  1. As much as we like Bollywood, it aches to see just how bad the industry is when it comes to making a film about cars. And then, people from the industry say that Bollywood can easily make a better version of the Fast & Furious movies. Not that they are the benchmark of movies that are based on cars, not anymore. © Universal Pictures But honestly, Bollywood is downright terrible. The closest thing we had to a decent, watchable movie for that era, where a car was the hero, was Taarzan. The DC modified Maruti Esteem was pretty cool, especially for a generation who hadnât been exposed to names like Pagani, Lamborghini, & Alfa Romeo. However, the rest of the film was sordid. © All Car Index And it is not as if Bollywood is not capable of making a decent, watchable film with great cars. We did with bikes, in Dhoom, didnât we? © Yash Raj Films Here are 5 films that prove Bollywood just doesnât know how to make a good movie with cars and instead is ruining the very concept of it. Players, 2012 First of all, how on earth was the film approved? Not only did they decimate the notion of cars as something sexy and awe-inspiring, it also ruined the classic that The Italian Job was. Seriously, this one was a disaster of a film. Had they made an exact copy of The Italian Job, it still would have been better, at least it would have been watchable. But no, they just had to add their own masala to it and ruin a script with proven potential. The Entire Race Franchise If you found any of the Race films superb, there is something seriously wrong with you. With each passing iteration, it just got cringier and cringier, and then it finally culminated in the disaster that Race 3 was. Race 1 & Race 2 could have been so, so much better. They had some amazing cars. There could have been some really awesome racing or chasing sequences. But all of them fizzled out. Drive, 2019 Sushant Singh Rajput is a very capable actor, and we genuinely like most of his films. However, Drive was a colossal mistake. It was just badly made. The CGI race sequences looked like they had been lifted from 2004âs Need For Speed: Underground 2. It was that bad. For a movie that has been named âDriveâ you would expect that they would at least get their cars to look right. But no. Honestly guys, no matter how bored you get, please, do not watch this one. Machine, 2017 We seriously havenât been able to wrap our heads around why would anyone make a movie as bad as this. We bet you wonât be able to sit through the trailer of the film without shaking your head in dismay. Honestly, this is a disgrace to every petrolhead out there. Dilwale 2015 Of course, Dilwale made the list. Dilwale had some really great people working on it, especially people who work behind the scenes. Apparently, the people who worked in Daniel Craig starer Casino Royale, were hired for the chase sequences. And yet, we ended up with something that was comical at best. And can I just say, that some of the modded cars were just hideous? © Viral Bhayani This is just one of the cars that they used in the film. It was very disappointing in every way one can think of. 2. The new normal amidst the pandemic says that stepping out without a mask is perilous. This has become a way of life as we struggle with the novel Coronavirus. Authorities all over the world have made wearing a mask, along with usage of sanitiser and washing hands a mandate. Addressing the same, a lot of celebrities are showing some quick ways to make masks at home, with the help of cloth and so many other things. View this post on InstagramA post shared by (@ronitboseroy) But, Ronit Roy added a unique twist and posted a video where he showed how to make a mask out of a T-shirt. While this video did garner a lot of attention back then, it has now gone viral once again, this time in the US. If anyone is protesting today, hereâs a way to make a balaclava mask with a T Shirt. Donât forget your shades. pic.twitter.com/Xg67uTZN07 â THE ONE ABOVE ALL (@MRCRUZv3) May 30, 2020 A Twitter user recently shared this video on the social media platform and wrote âIf anyone is protesting today, hereâs a way to make a balaclava mask with a T-Shirt. Donât forget your shades,â The user is basically hinting the people of the US to stay safe when they step outside. The reference is linked to the recent death of a black man, George Floyd whose tragic death has led to a lot of uproar in the country. There's a whole lot of protest going on due to his death. Roy's video which was posted back then received, which received more than 100k retweets, suddenly went viral again, this time for another good cause, which looks surreal. Reacting to this, he wrote an Instagram message and said "My first tweet with 1M views. Unexpected but Iâm happy that it was for a helpful thing and not something vain and trivial.â Step by step Step 1: Pull the T-shirt over your head until the neck opening lines up with your nose. Step 2: Fold the bottom of the shirt up once, and double-fold it down across your face. Step 3: Criss-cross the back of the T-shirt once and pull up over the top of your head. â THE ONE ABOVE ALL (@MRCRUZv3) May 30, 2020 The user who posted the video on his Twitter account added a guide in the next tweet and wrote, "Pull the T-shirt over your head until the neck opening lines up with your nose. 3. Some people continue doing the good work and donât expect any recognition in return. A group of men from Kerala has been delivering medicines free of cost amid the Coronavirus pandemic, is a testament to the fact that humanity is alive. This volunteer group was formed in the year 2018 when severe floods hit Kerela. These men started delivering medicines and essentials at that time. Now, two years later, they regrouped and are now helping people amid the Coronavirus lockdown. The group is now delivering food kits, masks, and water to people who are needy and cannot either afford to buy it or canât go out of their houses. Not only this, they have also been delivering personal protective equipment to police officials and the health workers whose lives are in line while fighting the disease. The Flood Volunteers Family consists of over 250 members and a few of them deliver medicines in parts of Ernakulam, Kollam, and Kottayam as well. They donât charge any delivery fees for delivering the medicines and in some cases, the cost of the meds is also not taken from people who canât afford it. © Facebook/FVF This group has helped over 119 patients in over 90 spots in Kerala so far and all this while maintaining social distancing and keeping themselves safe. Recently, Kartik Aaryan also decided to share the much needed positive news stories during the lockdown. Kartik has decided upon spreading the good news just like memes and took to his Instagram recently and posted a video as a shoutout to this volunteer group. © Facebok/FVF In the video, he elaborated on how these men were doing a great job at the time of such a crisis. 