Why should Marvel fans have all the fun?

While fans of superhero franchises across the world relish at the sight of movies or TV series from different production houses release in theatres of OTT platforms, there are sections of fans who pledge their alliance to either the DC Universe or the Marvel Universe.

There is no denying that the Marvel Universe, which comprises characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, Captain American, Hulk, the X-men, and Fantastic Four, has sailed far ahead in the lead especially in the last decade.

While DC took the battle to Marvel with Christopher Nolan at the helm of the Batman trilogy, the excellence of Marvel Studios under the Presidency of Kevin Feige has meant that the former have not been able to compete.

Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice along with the Justice League, despite holding a lot of promise, failed to deliver, with fans fearing for the future of the DC universe.

However, amidst the positive reception of the recently released extended version of Zack Snyder's Justice League, it is now revealed that The Flash standalone film featuring Ezra Miller, has begun filming in London.

What is certain to excite fans the most is that the film about the "Fastest Man Alive" will see Michael Keaton return as Batman, 29 years after starring as the caped crusader in Tim Burton's "Batman Returns".
Michael Keaton's publicist confirmed he will don the cowl once more and return as Batman in The Flash. 🦇⚡ https://t.co/5nhJWhOQTQ pic.twitter.com/GLd5DDxBk1

The news of the 69-year-old "Birdman" actor's return was confirmed by his talent agency, ICM Partners, in a report carried out by TheWrap.
Keaton's return to the fold will take the number of Batmans appearing in the Flash film to two, with Ben Affleck also set to reprise his role.

The solo Flash film is expected to confront DC's multiverse, with the plot being a new take on the Flashpoint storyline.

While Keaton had been rumored to return as the Dark Knight in the past, the confirmation of the news saw reactions of fans on Twitter.

Seems like the plethora of Indian movies being offered on Netflix is finally widening up and with some brilliant heartwarming tales like Pagglait and slice-of-life drama Ajeeb Daastaans entertaining the audience, it is now time to wait for Sardar Ka Grandson. Starring Arjun Kapoor, Neena Gupta and Rakul Preet in the lead roles, this heart warming story is bringing Lahore to Amritsar, literally.

This family entertainer shows a grandmother who has an ailing wish of visiting her hometown of Lahore. After multiple attempts of trying to get her a visa, he decides to make the possible out of impossible and bring her ancestral home to Amritsar instead. The movie also stars Soni Razdan, Aditi Rao Hydari, John Abraham, and Divya Seth, and has been penned by Anuja Chauhan. The trailer is getting some good reviews on Twitter as well.
Finally getting good content from Arjun

Recently, I wrote a story on how Hollywood shows racist stereotypes in ‘Indian scenes’ that are completely unacceptable and extremely offensive.
Having said that, it doesn’t take one too long to realise that 'normalising racism' is a two-way street and that our filmmakers have not exactly been saints in portraying someone from a different cultural or ethnic group in our movies.
Here are four racist stereotypes that Bollywood has shown towards the world:
    1. Indian Actors In Dark Make-Up To Portray African Characters © Cinema Capital
Making Bipasha Basu (in All The Best: Fun Begins) apply a darker foundation on her skin to portray the role of a princess from Lushoto is equally offensive to Tanzanians, as having a white guy do the overly annoying Indian accent for Apu in The Simpsons.

Why not hire an actor of the same ethnicity? We seem to have no problems with hiring African actors when we need to have a drug dealer in our films.
If you say that that was a one-off incident, when a lighter-skinned actor put on dark make-up to look like a person from a different ethnicity, you might want to check out Hadh Kardi Aapne, Gumnaan, Razia Sultan among other movies.
    2. The ‘Chinese Eyes’:  © Warner Bros Pictures India
Be it 2000’s Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani or 2008’s Chandni Chowk To China, the obsession to make an Indian actor “look Chinese” by taping their eyes in order to make them appear more… 'slanted' has been real.

