  1. The ICC World Cup 2019 match up between India and Pakistan has been nothing short of brilliant, well at least for the Indian fans, thanks to the power-packed innings played by the Indian vice-captain, Rohit Sharma and the skipper himself, Virat Kohli. While Rohit 'The Hitman' Sharma helped the Indian batting order with a great start as he scored the fastest century of his career (85 balls), it was Virat Kohli that quickly became the topic of hilarious rants on social media and that too because of no fault of his! WHAT AN INNINGS! India opener Rohit Sharma brings up his century off just 85 balls. How many more can he add to his tally from here? #TeamIndia | #CWC19 pic.twitter.com/j1z8OSoCf4 — ICC (@ICC) June 16, 2019 After Sharma got dismissed off a dolly at the hands of Hasan Ali, Virat Kohli turned the notch up on his game and began taking quick singles and doubles between the balls with Hardik Pandya by his side. The quick runs were good enough to visibly bother Sarfaraz Ahmed and his side. #ViratKohli scores his 11,000th ODI run! He reaches the landmark in 54 fewer innings than anyone else ð pic.twitter.com/mebDOLJESs — Cricket World Cup (@cricketworldcup) June 16, 2019 Having said that, the speed at which Kohli was running between the wickets impressed cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar. During one such single, it was calculated that the Kohli ran at the speed of 25 kmph between the creases and Manjrekar instantly compared the Delhi-born to the greatest sprinter of all-time, Usain Bolt, who, by the way, can reach up to the speed of 37 kmph. Manjrekar further credited the Indian cricketer of running with such velocity despite having so much of extra weight of the pads and other protective gear along with the bat in his hands. Albeit, Kohli's speed and athleticism is exceptional and second to none, however, this comparison caused a rift on Twitter with even the Indian fans of the cricketer begging the commentator to stop: Did he just compare Kohli to Bolt ð©ð©ð©ð©ð©ð© — NA (@nmase97) June 16, 2019 Sanjay Bihari Majnu: Virat Kohli has top speed of 25km. We need to compare him with Usain Bolt. Bihari Majnu "Van Dijk" has top speed of 34km. Compare Kohli with him. Then continue your irritating commentary. & pls for god sake stop copying Nasser Hussain's words. Indian Idiot — Musharaf Nabi (@MusharafNabi95) June 16, 2019 @sanjaymanjrekar are you comparing Usain Bolt running with Kohli...?!really...?!wats your avg IQ levelð¤ð¤ — lokam_godave_na_godava (@NaGodave) June 16, 2019 Sanjay Manjrekar: "Virat Kohli's top speed is 25kmph. 2. Late last night when passengers travelling on the Goa-Mumbai Air India flight found themselves stranded in Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, due to a several-hour delay in their flight take-off, they were left distressed and fuming. The passengers began raising slogans within the airport premises after a four-hour delay. At this point, a Goa Forward Party office-bearer Ketan Bhatikar, who was one of the passengers on the delayed flight, decided to reach out to Goa CM Pramod Sawant and seek his intervention in the matter. Stranded at #Mumbai's #ChhatrapatiShivaji airport late on June 13 night for several hours, protesting passengers of an #AirIndia Bombay to Goa flight were offered free meal from an airport restaurant at the instance of Goa CM #PramodSawant, a passenger said. Photo: IANS pic.twitter.com/pf6wwG1VhR — IANS Tweets (@ians_india) June 14, 2019 Upon narrating their troubles, Sawant didn't only intervene but also gave a pleasant surprise to all the hassled passengers. The CM arranged food for all the passengers from Kebab Grill restaurant, and also made sure that the flight took off ASAP. What makes this all the more special is the fact that Sawant was not even in Goa at that point. He managed to get all this done sitting in the national capital where he was on a work trip. Several passengers including Goans thanked Chief Minister @DrPramodPSawant for helping arrange flight and food, the passengers were stranded at Mumbai Airport on Thursday night due to lethargy of Air India and were helped by CM Pramod Sawant. pic.twitter.com/QRTPCRONBX — PrimeTVGoa (@PrimeTVGoa) June 14, 2019 "I tried calling Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who answered my phone within two rings at 1.13 am. He called me back five times, arranged food for all passengers at Indian Kebab Grill, and exactly at 1.27 am, he told me that the flight was ready to take-off in 30 minutes. We finally reached Goa at around 3.30 am," Bhatikar informed IANS. That was a very kind and thoughtful gesture on the Goa CM's part and shows other ministers the best way of holding offices and serving people in the truest sense.
  3. After being the dominating force of the National Basketball League (NBA) for more than four years, it seems as if the reign of the Golden State Warriors has finally come to an end at the hands of one of the best two-way players of the league in Kawhi Leonard and a feisty Toronto Raptors team who not only made their first appearance in the NBA Finals this season but also won their maiden title along with it. YOUR 2019 @NBA CHAMPS! #WeTheNorth pic.twitter.com/3mNvchZqzT — Toronto Raptors (@Raptors) June 14, 2019 Albeit the Warriors were cursed with extremely unfortunate injuries, taking out some of their best players in Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson at the worst moments possible but this should not take away from the fact that a team like the Raptors who were always considered to be 'good but not good enough', defeated some of the most talented rosters in the league such as the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwuakke Bucks during the playoffs series and the Warriors in the NBA Finals. While role-players like Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam showed up big time, especially in crunch time, when they were needed the most, the contributions of Kawhi Leonard demand a special mention. Board man gets champagne! pic.twitter.com/YvlnleQOW9 — Toronto Raptors (@Raptors) June 14, 2019 Traded to the Canadian squad less than a year ago, that too during the time he was down and away with a severe ankle injury, Leonard was not only able to understand how the team functioned but also became their beacon of hope, the leader they desperately needed to make it to the Finals and win it all. After facing toxic levels of criticism from the San Antonio Spurs fans for not representing the city on the court for an entire year, 'The Klaw' winning the title and the 2019 'NBA Finals Most Valuable Player' award was probably the best way for him to redeem himself and consolidate his name as one of the best athletes the league and the basketball world has ever seen. KAWHI LEONARD 2X FINALS MVP! #WeTheNorth pic.twitter.com/dabEfjSRsb — Toronto Raptors (@Raptors) June 14, 2019 This is also not for the first time Leonard has stopped a dynasty from winning three consecutive championship titles or as they say a 3peat. Winning his very first NBA title in 2014 against the powerful Miami Heat which consisted of star players like Dwyane Wade, Chrish Bosh and Lebron James, all in their prime, Leonard won his first NBA Finals MVP back then. Now again, heading into the 2019 Finals Leonard shocked the Warriors and the world when he led his side to winning all three games in the Warriors' homecourt and sealing the deal with a couple of free throws in the final moments of Game 6 in Oakland. Nobody could have written the narrative of the Toronto Raptors' first title any better than this.
