Unmukt Chand, once touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket, has decided to call time on his career in India at the age of 28.
The right-hand batsman has signed a multi-year deal with Major League Cricket in America, where he will be playing and mentoring the next generation of cricketers.
Chand’s story is a perfect example of how not every story has a fairytale ending. It also tells us just how difficult it is to become a top-class cricketer in the country, where players are found in every nook and cranny.

He was still in school when he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Delhi. He showed great promise early on and scored a terrific 151 in his fourth match. He was only 17 at the time. However, his moment of glory came when he guided India to an Under-19 World Cup title in 2012 which made him a household name, just like Kohli.

They both had many similarities that made people believe that Chand would be the next Virat Kohli of Indian cricket.
Opening the innings in the final, Chand blasted an unbeaten 111 runs as India defeated Australia to become U-19 world champions. Along with the World Cup title, Chand also returned home with the Man of the Match award.

    — Unmukt Chand (@UnmuktChand9) August 13, 2021
The way he dominated the bowlers throughout that tournament made him the most sought-after young cricketer in the country but unfortunately, his career never shot up like he would have expected it to.
He played 67 first-class games and scored 3369 runs at an average of 31.57, with the help of eight centuries. He was a much-better white-ball cricketer as he scored over 4,505 runs at an average of 41.33.
He posted a detailed note on his official Twitter handle where he thanked the BCCI, the DDCA and all the teammates who were part of his cricketing journey in India and helped him grow as a player and as a human being.

"I can proudly look back at my cricketing journey in India and I feel so blessed to have made a mark in a cricket-frenzied nation. Big thanks to BCCI for giving cricketers like me a platform to express and showcase our skills through so many camps, age group and senior board tournaments and the IPL. Definitely the hallmark of the biggest cricket board in the world,” Chand wrote on Twitter.
“Lastly, I would like to say that things have not been as smooth in the last few years and opportunities have been denied. Though a part of me is not at peace with the way things have unfolded in the last few years, I still choose to see the silver lining and with fond memories bid adieu to BCCI and seek better opportunities around the world,” he added.

Nobody knows how such a talented player ended up like this. Some say the reason why he failed to make a mark in the international arena is that he tasted success as a teenager and lost his discipline as a cricketer.

Like Chand, we also hope that the path he has chosen is the right one and wish him luck for his future endeavours.

A can of worms seems to have opened up on social media as people feel flabbergasted after Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal made remarks on the Indian industry on Thursday, especially Tata Motors.
A rather serious and upsetting remark which was casually hurled at the Indian industry by the Union Minister insisted that the industries in our country were 'not working in the interest of the nation and were simply going against India'.
    © Reuters
In his statement at the annual meet of the Confederation of India Industry, Piyush Goyal specifically came after Tata Group and called it out for infrastructure, defence and aerospace.

He said, “Me, Myself, My company — We all need to go beyond this approach.”
Furthermore, to this, he remarked, “Kya aapke jaisi company, ek do aapne shaayad koi videshi company kharid li… Uska importance zyaada ho gaya, desh hith kam ho gaya? (A company like yours, maybe you bought one or two foreign companies, now their importance is greater than national interest?” leaving most of the CEOs confused and riled up.
Piyush Goyal's 19-min tirade against Tata group at the annual meet of the CII stirred up a hornets’ nest in higher echelons of the govt. the CII was asked to pull down the video from its YouTube channel. @tragicosmicomic reportshttps://t.co/zTLctUagJP
    — Sobhana K Nair (@SobhanaNair) August 14, 2021
While the Tata Group refused to comment on the remarks by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, only a day prior to Goyal’s accusations did Tata announce its intention to give each Olympian who could not get a podium finish, a car.
A sweet and generous gesture for those who missed the bronze medal by just an inch, Tata Group’s felicitation was very warmly received on social media.
And on the other hand, what wasn’t pleasantly received were the comments by Piyush Goyal which were equated to an ‘unhinged rant’. A lot of business professionals, industrialists and even fellow politicians came together to slam the statements.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter -

In the famous words of Justin Timberlake who once said in his song, “what goes around, comes around”, life and karma both seem to have come full circle for the Manikarnika actress Kangana Ranaut as she got trolled recently for something rather hypocritical.
The 4 time National Award winner recently shared a few scintillating pictures of herself as she wrapped up a shoot in Budapest for her upcoming film Dhaakad.
In the picture, Ranaut can be seen posing confidently in a white sheer and lace corset top paired with white pants.
A look that she carried off pretty well until picking started picking on her for her hypocrisy.
    View this post on Instagram
To give you all a little context, Kangana was being called out here for being dubious because of her previous remarks that she made on women who wore torn jeans.

