  1. It's that time of the year again when I go through my ritual of sending out PSAs to my non-Christian brethren to not go around wishing people a 'Happy Good Friday' and give high-fives saying “Yeah! Good Friday wala long weekend! Whooo!” The sad part is that despite my numerous attempts, through the years, there are always those select handful of morons who manage to fill my Whatsapp chats and social media feeds with a “Hey Marina, Happy Good Friday. Have a good one.” I can't even… via GIPHY Honestly, the mind just reels at the stupidity! What does it take for these people to get it? So, this year, I am taking my PSA responsibilities to the next level and am writing this article, to inform all you wonderful people, that walking around wishing Christians a 'Happy Good Friday' is probably the rudest and most disrespectful thing you could ever do. Now, I firmly believe that no one is doing this intentionally. Because if you ARE doing that, then my friend, the Lord save you. But I do believe that's it's clearly a simple matter of lack of information, which is making people say so. I mean, I get it. It has the word 'good' in it, so naturally, it's something to be celebrated, right? Sorry guys, but no. It, in fact, is one of the most solemn and sorrowful days for the Christian community across the globe. © Icon Productions Good Friday commemorates the day Jesus Christ was crucified to death in the most brutal way imaginable. The Bible says that Jesus was mercilessly beaten up, tortured and then made to carry his own cross on which he was crucified. Watch 'The Passion of Christ' to get a better idea. Yes, what's so 'good' about this entire thing, right? Clearly 'Sad Friday' would have been more apt. But there is a reason for Christ's suffering being labelled as 'good'. Now, I don't want to go into the whole logistics where the Oxford English Dictionary states that 'good' in this particular context, refers to “a day or season observed as Holy by the Church.” Instead, I want to show you the bigger picture and the deeper meaning behind Good Friday. We Christians firmly believe that Christ sacrificed himself to show his love for mankind. On Good Friday, we remember, according to 1 John 1:10, the day Jesus willingly died as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. His suffering and inhuman death, as extremely terrible as it was, was God's incredible plan to save all mankind, even though he had to sacrifice his one and only son. © Icon Productions I imagine if I was there that day Jesus died, I would have probably agreed with most of you lot and questioned what was so good about that day. All hope was lost, Satan was clearly having a party and evil had triumphed. But a few days later, something happened that turned the tables around. Good Friday is followed by Easter, the glorious day Jesus rose from the dead, marking his victory over sin and showing a future full of promise and forgiveness, for all those who believed in him. As terrible as the day was, Good Friday paved the way for mankind's salvation, which is marked as 'good' by us Christians. We humans are not capable of erasing all our sins and guilt, but Christ did the unimaginable and died for us. © Reuters Most Christians around the world spend the day in prayer and fasting and confessing their sins, as they prepare for the Easter celebrations. So there you go, I really, really, really hope I have successfully made you guys understand the meaning and the significance of this day. And here's hoping I don't see any 'Happy Good Friday' messages on my feed anymore!
  2. If you are a fan of some long shots that give the ball-collectors present in the stands a literal run for their money, then you have to appreciate the knock played by the West Indies cricketer and interim Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Kieron Pollard in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Ravichandran Ashwin's Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). His thunderous innings which included a 83-run-barrage in just 31 balls with 10 humongous sixes and three fours successfully delivered on the expectations of all of 33,000 MI fans present at the Wankhede Stadium and millions watching at home. Hardik: Kieron Pollard is a legend. Only one man could've done this.#OneFamily #CricketMeriJaan #MumbaiIndians #MIvKXIP pic.twitter.com/YcUKauYTWv — Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) April 10, 2019 When the 6'5'' tall beast of an athlete had stepped in, MI's chances of winning seemed to be extremely slim as they had to score 142 runs in just 70 balls. However, when the captain got dismissed by getting caught out by David Miller off of an Ankit Rajpoot delivery in the final over, MI had to make only 4 runs off 4 balls. Such was the impact of Pollard's bat. Ashwin and the rest of the bowlers of Kings XI tried every single trick from their book but could not shake the batsman's concentration. Hardus Viljoen tried to get under Pollard's skin by walking up to him and checking for a ball's print on his shoulder but couldn't. Rajpoot himself tried to irk the veteran ahead of the final over when he took a long run-up down the ground only to stop in the middle with a smile on his face followed by a wink directed across the pitch to the man. In return, Pollard sent his delivery (which turned out to be a 'no-ball') for a six and a four in the following free-hit delivery. Things became so frustrating for the losing skipper that he even tried a different bowling action after Pollard swung for another maximum in the previous ball. Now, despite having a decent IPL season, Ashwin has been in the news for his odd behaviour on the field. Earlier being thrashed for 'mankading' Rajasthan Royals' batter Jos Buttler and getting a photo of his face shredded by Buttler's English teammate James Anderson for the same, later on. So when the Chennai-born all-rounder changed the way he bowls, the cricketing world wanted to know what's up: What is wrong with Ashwin! He has 3 actions to bowl now. — Miraj. 