  4. Let's face it, no one looks as charming as Jim Sarbh or Milind Soman with grey hair. Everyone freaks out when they see a few strands of grey hair for the first time on their head, no matter what the age. People often associate greying hair with age. So, naturally, for most men and women in their twenties, spotting a bit of grey hair on their heads makes their world come crashing down on them. Now, it is absolutely normal for anybody to have one or two strands of grey hair. However, if you spot a bunch of them, chances are that there's something wrong. If you are one of the many people who have fallen victim to this modern-day vice, read on to find out how do you stop premature ageing: 1. Eat Right © Getty Images You've got to have a balanced diet, preferably one that has some key nutrients in abundance. Vitamins B12 and C are key for great scalp health and really goes a long way to stop premature greying. 2. Sleep Well © Getty Images No matter what you do, you simply cannot avoid living a stressful lifestyle. The only alternative that remains is to get proper rest. We suggest following a set sleeping pattern, one that has at least 6-7 hours of sleep. 3. Workout © Getty Images If you get the time to hit the gym regularly, kudos to your dedication and time management skills. However, since it is nearly impossible for the rest of us to do so, it is ideal if you workout anywhere and anytime you get a chance. Try taking the stairs instead of the escalator. Or walk instead of taking a rickshaw for a short distance to the nearby market. 4. Quit Smoking © Getty Images Nearly all your health problems can be linked to this one. We know how hard can it be to really kick the butt, but trust us when we say this, that it is completely worth it. Smoking causes some really drastic hormonal changes that are really detrimental for your hair. Apart from greying hair, it can also cause dry and itchy scalp, or worse, premature hair fall. 5. Oil Your Hair © Getty Images We all love a good oil massage, especially when our mom used to do it for us with all that zeal and passion. Unfortunately, most of us don't have that luxury anymore, thanks to our hectic schedules and super busy lifestyles. So, it helps if you think of massaging your hair more as a necessity than an option. And let's not forget, how relaxing and rejuvenating a good hair massage feels like. 6. Avoid Harsh Hair Products © Getty Images You really need to be cautious when you are choosing a shampoo. Not only there are chances that your current shampoo, as well as conditioner, does not actually suit you, they may be really harsh for your scalp and hair. Try sampling a few options before finally settling for one. Or, consult a dermatologist to find out what works for you.
  5. Doordarshan - what is the first thing that comes to your mind as soon as you hear that one word? Out of nowhere, the signature tune of India's first television provider begins to play out, and the iconic 'eye' logo, always visible to the right of the screen, begins to materialise in our mind's eye. The kind of nostalgia the combination of these two simple elements of the channel are capable of inducing is something every millennial will be able to relate to. However, Doordarshan and its over half a century-old logo is now trying to salvage its withering spirit, by reinventing and revamping itself. To keep up with the demands of the changing times, and establish a strong youth connect, Prasar Bharati had announced a 'logo design contest' in 2017. They received close to 10,000 entries for the same, out of which five logos have been shortlisted. It will be good to recall that the iconic “eye” logo of Doordarshan was designed by Devashis Bhattacharyya and appeared on television screens for the very first time on April 1, 1976. As expected, the channel, as well as its logo, enjoys a lot of loyalty. © Twitter So when Prasar Bharati said in a statement that, "The new logo while recalling the strong nostalgia associated with the DD brand, should reflect the aspirations of new India," and now announced the shortlisted designs, they have received a lot of backlash from people on Twitter. Doordarshan Logo Contest - Here are the top 5 logo designs selected out of more than 10,000 entries. pic.twitter.com/qV8Ni2Zkj8 — Prasar Bharati (@prasarbharati) May 20, 2019 People still think the original logo is the 'best' and we agree. Fire the selection committee . This is worse than clipart! — Anusha Yadav (@anushayadav) May 21, 2019 People can't believe these really are the only “best” ones. Sach batao kitne entries aaye the? Kyunki apne desh ka talent pool itna kharab nahi ho sakta. — Krishna (@Atheist_Krishna) May 21, 2019 Some people are even offended. Any junior artist in our graphic set up would have done better. Hate this competition business. Which self respecting professional will submit for a competition? Which is why this is the outcome. — | nisheeth sharan | (@nisheethsharan) May 21, 2019 People had better expectations. i guess the designer wants to seal the final nail in DD's coffin! Please pay a good designer and get the job done! All the logos were stolen from internet! — Giridhar (@cgiridhar) May 21, 2019 We can totally see where all the angst and disappointment is coming from. But what are your thoughts on this?