Also, this is a real quote from Deepika Padukone while shooting for Chandni Chowk To China when she was worried about how taping her eyes would cause permanent damage to her face but nothing about how offensive it was to East Asian people:
“My doctors said if I stick those tapes on my eyes for 12 hours a day, the shape of my eyes would change forever. So, instead, we got my make-up artiste Mallika Bhatt to do my eye make-up in such a way that my eyes looked slanted.” Courtesy: Mumbai Mirror
    3. White Backup Dancers:
There are multiple ways to look at this specific point. If a movie is shot on foreign soil, it will be cheaper to hire local dancers for the performances, it can also seem more “natural” to have foreigners dancing in the background in the film being shot in a different country.
Or to quote film director Jag Mundhra, “the reason producers pick white girls is because a lot of them have better figures and are willing to expose them… If you need a bikini shot, not many Indian girls are willing to turn up in a string bikini. But most white girls will not have an issue with that. Titillation has been an important part of Bollywood.”
    4. All The ‘Goriya Songs’:
Goriya Chura Na Mera Jiya, Chura Ke Dil Mera Goriya Chali, Gori Teri Aakhe Kahe, Ye Gore Gore Gaal, Ye Kaali Kaali Aankhen Ye Gore Gore Gaal, Gori Tera Gaon Bada Pyara, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Gori Hai Kalaiyaan, Gore Gore Mukhde Pe Kaala Kaala Chasma...

They even tried to fool us with Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan (white wrists) but ended up not caring enough and adding the English translation in the song as well.

The lockdown life was not chosen by us but the least we can do is stay home and stay safe. The world outside is a depressing territory as we all continue fighting the pandemic. If you are home, safe and healthy, please thank your stars. Instead of finding reasons to venture out, here are 7 shows you can finish watching in just one day:

    1. Behind Her EyesClearly a winner for us! This is one of the most interesting and mind-bending shows you’ll watch in a very long time. A psychologist dealing with an ailing wife who won’t let go of her insecurities and his personal assistant, who he eventually falls in love with. This is not just a love story. It’s a dark and a twisted tale of desire and mind boggling mystery.

    2. The Queen's GambitYou simply have to follow the chess prodigy named Beth Herman who is on a quest to become the biggest chess player in the world. This miniseries is exemplary in terms of how the visualisation is shown for one of the oldest games known to mankind. Special kudos for Anna Taylor Joy’s wonderful act.

    3. Locke & KeyLove a good mystery? Then this show will certainly not disappoint you one bit. This series follows three siblings, who, following their father’s death, move into their ancestral estate with their mother. The show follows their magical and mysterious adventures as they continue finding keys around the house which unlock some very dark secrets.

    4. CrashingIf you’re a fan of Phoebe Waller Bridge and enjoyed her brilliant act in Fleabag, then this one with just 6 episodes will surely not disappoint you. This one follows a motley crew who is surviving and living in a hospital which is turned into a makeshift residency for adults. Very funny and very realistic.

    5. Scam 1992If you have been sitting on this one and haven’t found a chance to watch it, please use this period to delight yourself with the storyline and above all, the marvellous acting of Pratik Gandhi in it. This one is a fictionalised tell-all tale around the Harshad Mehta scam of 1992.

    6. LeilaThis show was released almost 2 years ago but honestly the dystopian vibes it gave is eerily similar to what the political climate of this country today. The show explains class divide , power divide and the scary future that may follow if order is not restored. The aesthetics are very interesting though.

    7. Russian DollThis is a very underrated show and not much was written about when it first released. This comedy-drama follows a woman named Nadia who is stuck in a constant loop because all her days end and begin on the same day, i.e- she is living the same day over and over again. This carnal loop has a very interesting climax and we don’t like spoilers so simply watch it!

The Indian entertainment industry despite its glamour and overall appeal stands to be one of the most cut-throat sectors in the world, with everyone in it going through their career highs and lows.

Even an actor of the pedigree and experience of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan went through his share of really tough challenges through his career. However, like him, the industry serves those who really show their mettle.

Like all entertainment industries, the rules of the game apply to the music industry under it as well.

With there being no dearth of talent, artists despite having a good start, need to reinvent themselves with time and adapt to the dynamic changes in world music.
Leading by example is the talented brother-duo of Amaal and Armaan Mallik, who are known for their melodious voice and are considered to be one of the popular singers in the industry right now.
    © Telegraphindia
Amaal, who is the oldest of the two brothers, is the son of Daboo Malik and Jyothi Malik, and nephew of Anu Malik.

However, he says that when he entered the industry, he wanted to create his own name and prove that he is a "different Mallik".
“Fortunately or unfortunately, I have had the Mallik tag follow me through my life and my career. I belong to a family that is involved in films. I took the film line to prove that I am not Anu Mallik or Dabboo Mallik but a new Mallik. As a 15-year-old, I also had the dream to put out my own music, my own video." said the 29-year-old music composer and singer.
Apart from Bollywood mainstream music, the Indian music industry scene in itself is very diverse with there being a significant number of genres.
    © Twitter
This creates opportunities for budding artists from different parts of the world to bring their own talent and singing style to the main stage while entertaining people and making a name for themselves.

