    Indian film star Rishi Kapoor congratulated team Pakistan for its victory against Kohli-11 in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday.

    Kapoor tweeted: ?Yes Pakistan, you have defeated us. Well played, outplayed us in all departments. Many congratulations, I concede. Best wishes!?
    The veteran actor's tweet was appreciated by his fans from across the border as surprisingly earlier he tweeted provocative words against the Pakistani team before the final game.


    But the young Pakistani team, ranked eighth at the beginning of the tournament, proved naysayers like Kapoor wrong, stunning the world by reaching the final and thrashing an in-form and star-studded Indian side by 180 runs to lift the Champions Trophy.

    LONDON: Pakistan?s first global 50-over title since the 1992 World Cup reflected well on their Australian coach Mickey Arthur, who kept his squad from losing focus after their dismal display against the Indians earlier in the tournament.

    Gaining sweet revenge over India, Pakistan thrashed their archrivals by 180 runs at The Oval to win the Champions Trophy for the first time.
    But, Arthur admitted Pakistan were desperate to prove they could go toe to toe with tournament favourites India with the title up for grabs.
    "It?s been an up and down ride for us but I?m so proud of the boys," Arthur said.
    "The whole group kept believing, we knew we were better than what we showed in the first game against India.
    "That was an aberration. We want to be more consistent as a team."
    Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed added: "After the India match in the group stage, I told the players the tournament hadn?t finished yet. Credit goes to my boys.
    "Fakhar is a great impact player, he played like a champion batsman. Amir bowled brilliantly but all my bowlers bowled really well."
    India captain Kohli conceded Pakistan were worthy winners and, while he claimed to be proud of his players, his admission that the new champions played with more passion was a damning indictment.
    "I want to congratulate Pakistan first, they had an amazing tournament. The way they turned things around speaks volumes for the talent they have in their side," Kohli said.
    "They were more intense and passionate today, they deserved to win.
    "I?m disappointed but I have a smile on my face because I?m proud of how my team has performed in the tournament overall."

    Just two weeks ago, Pakistan were at a low ebb after crashing to a humiliating 124-run defeat against India in the group stage.
    But Pakistan batsman Hafeez says his team-mates vowed to stick together despite the avalanche of criticism and they reaped the rewards in memorable fashion on Sunday.
    Gaining sweet revenge over India, Pakistan thrashed their arch-rivals by 180 runs at The Oval to win the Champions Trophy for the first time.
    "It´s a great team effort. After losing the first game, we had no chance to lose again," said Hafeez, who played an important role in the win with a classy 57 not out.
    "We showed great character. I´m so happy for the nation of Pakistan who have been waiting for this for a long time."
    Fakhar Zaman´s maiden one-day international hundred laid the foundations for Pakistan´s formidable total of 338-4.
    After man of the match Fakhar finished on 114, Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Amir ripped the heart out of the India batting line-up with the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli.
    India, looking to retain the Champions Trophy, went down without a fight as they collapsed to 158 all out and Amir felt his spell was crucial.
    "Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli have been in tremendous form so I was looking for early wickets -- and I did it," he said.

    Photo: File Iran and China began a joint naval exercise in the Gulf on Sunday, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.
    The military drill comes at a time of heightened tension between the Iranian and US military in the Gulf and is likely to be a cause of concern for Washington.
    In recent months, the US navy has accused the Iranian navy of sending fast-attack boats to harass warships as they pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
    An Iranian destroyer and two Chinese destroyers are among the vessels that will participate in the exercise, which will take place in the eastern portion of the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman, according to IRNA. Some 700 Iranian navy personnel will be participating in the drill.
    Two Chinese warships docked at Iran's Bandar Abbas port to take part in a joint naval exercise in the Gulf for the first time in 2014.