4. Being successful in anything you do is never a cakewalk. Lives of the successful might look bright and beautiful but even they were once at a stage wherein fame and goals were a far game for them. Rejections are just a milestone of reaching to the top of the hill. Many acclaimed Bollywood actors were also once rejected but their consistency and hard-work led them to where-ever they are today. Here is a list of Bollywood actors who were rejected at the beginning of their career but won us over with consistency: 1. Heâs the countryâs heartthrob today and has given many Bollywood blockbusters to his audience to hold onto for a lifetime. Also, his fan base proves that we all love him and canât get enough of him. 2. Anushka Sharma View this post on InstagramKnowing what I want to eat and making me laugh ! My husband has figured it out ð¥°ððA post shared by (@anushkasharma) Anushka Sharma was initially rejected for not having the âBollywood looksâ. However, with her work and the choice of her films, she proved how she is meant to be in the industry. Irrfan Khan View this post on InstagramHaasil se Hindi Medium tak , villain se popular Hero tak. Thank you #StarScreenAwards2017 !!A post shared by (@irrfan) Irrfan Khan created his own niche in the country. His fans skipped a beat as soon as the news of his demise went public. In the early years of his career he was rejected by many directors for just his looks. He is the only actor who has been able to make it big in both Hollywood and Bollywood and has given us some amazing movies to re-watch. 5. We are safe inside our homes and have the privilege of staying at home, and not being at the war front, as doctors, nurses, and all the frontline heroes are making sure that we all can sit peacefully at home. Itâs time that we stand united and give them a heartfelt tribute. Well, Bollywood celebs are leaving no stone unturned to make people realise the sacrifices these frontline warriors are making as they are keeping their lives at stake to ensure the countrymen are safe. Akshay Kumar took to social media to share a special version of Teri Mitti, which was first used in Akshay's 2019 film Kesari. It's a known fact that Kapil is a well-known comedian of India and his acts are one of the most reliable ways to stay sane during the lockdown. This time, instead of making a rib-tickling act, he resorted to singing soulful Punjabi songs that included the very famous song Kamli by Gurdaas Mann. Not just that, what shook us is that he was playing the song with a harmonium. Unbelievable, right? © Instagram/Mika Singh © Instagram/Mika Singh Not just Kapil, but even Mika Singh took to Instagram and posted several stories of the jamming session. Since they both live in the same building and this seems like the best way to show off their Punjabi side, they both sang straight from their hearts and literally made us miss the outside world. Just within a few minutes of posting this video, it was flooded with several positive comments. © Instagram/Mika Singh Besides all the fun, most of the people from Bollywood have come forward and made several donations to the PM relief fund. The comedian also announced the same and donated Rs 50 Lakh to help the country fight the pandemic. © IMDB It sure looks like a great treat and seems to be the best way to stay sane during the pandemic. But in the end, it is also making us want to step out and enjoy some daaru, while we listen to some Punjabi hits with our bros. View the full article
  7. Elon Musk is the most unusual billionaire, and we don't even know what he'll do, because it's always the unexpected. Along with being the genius owner of Tesla and SpaceX, he's also basically a troll on Twitter at this point. Just going through his tweets sometimes makes me question, "how high is this guy right now?" And well, I of course picture this iconic moment. © Twitter Now, we all know that Tesla's latest exciting offering is the Cybertruck, which looks like something we all drew as a kid, and it's so weird that it's actually cool. People have already pre-booked this unique looking car/truck/whatever and Elon himself has been driving the prototype around LA for months, increasing the hype even more. 8. For someone who was was cut from a football team and lived in Florida with only $7 in his pocket, Dwayne Johnson, popularly known as 'The Rock, has now become one of the most inspiring success stories for the youth. Born into a family of pro wrestlers, it was only a matter of time for Johnson to follow in the footsteps of his parents, but no one could have anticipated where the young lad would eventually reach in the years to come. © Reuters Making his debut in World Wrestling Federation (WWF), rechristened as WWE later, in 1996, the budding wrestler had his own share of struggles initially. But, under the tutelage of his idol Bret 'The Hitman' Hart, the youngster embarked on a journey that eventually took him to the pinnacle of pro wrestling. Winning his first WWF Championship in 1998, 'The Rock' played a key role in helping the WWF usher into the 'Attitude Era' - a boom period in the company's business in the late 90s and early 2000s which still holds professional wrestling records for TV ratings. In 2004, he left WWE to pursue an acting career and went on a seven-year hiatus before returning as a part-time performer in 2011. © Instagram He eventually announced his retirement from WWE for good in 2019 but by the time he was done, 'The Rock' had established himself as one of the greatest professional wrestlers and biggest draws of all-time. Today, he is not only a wrestling legend but also a successful actor, producer and businessman. With an estimated net worth of over $300 million, 'The Rock' has pretty much everything one can dream of. Thanks to his massive fanbase, he is also making an absolute killing on social media. According to the Instagram Richlist for 2019, the 47-year-old earns a whopping $882,000 (Rs 6,73,73,775) per post. 9. Farah Khan called the workout videos ?shallow?, but also issued an apology for all those who got offended
