Although we are staying home and are spending a lot of time indoors, we do have to venture out at times to run important errands, buy groceries and other non-avoidable work.
If you have acne-prone or oily skin, you must be dreading the hot summer days that are already upon us. This is the time when skincare woes like acne flare up.
© iStock
Stepping out without a face mask on is a sin these days, thanks to the coronavirus outbreak. However, by the time you’d come back home and take it off, your face would have become a hub for zits.
© iStock
The reason you could experience acne around your face and chin now more than ever is because of this new addition to your daily essentials- a face mask. Plus, summer heat just adds to the problem.
© iStock
A year ago, a ‘face mask’ was simply a skincare product that promised better skin. Ironically, it is now the survival tool that makes skin woes like blackheads and acne worse.
But since they keep us safe from the deadly virus, these face masks, whether surgical or N95, are absolute essentials.
© iStock
Talking about the skin problems it brings with it, you can keep them at bay with proper care and good skincare habits. Here is what you can do:
1. Use A Clean Mask © iStock
You don’t use the same gym clothes that are practically drenched in sweat because they can irritate your skin and cause body acne. The same rule applies here.
Throw disposable masks after one use and always wear a fresh, dry and clean face mask.
2. Switch To Non-Comedogenic Products © iStock
These are the products that do not block the pores on the skin. Use lightweight and water-based moisturisers that keep your skin nourished but don’t contribute to acne.
3. Give Your Skin A Break © iStock
Since the protective layer of your mask blocks the droplets and air from passing through, it also prevents skin from breathing.
Remove it for a few seconds every couple of hours (when you are alone) for your skin to relax.
4. Increase Your Water Intake © iStock
This is the simplest skincare basic and a golden rule.
To keep your skin hydrated, keep your body hydrated by drinking enough water. This would keep your skin healthy and breakouts at bay, even if you wear a mask for long hours.
5. Wash Your Face Regularly © iStock
Goes without saying, once you are home, cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser to remove the oil, dirt and sweat that accumulated on your skin throughout the day.
These are the things that invite acne.

India has just launched the first batch of anti-COVID drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan released it this morning.
Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan release first batch of Anti-COVID drug 2DG developed by DRDO pic.twitter.com/gUu6IuYlrT
— ANI (@ANI) May 17, 2021
The drug has been developed by DRDO’s Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences in collaboration with Hyderabad-based pharma giant Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories. Several drugs including Hydroxychloroquine, Remdesivir, Ivermectin have been prescribed as a part of the COVID treatment arsenal, but 2-DG is the first one to be termed as an anti-Covid drug.
#WATCH | DRDO Chairman says, "Drug 2DG works on infected cells. So, it doesn't know what virus it is but infected cells generally behave in a similar way of observing this material. When they observe this material they become very inert. So, it should work for other strains also" pic.twitter.com/iWf4Su9Ug2
— ANI (@ANI) May 17, 2021 According to scientists, 2DG will work against variants too as it stops virus growth. Once the growth is inhibited, (https://www.mensxp.com/social-hits/news/88235-covid-positive-telangana-boy-isolates-on-tree-for-11-days-due-to-no-space.html) there will be no sudden rise (https://www.mensxp.com/entertainment/bollywood/88174-anupam-kher-criticises-govts-handling-of-covid-19.html) in the demand of oxygen in the body.
#NewsAlert | Haryana to buy '2DG' COVID-19 drug. The state will be the first buyer of the DRDO developed drug.
Details by Gurpreet. pic.twitter.com/mbzIgIHNcA
— TIMES NOW (@TimesNow) May 17, 2021When it comes to how exactly the drug is supposed to work, it spreads through the body like glucose. It reaches the virus-infected cells and prevents virus growth by stopping viral synthesis and destroys the protein's energy production. The drug also works on virus infection spread into lungs, which helps decrease patient's dependability on oxygen.
Congratulations to @DRDO_India & all the scientists for developing an #AntiCoronaDrug #2DG which helps in faster recovery of hospitalized #COVID19 patients & reduces supplemental oxygen dependence. It's very significant development in this battle agnst #covid. #IndiaFightsCorona pic.twitter.com/tVnzwOvn1d
— Lokesh Sharma (@_lokeshsharma) May 17, 2021
In terms of dosage, Dr Sudhir Chandna has said like glucose powder, this drug can be taken with water, twice a day. A Covid-19 patient may have to take this drug for five to seven days to get completely cured.

The authorities have said that the pricing will be determined by Dr Reddy's laboratories, which is manufacturing the doses. According to them, the pricing will be done keeping affordability in mind. Let's hope this works!