  6. Having a six-pack is something that every guy aspires when it comes to having a good physique. If you are reading this article, it is highly possible that even you have searched something like this on the internet: 'How to lose belly fat?' 'How to get six-pack abs?' 'Easy way to build six-pack abs?' The search results that you may have gotten would be of fat burning drinks or fat loss exercises or belly fat burning techniques. Like everyone, you do those things and the end result is... nothing! © Getty Images It is high time you get it into your brain that there is no magical fix that can help you get a six-pack in a week. It needs hard work and dedication. Start with these basic steps: 1. Go On A Diet Everyone has abs, as it is the part of human physiology. The only reason people are not able to see their abs are for two reasons: a. They have a lot of body fat covering it b. They do not have developed abdominal muscles Let's cover the first part here. The reality is that you need to be on a diet to bring your body fat percentage down. At the same time, you would want to preserve the muscle mass you already have. To calculate the number of calories you need to eat for fat loss, simply multiply your body weight in pounds with 13. To preserve your muscle, have one gram of protein per pound of your body weight. If you weigh 160 lbs., this would mean: a. Calories = 160x13 = ~2100 calories b. Protein = 160 grams 2. Do Weight Training You need to lift weights to hold on to your muscle when you lose fat. © Getty Images Make sure that you are doing compound exercises aka exercises that engage your core, and are moving more than one muscle group at a time so that you build your core. You can also include direct ab training with and without abs to build them further ahead. 3. Lose Around 0.5 To 1% Of Your Body Weight Every Week You will definitely get started on a diet once you plug in those numbers from step #1 and start losing weight. Then, there will be two questions: a. How much weight to lose? b. How fast to lose it? To reveal a six-pack, you need to have around 10 to 12% body fat. So, until you reach that number, you will have to dig deep. To find your body fat number, you can use a lot of tools like online calculators or Inbody machines. Ideally, you should be losing around 0.5 to 1% of your body weight every week. If things are faster than this, you could eat some extra calories. If you are comfortable with it, you can pick up the pace a bit. If things have slowed down, you can either calculate the numbers again on your new body weight or you can simply drop 100-150 calories and things should pick up. So, go do the work and follow a plan instead of finding the next quick-fix for six-pack abs. 7. Do you keep missing gym sessions due to lack of motivation? Do you find lame excuses to destroy your diet and screw your own fitness progress? Here, I am going to talk a little bit about human psychology and how you can kick the crutches of motivation and actually achieve the results you are looking for. Motivation is of two kinds: 1. Extrinsic Motivation - Motivation to act in a certain way due to external rewards such as money, fame, marks, and praise. E.g. – Losing fat so you can impress the girl that you like. 2. Intrinsic Motivation - Motivation to act in a certain way due to internal reasons. E.g. – Losing fat because you want to be fit and live longer. © Getty Images If you're losing fat because someone else wants it, you will lose motivation and go off-track soon. Apparently, our goal should be to shift our focus from Extrinsic Motivation to Intrinsic Motivation over time. This will give meaning to your goal! Okay, you get it now. But how to keep that motivation up, throughout? Let me tell you – even the topmost athletes lose motivation to stick to their Nutrition & Workout Plan sometimes. They're humans too. So what keeps them on the track? These things: 1. Structured Nutrition & Workout Plans: If you have a structured Nutrition & Workout plan outlined and customized according to your lifestyle, the chances of you going off-track reduce 10x. Do you know why? Because you look forward to the exercises and meals planned for the day. This makes you stick to the plan. 2. Meal Preparation For The Week: In continuation of the previous point, the preparation of the majority of the meals of the week will make you stick to the routine and minimize decision fatigue. © Getty Images 3. Fitness As A Lifestyle: Make fitness, your workouts and eating accordingly, a part of your lifestyle. All of this should never be a burden to you. Instead, all of this should add meaning to your life. 4. Flexible & Realistic Plans: If your plans are flexible, realistic and don't require you to eat salads all day, the chances of you to stick to your routine and keeping the motivated increase to a new level. You should indulge in your favourite foods moderately, whenever you want to. Summary – Stop waiting for Motivation to come and kiss your feet. Instead, create a routine that you can stick to and be disciplined. 8. Taking steroids to make your physique look a certain way has become as common as sipping on BCAAs in the gym today. Youngsters have started using it as a supplement and have normalized it beyond stupidity. A lot of gym trainers openly promote and sell these steroids to young kids to make a quick buck. Not only do they understand the downsides, but they also do not have the medical background or a degree to be recommending this. © Getty Images Before digging into fools who advise this, let me give you a brief on steroids. What Are Steroids? The definition of steroids is man-made oil testosterone, the male hormone. They integrate protein and help promote muscle growth. Types of steroids include anabolic and growth hormones. The definition of an anabolic steroid is, "Any drug or harmful substance, chemically and pharmacologically related to testosterone (other than estrogens, progestin, and corticosteroids) that supports muscle growth, burns fat, any drug or hormonal material that stimulates the endogenous result of steroids in the human body which acts in the same manner". Now Let's Check The Downsides Of Using Steroids: - Your heart health, kidney health, and liver health can go for a toss. - Your natural sperm production may get shut forever. - You can go bald. - You can develop breasts. - You will get acne. - The list can go on... Steroids can also affect you psychologically, as they can push you towards a state of depression, aggression, and can make you very hostile. Some bodybuilders and users are so aggressive that they have to use tranquillizes when not competing so they keep themselves calm and cool. People who advise you to take steroids are alarmingly not educated in this field. Who are they? 1) Bodybuilders: A lot of bodybuilders are not experts in the science of exercise and nutrition. They have coaches and they follow what's on their plans. Their knowledge is absurd and certain pieces of advice from them can harm you and aren't sustainable. © Getty Images Here are some gems of advice coming from them which do not make any sense: 1) Eat 6-7 meals: Well you don't have to eat 6-7 meals, because it's all about net calories. You can eat 4 meals per day and still gain muscle. 2) Train single muscle per day: Well, to grow muscle and recover you can train your all muscles 2x/week because our muscles recover within 24-72 hrs. You can put quality work for each session. 3) Eat a ton of protein to grow muscle: Well you don't have to consume a ton of protein. Muscle grows if you consume 1.8g-2.0g/kg/day. What actually is helping these bodybuilders build muscle? ANABOLIC STEROIDS. 2) Gym Trainers: Most gym trainers are a pain in the ass, as they will sell you literally anything just to pull money from your pocket. For them, money matters and why? Because through your money they can buy their steroids. It's like a toxic business circle. Let's understand a few facts: 1) You can build a good physique without taking steroids. As you read the disadvantages it can really harm you in many ways. 2) You are not a professional bodybuilding athlete and your earnings do not depend on it. 3) The steroid lifestyle is not sustainable cannot be done on a regular basis by many of you. 4) You need a huge amount of money in your bank account, to deal with regular checkups and various other requirements. 5) You will lose your gained muscles as soon as you come off steroids. Being natural will help you to keep those muscular gains forever. If your goal is to really look good with your shirt off, do this instead: 1) Proper customized nutrition which supports you to lose fat and build muscle. 2) A training plan which supports you to lift heavy and do more overall work overtime aka Progressive overload and high volume. 3) Manage training fatigue by taking some light week sessions and managing life stress. 4) Sleep 7-8+hrs daily to recover well so that you can build muscle. 5) Be consistent and have patience. It takes time to build a good physique. 9. There hasn't been a crazy PUBG Mobile news about people getting arrested, or someone losing their life playing the game in a long time. Yes, we thought the PUBG Mobile addiction storm had settled, until we heard the news about this crazy woman who's now seeking a divorce from her husband. Why, you ask? Well, it looks like he attempted to stop her from playing the game. As bizarre as it sounds, we hate to admit that it's a real thing. A woman in the UAE has sought a divorce from her husband over a battle royale game. Welcome to 2019? According to Gulf News, the director of the social center at Ajman Police, Captain Wafa Khalil Al Hosani told that they recently received this case where a woman in her 20s wanted to divorce her husband over not being allowed to play PUBG Mobile. Apparently, the husband noticed his wife's increasing addiction to the game. He then decided to stop her from playing it so she could focus on the family. The woman, according to the captain, justified her demand for divorce by saying that she was being deprived of her right to choose her means of entertainment. She said, “she derived pleasure and comfort from the game”. © Tencent She also noted that her game timings were well under limits, and she had disabled the chat option to stay away from strangers during the games. The man, however, maintained his stand and noted said he wasn't trying to deprive her of anything. He just wanted to take the necessary measures and keep the family together. He clearly didn't see the divorce coming, did he?
