #RCB fans, take it easy. #IPL2021
    — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) October 7, 2021“Can’t believe the outrage on Devdutt and Gawtham for a sluggish innings and a dropped catch respectively. Nobody drops a catch on purpose. And I don’t think Devdutt was playing slow on purpose either. These things happen. Dear #CSK and #RCB fans, take it easy. #IPL2021,” he wrote from his official Twitter handle in the two players’ support.

In the 12 matches that Padikkal has played for Virat Kohli’s side, he has scored a total of 390 runs with an average of 35.45 and a strike rate of 126.21. Earlier in the season, he scored an unbeaten 101 runs off just 52 deliveries against Rajasthan Royals to make one of just four centuries that the league has seen this season so far.
    View this post on Instagram
Until the loss against SRH, Padikkal was being considered to be one of the greatest young talents to be coming out of the league in exceptional form and it took just one slow innings from his end for people to start blaming him of match-fixing, being a bad batter and an undeserving player. What’s with the toxicity?

After turning heads with his raw pace on his IPL debut, SunRisers Hyderabad’s young pace sensation Umran Malik continued to impress as he bowled the fastest delivery of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).
The 21-year-old fast bowler from Jammu & Kashmir, in just two outings, has shown immense potential and has made the whole world take note of the talent that he is.
    Who is Umran Malik?

Where does his passion for bowling fast come from?

We track his cricketing journey from tennis-ball cricket to leather-ball cricket. - By @28anand

Playing against the heavyweights like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell most young bowlers would have felt butterflies in their stomach but Malik didn’t let any of it affect his game, instead used the opportunity to perform even better on the field.

Defending a modest total of 141, Malik bowled the most economical spell for his side, conceding only 21 runs off his four-over spell.

After going wicketless on his IPL debut, Malik finally picked up his maiden IPL wicket as he hurried KS Bharat with a short-pitch delivery and got him caught behind.

He might have gone wicketless on his debut but he announced his arrival at the big stage, bowling the fastest delivery by an Indian pacer in the 14th edition of the IPL.

On Wednesday, he went one-notch further and became the fastest bowler in this year’s IPL, clocking 152.95 kmph on the speedometer. He has now bowled three of the five fastest deliveries this season.
Kohli’s love for fast bowlers is no secret and he was mighty impressed with the young pacer destroying the speedometer in his first couple of IPL games.
    A moment to cherish for @SunRisers' young speedster Umran Malik #VIVOIPL | #RCBvSRH | @RCBTweets pic.twitter.com/oDmXWpf2d0
    — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) October 6, 2021 When asked about what he thought of the speedster, Kohli said: “This tournament throws up talent every year, good to see a guy bowling at 150 clicks. It is important to know the progress of individuals going forward. It is important to understand the progress of individuals from here on.”
“The pool of fast bowlers being good is always a good thing for Indian cricket and whenever you see a talent like this, you are going to have your eyes on them and make sure you maximise their potential which is already being seen at the IPL level,” he added.
    © Instagram/Indian Premier League
For a bowler who had travelled with the squad as a net bowler in the last two seasons, if anyone had told him that he would get to make his IPL debut, he would have passed it off as a joke because playing an IPL game would have seemed a distant dream.

But as they say, one man’s loss is another man’s gain, lady luck was on Malik’s side and he was drafted in as a short-term replacement for T Natajan who had tested positive for COVID-19.
    © Instagram/Umran Malik
With his performance, Malik has proved that he belongs to the level and receiving such high praise from Kohli himself would do a world of good to his confidence.

And if he continues to work hard and is nurtured properly, then the sky's the limit for this pacer.

Wasim Akram has cited Indian head coach Ravi Shastri’s example as a reason for not choosing to mentor the Pakistan cricket team. According to the legendary skipper, he fears the way people have been behaving with Shastri on the internet and says that it might just be the reason for him to not kickstart a career in coaching an international team.

"I can't stand misbehaviour from anyone and I am not stupid I see how people misbehave and insult coaches/seniors on the social media if the team is not doing well. I don't think I have the patience for that," Akram said during an interview in CricketPakistan.com.pk's YouTube channel.
“I just think we need to ponder on the fact that whatever we say on social media reflects on what we are," he added.
Akram explained that the role of all the coaches and the support staff is crucial but only limited until the boys enter the field and are expected to put in all the hard work, and training they have undergone with their coaches, to good use and perform well on the ground.

"Sometimes you do well, sometimes you lose. But tell me do we see this sort of extreme reaction or misbehaviour in other countries. Have you seen Ravi Shastri being treated this way on social media? It is pretty scary for me the way people behave on social media," Akram said.
"So it is not as if I am totally cut off from the players. They call me when they want any help or advice and I love contributing to Pakistan Cricket," he said.

Over the years, the relationship between Ravi Shastri and the Indian social media has admittedly not been the most healthy. From memes about the coach falling asleep during matches to not-so-friendly comments about Shastri enjoying a couple of beverages, Indian cricket fans have not been kind to him.
However, Shastri has also gotten somewhat immune to the trolling and the unconstructive criticism that he faces online, and has managed to take the harsh comments in good stride.