3. MS Dhoni is the 'coolest' captain the Indian cricket team has ever had. And literally so. Boy, can the man keep calm under duress or what? The former Indian skipper even holds a number of epithets along the same lines, such as 'Captain Fantastic' and 'Mr. Iceman', apart from the most popular one, 'Captain Cool'. © Twitter However, today people on Twitter are chanting his name for an entirely different reason and one that is truly heartwarming. We all know how passionate Dhoni is about cricket, which obviously extends to his love for his Indian Premier League team, Chennai Super Kings and its supporters. © Twitter So, last evening, after the match with Mumbai Indians came to an end, Dhoni met up with one such special fan patiently, who was rooting for him and cheering the team from the stands. The fan is special because she is an elderly woman who was seen gracing the stands during the match, holding a placard that read, “I am here only for Dhoni.” Captain cool, @msdhoni humble ð Heartwarming to see this gesture from the legend in Mumbai ð¤@ChennaiIPL #VIVOIPL pic.twitter.com/6llHlenIzL — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 4, 2019 Captain Cool not only interacted with his die-hard, elderly fan with humility and affection, but also clicked selfies with her, and presented her with an autographed CSK jersey! The video of this heartwarming meeting was shared on the Indian Premier League's official Twitter handle, which has since been widely viewed and circulated on social media. © Twitter What's more, all the Dhoni fans across the country cannot stop chanting 'Captain Cool' for his kind gesture from Dhoni. 4. I recently read an interesting comment on a Facebook post saying that every second person on the street is a fitness expert today. As absurd and ridiculous as it may sound, it is unfortunately true. Today, every person who hits the gym and manages to lose some fat or gain some muscle becomes a guru instantly. Add to that the influence some people may have due to the nature of their work, and you got a boiling hot disaster recipe. Here are some examples of these common disasters you may be following as a fitness enthusiast: 1. Actors As much as they would be in shape or transition with drastic transformations between movies, you've got to understand that they get paid to look a certain way and present a peculiar physique for a film. They might not always do it the right way or the safe way. 2. Fashion Models These are again that lot who get paid to look a certain way. And they take it to such an unhealthy extent that they sometimes starve, forcibly puke out food from their bodies or do hours and hours of cardio at a stretch to look skinny. Most of them even end up with eating disorders and looking like a hanger with clothes on the ramp. Fitness advise from them? No, thank you. 3. Bloggers These are the kind of people that companies, who want to push out useless products, reach out to. They will write a post or shoot a video or put an amazingly awesome visual and then insert a 'promo code' towards the end. You fall for it and pay for the product. The company pays these bloggers. And the vicious cycle continues. Most of the time these products are useless supplements like fat burners, herbal teas, meal replacement shakes. Read: The 'ONLY' supplements you will ever need. 4. The Bro At The Gym Signs to identify this bro: a. Sips on BCAAs at the gym b. Constantly talks about bodybuilders and compares his physique to their c. Carries five different recovery and intra-workout supplements with him (do not worry, he will show it to you) d. Preaches you should only eat clean and eat boiled chicken e. Wears a tank top all the time f. Wears a back supporting belt for doing bicep curls with 10-kilo dumbbells See this guy? Stay away from him. 5. Your Neighbor Your neighbour pretty much has an opinion and expertise on all the topics in the world, and fitness is at the very top of it. They claim that they have the knowledge of what to eat, how to control blood sugar, how you should go for a walk early in the morning for fat loss, and many more ignorant claims like these. Exchange a hello once in a while but never discuss your fitness regime with them. Unless they are a practitioner in the industry. 5. The first signs of ageing can be really agonizing. They can act as a reminder of our fleeting mortality and make us existential in no time. While we cannot control our life spans, we can, however, control these signs of ageing like scars, wrinkles, under eye circles etcetera. So, here are the first signs of ageing and how to stop them. 1. First Signs Of Sun Spots © Getty Images In our 20s, problems like sun damage start to become really apparent. The UV-damaged skin surfaces in the form of freckles, hyperpigmentation or spots. There are two solutions to this: incorporating a working retinol product in your routine which will try to reduce these spots and secondly using regular SPF to prevent further damage from the sun. A sunscreen should be like your elixir, it's the best anti-ageing product you can buy. 2. Fine Lines © Instagram Spotting fine lines can be depressing. Your laugh lines, the lines on your forehead are just some of the examples. Ageing leads to less oil production in your skin which makes your skin prone to dryness and lines. Avoid using powders on your face, they tend to absorb all the oil and moisture. Instead, get a good moisturizer for your face. 3. Dullness © Instagram With ageing, the cell-turnover slows down. The upper layer of the skin starts to become dull. To nix dullness and get your glowing face back, you need: regular exfoliation with glycolic acid will enhance cell turnover and eliminate dry, flaky, dull skin. This means regular hydrating masks, routine hydrating creams and basically all the hydrating products that you can think of. 4. Puffy Eyes © Getty Images The under eye area has a layer of thin skin and with ageing the skin thins, even more, this makes dark circles or puffiness even more apparent. Cutting out on salt and alcohol helps. This leads to water retention. Use under eye creams, masks, and log in your hours of sleep to reduce puffiness. 5. Dryness © Getty Images Dry skin is the most apparent symptom of ageing. The most obvious recommendation—moisturizer needs to be your BFF. "Your skin is in a constant battle with the environment to stay hydrated. Heat, sun, wind, air conditioning—even rinsing with water pulls moisture out of the skin. 6. Drooping Skin © Getty Images Young people get the plump, firm skin thanks to collagen and elastin, which gives structure for your face. Skin in the late 20s, begins to look less firm, around the jaw and cheeks making it loose. Again, for a situation like this, you need anti-ageing creams. They will work wonders for you.
