    JERUSALEM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Benjamin Netanyahu Wednesday on the first ever visit by an Indian premier to Israel as they sought to deepen ties beyond high-priced defence deals.

    The two leaders presented a series of agreements between India and Israel for cooperation on satellite technology, water and agriculture, as well as the creation of a $40 million innovation fund.
    The agreements are part of efforts to extend relations in civilian areas between both countries, with Israel already selling India an average of $1 billion per year in military equipment.
    Netanyahu and Modi have greeted each other warmly throughout the three-day trip that began on Tuesday, calling the visit "historic" and "groundbreaking".
    "I have a feeling that today India and Israel are changing our world and maybe changing parts of the world," Netanyahu said after talks with Modi in Jerusalem.
    He added that they had asked their staffs to put together concrete plans for further cooperation in a range of fields by the end of the year.
    Modi said the discussions extended beyond bilateral projects to "how our cooperation can help the cause of global peace and stability."
    The Indian premier also said they "agreed to do much more together to protect our strategic interests and also cooperate to combat growing radicalisation and terrorism, including in cyberspace."
    Modi´s visit marks 25 years since India and Israel established diplomatic relations.
    Netanyahu and other officials gave him a red carpet welcome at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv as he began his visit on Tuesday.
    Israel, constantly searching for allies at the United Nations and for new business partners, has portrayed the visit as a major diplomatic victory.
    Israeli analysts have noted that Modi is not scheduled to travel to Ramallah to meet Palestinian leaders during his three-day stay, as is common for visiting dignitaries.
    Modi did however meet Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas in New Delhi in May.
    Big-ticket defence deals
    India has traditionally voiced its support for Palestinian statehood, long shunning ties with Israel.
    But the frost has thawed in recent years, with India seeking closer defence ties -- particularly as it moves away from relying on traditional ally Russia for its military hardware.
    India is the world´s biggest importer of defence equipment, and Israel has become one of its major suppliers.
    In April, state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries said India would buy nearly $2 billion worth of weapons technology, making it the military exporting giant´s largest ever defence contract.
    The deal will see IAI provide India with an advanced defence system of medium-range surface-to-air missiles, launchers and communications technology.
    The Hindu nationalist makes the trip after his visit last week to Washington, where he and US President Donald Trump embraced each other as friends, vowing to work more closely on combatting terrorism, the war in Afghanistan and defence cooperation.
    While ties with some US allies have been strained by Trump´s complaints that Washington has been the loser in trade agreements, Modi appeared sensitive to his host´s emphasis on transactional diplomacy.
    Modi has seemed to find similar common ground with Netanyahu, Israel´s longtime right-wing prime minister who hosted Trump in May.

    File Photo BERLIN: German Chancellor Angela Merkel will hold talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of a summit of G20 leading economies starting on Friday in the German port of Hamburg, her spokesperson said on Wednesday.
    Relations between the NATO partners have soured in the last few months. On Tuesday, Turkey condemned as incitement to violence an art installation in front of the German chancellery that portrayed Erdogan as a dictator.

    The spokesperson also said Merkel would discuss the Ukraine crisis with French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

    ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar will hear a petition on disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on July 11 (Tuesday).

    Along with the Chief Justice, the disqualification case will be also presented before Justice Umar ata Bandiyal and Justice Faisal Arab.
    The Supreme Court has issued notices to all relevant parties in the case.
    Meanwhile, Election Commission of Pakistan is also hearing a plea seeking disqualification of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Secretary General Jehangir Tareen for an indefinite period.
    During one of the hearings, PTI?s legal counsel Naeem Bukhari had argued that a similar case is being heard by the Supreme Court, saying the ECP should take its decision once the SC verdict is out.
    The petitioner, Bhutta, had said in his plea that Imran Khan did not mention his Bani Gala residence and London flats in his assets declaration before the ECP. The petition had also stated that the PTI chief failed to abide by Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

    RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army on Wednesday conducted a training launch of short-range surface to surface ballistic missile Nasr, said a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
    Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa witnessed the launch and said, "Nasr has put cold water on cold start".