This is the time when her Twitter account was still active and Kangana would slam people, opinions and even clothes - left, right and centre.
During one such time, the Gangster actress shamed contemporary achievers for sporting ‘torn jeans’, saying that they didn’t uphold culture like the ancient women used to.
    © Kangana Ranaut
    © Kangana Ranaut
And now, the actress found herself in a bit of a pickle after people on the internet started calling her out on ‘double standards’ for her choice of clothes in her recent pictures.
They also pointed out how the actress who claimed to be an ardent follower of Sanatan Dharma, went ahead and wore such clothes.
One user wrote, “Weren't you the one who questioned other Bollywood actors and Rihanna for their choice of clothing? What changed? Did BJP kick you out?"  while another commented, "Yeh wahi actress hai na jisne fatti jeans and culture of India pe lecture diye the."
    © kangana ranaut
The public was neither in a mood to forgive nor to forget, but when has that ever stopped the unabashed actress?

Hitting the trolls back with a jibe of her very own, the actress uploaded a story with a caption that read, “People who giving me gyan about Sanatana dharma please know you sound so Abrahamic..."
Why? She is OK. I like her dressing.

On the work front, the actress has several movies lined up for her like 'Thalaivi', 'Tejas' and 'Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda'.

Is there a single industry that holds sway over an audience the way Bollywood enjoys in India? They’re the penultimate trendsetters in this country.
Bollywood celebs are forever surrounded by doting eyes, looking at them for the latest fashion inspiration, relationship advice, grooming trends and fitness tips. While our intentions might be noble, sometimes, it can border on obsession if we don’t look at the situation with ample nuance.
One such person who has been up close and personal with these stars is Shivoham.
MensXP connected with him for Bollywood Insiders, an experience curated by Airbnb India, where he highlighted the herculean efforts these celebrities undertake to look the way they do.
    View this post on Instagram
Shivoham is a pioneer of the Indian fitness scene, introducing the country to Crossfit in 2009. He’s even trained your favourite actors such as Aamir Khan, Jacqueline Fernadez, Ranbir Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha. This decorated trainer-to-the-stars knows what it takes to actually look like these celebs.
    View this post on Instagram
Having seen it all, Shivoham is well aware of the perils ordinary people fall prey to in their pursuit to imitate their idols. While you definitely can achieve your dream body, just like your favourite celeb, it shouldn’t be at the expense of your health and sanity. There’s a healthier and more sustainable way to approach your fitness, according to Shivoham.
Here are a few excerpts from our discussion with Shivoham about why copy pasting celebrity fitness routines is unrealistic:
    1. Different Goals  © Shivoham
Throughout his career, Shivoham has trained several celebs and he says they know what it takes to get to their goals:

“When you’re training a celebrity they know what they’re getting into. You can expect them to train once a day, twice a day depending on what needs to be done. They’re strict about their diet too. Whatever is needed to get to their goal they’re ready to do. Whereas a normal person has got their job, they’ve got their family, they’ve got other responsibilities so, they should treat fitness as an aspect of their life, not their life completely.”
    3. Paid To Be Fit  © Shivoham
Physical standards keep changing over time. For example, Tiger Shroff’s audience has different fitness expectations of him as compared to his father’s time.