  6. The Indian gaming industry is seeing a rapid growth, thanks to behemoths like Tencent, who're actively making an active investment. If everything goes well, digital gaming in India is expected to grow into a billion-dollar market. But it's not all roses here when it comes to gaming. According to a report by a US-based cloud services provider Limelight Networks, it looks like Indian gamers are seriously addicted to gaming. An alarming rate of Indians are even compromising on basic things like meals, sleep, and even work for playing online games. © Pexels Apparently, close to 50-per cent gamers in the country are considering quitting their jobs to take up gaming as a profession. I mean, I like the enthusiasm, but I am not sure if they all realize the risks involved. The report highlights that Indian gamers are spending nearly seven hours each week playing online games. Close to 24 per cent of players are admitting to playing for more than seven hours a week, whereas over 11 per cent of them say they indulge for more than 12 hours in a given week. To shed some more light on the matter, the report further notes that 45 per cent of Indian gamers accepted that they have missed sleep to play games. It doesn't stop there, as 35 per cent of gamers say they've missed out on spending time with their friends or going out on a date. And surprisingly, the report says that close to 24 per cent of gamers have skipped work just to play games. If not, it looks like nearly 20 per cent of gamers play at work on a daily basis. © Unsplash As I said, I like the optimism, but it's important that they need to understand the risks involved too. Professional gamers, spend more 10-15 hours a day grinding to perfect their gameplay. Twitch streamers & professional gamers like Shroud, DrDisrespect, etc., spend way too much time playing games. Some of them have even talked about the mental and physical health issues which they have to go through to put so much work. As much as I am excited about Indian gamers coming out of the closet, I am equally concerned about the addiction and other factors that are involved. Well, let's just hope that people understand what they're getting into, and it's not just because of the on-going 'PUBG' fad. I say that because a lot of Indian gamers and streamers are doing extremely well playing these new titles. Naturally, the people enjoying their streams and gameplay are bound to get attracted. However, it's important to see the full picture and balance everything before being able to support oneself as a professional gamer. If not, then this needs to stop before it's too late.
  7. If you want to build muscle, there is a chance your gym guruji tells you this: 1. Train to failure ALL the time 2. Train one muscle group for hours always 3. Train hard till you are done After a while, it frustrates you when you apply the above things and you train hard, but you don't see any results. Well, I can understand because I have done these in the past. Guess what? You need to do some smart work and not just hard work. If you are doing any of the below things, take a step back and change things: 1) Doing Too Much Volume The first mistake is doing too much volume. The volume of your workout = sets x load x reps. Your total workload is the key to muscle growth, but doing too much actually hinders recovery and will stop your progress. Most people benefit from ~10-20 sets/muscle/week. Your actual volume depends on various individual factors like age, training experience, genetics, etc. A good rule of thumb is dropping your volume by 1/3rd to half to take a step back and slowly push it up to 20 sets per muscle group per week. 2) Doing Junk Volume Aka Very Light Lifting Along with too much volume, what's equally wrong is not going hard enough on each set. If you have 4 reps left for failure, you will be able to do much more volume because each set is so damn easy. I recommend doing each set ~1-2 reps from failure but sometimes more, sometimes less. 3) No Structured Plan If you don't have a plan and just walk into a gym, you may make progress. That doesn't mean your progress can't be better. When you have a plan, you reduce guesswork and can manage variables better. Have a set training plan for 4-6 weeks and get stronger in it than doing random workouts. 4. Doing 'Bro'- Splits It's okay to start with one muscle per day but not suitable for long-term progress. You either do too much volume which leaves you sore for your other sessions during the week or you are limiting growth by not taking advantage of elevated muscle protein synthesis. 5) Chasing The Pump Via Lightweights: Progressive overload means you do more work, and thus more volume, over time. Getting a pump causes muscle growth, but you will reach a point at which you have to increase the load/reps. So focus on doing more volume over time and do pump work at the end of your workouts and not your entire workout. 