If you had looked at the IMDB top rated world movie list a few days ago, you probably would have had a few disagreements here and there based on your personal preferences, but you surely wouldn't have been shell-shocked as an Indian. Let's say that bit has changed now, as a Tamil movie has soared up in the rankings to occupy the 3rd spot in the best rated movie list.

Soorarai Pottru released last year, and has an impressive starcast that includes Suriya, Madhavan, and (wait for it) Paresh Rawal. The film was partly inspired by events from the life of Simplifly Deccan founder G. R. Gopinath. While the project was announced in mid-2018, under the working title Suriya 38, the official title Soorarai Pottru was announced on 13 April 2019. The film is directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by Suriya and Guneet Monga.

While it slowly crawled its way up there, without making much noise, Twitter did not disappoint with its ever watchful eyes. Desi Twitter is all praises, and completely agrees with the position that Soorarai Pottru has bagged for itself.

    Here are a few reactions:

Iqbal star Shreyas Talpade has raised several eyebrows after he opened up recently on the many 'fragile egos' in Bollywood and how he has been 'backstabbed' by people from the industry who he thought were his friends.

He expressed how few actors refused to work with him as they were 'insecure'.
    View this post on Instagram
“I found out that there are certain actors who are insecure about sharing screen space with me and don’t want me in a film. I have done certain films for friends only keeping their interests in mind but then I have been back-stabbed by the same friends. Then some friends go ahead and make films without including me, which makes one question if they are even friends at all. Actually, in the industry, 90% of the people are just acquaintances, there are only 10% who actually feel happy when you do well. The egos are so fragile here," he was quoted by the Hindustan Times.
    View this post on Instagram
He expressed how the pandemic has brought a change in the industry. However, according to him, the industry has been one-sided and unfair for a long time.
He also said, “So, this correction was necessary. From here on we pretty much have an equal playing field for all of us. Things are looking bright, amazing and exciting."

Scores of disappointed Indians took to Twitter to express their disbelief after seeing India's name being omitted from the list of countries that were thanked by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for standing with his nation during the Israel-Palestine conflict.
    © Reuters
Netanyahu on Sunday (May 16) morning expressed his gratitude to a list of 25 countries that included the United States, Albania, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cyprus, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, and Ukraine.

The 71-year-old PM used the emoticons of the flags of the countries in a tweet which said, "Thank you for resolutely standing with Israel and supporting our right to self-defense against terrorist attacks."
    🇺🇸🇦🇱🇦🇺🇦🇹🇧🇦🇧🇷🇧🇬🇨🇦🇨🇴🇨🇾🇨🇿🇬🇪🇩🇪🇬🇹🇭🇳🇭🇺🇮🇹🇱🇹🇲🇩🇳🇱🇲🇰🇵🇾🇸🇮🇺🇦🇺🇾
Thank you for resolutely standing with 🇮🇱 and supporting our right to self defense against terrorist attacks.
    — PM of Israel (@IsraeliPM) May 15, 2021
However, one country's flag that was missing in the post was that of India, which has remained a staunch ally of the Middle East nation.
    © Reuters
Netanyahu's decision to not include India in the list could be due to the Indian government showing no official statement of supporting Israel's stance in the Israel-Palestine violence.

However, by no means does that mean that the citizens of India have not shown their support to Israel, with many being vocal on social media in standing against Palestine.
Unsurprisingly, the Israeli PM's decision to not feature India in the Twitter post did not go down well with these Indian supporters, who spammed Netanyahu's post to question him on their country's exclusion.

Indian allrounder Vijay Shankar has finally opened up about how he felt (and continues to feel) about the time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was assembling the national squad for the 2019 World Cup and his selection drew severe criticism from compatriot Ambati Rayudu.
In a conversation with News18, Shankar spoke about how he holds no grudges against Rayudu and says that the online comparisons made between the two do not make sense, simply because they both have a very different set of roles and responsibilities when it comes to playing for the national team.
Bumrah to Rayudu after hitting Vijay Shankar on toes pic.twitter.com/uEB5jZJf5A
    — AbhiShek (@ImAbhishek28) June 21, 2019
“We talk well when we meet. There’s no personal issue between us. It just so happened that his (Rayudu’s) tweet became viral. I definitely don’t have any grudge against him. Even when I met him recently in Delhi, we had a super conversation,” Shankar told News18 when asked if he has ever brought up the tweet with Rayudu.
The 30-year-old was picked over Rayudu to join the team and the latter hopped on Twitter to mock Shankar’s selection by touching upon the “3-D player” nickname that he had gotten from the selectors at the time.
Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup ..
    — Ambati Rayudu (@RayuduAmbati) April 16, 2019
To clear the air, Shankar expressed that he had nothing to do with the “three-dimensional” nickname or how it ended up going viral all over the country.