    He also reiterated and expressed complete confidence in the effective command, control, safety and security of all strategic assets.  

    The statement from the military's media wing added that Pakistan has successfully undertaken a series of training launches and tests during the current week for validation of Nasr's technical parameters. 
    The currents tests validated the missile's enhanced range of 60 yo 70 kilometres and flight manoeuvrability. Nasr is a high precision weapon system with the ability to quickly deploy in the battle area. 
    "This weapon system will augment credible deterrence against prevailing threat spectrum more effectively, including anti-missile defence," said ISPR. 

    The army chief said war must be avoided at all costs and Pakistan's strategic capability is a guarantee against a highly militarised and belligerent neighbour.   

    "Pakistan will go to any length to ensure regional peace and stability," said General Bajwa. 
    The army chief on the occasion also appreciated the standard of training and operational preparedness of Army Strategic Forces and congratulated the engineers and scientists on the occasion, added ISPR.  
    The launch was attended by senior military officials, scientists and engineers.

    KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan Chief Farooq Sattar said on Wednesday that Pakistan People?s Party is resorting to cheap tactics, adding that in the PS-114 byelections Kamran Tessori would emerge successful.
    MQM-Pakistan chief was speaking to media, where he addressed the issue of upcoming by-polls on July 9 in PS-114 constituency.
    He said that the party has not been informed about the details of returning officers and staff stationed at the polling stations, alleging that police has been harassing MQM-P members.
    He further claimed that due to the politics of collusion our appeal has been declined regarding change of polling stations. ?Our 30,000 votes would be wasted,? Sattar said.
    Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan rejected MQM-P?s plea to change 11 polling stations before the bypolls.
    According to sources, the ECP took the decision stating that the by-elections are on schedule and now polling stations cannot be changed.

    Shahrukh Khan's first ever TED Talk in Vancouver earlier this year made waves ? his brilliant and effortless oratory skills impressed people globally. 
    If the past is any barometer, the Oxford lecture would also be as sensational as his previous TED TALK.
    An Indian press report confirmed that SRK has accepted the invitation to deliver a speech at the University and is in the process of working out his dates.
    The same reported quoted Shahrukh as: "I love to talk. Whenever someone invites me to deliver a speech, I always consider it an opportunity. I have been to Yale earlier (in 2012) and now, I have received an invitation from Oxford. I'll go if I have the time and if it fits into my scheme of things."
    We are excited like everyone else; may the day come soon.