  10. Salman Khan has also announced to support the B-town?s 25,000 daily wage workers amid coronavirus lockdown.
  11. Right from film shoots to the new movies releases, everything came to a standstill amidst the coronavirus lockdown. Every activity has been halted in India, and it has been a while now since we have been quarantining. If it has affected us, it has also affected B-town celebrities who are also in self-isolation currently which means that even the paparazzi world has stopped taking pictures during the lockdown. With airports, gyms and studios being shut, the destinations for paparazzi pictures are all empty. In the midst of all this, we decided to do a throwback of our favourite celebrity pictures that are making us miss the paps big time. 1. Ranveer Singh in a purple coat © Viral Bhayani Ranveer Singh tops our list of paparazzi pictures and by now, we all know how he is all about being extra and over the top. Even the paps never miss a chance to take his pictures. From his bizarre outfits to shoes, his sartorial choices are unmatched. This one picture garnered a lot of attention with the purple overcoat that looked like a bubble wrap and shoes that were overly long. Can't wait for Ranveer and the paps to step out, honestly! 2. Asim Riaz spotted in oversized sneakers © Viral Bhayani Asim is a new face on the paparazzi block since his stint in Bigg Boss 13. He had already garnered all the attention on the show and is now also on the paparazzi's list of getting clicked every time he steps out. Before the lockdown was announced, Asim was photographed wearing a zany pair of sneakers that had an exaggerated sole. The pictures were so crisp that we went ahead and scoured the details of his outfit. Well done, paps! 3. Shahid Kapoor before the lockdown © Viral Bhayani Shahid Kapoor was busy shooting for his upcoming movie Jersey which has also come to a standstill due to the outbreak of the novel virus. His last airport stint was quite impressive where he was spotted motivating people to make use of masks and sanitisers. The airport arena used to be a major source for paps to click celebrities and even that has been suspended to control the spread of the virus. 4. Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra around the holi party © Viral Bhayani If the paps wouldn't have clicked pictures, we wouldn't have been able to give you any insider infp into what these celebrities are wearing. Having said that, spotting a watch on a celebrity is a task, but not when we have well-clicked images. Nick Jonas was last spotted while heading back to the US with Priyanka Chopra where we saw him sporting his Rolex which was worth Rs 29 Lakh. Would all this be possible without our paps? Not at all. 5. Saif Ali Khan movie promotions © Viral Bhayani Not just airport pictures, but we miss pictures of celebrities during promotions of their movies. This is from the time when Saif Ali Khan was promoting Jawaani Jaaneman. Besides his on-screen humour, this impeccable actor is also known for his fashion game and this ensemble is a perfect example to show you what we mean. Acing the baggy trend is not a cakewalk, but Saif can do it with panache. Don't you agree? 6. Arjun Kapoor sweating out wearing expensive pyjama © Viral Bhayani For a lot of people, the biggest setback of this lockdown is that there's no access to gyms as well. Hence, even celebrities are opting to work out at home, with the help of their instructors. These areas were also a hub for the paparazzi to spot celebrities post their workout sesh. Here's one from the time we spotted Arjun Kapoor post-workout, where he was seen wearing super expensive pyjamas. We have to admit, the gym pictures were quite entertaining for us! 7. Maniesh Paul running errands © Viral Bhayani If they have papped celebrities in their most fashionable avatar, there have been times when they have spotted in their natural element. Maniesh Paul is known for acing super relaxed silhouettes and overly chunky sneakers. Even though he is super candid in front of the camera and doesn't soak up all the attention, we actually miss scouring the sneakers he used to wear, courtesy paps clicking clear pictures. 12. With close to nine lakh active coronavirus cases across the world, the COVID-19 pandemic is not showing significant signs of slowing down any time soon. The virus is slowly spreading to new territories and adding more and more casualties to its list. At a time like this, when itâs become imperative to bring the death toll down, mankindâs only hope to get out of this alive lies in the creation of effective cures and vaccines that can neutralise the fatal coronavirus, and save millions of lives. © BCCL As the world continues to fight this invisible enemy, numerous organisations, researchers and scientists have been working tirelessly to come up with potential vaccines that can help the human race win this battle. Check out these 5 possible vaccine researches that are a silver lining for the human race right now. 1. Bill Gates Funds Setting Up Of 7 Potential Vaccine FactoriesKnown for their expertise in dealing with infectious diseases, The Gates Foundation is said to have invested huge amounts of money in setting up factories which will work to develop vaccines for coronavirus. The news came to light when The Daily Show host Trevor Noah recently released the preview clip of his upcoming episode featuring Bill Gates where the Microsoft co-founder can be heard saying, "We did fund some things to be more prepared like a vaccine effort, our early money can accelerate things.â © BCCL Gates also shared that the Foundation has picked top seven vaccine candidates and is helping them with the manufacturing. He also said, "Even though we'll end up picking at most two of them, we're going to fund factories for all seven just so we don't waste time in serially saying 'okay which vaccine works' and then building the factory.