However, this is not easy as just like the Bollywood films, the road is a rather tricky one for musicians as well, with the high competition often resulting in many talented musicians not sustaining in the industry in the long run.
Amaal, however, feels that he did not enter the Bollywood music industry to survive but to conquer.
“I didn’t come here to survive. I came here to rule. So, I am focused on doing that. I don’t try to compete because I am here to make my kind of music. The kind of love I have is enough. It is more important to win heart because charts keep changing every day,” said Armaan.

Delhi has recorded 28,395 new Covid-19 cases and 277 deaths in the past 24 hours. This is Delhi's highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases ever since the pandemic began last year. BJP MP Gautam Gambhir has been targeting Arvind Kejriwal for this situation in Delhi and this is not the first time that he has slammed the CM. Yesterday, he slammed CM Arvind Kejriwal for investing in advertisements instead of hospitals or COVID centres.
He tweeted, “Never wanted to indulge in politics at this time but this pathetic PR drive by @ArvindKejriwal & his minions is the lowest of low. I along with several others spend entire days calling left right & centre to arrange beds, oxygen etc coz he didn’t build a single hospital in 6 yrs.”

    — Gautam Gambhir (@GautamGambhir) April 21, 2021 After his tweet asking for resignation from Delhi’s CM, people started to troll him as people feel he has been doing IPL commentary and should continue doing so. People also went to say that the whole nation is facing a spike and if Arvind has been asked to resign, all the other leaders should do the same. People asked him to quit IPL commentary if he has the vision to fix it and should finally act as a politician.

Whether it is the right-wing whether it is the left or whether it is the middle, whether it is communist? I don’t understand all these ideologies. I have always believed in one ideology. I have always worked for one ideology and the name of that ideology in India.”
“People ask why I joined politics. And what do you want to achieve in politics. And I want to promise you that when I joined politics it was not to reach somewhere. I have already achieved what I wanted to. I have achieved my childhood dream. I came to politics with the only intention of giving something to the country,” he added.

Ahead of the next phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive on May 1, the Serum Institute of India (SII) has announced the prices of its COVISHEILD vaccines. While one dose of this two-dose vaccine will cost Rs 600 for private facilities, it will cost Rs 400 for the state governments.
Serum Institute said the company will serve 50% of the total production to the Government of India's vaccination program, and the remaining 50% of the capacity will be for the State governments and private hospitals.
After the prices were announced, Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar took to his official Twitter handle to question why SII is not giving Covishield at the same price as the center. He tweeted: "Can a spokesperson for the @SerumInstIndia please help us understand why states should not get Covishield at the same price as the center?? And if they have issued a statement citing reasons, could someone please share a link re the same. Thank you."

The actor was brutally trolled for asking this question and people called him dumb and advised him to learn the tax system. They also asked him if he can make them understand the hefty prices of beverages at the multiplexes. People also said that the actors should be giving entrance tests to enter Bollywood.
Thoda tax system jo tumhare ABBA bna gye he unko padlo.. state or union govt ke tax system ke according price fix hota he.

Talking about the film, Mehra earlier said, “Toofaan is a story of an underdog and most importantly, it's a story about spreading love rather than creating differences. Every country, whether rich or poor, is going through some issue or the other and we all carry wounds. Toofaan is not an attempt to scratch those wounds but to apply a soothing balm. Anybody from any part of the world will identify with that.”
The movie will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on May 21.

In 2020, everything came to a standstill amidst the pandemic. The whole nation went in complete lockdown, withdrawing us from leisures, including travel plans as well. By 2021, the situation got better but we are again in the second wave of the pandemic.
    © Instagram/Shruti Haasan
In the midst of all this, several tourist spots including Maldives and Goa became a travel destination for many, especially celebrities. After Amit Sadh, now actress Shruti Haasan and author Shobhaa De are raising their voices and calling out celebrities who are enjoying the holidays and posting pictures of their vacation amidst the pandemic.