Referring to Shakil-ur-Rahman, he objected to the way, they had given coverage with reference to the Panama case.
    He asked was this the job of a media house to protect the corrupt and cover up corruption. ?You are defaming the Supreme Court and running false stories. Some Whatsapp was surfaced, which was a conspiracy against this corrupt (Sharif) family.?
    He added the entire nation was devastated due to corruption and annually Rs 1000 billion was going out through money laundering; same money could be invested in Pakistan and this would generate jobs.
    Imran said that the biggest money launderers were Nawaz, his family and Ishaq Dar.
    ?Is the job of the media to cover up their corruption and file false stories, like Nawaz appeared before JIT by risking his life, Mughl-e-Azam is going before JIT and that history is being written?? he asked. Imran maintained that he was not against Jang or The News journalists but against the policy of a kingmaker, who is making decisions that in Pakistan ?you may commit dacoities, I am with you.? ?The job of the media is to bring forward truth and uncover corruption and not to project the corrupt person,? he noted. The entire nation and Pakistani children, he added, knew that they were lying for over a year about their London apartments and having no money trail.
    Meanwhile, the PTI issued a statement announcing boycott of the media House and announced to withdraw its representation from all forums run by Geo and Jang Group. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Jang Group has vehemently denied the allegations of Imran Khan.
    The spokesman said Imran wants the Jang Group to side with him, instead of upholding its tradition of presenting stance of all stakeholders. He said the Panama Leaks news was broken by the Jang Group. The group enjoys the honour that its journalists published this news with all details and names. Besides, many other news items regarding the Panama case were regularly presented.
    The spokesman said Imran wants the Jang Group and its policies to favour him. He said the Jang gives all types of stances for the people so that their information may increase and they may decide appropriately. Imran has levelled such allegations earlier also and the Jang Group has challenged them in courts in Pakistan and Britain and has won cases. In fact, Imran is making efforts to make the Jang Group disputed so that people may believe that the Group is in favour of one party and against the other. The spokesman refuted the allegations of Imran and vowed to challenge them in court of law.

    ISLAMABAD: There are chances of Shawal moon being sighted on June 25, following which Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on June 26, according to a letter written by the Meteorological Office to Ministry of Religious Affairs.

    The Met department said that there are high chances of the Eid moon to be visible on June 25.
    According to the letter, the birth of the Shawal moon would be on June 24 at 7:31 AM in the morning.
    According to Science, the moon of Shawal would be visible on the evening of June 25, while the weather would remain clear and partly cloudy.
    The age of the Shawal moon on June 25 would be more than 36 hours. The Ministry of Religious Affairs sent the Met office?s letter to the Central Ruet-Hilal Committee.

    LOS ANGELES: Pop diva Beyonce and her rap mogul husband Jay Z have welcomed twins, according to US media reports on the two new members of music's royal family that already includes five-year-old Blue Ivy.
    News that the songstress had given birth, reported by entertainment outlets including People magazine and US Weekly, ignited social media, with the so-called "Bey hive" fan group buzzing over the yet unrevealed sexes and names of the latest additions to the Carter Clan.
    US Weekly cited multiple unidentified sources as saying that the twins were born earlier this week. Entertainment news outlet E!, also citing unidentified sources, said the couple had been spotted at a Los Angeles area hospital on Thursday.
    Speculation grew when an unidentified woman was photographed Friday carrying a large bouquet of pink, blue and purple flowers -- complete with a card that appeared to read "B + J" -- along with twin pink and blue balloons in the shape of feet that read "Baby Girl" and "Baby Boy."
    A representative for Beyonce did not immediately respond to AFP's request for comment.
    Superstar Beyonce in February made the blockbuster reveal that she was expecting.
    She commanded control of the internet by posting a picture of herself kneeling beside a human-size floral arrangement, her hands cradling her rounded belly.
    "We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over," the 35-year-old singer wrote.
    "We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for all your well wishes," she added, signing with Jay Z.
    Guessing games
    Speculation that Beyonce's due date had approached was fueled earlier this week when husband Jay Z, 47, was absent at the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
    The rapper, who grew up as Shawn Carter, took to Twitter to thank artists who had influenced him as well as former US president Barack Obama.
    Obama hailed the hip-hop mogul -- who campaigned actively with Beyonce for the first African-American president -- as a kindred spirit at the event in a surprise appearance by video.
    "Jay and I are also fools for our daughters, although he's going to have me beat once those twins show up," the former president and father of two joked.
    Some fans clamoring for details on the twins took Obama's aside as a hint that the babies might be girls.
    But despite rumblings and guessing games no concrete details regarding sexes or names of the babies have been revealed.
    Beyonce and Jay Z are among the most commercially successful figures in music, with a combined net worth estimated at $1 billion.
    Big sister Blue Ivy
    As an expectant mother Beyonce made a New Age celebration of women at the Grammy Awards earlier this year -- putting on an extravagant, abstract performance while proudly displaying her baby bump cloaked in a flowing gold gown.
    She pulled out of her headlining spot at April's Coachella music festival in southern California, however, on the advice of her doctors.
    She still made a number of red carpet appearances while carrying the twins and documented her pregnancy via social media -- to the joy of her adoring fans.
    Beyonce's mic-drop pregnancy announcement had triggered intrigue over the fact that it came a little more than nine months after her last album "Lemonade" -- in which she strongly hinted that Jay Z was unfaithful.
    One lyric warns an unfaithful man of a "final warning" that he´s "gonna lose your wife" if his behavior doesn't change.
    A sullen Jay Z appears at the end of the film to embrace her, suggesting reconciliation.
    And on the couple's ninth wedding anniversary in April, Beyonce released an updated video for her romantic ballad "Die With You."
    It features home video-esque footage of tender moments between the couple as well as clips from Blue Ivy's birth and toddler years, ending with a scene of the new big sister of the family kissing her mother's pregnant belly.