â Reportedly, Gates approved of simultaneously testing and building manufacturing units because thatâs the fastest way of developing a vaccine at this stage. 2. The Pittsburgh Coronavirus VaccineResearchers and scientists at the University of Pittsburgh recently conducted a study and tested a potential coronavirus vaccine on mice which showed a positive immune response to COVID-19. The response quantity is said to be enough to neutralize the coronavirus. The study has been published in the EBioMedicine journal which called the vaccine the PittCoVacc. © BCCL Reportedly, the fingertip-sized, sugar and protein-based 400 microneedle vaccine patch was able to create a surge of coronavirus-fighting antibodies within two weeks of delivering it. Speaking about how the vaccineâs core component was chosen, senior co-author Andrea Gambotto said, "We had previous experience on SARS-CoV in 2003 and MERS-CoV in 2014. These two viruses, which are closely related to SARS-CoV-2, teach us that a particular protein, called a spike protein, is important for inducing immunity against the virus." 3. Adenovirus Type 5 Candidate Vaccine © BCCL Recently, the World Health Organisation (WHO) shared that two candidate vaccines for COVID-19 have progressed into phase one of human clinical trials. Reportedly, the vaccine candidate is being jointly developed by CanSino Biological Inc and Beijing Institute of Biotechnology. It also needs to be noted that CanSino had earlier developed an Ebola vaccine in 2017 in partnership with the Chinese Academy of Military Medical Science's Bioengineering Institute. Apparently, this vaccine uses a Adenovirus Type 5 candidate composed of adenoviruses which âcause pneumonia and deliver potential antigens to stimulate the production of antibodies that work against the disease.â 4. Oxford University & Inovio Pharmaceutical Vaccine © BCCL As per reports, it is being said that scientists in Australia have started testing two potential coronavirus vaccines in its lab trials. The vaccines are being jointly developed by Oxford University and Inovio Pharmaceutical, and the the WHO has cleared them for animal testing. Reportedly, Australia's national science agency will decide if the vaccines work, and can be used as human vaccinations. 5. TB Vaccine As Potential COVID-19 Vaccine © BCCL Recently it was announced that scientists in Melbourne, Australia have been trying to utilise the 100-year-old tuberculosis vaccine Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) to test if it is effective against the coronavirus infection. The decision was made based on the observation that the BCG is effective in preventing fatalities in infants from a number of causes, and highly reduces the occurrence of respiratory infections. According to experts, the vaccine basically trains our immune system to recognize and respond to various bacterial, viral and parasitic infections. So clinical trials are being undertaken to ascertain if it will work against the coronavirus. View the full article

  14. Ever since news broke that COVID-19 was a legitimate threat to us, we as a society went somewhat berserk and bought tons and tons of hand sanitisers and masks. Our European brethren went one step further and stockpiled toilet paper, fearing that soon, their supermarkets would run out of some of the basic, day to day commodities. © Reuters So great is this fear and might we add, quite rightly so, that it is becoming difficult for hospitals and health workers to get their hands on surgical masks and sanitisers. In essence, people who need sanitisers and masks to keep the contagion in check, are unable to get the right tools, because of mass hysteria. © Reuters Seeing the chaos that is ensuing from all this, and the fact that we as people are rather ingenious opportunists, there have been some incidents that are simply newsworthy. First, there was the entire episode of a group of people coming together and drinking cow urine, and inhaling the smoke from burnt cow dung, in a bid to âimmuniseâ themselves from the novel coronavirus. © IANS Then there was this incident in Noida, where a factory that made counterfeit hand sanitiser and N95 masks, was busted and shut down. Needless to say, there is genuine confusion all around us. Given how we choose our own âfactsâ now, and how facts do not necessarily mean facts anymore, there are a ton of videos and photos circulating on social media and messaging apps on how to protect yourself from COVID-19. © IANS There are a number of videos on YouTube, WhatsApp, and a number of other platforms which show how we can make our own hand sanitisers, using some basic hospital supplies. Now, weâre sure that they are well-meaning people and were trying to contribute to the effort of saving human lives in their own way. However, a number of medical professionals, people who are actually qualified, would beg to differ. Here, in this video, a reporter from The Telegraph, the digital wing of the daily newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, speaks to Dr Alexander Edwards, an associate professor at the Pharmacy Research Division at the University of Reading. They discuss how, for most hand sanitisers that work on coronavirus and other viral diseases, a specific quantity of ethanol holds the key. © Most Lovely Things The three main solutions that they work with, in the video, include one where they use vodka, one with surgical spirit and one with distilled witch hazel, a type of micellar water. All the three solutions are mixed with aloe vera gel, with the micellar water, being added with a couple of tea tree oil. Dr Edwards says he wouldnât recommend any of the three solutions, given how they do not get the amount of ethanol, or any anti-viral elements