6) Not Applying A Wide Range Of Rep Scheme: Lastly, scientific research has shown that muscle growth can happen in a variety of rep ranges. Training in rep ranges outside of 8-12 reps can help you train different capacities and help push for progressive overload. So you can split your training in a broad spectrum from 3-30 reps. 8. We humans always do things to move forward. Our technology gets better every passing year. Our daily essentials are better than what they were a few years ago, even our cars and bikes have gotten better, proving that we aim for betterment. In fitness, sadly, we tend to take two steps forward and three steps back. New data and hundreds of scientific studies emerge everyday disproving the old beliefs held by the bodybuilders of the past and present. Still, people do not want to use their brains and simply buy into the hype. © MensXP Spoiler alert: It is not those magic supplements or magic workouts making the bodybuilders huge and jacked. Here are some fitness trends that should have stopped in 2018 (at least, stop them in 2019): 1. Muscle Confusion Workouts Your muscles are smart. If you do the same workout, they won't respond. Switch your exercises every four weeks. Your muscles won't understand how to respond. They will grow then. This theory is as good as saying, study Chemistry for a Math test. Your brain will be confused and you top the class. Plain stupid. Muscles grow primarily through mechanical overload. To grow muscle, you have to become strong. © MensXP If you switch your exercises every 3-4 weeks, you are picking a new movement. You need time to adapt to the movement. After some time you will gain strength. When that time comes, you will do the same stupidity and switch exercises. 2. Stop Buying BCAAs & Fat Burners We all want results quickly. Just a couple of years before 2010, when Internet education was not much, this prominent scam was running rampantly. Someone from Nigeria was dying and of all the people they knew, wanted to give you the money they had in savings. Some even millions of dollars. The catch was that you needed to send them some $10,000 so they could pay the taxes and transfer fees. Funnily enough, many people willingly jumped into the scam. Why? Simply because they were promised to become rich very quickly. The same thing goes with these so-called magical supplements. They promise you overnight results. Burn fat overnight. Get jacked overnight. People shout back, 'Take my money.' Time and again, data has shown that these supplements do nothing at best. There is data suggesting BCAAs could actually lead to muscle loss. Still, people would want to buy it. © MensXP If you really want to invest in supplements, read this piece. 3. Cut Out Carbs From Your Diet Carbs raise insulin. Insulin makes you fat. Carbs are evil. Carbs are everything that's wrong with humanity. Carbs cause cancer, etc. All this stupidity is spewed by certain 'experts' who believe they know everything about nutrition based on articles published by a journalist who has a company thriving on lying to people. Suddenly, these people become gurus and have a herd of sheep worshipping them. What really matters for weight loss? A sustained calorie deficit. The laws of thermodynamics dictate changes in body stores and weight. Eat carbs or do keto, does not make any difference. Pick a diet that helps you adhere to a calorie deficit. There is no one-size-fits-all. So, if you think you need to stop eating carbs to lose weight and you actually enjoy eating carbs, do not go down the ketogenic rabbit hole. I hope this article speaks to you and calls you out on the bullshit you have been listening. Spreading bullshit is just one part of the problem. Accepting and following the bullshit blindly is a bigger problem. 9. Sometimes things can go terribly wrong with even the best of us and no one can understand this better than Johnny English and a bunch of cops in Bulgaria, who learnt this in the 'spiciest' way possible. These Bulgaria cops were sent on a super important mission of dispersing a crowd of protestors outside the Bulgarian parliament, in the capital Sofia. The cops tried their best but thanks to the weather, they came back home with teary-eyes and a video which is now going viral as an epic fail. via GIPHY The cops initially tried stopping them by using barricades, but when things went out of control they decided to use pepper spray on them. However, the cops failed to check the direction in which the wind was blowing. So, the moment they sprayed it in the air, the pepper spray went into their eyes and the cops were seen running away while rubbing their eyes in pain. They had to later rinse their eyes with water. Bulgarian police used pepper spray against protesters in front of parliament, but didn't take the wind direction into account pic.twitter.com/B8b7uQyIEG — Jasper Neve (@JasperNeve) March 17, 2019 Ever since the video was shared on social media, people on Twitter are having a field day tripping over this video. 10. The 'Sonchiriya' actor Manoj Bajpai was conferred the prestigious Padma Shri award by President Ramnath Kovind, in a ceremony held in New Delhi on the 16th of March. One of the finest actors in the industry, Bajpai was nominated for the award back in January, for which he said he was happy no one abused him over social media upon being nominated. (c)Twitter “My friends, relatives and followers are very happy with it. I have observed that till now, no one has abused me on social media and no one has created controversy when my name was announced. As one of the awardees of Padma Shri Award so, I am really happy and it's a good thing that when you get an honour nobody has raised objections against it,” Bajpai told a popular news agency. Dressed in a traditional attire, Bajpai was full of gratitude and happiness upon receiving the award by the president. It's about time veteran actors get recognised for the dedication and hard work they've put in to give the industry some good quality content and we're glad Bajpai who is amongst the finest to have received it. Madhavan. Earlier, in an interview with a popular publication, Manoj had said being recognised by the government meant a lot to him as his work and dedication finally found meaning. “All other awards are given for excellence in a role or a film. But Padma Shri is given for excellence in your journey. It's not just about a film you have contributed to but through your art and craft