Photo: Reuters PARIS: French voters cast their ballots in the second round of a parliamentary election on Sunday expected to hand President Emmanuel Macron a landslide majority that should allow him to embark on deep social and economic reforms.
    The vote comes just a month after the 39-year-old former banker became the youngest head of state in modern French history, promising to clean up French politics and revive the euro zone's second biggest economy.
    Turnout, though, could touch record lows, in a sign of voter fatigue after seven months of campaigning and voting, but also of disillusionment and anger with politics that could eventually complicate Macron's reform drive.
    Macron's centrist Republic on the Move (LREM) party is barely more than a year old, yet pollsters project it will win as many as 75-80 percent of seats in the 577-seat lower house.
    "People know it's already a done deal," Alex Mpoy, a 38-year-old security guard told Reuters TV, echoing the apathy of many voters who intend to abstain.

    Macron cast his vote early in the morning in the seaside resort of Le Touquet before flying to a ceremony outside Paris to mark the anniversary of Charles de Gaulle's 1940 appeal for French resistance to Nazi Germany's occupation.
    Polls show Macron is on course to win the biggest parliamentary majority since that held by de Gaulle's own conservatives in 1968.
    Many of Macron's lawmakers will be political novices, something which will change the face of parliament at the expense of the conservative and socialist parties that have ruled France for decades.
    One of the challenges for Macron as he sets out to overhaul labour rules, cut tens of thousands of public sector jobs and invest billions of public cash in areas including job training and renewable energy, will be to keep such a diverse and politically raw group of lawmakers united behind him.
    "There has never been such a paradox between a high concentration of power and strong tensions and expectations in terms of changes," Laurent Berger, head of France's CFDT union, told the weekly Journal du Dimanche.
    "There is no place for euphoria in victory. There is no providential man, no miracle solution".
    Macron's rivals have urged voters not to stay at home, warning power would be concentrated in the hands of one party and democratic debate stifled.
    "We need other parties to have some weight," 54-year-old assembly line worker Veronique Franqueville said on the parking lot of a tumble-dryer factory in the northern town of Amiens. "If he wins it all there will be no debate."
    Among Macron supporters the mood is very different, with an overwhelming feeling that the president needs to be given a strong enough majority to carry out the policies on which he was elected just over a month ago.
    Under pressure
    The election is set to send shockwaves through the older parties, with their unity, and even survival, at stake.

    The conservative The Republicans are expected to be the biggest opposition group in parliament. But polls see them securing no more than 90-95 seats out of 577.
    Some Republican lawmakers could create a separate group to back Macron on a case-by-case basis, while others may see a future firmly in the opposition.
    The Socialist Party, which ruled France until last month, faces a humiliating defeat, which could see them with no more than 25-35 seats.
    The election also spells trouble for the far-right National Front (FN), seen with only between one and six seats when earlier it had hoped to secure a "massive" presence in parliament. Its leader, Marine Le Pen, is expected to be among those who will be elected.
    Far-left leader Jean-Luc Melenchon is also seen winning a seat in parliament. But polls are unclear if his France Unbowed party will reach the 15-strong threshold required to be able to form a parliamentary group.
    Polling stations close at 6pm local time (1600 GMT) in small and medium towns and at 8pm local time (1800 GMT) in Paris and other big cities.
    At that time, pollsters will give projections of the result and official results will start trickling in.