    BARCELONA: Lionel Messi has agreed to stay at FC Barcelona until 2021 in a deal that all but commits the star striker to playing out the rest of his top-flight career at the Spanish giants.
    The megastar who joined Barcelona as a teenager 17 years ago will remain at the club until he is 34 under the new deal, the Catalan club announced Wednesday, ending months of speculation about the future of the five-time Ballon d´Or winner.
    "The deal will be signed in the coming weeks, when Messi returns to the team for pre-season training," the club said in a statement, as the 30-year-old enjoyed his honeymoon just days after he wed his childhood sweetheart in Argentina.
    Messi has hinted in the past that he would like to return in the future to Argentina to play for his very first club, CA Newell´s Old Boys in his hometown of Rosario, where he wed last week. But he has also said that his priority is to win more honours with Barca, the club he has called his home since he was 13.
    No financial details of Messi's new contact were disclosed, but Spain's Marca sports daily reported on Tuesday that the deal included a 300-million-euro ($340-million) termination clause.
    Under his current contract, due to run out in June 2018, Messi earns around 20 million euros a year in salary, according to Spanish media -- and this didn´t include millions of euros in revenues earned from ads and performance-linked bonuses.
    Messi joined FC Barcelona in 2000 when he was just 13 years old in the youth training centre.
    "He made his first team debut at just 16 years of age in a friendly against FC Porto, before making his debut the following season against Espanyol at 17," the club said in a statement.
    "Shortly after, he scored his first senior goal with a clever lob against Albacete at the Camp Nou."
    The deal announcement is likely to reassure fans and members of FC Barcelona, which has had a disappointing season by the club´s own high standards.
    The club was eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter finals by Juventus, and came second behind arch-rivals Real Madrid in La Liga, though Barca did win the Copa del Rey.
    Leading scorer
    Messi's contract extension consolidates the much-feared "MSN" striking trio which also includes Brazil´s Neymar and Uruguay´s Luis Suarez.
    Both have also renewed their contracts until 2021.
    With 507 goals scored in 583 official matches, Messi is the club´s all-time leading scorer and is widely considered the world´s best player along with Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, his Real Madrid rival.
    "He´s the best player I´ve ever seen on the pitch," said Ernesto Valverde, Barcelona´s new coach, of Messi.
    Now 30, Messi could have been tempted by other horizons -- having been courted by clubs like PSG and Manchester City -- particularly as he was found guilty last year of tax fraud in Spain.
    But he has lived in Catalonia since his early teens, and currently resides in Barcelona with his now-wife Antonella Roccuzzo, their son Thiago, four, and Mateo, one -- both of whom were born in Spain.
    And Messi himself said in May that his aim as a footballer was to "try and win the most titles possible" with FC Barcelona.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) received Rs 20 million grant from the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in view of hosting the Blind Cricket World Cup scheduled to be held in Sharjah and Pakistan from January 10 to 25, 2018.
    ?A total of Rs 50 million is required to host the Blind Cricket World Cup and we have also requested Punjab government and our other sponsors for their support in this regard,? PBCC Chairman Syed Sultan Shah told APP.
    Sultan also thanked the Prime Minister of Pakistan on bestowing a handsome grant to host the upcoming World Cup.
    ?As many as eight teams who are World Blind Cricket Ltd full members have been invited to participate in the World Cup. Those teams include Australia, West Indies, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal,? he said.
    Sultan said four teams had agreed to play in Pakistan but few showed concerns to visit here, therefore to confirm the participation of all countries in the mega event, PBCC had decided to host the World Cup at two different venues at Sharjah (neutral venue) and Pakistan in January.
    However, the final of the World Cup would be played in Pakistan.
    Pakistan blind cricket team would be selected by a selection committee headed by Syed Salman Bokhari and members Masood Jan and Ibrar Shah.

    China has alleged that the Indian troops are on its soil. BEIJING: China warned Wednesday that the withdrawal of Indian troops from disputed territory was a precondition for peace as tensions rise in a border row between the two Asian powers that has drawn in tiny Bhutan.
    Indian and Chinese troops are reportedly facing off on a section of land high in the Himalayas near what is known as the trijunction, where Tibet, India and Bhutan meet.
    China has alleged that the Indian troops are on its soil, but both Bhutan and India say the area in question is Bhutanese territory.
    India, which has a military presence in Bhutan, says its troops approached a Chinese army unit that entered the Doklam area of the Himalayan nation on June 16 and tried to build a road.
    China´s ambassador to New Delhi, Luo Zhaohui, said Indian troops should "unconditionally pull back to the Indian side".
    "The Chinese government is very clear that it wants peaceful resolution at current state of the situation, for which withdrawal of Indian troops from the area is a pre-condition," he told the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency late Tuesday.
    Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said Beijing has "repeatedly made such requests".
    "If the Indian side refuses to correct its mistakes in a timely fashion, how is it supposed to win the trust of its neighbors?" Geng asked at a regular press briefing.
    Bhutan, one of the world´s smallest countries, has said the construction of a road on its territory is "a direct violation" of agreements with China.
    "Bhutan hopes that the status quo in the Doklam area will be maintained as before 16 June 2017," its foreign ministry said in a statement last week.
    Bhutan has no formal diplomatic relations with China and is closely allied with India.
    The row comes as India´s Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to meet with China´s President Xi Jinping at the G20 summit in Germany this week.
    China and India have a number of border disputes, although the section of the frontier that runs along the northeastern state of Sikkim, near where the current stand-off is taking place, is generally regarded as stable.
    In 2014, hundreds of Indian and Chinese troops faced off on the de facto border known as the Line of Actual Control that runs along the northwest Indian region of Ladakh, overshadowing a visit by China´s President Xi Jinping.
    India and China have vied for influence in South Asia, with Beijing ploughing large sums into infrastructure projects in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
    But the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has remained firmly within New Delhi´s sphere of influence.

    ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry reached the Federal Judicial Academy on Wednesday after being summoned by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Panama Papers case. 
    Chaudhry reached the academy with all relevant documents pertinent to the case. 

    The NAB chairman was summoned earlier in the week and was asked by the JIT to bring documents relevant to the case. 
    Earlier today, daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, made her first appearance before the JIT. 
    The premier's daughter reiterated the claims of her family members and said the investigation team does not have a case against the Sharif family. 
    Maryam said she had answered all the questions asked by the JIT members. 
    "I asked them once their questions ended what we are accused of? They did not have an answer," said Maryam. 

    The JIT, formed on May 5 in light of the Supreme Court's April 20 judgment in the Panama Papers case, was given 60 days to complete its probe.
    However, since the original deadline was falling on a Friday, and with the JIT taking a day off on Eid, July 10 has been decided as the deadline for the JIT to submit its final report to the court's special implementation bench.

    ISLAMABAD: Following Maryam Nawaz's address before the media after she appeared in front of the joint investigation team (JIT) probing the Sharif family's assets, senior journalists analysed the importance of her comments and body language.

    Director Geo News Rana Jawad used the terms ?blunt? and ?defined? to describe Maryam's speech.
    He opined that the premier?s daughter appeared to be ?gusty and blunt? and spoke openly.
    ?She came across as a heavyweight, mature politician,? Jawad said. ?Her speech sounded like it was coming from someone who had been politically trained for many years, it seemed like coming from a person who understands the nitty-gritties and sensitivities of political matters.?
    He added the premier?s daughter made blunt and bold statements about the Panama Leaks case and rejected its authenticity.
    Talat Hussain
    Senior anchorperson and analyst Talat Hussain praised Nawaz?s body language and said her address proved favourable in increasing her political stature.
    ?She seemed angry but her defiance was contained,? he said. ?Not taking questions from members of the press goes on to show that she [Nawaz] is well aware of how to handle the press; overall she played well.?
    He added that there could be three possible audiences to her address including PML-N?s party workers and the establishment.
    Mazhar Abbas
    Senior journalist and analyst Mazhar Abbas made strong allegations against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in his comments. ?It seems like Imran Khan is part of the JIT when PML-N leaders speak to the media after they appear before the team,? he said. ?And PTI?s reaction to PML-N workers sounds like the party is speaking on behalf of the JIT but both reactions are not suitable.?
    Commenting on Maryam's body language, he said the prime minister's daughter ? unlike Finance Minister Ishaq Dar ? neither raised her voice, nor became emotional.
    ?I saw Maryam in 2000 in a courtroom when the prime minister was sentenced to life,? he said. ?Her face had shadows of anger and reservations but today, she seemed to be in control.?
    He added that neither did she read a written statement like her father recnetly, nor did she resemble her brother Hussain Nawaz in her body language.
    ?It seemed like she was clear on what she had to say, and it was a good political response,? Abbas said. ?She made it clear that she is the one who will take Nawaz Sharif?s political legacy ahead.?
    Shahzeb Khanzada
    While commenting on her body language, anchor person and journalist Shahzeb Khanzada said Nawaz expressed herself far better than many senior PML-N leaders, including Ishaq Dar.
    ?Her body language was positive and she didn?t make any personal attacks,? he said. ?Her press talk can be considered a good launch for her political career.?
    He added that she has proved to be a better political player than her brothers and cousins.
    Khanzada opined that PML-N had been trying to portray the premier?s daughter as a weak woman but she didn't play the woman card.
    However, the anchor person stressed that democracy is not associated with the Sharif family and the prime minister must share with the public the information he has about the elements conspiring against his government.
    ?PML-N leaders have been talking about a conspiracy since the past three years and it is high time now that they share this secret with the public,? Khanzada said. ?Will Nawaz Sharif only share this secret if his government is dissolved??
    Discussing the Qatari prince?s letter, the political analyst said that some, not all, questions raised by the PML-N are valid and if these questions are not addressed, the JIT?s verdict will then give a huge opportunity to the ruling party to push their point that a conspiracy was hatched against it.