the contribution you have made to the society. So, that's a huge comment on the achievement of an artist like me,” Manoj was quoted in an interview with a popular publication. (c)Twitter Be it 'Gangs of Wasseypur' or even 'Satya', the man has shown us he is one of the best actors the industry has today and he carries forth his dedication toward cinema with ease. The last movie the actor did was 'Sonchiriya', which is a dacoit drama. Although the movie wasn't a success at the box office, it surely did win over the critics. For now, Bajpai's huge fan base, including Bollywood celebrities, are cheering for him and tweeting some good wishes his way. ðð¼ðð¼ðð¼ðð¼ðð¼ðð¼ðð¼ð¤ Mubarak ho sir !!! — taapsee pannu (@taapsee) 16 March 2019 Jawani aa gayi hai kaafi.. mubarak ho bhaisahab — Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) 16 March 2019 Kudos Kudos Kudos my friend!!! ððððð — KayKay Menon (@kaykaymenon02) 16 March 2019 Wow! 11. Whether you are a casual health enthusiast, sportsperson, athlete, powerlifter or hardcore gym freak, you all know the importance of adequate protein in your daily diet. While the average person may not need as much protein as a sportsperson or hardcore gym freak, that doesn`t mean that they are getting optimal amounts of protein in their diet. © Thinkstock Images International society of sports nutrition recommends 1.4-2gm of protein per kg of bodyweight for athletes. This means 112gm -160gm of protein a day for a 80kg athlete. This requirement can go even higher depending on these things: 1. If someone is training hard frequently along with a job that requires much physical work. 2. If someone trying to lose fat without losing much muscle. 3. To improve body composition. 4. If someone using Steroids (PEDs). First priority to get all this protein should be from real foods which have complete amino acid profile such as chicken, mutton, lamb, fish, cheese, eggs or milk. People who are vegetarian are left with only limited options .On top of that if they have a busy lifestyle where they can`t eat as much solid food will have to rely on protein powder supplements. Another situation where reliance on protein powders (Whey isolate, Soy, Pea,Rice) may increase is when someone is suffering from “Lactose intolerance”. It is estimated that 60-70 % of Indians are lactose intolerant with south Indians being more affected (66.6%) than north Indians (27.4%). Lactose intolerance is a condition where the affected person is unable to digest a sugar called lactose present in Dairy products. As a result, affected person gets bloating, painful stomach cramps, gas or vomiting. While whey concentrate may have some amount of lactose present in it, whey isolate reduces it to much lower level which most people may get comfortable with. Even better option for people with lactose intolerance is using protein powders made from Soy, Pea, Rice or a blend of any of the three. They are again considered high quality proteins. -As a pure vegetarian who`s not using any Performance enhancing drugs, it becomes really challenging to get below 10% body fat without losing muscle mass. And any athlete who has worked hard day and night (with training and diet) to achieve that few pounds of muscle will not want to lose it very easily. Getting to extremely low body fat levels (Stage/photo-shoot condition) require calorie restriction and very little amount of carbs and fats in diet. However, most vegetarian high quality protein sources will also give you quite high amount of carbs and fats along with it, which is fine when you are maintaining or bulking but not ideal when cutting. © Thinkstock Images Every 3gm of protein from milk in 100ml will also give you 5-6gm of carbs with it. Now do the math of how much carbs you will be getting in order to complete 30gm of protein milk. The same amount of carbs you can better get from solid food when on a restrictive diet to remain full for longer. Similarly trying to get 18gm of protein from cheese will also give you 25gm of fat with it. While the same amount of protein you can get from casein protein scoop giving you almost negligible to 2gm of fat. People who are non vegetarians or eat eggs can do a cut/fat loss protocol quite easily since they can consume lean protein sources such as egg whites and chicken breast having no fat. The same can`t be said for pure vegetarians. I may get a little hate in comment section for promoting the usage of protein powders, but you ask yourself “Am I really promoting it or just showing you reality”? © Thinkstock Images Have a good day, folks! And stop thinking of protein powders as something taboo or associating it with steroids. 12. So, the 'Notorious' Irishman has made headlines for his encounter with the law, yet again! This time for allegedly strong-armed robbery and misdemeanor and criminal mischief against an English civilian during his stay in Miami, Florida. According to MMA Fighting, Conor McGregor, the former UFC two-division champion, was charged on two counts for allegedly smashing the civilian's phone on Monday, outside a famous Miami Beach hotel as confirmed by the Miami Beach Police Department. MBPD has arrested and charged Conor McGregor, DOB: 7/14/88, with Strong Arm Robbery and Criminal Mischief, both felonies. Please see arrest report and booking photo below. No additional information will be provided. pic.twitter.com/9HdkRWPnd8 — Miami Beach Police (@MiamiBeachPD) March 12, 2019 Based on the arrest affidavit, both McGregor and the English citizen named Ahmed Abdirzak were exiting the hotel around half-past-five in the morning when the latter tried to capture the fighter's image with his phone. Displeased with the incident, McGregor decided to deal with the fan on his own. He snatched the phone out of the hands of Abdirzak, threw it on the ground, stomped on it a couple of times while causing a great amount of damage to the device and finally picked it up and walked away with it. After a case was filed against the Irishman, his attorney Samuel Rabin issued a statement on the incident: “Last evening Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation over a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement. Mr McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.” Twitter rewarded the formal champion in the most 'Conor McGregor' way possible, by roasting him online: BREAKING: Conor McGregor Does A Conor McGregor — WWN (@WhispersNewsLTD) March 11, 2019 Fucking love Conor McGregor but he does himself no favours at allð — Connor Marshall (@ConnorM1872) March 11, 2019 Conor McGregor got arrested for stealing and smashing a fans phone. He is also currently undergoing a 6-month ban and has already paid a hefty fine worth $50,000 for the widely covered altercation with his opponent, Khabib Nurmagomedov that took place last year. After losing to the Russian via submission in the fourth round, Nurmagomedov leaped out of the octagon and attacked McGregor's entourage as a response of months of bullying and unfriendly behaviour displayed by Team McGregor towards Khabib, his coach and the rest of his squad.
  13. Ever since MS Dhoni called time on his Test career, the Indian selectors have been busy trying to fill in the void. They've tried Wriddhiman Saha who did quite an impressive job in the longest format. Then, we saw the ascension of Dinesh Karthik to the Indian team. And now, young Rishabh Pant is being looked upon as Dhoni's worthy successor behind the stumps. Amongst the available options, Dhoni, himself, had backed Pant as his potential successor when he dropped himself from the Indian squad for the Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Australia last November. For a man who considers Dhoni his idol, Pant appeared to have thrived in the limited opportunities he has got in the Indian team so far. His batting prowess surely makes him a valuable addition to the Indian team down the order. But, sadly, the same can't be said about his wicket-keeping skills. At the age of just 21, Pant is still young and continues to learn the art of wicket-keeping. However, with the ICC World Cup around the corner, the margin for error is very low for the youngster. © AP While many have advocated Pant's case in the recent past, the 4th One-Day International (ODI) between India and Australia gave a stark reminder why he is still a work in progress as far as wicket-keeping is concerned. The clash in Mohali saw India losing, what is being deemed as an unlosable game, as Australia chased down the fifth-highest target (359 runs) in ODI cricket. From misreading the conditions to missing key chances, there were a flurry of mistakes Indian cricket team find themselves pondering over as Aussies fought back from being 0-2 to 2-2 in the five-match series. While Kedar Jadhav missed a tough chance at deep midwicket in the 47th over, Shikhar Dhawan put down an absolute dolly at mid-off in the same over. However, amongst the lost opportunities, Pant's blunders were arguably the ones that ended up hurting India's chances the most at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium. In the 39th over, Peter Handscomb had already notched up his maiden ODI hundred and was eager to take the momentum away from India when he decided to step out of the crease, looking for a big shot. Realising Handscomb's intentions, Kuldeep Yadav shortened his length and ensured the batsman missed the ball. But, it was Pant's inability to collect the ball cleanly to effect the stumping that gave a crucial lifeline to Handscomb as Kuldeep and a packed Mohali stadium watched in disbelief. Pant's mistakes...!! pic.twitter.com/qyo9Kpkdox — Vidshots (@Vidshots1) March 10, 2019 But, it was the 44th over that left the Indian team, owing to Pant's blunders, completely red-faced. The first delivery of Yuzvendra Chahal's over saw Pant fluffing another stumping opportunity that could've surely sent dangerous-looking Turner back into the hut. Disheartened by the lost chance, Chahal bowled the third delivery right into the blockhole as Alex Carey just about managed to squeeze it away from the stumps. But, Pant's effort to pull-off Dhoni's 'No Look' throw converted a dot ball into a single. Watch the Mahi magic on loop #INDvNZ https://t.co/btMoJF0xC3 — BCCI (@BCCI) October 26, 2016 The fourth delivery of the same over saw Turner charging down the track only to get beaten wide outside the off-stump. Making amends for his mistake, Pant successfully managed to grab the ball this time around and jumped in appeal for a potential caught behind dismissal. Pant's confidence that the Aussie had edged the ball convinced Virat Kohli to review and even as the replays showed a noticeable spike on 'Ultra-Edge', the third umpire deemed it not out and called for a wide. While Pant should hardly be blamed for the last opportunity as there was actually a spike in replays, the other three blunders undoubtedly proved costly for his team's chances to win the game and seal the series. Though Pant is still young and needs time to establish himself as India's go-to wicket-keeper, the left-hander must learn to work on his strengths rather than copying Dhoni's artistry with the gloves. © AP In the two stumping opportunities he missed, Pant was so eager to whip the bails off that he almost forgot to collect it in the first place. Dhoni's lightening quick glovework is a technique derived through impeccable hand-eye coordination, developed over years of hard work. Similarly, when Pant tried to pull off Dhoni's 'No Look' throw, he looked very casual - something that further evoked a strong reaction from his captain on the field. It's one thing to idolise someone, but, to become like them, is an uphill battle that takes time. Pant might have pulled off Dhoni's unorthodox style of wicket-keeping a million times in the practice sessions. But if you can't do it correctly in crunch situations during a key clash, then, the wise thing would be to stick to the basics, rather than being flamboyant - a lesson Pant must learn to live up to his billing as Dhoni's successor behind the stumps.

