While kind hearted influencers continue to amplify requests, selflessly so, thereby saving lives, it has come to light that there are some, who are charging for the same. The vocal criticism of this 'arrangement' by the public in general and quite a few popular influencers hit the internet after a report by 'Medianama' highlighted that some influencers managed by the agency 'Indian Influencer Network' (IIN) are monetising amplification requests.

However, the process of monetising is not as simple. Reportedly, IIN had developed a portal for plasma donation (that has officially been discontinued now as a means of COVID treatment). They required their partners to integrate the same on their respective websites while talking about plasma donation drives. The influencers managed by IIN were then required to promote that particular portal as well as the SOS requests received through it, and subsequently accept a fee for the same, from the money that IIN charged the brand or the startup to be a part of the campaign.

In other words, those influencers shared plasma requests using data collected from companies who 'sponsor' the influencers and pay per post.

While most people and other influencers are condemning the same strongly, another face of the coin is that for some of these influencers, this is the only source of income. However, since the nature of these promotions and amplifications are life saving in nature and are in no way associated with a particular brand for product promotion, perhaps the outrage is justified here. What do you think?