  10. With the rise in the popular concept of looking ripped, the demand for fitness professionals has also increased ten folds. This has created a unique problem where every Tom, Dick and Harry who has been to the gym for 6 months and stuck needles in his veins to look good, wants to portray himself as a fitness professional to earn a quick buck. A particular profession in the fitness industry that has seen a rise in pretenders masquerading as professionals is personal training. This makes it very difficult for a novice to choose a good personal trainer. © Unsplash There is a common misconception about what makes a good personal trainer: The more ripped the trainer, the more knowledge they possess! It's quite common for people to end up believing that the best-looking people on the gym floor or social media are the most knowledgeable/qualified when it comes to training and nutrition. Don't get me wrong, sometimes the most ripped person can be the most knowledgeable one too, but in most cases, they're not. Think about it, was Ramakant Achrakar a better batsman than Sachin Tendulkar? But it is a well-established fact that he was instrumental in the development of arguably the best batsman ever. © ICC Many players who are very good at their game turn out to be really bad when it comes to coaching and some who might not even play, turn out to be really good coaches, Jose Mourinho being the prime example here. Good coaches are good because they understand the art and science of coaching and communicate in a way that their students/athletes can use to their benefit. The same thing can be said for trainers and coaches. Another aspect to consider here is that the fittest and leanest people are not fit and lean because they have the most knowledge and know how when it comes to fitness and nutrition. © Unsplash They are that way because they live, breathe, eat and shit bodybuilding and fitness. They have created, designed and organised their lives around going to the gym, meal prepping and rest and recovery. So, if you are looking for inspiration and motivation, they are the best resources you can go to but if you looking to fit fitness into your lifestyle and not fit your lifestyle around fitness, they are not what you should be looking for, as they're often not so great to rely on for the intellectual aspects of training. For example, a personal trainer who has put in time and effort to learn the principles of biomechanics, physiology and has gone through the research on individualizing your training program according to your lifestyle, needs and preferences, will always have an upper hand on someone who has just been to the gym and built his own physique. Always consider that someone who spends most of their time in the gym training or cooking for themselves will always have less time to spend on learning the technical and tactical aspects of programming necessary to make that person qualified to provide reliable advice and information to other people. © Unsplash Long story short, these are the qualities that you should be looking for the next time you look for a personal trainer: 1. Check whether the trainer has been certified from a reputed institution or not. 2. Check whether the trainer assesses you and then plans your training schedule or he plans to directly put you on a cookie cutter program. 3. Check the level of professionalism your trainer brings to the table in the beginning and look for qualities such as punctuality, patience and communication skills. 11. If you think this is another post that is going to give you a 'not-my-fault' card and blame carbs, hormones, sugar, junk, insulin, etc. for you being overweight, pay twice the amount of attention. Let me first put out the most important fact on the table. Who do you think is responsible for you being fat? YOU. Nothing and no one else. So firstly, stop with the blame game. You may still be thinking that "no, it is the hormones. I eat healthy all the time. How can it be?" Read through and you will realize how it is still you. The very basic of weight loss or weight gain is calorie balance. Eat more and expend less, you gain weight. Eat less and expend more, you lose weight. As simple as that. So the ONLY rule to lose weight is to burn more calories and eat fewer calories. Simply put, 'Eat less move more.' So, how do you figure that you are getting fat even if though you are eating healthy? 1. You Indulge In Mindless Eating Humans have evolved with survival instincts and this survival has one main food instinct which says 'see food, eat food.' I am not lying. You can try this experiment yourself. In your working space, fill a bowl up with chocolates and keep it someplace where people often visit, ideally by the printer or the water dispenser. © Unsplash Now check the same bowl towards the end of the day. There is a good chance that there would be little to no chocolates in there. Then, ask your co-workers casually what have they eaten all day. Almost nobody will mention chocolates on that list. Not that they want to lie to you, their brain simply does not register the food they eat subconsciously. The same translates to portion sizes and eating while not paying attention. Look at the computer screen or TV while eating and you might as well finish off an entire pizza, as your brain does not respond to the fullness signal as your attention is elsewhere. 2. Under-Reporting & Over-Estimation There is research which shows that people who keep food journals are terrible at reporting their food intakes and even worse at estimating their energy expenditure. © Unsplash A 1992 study showed that people under-reported food intake by 47% and over-reported energy expenditure by 51%. Considering that you eat as per the normal food guidelines and do around an hour of activity per day, your intake would come to around 2200 kcals and expenditure would be 400 kcals. But as per the study, the same example above meant people reported that they ate around 1200 kcals and had an expenditure of around 800 kcals. That is a huge margin of error and now you can see where you might be going wrong too. 3. Cheat Days Do Not Count This is usually the norm that even though you may be eating well or mindfully during the week, every weekend ends up being a deserved cheat day. © Unsplash Firstly, if you are dieting in the first place and you are above the normal range of body fat%, i.e. 10 to 15%, nothing about your cheat day is 'deserved'. And more often than not, these unaccounted cheat days are a shit ton of calories down your throat that needs to be stored somewhere. They are not going to magically disappear into thin air. So, the next time you think that it is the hormones making you fat, always remember this: It is ALWAYS you! 12. It's that time of the year again when I go through my ritual of sending out PSAs to my non-Christian brethren to not go around wishing people a 'Happy Good Friday' and give high-fives saying “Yeah! Good Friday wala long weekend! Whooo!” The sad part is that despite my numerous attempts, through the years, there are always those select handful of morons who manage to fill my Whatsapp chats and social media feeds with a “Hey Marina, Happy Good Friday. Have a good one.” I can't even… via GIPHY Honestly, the mind just reels at the stupidity! What does it take for these people to get it? So, this year, I am taking my PSA responsibilities to the next level and am writing this article, to inform all you wonderful people, that walking around wishing Christians a 'Happy Good Friday' is probably the rudest and most disrespectful thing you could ever do. Now, I firmly believe that no one is doing this intentionally. Because if you ARE doing that, then my friend, the Lord save you. But I do believe that's it's clearly a simple matter of lack of information, which is making people say