    Although he praised Maryam's body language, the senior political analyst and anchor person lashed out at her speech, calling it ?incomprehensible narrative.?
    ?She [Maryam] doesn't have the mandate to pose questions to the JIT,? Mir said. ?And when her father presented himself and his family for accountability, then why did she question her summoning before the investigation team??
    Mir added that he failed to understand the audience to Maryam's narrative.
    Commenting on her press conference, he said while she kept asking the journalists to let her complete her speech, she didn?t give them a chance to ask questions.
    ?It only goes on to show that she prefers answering her favourite journalists,? he said, adding that he disagreed with the opinion that her media address served as a good political launch for her. ?It would have been better had she answered a few questions.?
    Comparing her to Hussain, Mir said not only the content of his speech but the latter?s body language was also better than her's.
    The senior journalist said the conspiracy allegation made by the premier?s daughter could be targeted to only two institutions: the judiciary or the military leadership.
    ?No other power apart from the judiciary or military leadership can hatch a conspiracy against the ruling party,? Mir said, citing the 2011 Memogate scandal where the military leadership and judiciary allegedly conspired against the then PPP-government.

    In what seems to be another case of embarrassment for the government of India, a Muslim man in Uttar Pradesh resorted to wearing a burqa to conceal his identity as he was scared of being lynched.

    According to a news report published in the Indian media, travelers at the Agra railway station alerted Government Railway Police (GRP) after observing suspicious movements of a burqa-clad individual. The police immediately detained him.
    The man identified as Nazmul Hassan, an assistant engineer in Aligarh's Kasimpur power station, told the GRP that he wanted to hide his identity as he was scared of being lynched for being a Muslim man, reported Times of India.
    The man told police officials that he had to frequently travel to Delhi to take care of an ailing cousin and had accidentally pushed a man while alighting at the Aligarh railway station last week.
    According to him, the man insulted him and his religion in full public view and threatened him openly, as others joined in, that they would not allow him to live in the city.
    "I had read about Junaid's killing in a train in Ballabhgarh a few days ago. I was scared for my life after the threat, but couldn't avoid traveling. So I thought of wearing a burqa," he told cops.
    Senior sub-inspector (GRP), who is one of the investigating officers in the case, said, "We found nothing suspicious in his statement to police. Different agencies verified that his act of wearing burqa was born out of his fear following the incident that occurred with him at the railway station last week".
    "When Hassan was handed over to the GRP, he was crying and shaking and kept repeating that he is a simple man who has never done anything wrong," said police.
    A Muslim teenager, Junaid, was stabbed to death while his brothers, Hashim and Sakir-- were injured by a mob which also allegedly hurled slurs against them onboard the Delhi-Mathura passenger train between Ballabgarh and Mathura stations.

    We?ve all seen tons of throwback pictures of famous people on social media but have you ever seen one where you couldn?t even recognize the person?
    Well, this Bollywood actress recently posted a picture of herself on Instagram from the bygone years, sending the internet into meltdown as people tried to make sense of it all.
    The photo is from the only play the actress, now 38, ever performed in. It was also her first ever role.
    "My 1st role ever...in the only stage play I have ever done called Dhungpatpatadhundipokoruppopotorpo," reads the caption (can you even begin to pronounce it?!)
    Long, flowing beard, even longer, silvery hair, moustache and half-moon spectacles? Who is this, after all?

    ?You are all sons of [Zulfiqar Ali] Bhutto. We are raising the flag of democracy. We promise that we will continue to fight for democracy,? he told supporters in Dadu, Sindh at an event.
    Referring to the 40th anniversary of Gen Zia-ul-Haq?s martial law, Zardari said that Zia's dictatorship had a brutal effect on Pakistan and the country needs to get out of this mindset and embrace a more democratic tone.
    Zardari also claimed credit for strengthening parliament, saying had he not done so [given up presidential powers], Nawaz Sharif would be the president today [as that would be where the power lies].
    He also spoke in favour of Bhutto, and highlighted the achievements of the PPP founder. 
    ?People often look at the progress China has made, but they forget that Pakistan is still struggling with a martial mindset which does not ensure continuity [of governments],? he stated.
    He ensured workers that PPP would develop Sindh and work towards making Pakistan a regional power.