At a time when the entire country has been left resourceless and almost faithless in its battle with the catastrophic second wave of Covid-19, BJP MP Pragya Thakur has gone on to make a joke of the deadly virus by stating that cow urine can be used to cure lung infection caused by Covid.
© Shutterstock
The double mutated strain of the virus, which has squeezed the breath out of the country's citizens is known to attack the lungs of a patient in serious cases of infections with people's oxygen levels depleting as a result of it.
However, at a time when people across the country have been scrambling for important medications for treating the infection, Pragya Thakur revealed that she drinks cow urine every day in order to protect herself from the virus.
Watch | "I don't have #Covid because I drink cow urine every day": BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur pic.twitter.com/kynaJPzgoi
— NDTV (@ndtv) May 17, 2021
"If we have desi gau mutra (urine from an indigenous cow) every day, then it cures lung infection from Covid. I am in deep pain but I take cow urine every day. So now, I don't have have to take any medicine against corona and I don't have corona. Cow urine is a life-saver," said the self-proclaimed saffron-robed saint.
© Twitter
Her claims come at a time when doctors across the country have been warning citizens against the usage of unproven alternative cures offered for the coronavirus.
As per the Indian Medical Association, there has been no scientific evidence that suggests that cow urine or dung can help in the treatment and prevention of Covid-19. "There is no concrete scientific evidence that cow dung or urine boosts immunity against COVID-19," said Dr. JA Jayalal, the head of the medical body, while speaking to Reuters.
Well, regardless of cow urine helping with the virus or not, the BJP MP's statements clearly helped people on social media share a quick laugh in what has been a tough time in the country for everyone.

Auctions can get crazy, and we mean, properly, insanely crazy.
Take these pair of Adidas sneakers, which were sold for about 1 million dollars, for example. You obviously can’t wear them, because not only are they insanely expensive, they’re made out of porcelain, and can’t be physically worn.
© Sotheby’s
While we get the point of charity auctions and the philanthropic principles behind it, non-charity auctions can be just out of the whack, especially if there’s a celebrity history or pop culture attached to it.
We take a look at 9 such pieces, that come to us from celebrity-closets, and which ended up getting an insane amount of money, at auctions:
1. Darth Vader’s Helmet Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back - $898,420 or Rs 6.5 Crores © 20th Century Fox
Yup, one of the most iconic headgears in the history of cinema, fell just short of a million dollars.
Do keep in mind, that the buyer had to pay some additional fees, so chances are, he may have paid over a million dollars for this.
David Prowse, the guy who played Vader, certainly must have been happy.
2. Kate Winslet’s Red Dress From ‘Titanic’: $330,000 Or Rs 2.45 Crores © Paramount Pictures
Okay, this one is a slightly bizarre one.
One of the red dresses that Kate Winslet wore during the sinking scenes of the Titanic, fetched well over $330,000 dollars.
The dress, which was auctioned in 2012, was actually water damaged and had to be stored in a hermetically sealed display
3. Michael J Fox’s ‘Back to the Future Pt. 2’ Nike Air Mags: $92,100 or Rs 67.40 Lakhs © Sotheby’s
Just one shoe, of the original pairs, survived and no we don’t mean one pair - just the left shoe survived.
Worn by Michael J Fox in the Back to the Future sequel, one can see the sneaker disintegrating, and falling apart. The sneakers were made just for the movie, so there was no concern over quality control.
4. Princess Leia's 'Return of the Jedi' Bikini: $96,000 or Rs 70.27 Lakhs © 20th Century Fox
Looks like Star Wars fans have really deep pockets.
One of the costumes, or the “space bikinis” that Princess Leia wore in the film, auctioned for $96,000, back in 2015.
If you think that the price seems to be a little low, then you have to factor in that there are several other, authentic copies, which were used while filming, stacked somewhere in 20th Century Fox’s studios, just waiting to be found.
5. Michael Jackson's 'BAD' Tour Jacket: $289,000 or Rs 2.25 Crores © AFP
In 2018, one of the jackets that Michael Jackson performed in during a worldwide tour, sold for almost $300,000.
The original asking price was set at $100,000, but it went for thrice the original price.
6. 1972 Nike 'Moon Shoes': $437,500 Or Rs 3.20 Crores © Sotheby’s
The first-ever sneakers or running shoes that Bill Bowerman, the founder of Nike ever made, sold for over $400,000.
Technically, these were the first Nikes ever made, and they were made in a garage.
Bowerman apparently used his wife’s waffle makers, so they are also often erroneously called the Waffle shoes, which actually are a completely different line of sneakers.
7. Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' Jacket: $1.8 Million or Rs 13.20 Crores © Sony Music Entertainment
This is definitely one of the most iconic pieces here.
The red and black jacket that Michael Jackson wore in the video for one of his greatest chartbusters, was auctioned for almost $2 Million, back in 2011.
After his death in 2009, a number of his personal items hit the market in auctions. This was by far, the most expensive of the lot.
8. Michael Jordan’s Sneakers: $560,000 or Rs 4.10 Crores © Sotheby’s
A number of sneakers that Michael Jordan has worn throughout his career have sold for an obnoxious amount of money.
A pair of Air Jordan 1s from one of the most iconic matches in his first season, sold for over half a million dollars. That’s not the most expensive MJ sneakers ever sold though.
9. Michael Jordan’s Rookie Season Unworn Sneakers: $1 Million or Rs 7.35 Crores © Christie’s
Earlier this year, a pair signed by Michael Jordan, in his rookie season, which had never been worn before, went for a neat $1 million. It must have been quite a lucky fan, the one who got to buy that pair.
The Bottom Line…
Fandoms can be quite strange, but not as strange as auctions.
Seriously, you have to be a bit soft in the head, if you’re going to spend so much money, on shoes and clothes that were made for someone else, and which perhaps, were worn by someone else.