right. © iStock In Dr Edwardsâ opinion, vodka or any hard liquor for that matter will have 30 to 45 per cent ethanol, which falls short of the 60 per cent concentrate that most sanitisers use. Add to that the fact that we are diluting the ethanol with aloe vera gel, means that the strength of the ethanol is further depleted, thus rendering it ineffective. © iStock The surgical spirit, with over 90 per cent of ethanol, could have worked. However, it hardens up the skin with prolonged usage, and when mixed with aloe vera gel, gets a murky colour. Furthermore, the resulting solution is very runny and wouldnât stay on the hand long enough for the ethanol to work. Not only is not prone to work, using surgical spirit may prove to be harmful, and he strongly advises against it. © iStock For the herbal solution, Dr Edwards says that he does not have a reason to believe that they will actually do anything, since there has been no study on any of the elements used in making a DIY sanitizer, saying that they have any kind of anti-viral properties. There are a number of other issues that the video does not mention, mainly, because they are very local to us. First of all, we donât want people hoarding up on surgical spirits, even if they get their hands on ones that have 70 per cent ethanol content, mainly because at this moment, we cannot have hospitals running short of any other supplies. Secondly, sanitisers and many of these cleansing products are made in a very clean, and controlled environment, which, would be rather impossible to recreate at our houses. Manufacturers also use very nuanced and highly technical methodologies to make these sanitisers, which, again isnât something that can be replicated with half baked scientific temperament. © iStock This brings us to what we actually should be doing. Dr Edwards points out that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has presented with some very solid ways that should help us contain the deadly virus. © iStock First of all, wash your hands with liquid soap thoroughly, for about 20 seconds at the minimum, when you have access to a washbasin. Secondly, maintain social distancing properly and thoroughly, step out of your houses only if you have to. And even then, try to step out during non-peak hours. In case you donât have access to washbasins, only then use a sanitiser that actually works against COVID-19. © iStock Finally, and this is significantly important, do not panic. Thereâs no need to get all worked up as if the end of the world is upon us. Having said that, taking this threat lightly and not quarantining yourself as and when required will be downright foolish. Take the necessary precautions, and keep an eye out on the WHO, CDC and IMA (Indian Medical Association) websites. View the full article
  15. With global anxiety on the rise concerning the spread of deadly coronavirus, people across the places are taking various precautionary measures. It's not surprising how many times we hear or read of the disease 'coronavirus' anymore. What started out as an extremely infectious disease spreading in the Wuhan market in China has quickly and dramatically now become a pandemic affecting a number of countries across the planet. Coronavirus has been affecting us in very real ways. Many countries have started restricting travel including countries like India, the shutting down of schools, colleges, cinema halls, gyms, and whopping rise of corporates switching to the work-from-home system. Sadly, this is all taking a toll on the global economy as well. Moreover, even the film industry has come to a halt, with most production houses postponing shoots. In fact, celebrities are also taking the necessary precautions required in safeguarding themselves. After Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's diagnosis, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife's diagnosis, it's clear how easily the virus can spread despite being cautious. Closer to home, we're seeing that a lot of celebrities are donning masks and putting on covered-up outfits. This sometimes, however, also translates into wearing masks that match their outfit. 16. As spring comes alive around us, filling our lives with blooming shades of yellows, greens, pinks, and reds, I am yet again reminded of what a blessing it is to be able to appreciate this vividness and revel in it. Itâs such a taken-for-granted privilege to be able to look forward to the festivities, celebrate it with family and friends, and just simply set aside any daily monotony for a day filled with greasy food, good company and laughter-filled, multi-hued gulaal attacks. © Mayura Balasubramanian I am lucky to have it all, and perhaps you are too. But many others are not as fortunate. Many people from marginalised communities as well as the differently-abled do not get to enjoy a similar quality of life. They are shunned and often pushed to a corner, kept away to make othersâ life easier. But one woman wouldnât have any of it, and decided to take it upon herself to change their lives for the better. Bengaluru-based Mayura Balasubramanian founded an NGO âCraftizenâ with the aim of adding more value to these peopleâs lives. A social venture, Craftizen works with artisan groups, rural women and differently-abled from across the country to build means of independent sustenance. © Mayura Balasubramanian To enable the same, she kickstarted an innovative initiative called the Green Skilling program which helps generate livelihoods for close to 200 persons with intellectual disabilities by making natural, flower-based Holi colours, rangoli powders, sand art kits and much more. All About The âGreen Skillingâ ProgramFor the program, Craftizen collects flowers that have been offered at temples or the ones which have been used in events such as weddings. The collected flowers are brought in and recycled by âPetalistsâ or people with intellectual disabilities who lovingly recycle the flowers to convert them into a unique range of products. © Mayura Balasubramanian Not only does this initiative generate livelihood, it also prevents hundreds of kilograms of flowers from clogging landfills and instead gives us eco-friendly, natural colours to put to various use. Talking about the inspiration behind the program, Mayura told MensXP, âWhile our primary objective is to enable sustainable livelihoods for marginalized communities through craft based skills, we wanted to add one more impact layer of being eco-friendly by converting discards into useful products and thatâs how the term âGreen Skillingâ was coined.