    Some of the puppies recovered from the suspect. Photo: Geo News  KARACHI: A young man arrested for allegedly conning people into buying phony ?pedigreed? dogs was sent on judicial remand on Wednesday.

    After police produced Sagheer in front of a judicial masgistrate, the judge sent him to jail on judicial remand till July 17.
    However, sources said the suspect could apply for bail as he has been booked on a bail-able offence and thus may avoid spending time in the lockup.
    On Tuesday, police arrested Sagheer from North Nazimabad after a complaint was filed against him by a citizen, Riazuddin, who said he had bought ?pedigreed? dogs from Sagheer but upon giving them a bath, the colour on their coat came off.
    Gulberg SP Bashir Brohi said following the complaint, the police contacted Sagheer through an advertisement he posted on his website offering the sale of purebred dogs. The police later arrested him and recovered four ?German Shepherds? from his possession.

    The police registered a case against the suspect on the complaint of Riazuddin.
    Following his arrest, the accused told the police he and his accomplices would catch strays from the streets and paint over them to change their appearance to pass them of as ?high quality? dogs. They put the photos up online after which people contacted them and they would deliver the dogs at their doorsteps, he explained further, according to the police.

    According to the health department, an 18-month-child was confirmed with the polio virus in the Chaman area of Qilla Abdullah.
    The parents of the child had refused to administer polio drops, the health department added.

    Addressing an event in Chitral, the PTI chief said they [Sharif family members] are being called in a criminal investigation in light of the April 20 Supreme Court judgment.
    ?She?s a normal citizen but 2,500 security personnel were deployed to give her security,? he said, adding that they all consider themselves members of a royal family.

    In the rest of the world people do not know the names of the children of prime ministers and presidents, he explained.
    ?When you end rule of law in a country, society is destroyed,? he claimed.

    Referring to the premier?s son Hasan Nawaz?s recent comments wondering why he has been called thrice by the JIT, Imran said ?you were called because you were a student a few years ago and are now living on a property worth billions of rupees?.

    ?When they?re asked about the money trail they raise a hue and cry,? he added.

    Referring to the lynching of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan student Mashal Khan on April 13, Imran said Mashal was killed because he questioned the political appointments in his varsity [and not over blasphemy allegations]. 
    In a series of tweets earlier, Imran voiced his criticism of Maryam "getting official protocol with police saluting".
    The officer in question was reportedly SP Arsala Saleem, who was specially deputed in light of Maryam's summoning at the JIT.

    She said Maryam Nawaz reached the site in private vehicles of the Sharif family.
    "Imran Khan should explain under which capacity he uses the helicopter of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, and why he is [running away] from the courts," the statement quoted the minister.

    LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesman Fawad Chaudhry hit back at Prime Minister?s daughter Maryam Nawaz after she said the investigators had no case against the Sharif family following her appearance before the joint investigation team (JIT) on Wednesday.
    Speaking to the media, Chaudhry dismissed Maryam?s comments as ?ridiculous? and alleged that she kept changing her statements.
    ?The Sharif family is not used to giving answers. Maryam Nawaz is the front-woman in all this [Panama] saga,? he claimed, adding that the PM?s daughter?s lifestyle was ?no less than that of Arab princesses?.
    ?If the prime minister?s assets grow multifold, then they have to be answerable. How did Maryam Nawaz become the owner of millions of rupees? worth of jewelry?? he questioned.
    Chaudhry further remarked that the JIT had summoned Maryam Nawaz because her brother Hussain Nawaz had admitted to owning properties in Britain.