so. I mean, I get it. It has the word 'good' in it, so naturally, it's something to be celebrated, right? Sorry guys, but no. It, in fact, is one of the most solemn and sorrowful days for the Christian community across the globe. © Icon Productions Good Friday commemorates the day Jesus Christ was crucified to death in the most brutal way imaginable. The Bible says that Jesus was mercilessly beaten up, tortured and then made to carry his own cross on which he was crucified. Watch 'The Passion of Christ' to get a better idea. Yes, what's so 'good' about this entire thing, right? Clearly 'Sad Friday' would have been more apt. But there is a reason for Christ's suffering being labelled as 'good'. Now, I don't want to go into the whole logistics where the Oxford English Dictionary states that 'good' in this particular context, refers to “a day or season observed as Holy by the Church.” Instead, I want to show you the bigger picture and the deeper meaning behind Good Friday. We Christians firmly believe that Christ sacrificed himself to show his love for mankind. On Good Friday, we remember, according to 1 John 1:10, the day Jesus willingly died as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. His suffering and inhuman death, as extremely terrible as it was, was God's incredible plan to save all mankind, even though he had to sacrifice his one and only son. © Icon Productions I imagine if I was there that day Jesus died, I would have probably agreed with most of you lot and questioned what was so good about that day. All hope was lost, Satan was clearly having a party and evil had triumphed. But a few days later, something happened that turned the tables around. Good Friday is followed by Easter, the glorious day Jesus rose from the dead, marking his victory over sin and showing a future full of promise and forgiveness, for all those who believed in him. As terrible as the day was, Good Friday paved the way for mankind's salvation, which is marked as 'good' by us Christians. We humans are not capable of erasing all our sins and guilt, but Christ did the unimaginable and died for us. © Reuters Most Christians around the world spend the day in prayer and fasting and confessing their sins, as they prepare for the Easter celebrations. So there you go, I really, really, really hope I have successfully made you guys understand the meaning and the significance of this day. And here's hoping I don't see any 'Happy Good Friday' messages on my feed anymore!
  13. If you are a fan of some long shots that give the ball-collectors present in the stands a literal run for their money, then you have to appreciate the knock played by the West Indies cricketer and interim Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Kieron Pollard in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Ravichandran Ashwin's Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). His thunderous innings which included a 83-run-barrage in just 31 balls with 10 humongous sixes and three fours successfully delivered on the expectations of all of 33,000 MI fans present at the Wankhede Stadium and millions watching at home. Hardik: Kieron Pollard is a legend. Only one man could've done this.#OneFamily #CricketMeriJaan #MumbaiIndians #MIvKXIP pic.twitter.com/YcUKauYTWv — Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) April 10, 2019 When the 6'5'' tall beast of an athlete had stepped in, MI's chances of winning seemed to be extremely slim as they had to score 142 runs in just 70 balls. However, when the captain got dismissed by getting caught out by David Miller off of an Ankit Rajpoot delivery in the final over, MI had to make only 4 runs off 4 balls. Such was the impact of Pollard's bat. Ashwin and the rest of the bowlers of Kings XI tried every single trick from their book but could not shake the batsman's concentration. Hardus Viljoen tried to get under Pollard's skin by walking up to him and checking for a ball's print on his shoulder but couldn't. Rajpoot himself tried to irk the veteran ahead of the final over when he took a long run-up down the ground only to stop in the middle with a smile on his face followed by a wink directed across the pitch to the man. In return, Pollard sent his delivery (which turned out to be a 'no-ball') for a six and a four in the following free-hit delivery. Things became so frustrating for the losing skipper that he even tried a different bowling action after Pollard swung for another maximum in the previous ball. Now, despite having a decent IPL season, Ashwin has been in the news for his odd behaviour on the field. Earlier being thrashed for 'mankading' Rajasthan Royals' batter Jos Buttler and getting a photo of his face shredded by Buttler's English teammate James Anderson for the same, later on. The former Indian skipper even holds a number of epithets along the same lines, such as 'Captain Fantastic' and 'Mr. Iceman', apart from the most popular one, 'Captain Cool'. © Twitter However, today people on Twitter are chanting his name for an entirely different reason and one that is truly heartwarming. We all know how passionate Dhoni is about cricket, which obviously extends to his love for his Indian Premier League team, Chennai Super Kings and its supporters. © Twitter So, last evening, after the match with Mumbai Indians came to an end, Dhoni met up with one such special fan patiently, who was rooting for him and cheering the team from the stands. 15. I recently read an interesting comment on a Facebook post saying that every second person on the street is a fitness expert today. As absurd and ridiculous as it may sound, it is unfortunately true. Today, every person who hits the gym and manages to lose some fat or gain some muscle becomes a guru instantly. Add to that the influence some people may have due to the nature of their work, and you got a boiling hot disaster recipe. Here are some examples of these common disasters you may be following as a fitness enthusiast: 1. Actors As much as they would be in shape or transition with drastic transformations between movies, you've got to understand that they get paid to look a certain way and present a peculiar physique for a film. They might not always do it the right way or the safe way. 2. Fashion Models These are again that lot who get paid to look a certain way. And they take it to such an unhealthy extent that they sometimes starve, forcibly puke out food from their bodies or do hours and hours of cardio at a stretch to look skinny. Most of them even end up with eating disorders and looking like a hanger with clothes on the ramp. Fitness advise from them? No, thank you. 3. Bloggers These are the kind of people that companies, who want to push out useless products, reach out to. They will write a post or shoot a video or put an amazingly awesome visual and then insert a 'promo code' towards the end. You fall for it and pay for the product. The company pays these bloggers. And the vicious cycle continues. Most of the time these products are useless supplements like fat burners, herbal teas, meal replacement shakes. Read: The 'ONLY' supplements you will ever need. 4. The Bro At The Gym Signs to identify this bro: a. Sips on BCAAs at the gym b. Constantly talks about bodybuilders and compares his physique to their c. Carries five different recovery and intra-workout supplements with him (do not worry, he will show it to you) d. Preaches you should only eat clean and eat boiled chicken e. Wears a tank top all the time f. Wears a back supporting belt for doing bicep curls with 10-kilo dumbbells See this guy? Stay away from him. 5. Your Neighbor Your neighbour pretty much has an opinion and expertise on all the topics in the world, and fitness is at the very top of it. They claim that they have the knowledge of what to eat, how to control blood sugar, how you should go for a walk early in the morning for fat loss, and many more ignorant claims like these. Exchange a hello once in a while but never discuss your fitness regime with them. Unless they are a practitioner in the industry. 