The world is in a state of chaos and it's not just the pandemic, but there's no stopping the violence as well in some countries.
Recently, there was an attack in Gaza, where, according to reports, Israel launched airstrikes. This was one of the deadliest attacks in the history of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
More than 1000 people were wounded and some were minors as well. The attack killed almost 149 people, including 41 children.

Amid all this, a video of a 10-year old girl called Nadine Abdel-Taif has gone viral.
The child had tears in her eyes as she pointed out the rubble behind her and is seen explaining the brutality by Israel in Palestine.
In the video, she is seen with a few other children and she says that she feels helpless because she can't do anything for her people.
God, my heart. Bless her. pic.twitter.com/ZEsJ4ru2FX
— Barry Malone (@malonebarry) May 15, 2021
"What am I supposed to do? Fix it? I'm only 10. I can't even deal with this anymore," she says while pointing at the rubble behind her.
She breaks down even more as she says, “I just want to be a doctor or anything to help my people. But I can’t. I’m just a kid".
Nadine further added "I get scared… I’d do anything for my people. But I don’t know what to do."
She can also be heard questioning, “Why do we deserve this? What did we do for this?" My family said they just hate us. They just don't like us because we are Muslims," In the end, she can be heard saying "It's not fair."
© Twitter/Barry Malone
The repercussions of the attack have led to the children of Gaza suffering the brunt of it. While some survived the attack, many lost their lives.
The number of deaths also includes newborn babies. The video posted on Twitter by Barry Malone has been shared on several social media platforms and has garnered around 11.5 million views on Twitter until now.
As per further reports, Nadine is safe along with her family members.
One of her teachers also commented on the video. "This is my beautiful student, Nadeen. She was explaining to the press what happened to their neighbours. Thank God, Nadeen & her family are safe & sound. She is still shocked & traumatized, though,"
After this, many users came forward and sent their love and prayers for her. Reports state that the destruction is huge on the Palestinian side and people are doing their bit to help out in whatever way they can.
My heart breaks for her, but we all must look to the politicians on both sidedfor the answer to her questions. We do not hate Muslims.
— Carole Reiss (@reiss_carole) May 16, 2021@malonebarry I can’t express how much pain I feel in my heart while watching this 10 yr old girl saying she “She’s just a kid”. She and the rest of the other kids in 🇵🇸 are living in complete fear. This is terrifying! 🇮🇱 needs to stop !!!
— Ernest Henry 🇸🇱️ (@ErnestHenry9) May 16, 2021You are so right sweetheart! It isn't fair! I wish I could help but I am not in a position to help. I am appalled at what is happenning to you but I don't know what to do either. The people have so little say in what governments do these days! I am so sorry!
— Marilyn Riedy (@marilyn_riedy) May 16, 2021My heart has literally broke....what a senseless & selfish world we live in.
— Bradley Williams (@chilli_willi19) May 15, 2021I have an 11 year old girl. The first heartbreaking thing that struck me is that this is a ten year old girl with the experience that most adults never have, and it shows on her grief stricken face - she has matured way beyond her years, childhood stripped away.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan recently said that his flop movies only make him want to work harder.
The actor’s latest release Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai was released and opened to poor reviews, however, the film was streamed millions of times on ZeePlex.
The film was directed by Prabhudeva and was released on OTT in India on Eid instead of theatres due to Coronavirus. Also, it is one of the biggest Indian releases to experiment with a pay-per-view model.
View this post on Instagram
Recently, in an interview, Salman said, "Now, at the age of 55-56, I am doing what I used to do at the age of 14-15. That's because the young generation has Tiger Shroff. Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, and Aayush Sharma are coming now so we will have to work harder."
He also expressed how the audience appreciates hard work on screen.
"Which film will work? Which film will be a flop? People see it as a 9-5 job. I have taken it as a 24x7 job. I just work. That's all I want to do. If a film flops, I work harder. I realized that when you put your blood and sweat into something and give your best, the audience understands your hard work. And it appreciates it, too," he added.

Earlier, his film Race 3 made around ₹180 crores at the Indian box office, despite the negative reviews, and Salman had said that the film can’t be considered a flop.
The Director of the film Remo D’Souza also said, "As a director, I feel ₹180 crore is not a bad number. Baaki sab ki films ₹120-130 crore karti hai toh (When other films make ₹120-130 crore) it’s a blockbuster, but people felt my film didn’t do well at the box office."