    © Instagram/Shruti Haasan
As per reports, Shruti Haasan spoke about how some celebrities are rubbing their vacation in people's faces in such stressful times. She mentioned “Glad they had a great holiday, they deserved it. I did not personally feel it was a time to go maskless in a pool. It has been a tough time for everyone and for some people much more. I think gratitude and being thankful for privileges is what is most important to know versus throwing your privileges in people’s faces.”

She also said, “I was really thankful to go back to work. There were some teams which were extremely responsible and careful. And then there was “one” basically that wasn’t. And I never forgot that we are still in a pandemic. Now it is easy to say ‘oh we’re still in a pandemic’. But, I knew this three months ago. People thought that I was crazy, a psycho aunty yelling all the time. I was always on the edge about it and I don’t think many people appreciated it.”
    View this post on Instagram
Even Shobhaa De posted on her Instagram and re-shared Rohini Iyer's photo that read “For all of you vacationing in Maldives and Goa and exotic locales, remember, it’s a holiday for you. It’s a bloody pandemic all over. So don’t be an insensitive idiot and post pictures of your privileged life. You’re not only coming across as brainless but also completely blind and deaf. This is not the time to boost your Instagram numbers. This is the time to step up and help or if you can’t do anything, then shut up and stay home! Or stay quiet in your holiday home.. Masked up. No Photos. This is not fashion week or Kingfisher Calendar time!”
    © Instagram/Shobhaa De
Shobhaa De captioned it and wrote "It is the height of vulgarity to flaunt those ridiculous pictures. Enjoy the Maldives by all means. You are blessed if you can get such a break in these bleak times. But do everyone a favour… keep it private.”

    © Instagram/Shobhaa De

As soon as Shobhaa De posted this image, people spoke in complete support of the author. Some wrote, "Thanks you've said that we all wanted to say." Another person wrote, "As always you put it perfectly well. Your words convey the opinion of very well informed Indian. Always look forward to reading your articles in newspapers."

After India has been hit by yet another insane second wave, many B-towners have resumed travelling. What's your take on this? Do tell us.

When made properly, and by a director who really knows what he is doing, sci-fi films can be great. Just consider any of the Star Wars (the earlier ones, the later ones don’t count as Star Wars) if you’re looking for an example, and you’ll see, why they’re often so easy to recommend.
    © 20th Century Fox
Except these ”masterpieces” that Bollywood made.

As much as we enjoy sci-fi films though, the reality is, most of us don’t exactly understand the concepts that are being employed in those films. We understand the plot, and the story, but not much beyond that. You have to be really smart, like having a PhD in theoretical physics, to really understand what’s happening.
    © Warner Bros. Pictures
Does that take anything away from the movies though? Heck no!

We list out 6 such sci-fi films, where the audiences understand the story and the plot very well, but have no understanding of the principles that drive the plot.
    Inception © Warner Bros. Pictures
People assume that they understood Inception barring the end. But when you ask them to explain the film, they will either start narrating the film, or start fumbling about the concepts of dream and what not. We think only Nolan really knows what’s going on in the film. Does that mean we don’t understand the story? Not at all. In fact, it is one of the best movie plots, ever written.

    Interstellar © Warner Bros. Pictures
Interstellar is another mind-boggling film, again, from Nolan, that is really enjoyable, and really confusing for a lot of people. In true Nolan fashion, the ending, in particular, left a lot of people dazed and confused. That is not to say that people did not enjoy the film. On the contrary, many people believe that it is one of the best sci-fi films Nolan has made.

    2001: A Space Odyssey © Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
If you’ve ever wondered just how great a filmmaker Stanley Kubrick was, just go and watch 2001: A Space Odyssey. The film is a masterpiece and a seminal piece of cinema for a number of reasons. It remains to be one of the greatest sci-fi films to have ever been made, and on top of everything else, it is a technical masterpiece. It also is a stellar lesson in storytelling. However, it is a little too much for normies to understand in one go. You need to watch this film multiple times to fully understand & appreciate it.

    Lucy © Universal Pictures
Lucy is one complicated film. A pretty enjoyable one, but complicated nonetheless. The theoretical physics in the film are pretty accurate from what we have been told, and have been dumbed down a lot for mere mortals like us. Having said that, there are instances when all the metaphysics, and science become just a tad bit too much for us to comprehend.

    Tenet © Warner Bros. Pictures
One of the most common consensuses for Tenet was it wasn’t as great as some of his other films. Well, might it be the case that you need to watch it again, to truly understand the nuances of the film.