16. The first signs of ageing can be really agonizing. They can act as a reminder of our fleeting mortality and make us existential in no time. While we cannot control our life spans, we can, however, control these signs of ageing like scars, wrinkles, under eye circles etcetera. So, here are the first signs of ageing and how to stop them. 1. First Signs Of Sun Spots © Getty Images In our 20s, problems like sun damage start to become really apparent. The UV-damaged skin surfaces in the form of freckles, hyperpigmentation or spots. There are two solutions to this: incorporating a working retinol product in your routine which will try to reduce these spots and secondly using regular SPF to prevent further damage from the sun. A sunscreen should be like your elixir, it's the best anti-ageing product you can buy. 2. Fine Lines © Instagram Spotting fine lines can be depressing. Your laugh lines, the lines on your forehead are just some of the examples. Ageing leads to less oil production in your skin which makes your skin prone to dryness and lines. Avoid using powders on your face, they tend to absorb all the oil and moisture. Instead, get a good moisturizer for your face. 3. Dullness © Instagram With ageing, the cell-turnover slows down. The upper layer of the skin starts to become dull. To nix dullness and get your glowing face back, you need: regular exfoliation with glycolic acid will enhance cell turnover and eliminate dry, flaky, dull skin. This means regular hydrating masks, routine hydrating creams and basically all the hydrating products that you can think of. 4. Puffy Eyes © Getty Images The under eye area has a layer of thin skin and with ageing the skin thins, even more, this makes dark circles or puffiness even more apparent. Cutting out on salt and alcohol helps. This leads to water retention. Use under eye creams, masks, and log in your hours of sleep to reduce puffiness. 5. Dryness © Getty Images Dry skin is the most apparent symptom of ageing. The most obvious recommendation—moisturizer needs to be your BFF. "Your skin is in a constant battle with the environment to stay hydrated. Heat, sun, wind, air conditioning—even rinsing with water pulls moisture out of the skin. 6. Drooping Skin © Getty Images Young people get the plump, firm skin thanks to collagen and elastin, which gives structure for your face. Skin in the late 20s, begins to look less firm, around the jaw and cheeks making it loose. Again, for a situation like this, you need anti-ageing creams. They will work wonders for you.
  17. The Indian gaming industry is seeing a rapid growth, thanks to behemoths like Tencent, who're actively making an active investment. If everything goes well, digital gaming in India is expected to grow into a billion-dollar market. But it's not all roses here when it comes to gaming. According to a report by a US-based cloud services provider Limelight Networks, it looks like Indian gamers are seriously addicted to gaming. An alarming rate of Indians are even compromising on basic things like meals, sleep, and even work for playing online games. © Pexels Apparently, close to 50-per cent gamers in the country are considering quitting their jobs to take up gaming as a profession. I mean, I like the enthusiasm, but I am not sure if they all realize the risks involved. The report highlights that Indian gamers are spending nearly seven hours each week playing online games. Close to 24 per cent of players are admitting to playing for more than seven hours a week, whereas over 11 per cent of them say they indulge for more than 12 hours in a given week. To shed some more light on the matter, the report further notes that 45 per cent of Indian gamers accepted that they have missed sleep to play games. It doesn't stop there, as 35 per cent of gamers say they've missed out on spending time with their friends or going out on a date. And surprisingly, the report says that close to 24 per cent of gamers have skipped work just to play games. If not, it looks like nearly 20 per cent of gamers play at work on a daily basis. © Unsplash As I said, I like the optimism, but it's important that they need to understand the risks involved too. Professional gamers, spend more 10-15 hours a day grinding to perfect their gameplay. Twitch streamers & professional gamers like Shroud, DrDisrespect, etc., spend way too much time playing games. Some of them have even talked about the mental and physical health issues which they have to go through to put so much work. As much as I am excited about Indian gamers coming out of the closet, I am equally concerned about the addiction and other factors that are involved. Well, let's just hope that people understand what they're getting into, and it's not just because of the on-going 'PUBG' fad. I say that because a lot of Indian gamers and streamers are doing extremely well playing these new titles. Naturally, the people enjoying their streams and gameplay are bound to get attracted. However, it's important to see the full picture and balance everything before being able to support oneself as a professional gamer. If not, then this needs to stop before it's too late.
  18. If you want to build muscle, there is a chance your gym guruji tells you this: 1. Train to failure ALL the time 2. Train one muscle group for hours always 3. Train hard till you are done After a while, it frustrates you when you apply the above things and you train hard, but you don't see any results. Well, I can understand because I have done these in the past. Guess what? You need to do some smart work and not just hard work. If you are doing any of the below things, take a step back and change things: 1) Doing Too Much Volume The first mistake is doing too much volume. The volume of your workout = sets x load x reps. Your total workload is the key to muscle growth, but doing too much actually hinders recovery and will stop your progress. Most people benefit from ~10-20 sets/muscle/week. Your actual volume depends on various individual factors like age, training experience, genetics, etc. A good rule of thumb is dropping your volume by 1/3rd to half to take a step back and slowly push it up to 20 sets per muscle group per week. 2) Doing Junk Volume Aka Very Light Lifting Along with too much volume, what's equally wrong is not going hard enough on each set. If you have 4 reps left for failure, you will be able to do much more volume because each set is so damn easy. I recommend doing each set ~1-2 reps from failure but sometimes more, sometimes less. 3) No Structured Plan If you don't have a plan and just walk into a gym, you may make progress. That doesn't mean your progress can't be better. When you have a plan, you reduce guesswork and can manage variables better. Have a set training plan for 4-6 weeks and get stronger in it than doing random workouts. 4. Doing 'Bro'- Splits It's okay to start with one muscle per day but not suitable for long-term progress. You either do too much volume which leaves you sore for your other sessions during the week or you are limiting growth by not taking advantage of elevated muscle protein synthesis. 5) Chasing The Pump Via Lightweights: Progressive overload means you do more work, and thus more volume, over time. Getting a pump causes muscle growth, but you will reach a point at which you have to increase the load/reps. So focus on doing more volume over time and do pump work at the end of your workouts and not your entire workout. 