Bollywood is also not behind, and people are already planning to make movies about him. But, some people have also decided to cash in on his popularity in the worst way. Turns out, a lot of fake accounts with his name sprung up online soon after his release and well, it's not him, folks! 16. February seems like a dreaded month. The month of love. Dreaded, if you have no one to share it with, and the most fabulous one if you are in love. Being single is never a piece of cake, is it? Especially around Valentine's Day which seems to be growing grander, as if on steroids, with each passing year. via GIPHY Somehow, with each year that goes by, the definition of being single is changing and evolving. It is no longer that sequestered thing, a fact to be hidden away, a status to shy away from, a shameful condition. But is it as good as it looks? We are in the 21st century, the world is constantly altering, yet people still seem to have a terrible problem with someone who is single. via GIPHY If we look closely, being single in 2019 is better than doing so in say 2009, but the stigma attached to it is still a long way from being completely eliminated. According to popular perception, being in a relationship has always been the celebrated goal of one's life. © Fox Searchlight Pictures In today's whirlwind world fueled by social media, the relationships that people have seem to be just for the sake of Instagram and Facebook. It doesn't matter how much love there is, the more important factor is the number of likes and comments it gets. Apparently, in today's era, the number of likes decides your compatibility and the length of your relationship. Being in a relationship has become a fad, a status symbol, something to be flaunted or people won't believe you. It is a world where you put up a mushy, cheesy, romantic message for your current S.O. which garners a lot of social media validation and then changes once the relationship comes to an end; either the message gets erased or the name of the person in it changes. via GIPHY Has the meaning of love changed in 2019? Look around you. People hook up and break up in an instant, their relationships change more frequently than Katy Perry's hair colour. Relationships today seem to have lost their meaning; we flit from one to another like a bee collecting honey. Maybe, we just don't want to be alone. via GIPHY Today, two people know that there's a certain expiry date to the relationship. Everything does. It is a deal; you get someone to hang around with for a few days and they do the same. No matter how short or bad it might be, we are jumping from one relationship to another. Just for the sake of it. But aren't we selling ourselves short? It feels realistic to start a romance knowing that nothing lasts forever but not giving ourselves the benefit of the doubt is what is making us unhappier. © Focus Features Why can't we let ourselves be? Maybe breathe a bit before launching ourselves into a new relationship just for the sake of it. Are we really that lonely that we need constant attention from others or someone to give us a sense of approval all the time? The constant pressure to be seen with someone, to seek love from someone is enveloping our lives; when was the last time you had a conversation with yourself? via GIPHY Yes, I get it, it is one's own life, we can live it any way we want but shouldn't we stop and ponder a bit on whether that is how we are living it or is it the way someone else wants us to live it? A “Couple” Thoughts! “How are you still single?” Heard it somewhere, haven't you? © Pinterest Being single is a choice. It is as simple as that. By your own choice. © Universal Pictures Chances are that if you have been single for a long time, you must have heard whispers all around you; mellow ones which hush when you appear, louder ones which are blatant and acerbic and are mostly from people you know. Sometimes, the people closest to you can hurt you; your relatives with their constant hankering and hounding about your personal life, that best friend who unintentionally judges you, or that friend who changed once they got into a relationship. You must have observed it in your friends. Once a person begins to lead a “couple” life, their opinion about single people completely changes. We all know “that couple” who believes that marriage and kids put them on a pedestal; a higher one than people who are not engaged with someone. via GIPHY There are all sorts of people out there. Over the years, I have come across a lot of people and I, being the organizer that I am, have categorized the couples into three groups: 1. The Power Couple: I have a lot of friends who are in a relationship; some slyly let that fact rub into other people's faces. via GIPHY If one is happy being a couple, it's fantastic but it is hardly veracious for anyone to force one's happiness on other people who are not as fortunate as they believe they are. These “power couples” constantly crop up in your social networking feed with their numerous (way too many posts than normal) mushy romantic photos and articulate posts or just can't seem to keep their hands off each other in someone else's presence as well. My advice: a) Get a room; b) tell me the name of your Internet service provider ( because posting cutesy stuff from remote areas is a feat in itself) Love, like air, is a feeling; not seen or heard but felt with the heart. 