â © Mayura Balasubramanian She further adds, âTo date, 900 beneficiaries from marginalised sections including persons with intellectual disability and low-income women who have no other sustainable sources of income have been trained and receive ongoing livelihood support.â Itâs An Environmental Blessing In DisguiseThere is more to the Green Skilling program that meets the eye. Mayura shares that apart from saving over 10 tonnes of flowers from ending up in landfills, the initiative also helps save three times the water compared to conventional colours. Combined with their zero plastic packaging, the final product is 100 percent eco-friendly. © Mayura Balasubramanian Being natural, these colours wash off easily and require one-third the water to clean-up post celebrations compared to regular colours. So basically these handmade colours are non-toxic, safe and skin-friendly and suitable for all. Improving The Quality Of Life For Differently-AbledCraftizen, along with other like-minded NGOs and Institutes, identifies and rehabilitates persons with intellectual disabilities by providing them with relevant training and guidance in livelihood. Mayura adds that, âWhether a person has mild, moderate or severe level of disability, they can be engaged in this program since the task can be suited to their ability. Furthermore, we have found and documented that there is therapeutic and cognitive benefit to our Petalists of working with flowers including improved self confidence, ability to work in teams and colour recognition.â © Mayura Balasubramanian That is not all. With the variety of opportunities under the program, Mayura has ensured that the marginalised and the differently-abled can generate an income throughout the year. So apart from making Holi and rangoli colours, they are also trained in other techniques âto convert paper-dust (collected from cardboard mills) into home accessories and corporate gifts, fabric leftovers into travel kits and pouches, silk thread discards into jewellery and newspapers and magazines into pens,â highlights Mayura. The Larger Impact For A Better Tomorrow © Mayura Balasubramanian Craftizen and the Green Skilling program does more than providing its beneficiaries with a source of income. Sharing her insights, Mayura says, âWhen a person earns an income, they are no longer just going to a day-care to be looked after, they are going to their place of work and this elevates their self worth and also gain respect from their own family members. All of this leads to psychotherapeutic rehabilitation which is important for mental and physical well-being.â © Mayura Balasubramanian In a paper published in the Journal of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Mental Health in May 2019 by NIMHANS, Asiaâs largest centre for mental health, and Craftizen, the therapeutic and cognitive benefits of the Green Skilling program in psychotherapeutic rehabilitation was documented and made available to the public. So hereâs to a celebration of these precious individuals who are adding colours to thousands of lives, thanks to the vision of one woman who wouldnât settle. View the full article

  18. Ever since 4th March, medical authorities in the capital have scrambled to locate and isolate incoming Coronavirus victims - a hunt that began with a 45-year old man from Mayur Vihar, who gave the virus a ride all the way from Italy to Vienna and finally, India. With the number of cases sharply rising from six to 31 within a week, Indian authorities have little time to waste. As for securing the capital, two unique governmental outfits - the âinfectious disease control cellâ and the district task force - have united to take on the mammoth task of screening through thousands of potential victims. According to a Hindustan Times report, a staggering 9,000 calls are made every day - two to each person on the coronavirus hitlist, checking whether or not the telltale signs and symptoms of the disease have surfaced. Delhi Secretariat Meetings © Reuters Since patient zero hit Delhi, a series of meetings have been taking place on the ninth floor of the Delhi secretariat and a four-room section of a Delhi-government office in Laxmi Nagar. The goal of these meetings is straightforward yet difficult - developing a plan to control and safeguard Delhiâs population against the virus. Fortunately, the meetings have proceeded smoothly and immediate action has been taken since. âIn fact, the minutes of all the meetings were prepared on the very same day and circulated. It has all the information on what the state and the district level task force needs to do,â said an official from the health department to HT. Aam Aadmi Partyâs Response © Reuters As leader of the state-level task force designated with controlling the virusâ spread, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal turned his attention away from the cityâs ongoing crisis with violent hate crimes, and focused on the medical matter at hand. The minister seemed positive at the resulting press conference, although it was clear that the screening tests and scale of population