6) Not Applying A Wide Range Of Rep Scheme: Lastly, scientific research has shown that muscle growth can happen in a variety of rep ranges. Training in rep ranges outside of 8-12 reps can help you train different capacities and help push for progressive overload. So you can split your training in a broad spectrum from 3-30 reps. 19. We humans always do things to move forward. Our technology gets better every passing year. Our daily essentials are better than what they were a few years ago, even our cars and bikes have gotten better, proving that we aim for betterment. In fitness, sadly, we tend to take two steps forward and three steps back. New data and hundreds of scientific studies emerge everyday disproving the old beliefs held by the bodybuilders of the past and present. Still, people do not want to use their brains and simply buy into the hype. © MensXP Spoiler alert: It is not those magic supplements or magic workouts making the bodybuilders huge and jacked. Here are some fitness trends that should have stopped in 2018 (at least, stop them in 2019): 1. Muscle Confusion Workouts Your muscles are smart. If you do the same workout, they won't respond. Switch your exercises every four weeks. Your muscles won't understand how to respond. They will grow then. This theory is as good as saying, study Chemistry for a Math test. Your brain will be confused and you top the class. Plain stupid. Muscles grow primarily through mechanical overload. To grow muscle, you have to become strong. © MensXP If you switch your exercises every 3-4 weeks, you are picking a new movement. You need time to adapt to the movement. After some time you will gain strength. When that time comes, you will do the same stupidity and switch exercises. 2. Stop Buying BCAAs & Fat Burners We all want results quickly. Just a couple of years before 2010, when Internet education was not much, this prominent scam was running rampantly. Someone from Nigeria was dying and of all the people they knew, wanted to give you the money they had in savings. Some even millions of dollars. The catch was that you needed to send them some $10,000 so they could pay the taxes and transfer fees. Funnily enough, many people willingly jumped into the scam. Why? Simply because they were promised to become rich very quickly. The same thing goes with these so-called magical supplements. They promise you overnight results. Burn fat overnight. Get jacked overnight. People shout back, 'Take my money.' Time and again, data has shown that these supplements do nothing at best. There is data suggesting BCAAs could actually lead to muscle loss. Still, people would want to buy it. © MensXP If you really want to invest in supplements, read this piece. 3. Cut Out Carbs From Your Diet Carbs raise insulin. Insulin makes you fat. Carbs are evil. Carbs are everything that's wrong with humanity. Carbs cause cancer, etc. All this stupidity is spewed by certain 'experts' who believe they know everything about nutrition based on articles published by a journalist who has a company thriving on lying to people. Suddenly, these people become gurus and have a herd of sheep worshipping them. What really matters for weight loss? A sustained calorie deficit. The laws of thermodynamics dictate changes in body stores and weight. Eat carbs or do keto, does not make any difference. Pick a diet that helps you adhere to a calorie deficit. There is no one-size-fits-all. So, if you think you need to stop eating carbs to lose weight and you actually enjoy eating carbs, do not go down the ketogenic rabbit hole. I hope this article speaks to you and calls you out on the bullshit you have been listening. Spreading bullshit is just one part of the problem. Accepting and following the bullshit blindly is a bigger problem. Sometimes things can go terribly wrong with even the best of us and no one can understand this better than Johnny English and a bunch of cops in Bulgaria, who learnt this in the 'spiciest' way possible. These Bulgaria cops were sent on a super important mission of dispersing a crowd of protestors outside the Bulgarian parliament, in the capital Sofia. The cops tried their best but thanks to the weather, they came back home with teary-eyes and a video which is now going viral as an epic fail. via GIPHY The cops initially tried stopping them by using barricades, but when things went out of control they decided to use pepper spray on them. However, the cops failed to check the direction in which the wind was blowing. So, the moment they sprayed it in the air, the pepper spray went into their eyes and the cops were seen running away while rubbing their eyes in pain. They had to later rinse their eyes with water. 22. Whether you are a casual health enthusiast, sportsperson, athlete, powerlifter or hardcore gym freak, you all know the importance of adequate protein in your daily diet. While the average person may not need as much protein as a sportsperson or hardcore gym freak, that doesn`t mean that they are getting optimal amounts of protein in their diet. © Thinkstock Images International society of sports nutrition recommends 1.4-2gm of protein per kg of bodyweight for athletes. This means 112gm -160gm of protein a day for a 80kg athlete. This requirement can go even higher depending on these things: 1. If someone is training hard frequently along with a job that requires much physical work. 2. If someone trying to lose fat without losing much muscle. 3. To improve body composition. 4. If someone using Steroids (PEDs). First priority to get all this protein should be from real foods which have complete amino acid profile such as chicken, mutton, lamb, fish, cheese, eggs or milk. People who are vegetarian are left with only limited options .On top of that if they have a busy lifestyle where they can`t eat as much solid food will have to rely on protein powder supplements. Another situation where reliance on protein powders (Whey isolate, Soy, Pea,Rice) may increase is when someone is suffering from “Lactose intolerance”. It is estimated that 60-70 % of Indians are lactose intolerant with south Indians being more affected (66.6%) than north Indians (27.4%). Lactose intolerance is a condition where the affected person is unable to digest a sugar called lactose present in Dairy products. As a result, affected person gets bloating, painful stomach cramps, gas or vomiting. While whey concentrate may have some amount of lactose present in it, whey isolate reduces it to much lower level which most people may get comfortable with. Even better option for people with lactose intolerance is using protein powders made from Soy, Pea, Rice or a blend of any of the three. They are again considered high quality proteins. -As a pure vegetarian who`s not using any Performance enhancing drugs, it becomes really challenging to get below 10% body fat without losing muscle mass. And any athlete who has worked hard day and night (with training and diet) to achieve that few pounds of muscle will not want to lose it very easily. Getting to extremely low body fat levels (Stage/photo-shoot condition) require calorie restriction and very little amount of carbs and fats in diet. However, most vegetarian high quality protein sources will also give you quite high amount of carbs and fats along with it, which is fine when you are maintaining or bulking but not ideal when cutting. © Thinkstock Images Every 3gm of protein from milk in 100ml will also give you 5-6gm of carbs with it. Now do the math of how much carbs you will be getting in order to complete 30gm of protein milk. The same amount of carbs you can better get from solid food when on a restrictive diet to remain full for longer. Similarly trying to get 18gm of protein from cheese will also give you 25gm of fat with it. While the same amount of protein you can get from casein protein scoop giving you almost negligible to 2gm of fat. People who are non vegetarians or eat eggs can do a cut/fat loss protocol quite easily since they can consume lean protein sources such as egg whites and chicken breast having no fat. The same can`t be said for pure vegetarians. I may get a little hate in comment section for promoting the usage of protein powders, but you ask yourself “Am I really promoting it or just showing you reality”? © Thinkstock Images Have a good day, folks! And stop thinking of protein powders as something taboo or associating it with steroids. 