Being an industry insider for a while now, Shivoham echoed the sentiment:
“Bollywood aesthetic goals 15 years ago were completely different, there was Salman Khan, Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty and Akshay Kumar. They also had a different kind of body when it came to aesthetics. Modern aesthetics are completely different, it’s all about muscularity, rippedness and definition. It has its place, but that’s not all there is to fitness. Today, fitness has become more about the mind than just the body. Especially, since we’ve seen this in the pandemic situation in the past year and a half. People have suffered more mentally than physically. That has definitely taken a front seat. People are investing more time and money towards fitness as a whole, which is the mental aspect as well as the physical.”
    5. Realistic Expectations

A middle-order comprising Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane is enough to instil fear in the eyes of any opposition in world cricket.
What once used to be Team India’s biggest strength has now turned into its biggest liabilities.
India’s fab-trio has been struggling for quite some time now, especially since January 2000, but we never saw experts raising questions over their techniques. However, now, the similar manner in which they are getting out match after match has started to suggest they are lacking confidence
    © Reuters
If someone had told us that Kohli would go without scoring a century for nearly two years, most of us would have fallen laughing our hearts out because back then, he was crossing three-figure marks for fun. However, his dry phase has stretched for far too long and the frailties in his technique have become a cause of concern for the whole team.

Since the start of 2020, Kohli has scored only 387 runs at an average of 24.19 in 16 innings, while Pujara and Rahane have fared a little better, scoring 552 and 541 runs at just over 25.
Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have a combined Test average of 25.03 since the start of 2020, with just a between them #ENGvIND
    — ESPN India (@ESPNIndia) August 14, 2021
A close look at the stats and you would know all three of them are going through a rough patch.
However, what’s astonishing is that only two of them -- Pujara and Rahane -- are facing the brunt, while the Indian skipper is getting a 'free pass' despite riding in the same boat as them for over a year now.
It's so crazy that only Rahane and Pujara needs to perform. Kohli getting free pass. Yes,he scored 42 runs but wasn't convincing enough. https://t.co/ih7uhhHtFk
    — Shubham (@Im_Shubham5) August 13, 2021Meanwhile, Kohli will keep getting a free pass despite being finished for two years just because he’s the “captain” and the “coach” is his butler.
    — Rohan (@rohanck31) August 12, 2021Kohli has scored the least number of runs for India in Tests since 2020. But he is conveniently left out of discussion when it comes to middle-order being out of form. Pujara, Kohli and Rahane are struggling. But Pujara and Rahane are the ones under pressure.
    — Venkata Krishna B (@venkatatweets) August 13, 2021When will Pujara and Rahane score again? AND when will Virat score a 100 again?
    — Sohini (@Mittermaniac) August 13, 2021Indian cricket loves Pujara and Rahane. But this blowing hot & cold is starting to hurt any advantageous position the openers provide.

Add to it Virat Kohli's uncertain form. A change is coming soon. You can just see it. #EngvInd
    — Chetan Narula (@chetannarula) August 13, 2021Not just Pujara and Rahane, even Kohli needs some big scores under his belt. Also, like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli among batting greats who does not have a century at Lord’s.
    — Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) August 12, 2021 Not just fans, even batting legend Sunil Gavaskar agrees that while all three of them have batted poorly in the last year or so, only Rahane and Pujara are facing all the heat because they are “low-profile cricketers”.
The ‘Little Master’ feels that people are making them the scapegoat for India’s middle-order worries because they are easy to target.
Gavaskar even reminded that Rahane was India’s top-scorer in the first innings of the World Test Championship final, when most of our batters failed but his knock has been completely forgotten.
    © Reuters
“He was the highest run-scorer for India at the WTC final with 49. So, nobody else has scored runs in this period, to be honest, but questions have been asked only about two cricketers. They are low-profile cricketers. They are not going to rip their shirt off and create a scene (if they are dropped),” Gavaskar said on Sony Pictures Sports Network.

There is no denying that all three of them are class cricketers and have been vital to India’s success in the longest format both home and away. So, instead of losing our patience we must show confidence in them and hope that they regain their touch and help the team in the coming matches

When makers of Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India released the film’s trailer, we had already lost our hopes and kept our expectations low.
At times, it so happens that trailers are not greatly executed but the movies turn to be better than what was shown to the viewers.
Well, this is clearly not the case with Ajay’s recent release.