    But Pakistan made one change, with the fit-again Mohammad Amir, who missed Wednesday´s impressive eight-wicket semi-final win over previously unbeaten tournament hosts England with a back spasm, returning.
    Amir replaced fellow left-arm quick Rumman Raees, who marked his one-day international debut with two wickets against England.
    India´s lone loss so far in this tournament, featuring the world´s top eight ODI nations, was at The Oval when they suffered a surprise seven-wicket defeat by Sri Lanka on June 8.

    While addressing a press conference, he said that after the verdict of the Supreme Court in the Panama Leaks case, any sort of emergency situation can arise; either announcement of general elections or another movement.
    The Joint Investigation Team is going to present its 15-day report to the Supreme Court before Eid. ?Looking at the pace of the investigation it seems that the verdict will be announced soon. The court can give the verdict at any time.?
    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders failed to submit a reply to the Supreme Court pertaining to their apartments in United Kingdom, he said, adding these people want to hide statements of witnesses.
    The more the ruling leaders are trying to escape from this quicksand, the more they are getting trapped in it. The leaders have entangled themselves in a maze, remarked Chaudhry.

    LONDON: Spinner Imad Wasim has said Pakistan are ready to play their hearts out in the Champions Trophy finale against India today.
    Speaking ahead of the mega clash, Imad said he is really excited about the big game and he and his teammates are going to give their very best to win the title.
    ?It?s a massive game. Emotions are running high but we are not taking pressure. We will play our hearts out against India. But we are treating it as any other knockout match,? he said.
    Imad said the tournament has so far gone very well for him and he will play to the best of his capabilities in the final.
    ?I have bowled well. I?m looking forward to bat as well. I have prepared my plans for the game. The wicket is really good. It will be a good match,? he added.

    Chaman border crossing ? Bab-e-Dosti ? in this file photo.  CHAMAN: Residents of Killi Luqman and Killi Jahangir villages on the border with Afghanistan have started returning to their homes after fleeing as a result of cross-border clashes.

    Around 5,000 people had left their homes following clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan?s security forces on May 5.
    As a result of the incident, the border was also closed but later reopened on May 22 following ?request of Afghan authorities?.
    The clashes erupted after Afghan border forces fired on Frontier Corps Balochistan soldiers accompanying a census team in the border villages. Kabul, which does not recognise the international border between the two countries, said the villages are located on Afghan territory.

    OPEC holds its next regular meeting in Vienna on November, 30.
    "No one is talking about extraordinary. We are at the beginning of the agreement, I think we need to give it a little bit of time," Suhail bin Mohammed al-Mazrouei told reporters in Dubai.
    OPEC and non-members led by Russia decided on May 25 to extend cuts in oil output by nine months to March 2018 as they battle a global glut of crude.
    Mazrouei also said he expected demand for oil to pick up in the third quarter of the year.
    "The third quarter is coming and the holidays are coming and demand will pick up. This is typical - at the end of the second quarter every year, you have a slowdown."

    The click shows India?s most successful captain Dhoni all smiles with Sarfraz?s baby son Abdullah in his arms. The picture, now viral, was reportedly taken in a hotel lobby in London, a day before the two teams clash for Champions Trophy title at The Oval.
    Dhoni, as captain, led India to the 2013 Champions Trophy title. This heartwarming gesture by him truly goes to show sport transcends all boundaries.

    The alligator was about 12 feet long and that while she took the photos from a safe distance, she was "close enough." 
    According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, the state record for an alligator is 14 feet 3.5 inches.

    Dozens of people were killed or wounded when as many as five suicide bombers attacked a police headquarters in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, officials said.
    The attack, claimed by the Taliban, began around 6:30 am (0200 GMT) when one bomber detonated a car packed with explosives at the gate of the police headquarters in Gardez city, capital of Paktia province, said Najib Danish, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry.
    Four more attackers stormed the gate after the blast, with at least two quickly killed by police. The others held out against Afghan Special Forces that had responded to the attack, he said.
    Danish put the toll at two police killed and five wounded.
    However, doctors at the city hospital said they had received the bodies of at least five police, as well as at least 30 wounded people, including 20 civilians.
    The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, with spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid reporting more than 100 police were killed and wounded. The militant group often exaggerates casualty numbers in attacks against government targets and security forces.