“I have no connection to that. They gave me a tag randomly and made it viral. But after that tweet, I played three games for India in the World Cup and did decently. I didn’t do anything bad,” Shankar said.
“A lot of people compare me to Rayudu, but the batting orders and conditions we play in are different. It’s okay to even compare, but at least see which slots we’re batting in. A lot of people don’t know that. They don’t see that, and they just want to enjoy on social media at my expense,” he added.
    View this post on Instagram
And even though Shankar managed to play a few games for the team at the grandest stage of them all, he ended up getting injured and ruled unfit to play for the remainder of the tournament.
Team India fans thought that this may be the time window of opportunity during which Rayudu would finally get a spot on the roster. However, BCCI selectors chose Mayank Agarwal as a replacement and Rayudu’s dream of playing for the World Cup remained just a dream.
Soon, the cricketer would announce his retirement from international competition and continue to focus on domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League.

Last year, Irrfan Khan passed away at the age of 54, after battling with a neuroendocrine tumour in 2018. The film industry mourned the loss of India's most versatile actor. He was posthumously honoured with two awards including Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) along with Lifetime Achievement Award. Even his son Babil Khan has time and again taken to social media and shown us several memories of the late actor.

Recently, Irrfan's movie, Haasil marked 18 years in the film industry. The director of the movie, Tigmanshu Dhulia in a conversation unveiled that Irrfan believed his character from Haasil would be 'remembered like Gabbar Singh'. The movie garnered major recognition for Irrfan's role.

Haasil...16th of May the film did wonders for us I remember doing the background score and irfan dropped in we were working on the climax he saw it said this villain will be remembered like Gabbar Singh...well the villain was unlike Gabbar but yes Irfan will always be remembered

Here's how the people reacted on this tweet:
One of my fav movie and the movie which made me huge fan and admirer of Great Irfan sahab. More than a wonderful actor he was such a good person. Could tell by whatever available in public domain. We will always remember him .
    — Piyush (@Piyush364) May 16, 2021'I like artist'. What a line from Irrfan. Haasil is such a gem. Student politics, dialogues and songs.
    — Pavneet Singh Chadha (@pub_neat) May 16, 2021One of my fev, I think it was a great film and can’t understand why it ended up being underrated.

The filmmaker in an interview last year had also mentioned that the movie was tough to make and release. Ever since the director got the idea for the movie, Irrfan became a part of the journey.  When the actor saw the first cut of the movie, he said his character won't die soon, which turned out to be true.

Tigmanshu also mentioned that Irrfan could have easily received National Film Award for his character, had he not fought with the producer. He mentioned "Irrfan didn't get the National Award because I had a fight with the producer. So out of revenge, the producer did not send Haasil for the National Awards, which was a huge blow. I’m sure Irrfan would have got it in 2004,"

In Haasil, Irrfan played the role of Ranvijay Singh, an ambitious union leader. Irrfan's role as an antagonist stood out, amongst the rest of the cast.

Over the span of the last 30 years, Irrfan worked on some other critically acclaimed projects including  Paan Singh Tomar, Haider, The Lunchbox etc. He was also a part of some international projects including Slumdog Millionaire and The Warrior.

The majority of the times Michael Vaughan gets involved in a disagreement with a cricketer, fellow cricket analyst, or even a fan, things become uglier than they should have been and more often than not, it is the former England captain who’s the one to make the deep cut.
Recently, Vaughan spoke about how he feels New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson would have been a greater cricketer than Virat Kohli, provided he was an Indian cricketer, which, as expected, took the cricketing world by storm.
"If Kane Williamson was Indian, he'd be the greatest player in the world, but he's not because you're not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest, because you'd get an absolute pelting on social media,” Vaughan had told Spark Sport last week.

"I think Kane Williamson is up there with the great players across the three formats and he certainly matches Virat Kohli… It's just he doesn't have the 100 million followers on Instagram and doesn't earn the $30-40 million or whatever Virat gets every year for his commercial endorsements,” he added.
While many were busy calling him out for his not so humble opinion, former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt also took his shot at him and called his take on the whole matter “irrelevant”.