    Maryam Nawaz earlier said she had answered honestly all the questions asked by the JIT members. "I asked them once their questions ended what we are accused of? They didn?t have an answer!" she said.
    "After six months in the Supreme Court and 70 days in the JIT, I realised today they have nothing against us," she added.
    This is the first JIT in the world that has been formed before knowing what charges to level, she said, reiterating what her brothers have claimed earlier.
    The premier's daughter vowed there is not a shred of evidence against Nawaz Sharif over misuse of public funds, saying "not a penny has been misappropriated".

    MUMBAI: It seems like Salman Khan will be returning the favour and appearing in a cameo role in the next Shah Rukh Khan movie.
    Shah Rukh Khan had made a cameo appearance in Salman Khan's Tubelight. 
    According to reports, Salman will be dancing alongside Shah Rukh in one of the songs for the movie. Rehearsals for the dance have already begun and ace choreographer Remo D?Souza have put all his other commitments on hold.
    Salman is also scheduled to make a guest appearance in Judwaa 2 starring Varun Dhawan.

Photo: Reuters   A three-month-old ban on taking electronic devices such as laptops onto aircraft cabins on flights from Turkey to the United States was lifted on Wednesday, the private Dogan news agency reported.
    On March 25, the United States banned electronic devices larger than a mobile phone from cabins on direct flights to the United States from 10 airports in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey.
    Dogan said flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THYAO.IS) accepted passengers with electronic devices onto its 6:45 a.m. (11:45 p.m. ET on Tuesday) flight from Istanbul's Ataturk Airport to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday morning.
    State-run Anadolu news agency on Tuesday reported Turkey's Transport Minister Ahmet Arslan as saying the ban on the devices on flights from Istanbul to the United States would be lifted on Wednesday.
    US and British officials carried out inspections of security measures at Ataturk Airport on Tuesday, Dogan reported.
    The ban was imposed at the 10 airports in eight countries - Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey - to address fears that bombs could be concealed in electronic devices.
    On Sunday, the ban was lifted on flights from Abu Dhabi.

    Emirates [EMIRA.UL], the Middle East's largest airline, said on Wednesday the in-cabin ban on laptops and other large electronic devices on its flights to the United States had been lifted "effective immediately."

    After closing at Rs104.90 on Tuesday, the dollar gained Rs3.12 to hit Rs108 today.
    In the curb market NBP exchange quote was Rs105.90/106.40, lower than the interbank rate.

    ?July 5 is a day of shame and horror in the history of the country as it was on this day 40 years ago when the nation was hijacked by Bonaparte,? he said in his message for the 'Black Day' ? as July 5 is being observed by the PPP ? to mourn the day the party?s founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto?s government was ousted through a military coup by Gen Ziaul Haq in 1977.
    Zardari lamented the military takeover of the country. ?It was on this day that the military dictator began decimating state institutions, privatizing jihad and enacting black laws against women and non-Muslims in the name of religion."
    "It was on this day that the nation began its collective descent into anarchy and mayhem- a descent that still continues in the name of religion," he said in the message shared by the PPP's media cell.
    Calling for a reversal of Gen Ziaul Haq?s policies of ?privatization of jihad and exploitation of religion for political ends?, he said, ?Let us on this day vow to reverse these policies, fight the mindset of religious extremism and end the privatization of jihad and sectarianism that the dictator?s polices spawned.?

    Senior vice president PPP Hamid Nawaz Awan said on Tuesday that under the directives of Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP Sargodha district wing will hoist black flags and observe black day at Peoples secretariat.

    The Supreme Court of Pakistan. Photo: File  ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition for two senior Sindh police officers charged with a Rs50 million corruption case.
    The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference against two senior Sindh police officials, AIG Finance Fida Hussain Shah and AIG Logistics Tanveer Ahmed, alleging that they generated bogus bills to get funds worth Rs50 million as fuel allowance for vehicles of the Sindh Police.
    After the Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected the accused officials? request for bail on June 19, they 'escaped' from the SHC premises. According to some reports, NAB officials made little effort to arrest them.
    However, Tanvir was arrested by NAB officials from outside the SC today (Tuesday).