The film is based on the Indo-Pak War of 1971 and Ajay Devgn plays IAF Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, who was in charge of the Bhuj airport at the time of the war.
In the film, you will see how the officer saved the border area in Gujarat from the Pakistani Army by re-constructing an entire IAF airbase with the help of 300 women from a local village in Madhapar.
We woke to bad reviews by the critics and were waiting for the audience to give the final verdict. Before we jump to what the audience felt, here’s what the film critics had to say:
Hindustan Times wrote, “The silver lining is too thin to ignore the dark, dark cloud that is Bhuj. It looms large and sinister over the future of war films in India. If this is how gutsy we're already getting with hate, I wonder what to expect next.”
    © NDTV
Well, people are also echoing similar emotions, and here are the five reasons that they didn’t approve of the movie:

    1. Poor VFX People seemed pissed in this regard as they felt Ajay Devgn’s movie has taken Bollywood's VFX game way back and felt that they were looking at a 'video game'.
    © Twitter
    3. Cinematography Is Plain B*llShitA lot of Twitter users went to say that scenes looked unrealistic and didn’t add much value to the film’s story.
    © Twitter
    5. Not A Perfect TributeWith bad dialogues and even worse acting, people said this is not how a movie should celebrate Indian soldiers and their pride.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Decision Review System (DRS) don’t go hand in hand, at least that’s what stats suggest.
His predecessor MS Dhoni was arguably the best exponent of the DRS. He was so good that many experts and fans began referring to the technology as ‘Dhoni Review System’.
However, unlike Dhoni, Kohli’s record with DRS is abysmal, to say the least.
Being a wicketkeeper certainly worked to Dhoni’s advantage as he was in the best position to judge the line of the ball and make a call accordingly, whereas Kohli doesn’t have that luxury and he had to rely on inputs given by the wicketkeeper, in most cases.
    © Reuters
Also, what worked in Dhoni’s favour was that he never gave in to bowler’s demands that easily like Kohli does. Dhoni understood the importance of DRS and how it can impact the game, hence always used it wisely.

Kohli’s casual approach once again cost India two DRS on Day 2 of the second Test against England at Lord’s.
Mohammed Siraj made two huge leg-before-wicket appeals against England skipper Joe Root in two successive overs which were turned down by the on-field umpire.
Mohammad Siraj convinced Virat Kohli to take the review of Joe Root, but Rishabh Pant was denying. #IndvsEngpic.twitter.com/4XCXsz8prI
    — Sanjay (@Iamsanjayvg) August 13, 2021
Siraj turns up to his skipper and convinces him to take the DRS on both occasions and India end up losing two out of their three reviews inside 23 overs.
What irked fans the most was the fact that having lost one DRS an over before, Kohli went upstairs ignoring Pant’s advice, who tried his best to stop him till the very last moment.
This is what cricket has become for Virat Kohli. A joke.
    — The Irish (@TheIndi96354629) August 13, 2021Very very poor from from Kohli. Just for fun he took that review. He was laughing and to satisfy siraj he took that review.
    — IamAonu (@TheAnuragNag) August 13, 2021How can the captain be so casual about the review!
Might be the diff between winning & losing
    — Saurabh Bhandari / सौरभ भण्डारी (@sigmaiotapi) August 13, 20211st review was ok
    It happens
But to lose the 2nd one in same fashion after losing the 1st one few moments ago
Virat has to be more strong about these decisions and say no
    Shocking
    — Rakesh kumar Singh राकेश कुमार सिंह (@Rakeshk72798087) August 13, 2021Ghatiya captaincy , not asking for opinion from keeper .
    — Clairvoyant (@Anachronist26) August 13, 2021Indian team joking away with DRS..not even close to umpires call...
    Horrible reviews
    — CricFreak (@ArpitAgarwaI) August 13, 2021Pure Desperation for a wicket! No usage of Brains whatsoever
    — Himanshu (@himanshu_jain12) August 13, 2021 Like any bowler, Siraj also has a habit of making a huge appeal to persuade the umpire but Kohli should have known that no bowler will stop you from going for the review because for them umpires are always wrong.
The way Kohli surrendered to Siraj’s request and challenged the on-field decision with a tinge of smile on his face despite Pant almost pleading him not to, pissed off the fans.
On top of that, the way he said a few words to the wicketkeeper, perhaps suggesting that he was not convincing enough, made fans lose their temper even more.
    © Reuters
After showing great maturity in his batting and wicket-keeping, Pant has started making decisions from behind the stumps when it comes to DRS.

Take for example the previous Test match in Nottingham where he forced Kohli into taking a review for caught behind chance and India ended up getting a wicket.
It doesn’t mean that he’ll always be right but it definitely shows that he is improving with each game, and it would be in the team's best interest if Kohli started acknowledging it.