"Kohli belongs to a country which has a huge population. Obviously, he would have a bigger fanbase. On top of that, his performance is better too. Virat has 70 international tons at the moment, no other batsman from this era has that many.
"And who has compared the two? Michael Vaughan. He was a brilliant captain for England, but the beauty at which he used to bat, his output wasn't on par. He was a good Test batsman but Vaughan never scored a single century in ODIs. Now, as an opener, if you haven't scored a century, it's not worth discussion. It’s just that he has a knack for saying things that stir up a debate. Besides, people have a lot of time to stretch a topic ... What Vaughan has said is irrelevant," Butt said.
Unfortunately, this was not the end of the debate… far from it.
Vaughan decided to draw the big guns and dug up Butt’s past, an infamous incident of match-fixing charges back in 2010 for which he was banned from playing international cricket for Pakistan for five years.
No idea what the headline is ... but I seen what Salman has said about me ... that’s fine and he is allowed his opinion but I wished he had such a clear thought of mind back in 2010 when he was Match fixing !!! https://t.co/EkDWuH7Vi4
    — Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) May 16, 2021
“No idea what the headline is ... but I seen what Salman has said about me ... that’s fine and he is allowed his opinion but I wished he had such a clear thought of mind back in 2010 when he was Match fixing !!!” Vaughan said in a tweet on Sunday.
However, Vaughan critics remember the kind of sympathy Vaughan had shown towards Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft when they were caught in the infamous ‘Sandpaper gate’ during Australia’s tour of South Africa.
“Steve Smith I think is a good guy who made a huge mistake ... He needed punishing but I think this is too harsh ... Bancroft who I don't know was led astray but deserved punishing but again too harshly IMO ... The other guy I really don't care about ..," Vaughan had said back in 2016 when Smith, Bancord and David Warner were found guilty of ball-tampering and were suspended from the Australian side for almost a year.
This pity towards the Australians were called out after Vaughan’s ruthless comment on Butt’s past:
Why are English greats so forgiving of Warner, Smith & co, but not of Salman Butt? And what does it have to do with Salman's comment on @MichaelVaughan? https://t.co/n3g5d0mKMn

Not too long ago, former England captain and one of the most controversial cricket analysts in modern cricket, Michael Vaughan said that New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson would have been a greater player than Virat Kohli if he too was an Indian.
"If Kane Williamson was Indian, he'd be the greatest player in the world, but he's not because you're not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest, because you'd get an absolute pelting on social media,” Vaughan had told Spark Sport last week.

Obviously, such comments cannot go unnoticed and fans and cricket experts from all corners of the world have their respective opinions to put forward in this matter.
Former Pakistan cricketer-turned-YouTuber, Salman Butt also tried his hand at having a say in this whole matter.
However, he did so by sidelining Vaughan’s credibility as an analyst and calling his thoughts “irrelevant”.

"Kohli belongs to a country which has a huge population. Obviously, he would have a bigger fanbase. On top of that, his performance is better too. Virat has 70 international tons at the moment, no other batsman from this era has that many.

If you know anything about Vaughan, you know that he is never the one to hold back from such confrontations, especially when he’s going against someone with baggage as massive as Salman Butt.
The former Pakistan captain was one of the three accused in the spot-fixing scandal at Lord's in 2010. He was later banned for five years from playing for the Pakistan side and later failed to make his return to the international roster.
It didn’t take long for Vaughan to bring out the dagger.
In a tweet on Sunday evening, Vaughan wrote:
No idea what the headline is ... but I seen what Salman has said about me ... that’s fine and he is allowed his opinion but I wished he had such a clear thought of mind back in 2010 when he was Match fixing !!! https://t.co/EkDWuH7Vi4

The past couple of years have brought along a revolution within the players of the Indian cricket team and their candidness towards struggling with mental health issues.
On Sunday, India’s legendary Sachin Tendulkar opened up about his mental health struggles and how he suffered from severe anxiety for over a decade while playing as an international cricketer and representing his nation at some of the biggest stages.
    View this post on Instagram
“Over period of time I realised that besides preparing physically for a game, you have to prepare yourself mentally also. In my mind, the match started long before I entered the ground. The anxiety levels were very high,” Tendulkar said in an interaction organised by Unacademy.
“I felt the anxiety for 10-12 years, had many sleepless nights before a game. Later on, I started accepting that it was part of my preparation. Then I made peace with times I was not able to sleep in the night. I would start doing something to keep my mind comfortable.”
That “something” included shadow batting, watching TV and playing video games in the wee hours of the day. Even making his morning cup of tea helped him prepare for the game.
    View this post on Instagram
Sachin also spoke about how making cups of tea, and ironing clothes also helped him get over the feeling of uncertainty and get ready for the match.
"I would pack my bag the day before the game, my brother taught me all of it and it became a habit. I followed the same drill even in the last match I played for India,” said the 48-year-old, who retired after playing his 200th Test match in 2013.
    View this post on Instagram
“When there is an injury, physios and doctors examine you and diagnose what is wrong with you. The same is the case with mental health. It is normal for anyone to go through ups and downs and when you hit those lows you need people around.
“Acceptability is the key here. Not just for the player, for people around him also. Once you have accepted you start looking for solutions,” he added.