23. So, the 'Notorious' Irishman has made headlines for his encounter with the law, yet again! This time for allegedly strong-armed robbery and misdemeanor and criminal mischief against an English civilian during his stay in Miami, Florida. According to MMA Fighting, Conor McGregor, the former UFC two-division champion, was charged on two counts for allegedly smashing the civilian's phone on Monday, outside a famous Miami Beach hotel as confirmed by the Miami Beach Police Department. MBPD has arrested and charged Conor McGregor, DOB: 7/14/88, with Strong Arm Robbery and Criminal Mischief, both felonies. Please see arrest report and booking photo below. No additional information will be provided. pic.twitter.com/9HdkRWPnd8 — Miami Beach Police (@MiamiBeachPD) March 12, 2019 Based on the arrest affidavit, both McGregor and the English citizen named Ahmed Abdirzak were exiting the hotel around half-past-five in the morning when the latter tried to capture the fighter's image with his phone. Displeased with the incident, McGregor decided to deal with the fan on his own. He snatched the phone out of the hands of Abdirzak, threw it on the ground, stomped on it a couple of times while causing a great amount of damage to the device and finally picked it up and walked away with it. After a case was filed against the Irishman, his attorney Samuel Rabin issued a statement on the incident: “Last evening Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation over a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement. Mr McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.” Twitter rewarded the formal champion in the most 'Conor McGregor' way possible, by roasting him online: BREAKING: Conor McGregor Does A Conor McGregor — WWN (@WhispersNewsLTD) March 11, 2019 Fucking love Conor McGregor but he does himself no favours at allð — Connor Marshall (@ConnorM1872) March 11, 2019 Conor McGregor got arrested for stealing and smashing a fans phone. He is also currently undergoing a 6-month ban and has already paid a hefty fine worth $50,000 for the widely covered altercation with his opponent, Khabib Nurmagomedov that took place last year. After losing to the Russian via submission in the fourth round, Nurmagomedov leaped out of the octagon and attacked McGregor's entourage as a response of months of bullying and unfriendly behaviour displayed by Team McGregor towards Khabib, his coach and the rest of his squad.
  24. Ever since MS Dhoni called time on his Test career, the Indian selectors have been busy trying to fill in the void. They've tried Wriddhiman Saha who did quite an impressive job in the longest format. Then, we saw the ascension of Dinesh Karthik to the Indian team. And now, young Rishabh Pant is being looked upon as Dhoni's worthy successor behind the stumps. Amongst the available options, Dhoni, himself, had backed Pant as his potential successor when he dropped himself from the Indian squad for the Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Australia last November. For a man who considers Dhoni his idol, Pant appeared to have thrived in the limited opportunities he has got in the Indian team so far. His batting prowess surely makes him a valuable addition to the Indian team down the order. But, sadly, the same can't be said about his wicket-keeping skills. At the age of just 21, Pant is still young and continues to learn the art of wicket-keeping. However, with the ICC World Cup around the corner, the margin for error is very low for the youngster. © AP While many have advocated Pant's case in the recent past, the 4th One-Day International (ODI) between India and Australia gave a stark reminder why he is still a work in progress as far as wicket-keeping is concerned. The clash in Mohali saw India losing, what is being deemed as an unlosable game, as Australia chased down the fifth-highest target (359 runs) in ODI cricket. From misreading the conditions to missing key chances, there were a flurry of mistakes Indian cricket team find themselves pondering over as Aussies fought back from being 0-2 to 2-2 in the five-match series. While Kedar Jadhav missed a tough chance at deep midwicket in the 47th over, Shikhar Dhawan put down an absolute dolly at mid-off in the same over. However, amongst the lost opportunities, Pant's blunders were arguably the ones that ended up hurting India's chances the most at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium. In the 39th over, Peter Handscomb had already notched up his maiden ODI hundred and was eager to take the momentum away from India when he decided to step out of the crease, looking for a big shot. Realising Handscomb's intentions, Kuldeep Yadav shortened his length and ensured the batsman missed the ball. But, it was Pant's inability to collect the ball cleanly to effect the stumping that gave a crucial lifeline to Handscomb as Kuldeep and a packed Mohali stadium watched in disbelief. Pant's mistakes...!! pic.twitter.com/qyo9Kpkdox — Vidshots (@Vidshots1) March 10, 2019 But, it was the 44th over that left the Indian team, owing to Pant's blunders, completely red-faced. The first delivery of Yuzvendra Chahal's over saw Pant fluffing another stumping opportunity that could've surely sent dangerous-looking Turner back into the hut. Disheartened by the lost chance, Chahal bowled the third delivery right into the blockhole as Alex Carey just about managed to squeeze it away from the stumps. But, Pant's effort to pull-off Dhoni's 'No Look' throw converted a dot ball into a single. Watch the Mahi magic on loop #INDvNZ https://t.co/btMoJF0xC3 — BCCI (@BCCI) October 26, 2016 The fourth delivery of the same over saw Turner charging down the track only to get beaten wide outside the off-stump. Making amends for his mistake, Pant successfully managed to grab the ball this time around and jumped in appeal for a potential caught behind dismissal. Pant's confidence that the Aussie had edged the ball convinced Virat Kohli to review and even as the replays showed a noticeable spike on 'Ultra-Edge', the third umpire deemed it not out and called for a wide. While Pant should hardly be blamed for the last opportunity as there was actually a spike in replays, the other three blunders undoubtedly proved costly for his team's chances to win the game and seal the series. Though Pant is still young and needs time to establish himself as India's go-to wicket-keeper, the left-hander must learn to work on his strengths rather than copying Dhoni's artistry with the gloves. © AP In the two stumping opportunities he missed, Pant was so eager to whip the bails off that he almost forgot to collect it in the first place. Dhoni's lightening quick glovework is a technique derived through impeccable hand-eye coordination, developed over years of hard work. Similarly, when Pant tried to pull off Dhoni's 'No Look' throw, he looked very casual - something that further evoked a strong reaction from his captain on the field. It's one thing to idolise someone, but, to become like them, is an uphill battle that takes time. Pant might have pulled off Dhoni's unorthodox style of wicket-keeping a million times in the practice sessions. But if you can't do it correctly in crunch situations during a key clash, then, the wise thing would be to stick to the basics, rather than being flamboyant - a lesson Pant must learn to live up to his billing as Dhoni's successor behind the stumps.