would prove to be a serious challenge. âEven those who did not show any symptoms during the screening at the airport are being tracked since in many cases it has been seen that the signs of the virus start showing in 14 days or more. So, those on the lists are under surveillance,â chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday after presiding over the first state task force meeting. Wiping The Virusâ Tracks Clean © Reuters Since the screenings began in mid-January, over 1.3 lakh people have been screened at the Delhi airport. The officials have been working overtime to look for the people who came in contact with those diagnosed with Covid-19 before they were sent to the isolation facility at Safdarjung hospital - in the case of patient zero, this list of potential infected ramped up to 92 individuals. With only 14 in Delhi and the rest scattered across the country, the authorities certainly have their work cut out for them. Meanwhile, apart from contact-tracing and checking with the asymptomatic passengers, the district level task force has also been involved in sanitising places visited by suspected coronavirus victims. This is done by wiping all surfaces with a 1% hypochlorite solution - more commonly known as bleach solution. âThere are proper guidelines for mopping and cleaning of various surfaces. Since the people tested positive, we have sanitised all the hotels that they were in and also informed them about infection-control measures. We have sensitised our own staff members,â said a government official on condition of anonymity. View the full article

It was a prototype developed by Nintendo and Sony but never saw the light of the day as Nintendo betrayed the Japanese company and opted to use a Phillips CD Drive on the base for the Super Nintendo. It was quite a fiasco as Sony announced their partnership, Nintendo announced plans to bring a CD Drive with Phillips the very next day. © Nintendo/Sony There arenât many prototypes of the Nintendo Playstation out there and this particular one sold for $360,000 (INR 2,66,38,920.00) at auction. Thereâs a good chance that this is the only unit in existence as only 20 were made. It attracted around 57 bids that ranged from $15,000 to $45,000 before reaching the magic number of $360,000. Amongst the people who placed a bid on the console was Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey, who sold Oculus to Facebook for $2.3 billion. âI am currently the highest bidder on this,â he tweeted on Feb. 13. âWho are the other nutters who keep bidding against me?â © Twitter We donât know who won the auction as the bidder has asked to remain anonymous. However, the person now owns one of the rarest gaming consoles on earth from the early 1990s. The console is rumoured to play both SNES cartridges and CD-ROM games, however no games were launched that worked on the console. Having said that, the console does work as it was tested by the auctioneers with a SNES Mortal Kombat cartridge and the disc drive can also play audio CDs. The Nintendo PlayStation was announced in 1991 at CES, however the partnership fell through as Nintendo was concerned that Sony had been given too much control over the systemâs software licensing. 20. AirDrop lets users transfer files amongst two iPhone users or iPhone and MacBook users. It is an exclusive feature of iOS and at the moment and no Android smartphone has been able to effectively replicate it. But that may change soon as Samsung is making a similar feature for their smartphones. According to XDA Developersâ source, a new feature called âQuick Shareâ was spotted and will debut alongside the upcoming Galaxy S20 smartphones. It will work similarly to AirDrop i.e. it will not use cellular or Bluetooth to transfer files. Instead, it will use Bluetooth to create a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi network between connected devices. XDA was able to access the interface of the application and it says that within the app, users can locate nearby Galaxy devices to transfer files. This also suggests that the feature may be exclusive to Galaxy smartphones. © XDA Developers Quick Share will also have other options for users such as choosing whom you can receive files from i.e. from everyone or from your contacts. 21. In 2019, the Kerala government had announced that it'll make the entire state, especially its tourist destinations, disabled-friendly by 2021. A program started by Kerala's tourism's Barrier-Free Tourism Project has now received global recognition as the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) made a special mention about Kerala for the Emerging Global Destination in the Accessible Destination Awards 2019. © Twitter Well, the special mention was in place for Kerala being the first to work as per the UNWTO guidelines for making tourist destinations disabled-friendly and we surely do need these places in numbers, across the country. The recognition though was for the implementation of the project in Thrissur, which is India's first disabled-friendly destination to win the honour. The award is given by the World Tourism Organization and ONCE Foundation that works for people with disabilities. The awards at the Spanish capital were given away as part of FITUR Trade Fair, which is a meeting point for tourism professionals the world over and is the second-biggest global gathering of travel and tourism professionals. In March last year, Kerala introduced the barrier-free project in order to make at least 120 destinations within the state disabled-friendly. In October, Kerala Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran had said that 98 destinations out of the 120 tourist spots across the state which were identified for the first phase have already been made completely disabled-friendly. Thrissur was amongst the first only because it's the cultural capital of Kerala, one of the first few destinations in the state, to create the complete infrastructure in all its destinations like Azhikode and Snehatheeram, the hill destination of Vilangankunnu and the scenic dams in Poomala and Vazhani. © Twitter The upcoming project include Chavakkad Beach, Peechi and Thumboormuzhi. The facilities include ramps, accessible toilets, lactation rooms, Braille pamphlets, signage, touch-screen kiosks, audio and sign aids, wheelchairs and walking aids. They have been made available in major tourist destinations in the district. Hailing the achievement, Kerala Tourism Minister Shri Kadakampally Surendran said, âWe deserve this honour. It will enhance Keralaâs reputation as a global tourist destination.