    Sources said the premier and his family are travelling on a commercial airliner in what has been dubbed a ?private? visit.
    The premier is expected to perform Umrah in Makkah, and then proceed to Medina to visit Masjid-e-Nabvi. The Sharif family usually spends the last 10 days of Ramazan in the Holy Cities.
    A meeting of the prime minister with Saudi King Salman bin Abdul al-Aziz cannot be ruled out, sources said further.
    The on June 25, the prime minister is expected to go to London for a medical checkup. On May 31 last year, the premier underwent a heart surgery in London. In that visit, Sharif spent almost 50 days out of the country while the Panama crisis was brewing at home.
    His present trip is also being taken under somewhat similar circumstances as the Supreme Court-appointed Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT) is probing the Sharif family?s international money trail.
    On Thursday, the prime minister appeared before the JIT for three hours after being summoned to answer questions and record his statement.


    He is expected to return to the country on June 30 while the investigators are expected to submit their probe report to the Supreme Court on July 7.
    Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain, who is already in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah and spend the last days of Ramazan in the Holy Cities, met King Salman and discussed matters of mutual interest.

    New Zealand's Trade Minister Todd McClay in Vietnam May 22, 2017. Photo: Reuters  The United States has indicated it is open to a free trade agreement (FTA) with New Zealand, New Zealand's trade minister said on Sunday.

    Todd McClay visited Washington for high-level trade talks with the administration of US President Donald Trump this week, meeting with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, newly appointed US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and other advisors to the president.
    ?I've welcomed their interest in an FTA as a demonstration of the good shape our trading relationship is in," McClay said in a statement.
    McClay said his center right government wants free-trade agreements to cover 90 percent of goods exported by 2030, up from just over half currently, and the US will be an important part of achieving that.
    Two-way trade between the two countries reached $16 billion in 2016, making the United States New Zealand?s third-largest individual trading partner, according to New Zealand?s ministry of foreign affairs and trade.
    New Zealand's $180 billion economy depends on exports, and the country lobbied hard in favour of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.
    Alongside Japan and Australia, New Zealand is trying to negotiate a deal with the 11 remaining countries of the TPP after the United States withdrew.
    Trump dumped membership of the TPP as one of his first acts in an "America First" policy aiming at bringing manufacturing jobs back to the United States.
    He said he would seek one-on-one trade deals with countries that would allow the United States to quickly terminate them in 30 days "if somebody misbehaves."
    McClay said he had a constructive meeting with Lighthizer and said Ross indicated he saw no major impediments to a trade deal with his country.

Photo: Reuters  US singer Beyonce has given birth to twins in Los Angeles, several celebrity news websites reported on Saturday, citing unidentified sources.

    Beyonce, 35, and rapper and music producer Jay Z, already have a five-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy.
    E! News, citing multiple unidentified sources, reported the birth and that Jay Z and Blue Ivy were seen at a Los Angeles area hospital on Thursday.
    Us Weekly, also citing multiple unidentified sources, reported that the couple welcomed twins earlier this week.
    "Bey and Jay are thrilled and have started sharing the news with their family and closest friends," one unidentified source told PEOPLE.
    Reuters could not verify the reports. A representative for Beyonce did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
    The celebrity news websites did not provide additional details, such as the date and time the twins were born or the *** of the infants.
    The "Lemonade" singer, one of the most powerful women in the music business, announced the pregnancy on her Instagram account in February along with an image of her posed in lingerie and caressing a noticeable baby bump.
    The announcement got more than 8 million "likes" in the first 24 hours to become the "most-liked" Instagram ever.
    The R&B singer performed live at the Grammy awards in Los Angeles two weeks later, proudly displaying her swelling belly in a motherhood-themed show. She has since posted numerous pictures of her bare baby bump on her social media accounts.
    The birth of Blue Ivy caused a paparazzi storm in 2012, with New York's Lenox Hill hospital shutting down part of its maternity wing to accommodate music's royal couple.
    News of the pregnancy came less than a year after the release of Beyonce's 2016 album "Lemonade," in which she appeared to address long-standing rumours of trouble in her eight-year marriage.
    The lyrics of several songs spoke about being cheated on, and regretting being married. But Beyonce made clear in the final tracks of the album and in music videos featuring Jay-Z that she had decided to stay in the relationship.
    The couple have never addressed the rumours publicly.