â While Kerala tourism is working towards making all its tourist destinations travel friendly for disabled people, we only hope more states in India come forward and implement progressive and infrastructural and viable structures for the differently-abled. This is a great project initiated by Kerala and we hope by 2021 the entire state caters to disabled people through its tourism. View the full article
  22. It's hard to remember the moment when the words following jana gana mana… became second nature to me. Was it the preparatory school teacher who worked her magic and helped me commit the entire composition to memory when I couldn't even remember all the letters in my full name? Or was it even earlier than that, when Ma would sing it aloud at home and urge me to repeat the song of the nation after her? © BBC For most of us, recollecting the exact moment when our mind gave way to the national anthem verbatim, is a rather difficult one. But you see, that's how it's been. It was the mind that caught onto the words, while the heart was kept out of the loop from the start. We know our rashtriya gaan by heart, but is our heart in it? © Twitter Today, nobody needs to be told twice that we ought to stand up for the national anthem, that there are proper times and places for one to play/sing it, that the national anthem demands a certain kind of respect and that most people expect fellow Indians to show that respect, especially when in public. The national anthem is a big deal and here's why. A national anthem is the song of the people. Often soaked in patriotic fervour, the anthem is representative of a country's history, culture, tradition, and beliefs. Therefore, it becomes an emblem of national identity and is held dear by citizens and the government alike. © Rediff The national anthem is so powerful that it can bring an entire nation together with one song, reminding them of their country's glory and heritage. The anthem is used to evoke pride and feelings of belongingness and unity when sung by one and all, regardless of their caste, creed or gender. But there is more. © YouTube What makes India and our national anthem all the more invaluable is the fact that the subcontinent is known for its diversity; be it ethnic, religious, linguistic or even cultural. For ages, India has shown the world how a hundred contradictions can exist peacefully together, living and building a greater nation in harmony. India's national anthem literally spells it all out. Here is what our national anthem means, literally. You are the ruler of the minds of all people, Dispenser of India's destiny. Your name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat and Maratha, Of the Dravida and Odisha and Bengal; It echoes in the hills of Vindhya and the Himalayas, Mingles in the music of Ganga and Yamuna and is chanted by The waves of the Indian sea. They pray for your blessings and sing your praise. The saving of all people waits in your hand, You are the dispenser of India's destiny. Victory, victory, victory to you. It's a hymn to India, the pride and joy of every individual who lives on its land, breathes its free air and collectively works to bring more glory to its name. There is no distinction between those who call India their motherland, their homeland, their home. © Twitter Perhaps understanding the true essence of our anthem will remind us to put all else beyond our limited scope of worldview and come together to celebrate our country's greatest strength - we are all for this country, this country is for us all. 23. If there's one thing that we can't stop admiring of late, it is Varun Dhawan's badass looks that he is sporting for every Street Dancer 3D promotion. He is experimenting with super playful ensembles and every time he wears something OTT, he instantly has our attention. © Viral Bhayani Since his upcoming movie is based on the multifarious colours of dance, even his recent appearance resembled the same. He is truly unrecognisable with the Roman hairstyle and electric blue ensemble. Even though the look instantly took us back to the 80s, his boots, however, are so Dhinchak that it made our jaws drop! © Viral Bhayani Varun is wearing boots by Nomenklatura Studio. This style is from runway Spring/Summer 2020 which was inspired by the films Scarface and Penelope Spheeris' The Decline Of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years. © Hypebeast The collection showcases an array of pieces in both traditional and daring silhouettes. The Gangster aesthetics have been interpreted on this pair and has been inspired by 80's Glam Rock. © Viral Bhayani Speaking of Varun's outfit, he turned heads with his electric blue leather jacket with a printed shirt and black pants. The combination with its contemporary colours, extravagant fabric and silhouette makes it quite unconventional and totally a worthy look for Varun's upcoming movie, Street Dancer 3D. © Viral Bhayani All in all, we love his attempt to bring back the disco days and this is what we call, Dhinchak. Keep it up, Varun! View the full article