2. The No-Nonsense Couple: Just like everything else, people also come in good and bad. I know a lot of couples who are the best people I have ever met. Unlike the prior set, they do not judge you for not having a significant other and are not coercing other single people to get married or rush into a relationship just for the sake of it. The goodness of their hearts doesn't need the constant validation of other people or social media. Nor does their love. via GIPHY 3. The Do-Gooder Couple: Which brings me to those couples who think it to be their personal Hercules' Labor to find someone for their single friend. They keep on telling you how fabulous and marvellous it is to be in a relationship; to be able to share your life with someone you love. via GIPHY Guess what? We'll figure it out. Whether one needs to be in a relationship or not is a decision only one can make, so thank you for all the help and all your good intentions but we would love it if you channelled your goodwill somewhere where it is actually needed like saving the rain-forests or conserving water. :P This patronizing just makes you annoying. If these couples did this out of the fondness for a single person, it wouldn't be a problem, but they do it to feel good about themselves. The Present Dear Single People, When was the last time you received a present from someone? Just like that, out of the blue. Still thinking, right? Other than your birthday, a person who is single never gets any presents or gifts. What about the money you spend on the gifts for other people: on someone's bridal shower, bachelor party, birthday, wedding, engagement, the list goes on? What does a person who is single get from other people? Quick math. Just do a round-up of the gifts you have bought for a friend; a friend who you won't meet often or one who won't return the gesture by being gracious enough to apologize for a mistake. Surprised? via GIPHY We all spend a lot of money just to be cordial and be in tune with the societal norms. We don't get a gift for celebrating all the right choices we have made, do we? No one gives you a present for being a good friend or a wise advisor or not falling for the wrong person. (And you shouldn't expect it as well.) I know, calculating the amount of money you spent on gifts is an abomination. Ah, so materialistic! No one asks you to pay a certain amount for giving away presents but still, gifting being the social convention, we adhere to it. And to be completely honest, who doesn't like receiving presents? But isn't it being pragmatic, to see how much you have spent on a person and will that person return the favour? We all do this, don't we? We gift people things but hardly ever do we estimate the cost of the gift. I do not say that we need to give over-the-top gifts to everyone, but we should factor in the relationship we have with the person. It may sound wrong, but in the long run, it helps. Why be disheartened by giving a person something of value and get nothing in return? Would you give away a part of your body to someone for free? Judge-y Judgerson! For a society which takes years together to give out a fair verdict on cases, we don't take more than a jiffy to judge someone and the choices they make. We all judge other people, all the time. I do, you do, we all do. It is human nature. The people who say that they don't judge anyone are lying (because they judge you for judging someone else :P). People will judge you no matter what you do. Single? Judging you! via GIPHY Committed? Judging you! via GIPHY Married? Judging you! via GIPHY Marriage or getting into a relationship doesn't mean getting tied down. It just means that you have found another person whom you have chosen, who understands you and respects you for the fact that you are your own person. Just like being single, having kids; getting married; being in a relationship are individual choices. None of it makes you better if you choose to do one of these. Yes, demeaning someone because of the choices they have made does make you an atrocious human being. via GIPHY Being single is completely normal. It doesn't make you desperate, nor does it make you a loser. It is just you, being you. It means you are comfortable with who you are, you do not need another person for it. The people who judge you for taking time and trying to find someone who will understand you are the ones who are driving on the wrong side of the road. Why should we have to explain and defend ourselves for not being a relationship? Single And Fabulous! I believe a fortunate few are meant to be single because they are enough for themselves. Single, after all, is just a term; a word. It depends on you how to view it: crying behind closed doors because of it or indulging yourself with happiness just because you can. via GIPHY It's surprising that the society makes you think that being single is an appalling thing, popular culture doesn't do justice to the thrill of getting to know yourself and working on yourself. Apparently, according to them, single people can only be two things: sad or desperate. © Focus Features Hardly ever are there any fictional characters which are shown to be single and content with it. Romance is mandatory. Why? Because that is what brings in the audience. © New Line Cinema The freedom which being single gives is hardly comparable to other experiences. You can sleep as long as you want, have as many crushes you want, eat what you want without guilt, and you are not answerable to anyone for the choices you make. via GIPHY What is wrong with being single? The Sun does not need anyone else to shine. The biggest challenges in your life are faced by one person; you. Celebrate who you are. No one will be around for you forever, except you. © 20th Century Fox Television We need to break the stigma of self-love. Why should someone be judged for loving themselves more than another person? Don't we have better things to look out for? via GIPHY Maybe, you will find a person who completes you later in life, but for the time being, enjoy your own company, because only we can know ourselves the best. No one is asking you to be a hermit; know yourself better before letting someone else into your life. Don't let other factors bully you into feeling guilty for being single. © Focus Features Everything takes time; breathe. The best thing about being single? No one to judge you as you proceed to eat that tub of ice-cream, chocolate sauce all slathered across your face as you watch your favorite show on Netflix. :P via GIPHY Do not fall prey to the social convention or someone else's judgement. Elizabeth Bennet did not, nor did Sheldon Cooper. And who needs another person, as long as you have got pizza. Just saying. via GIPHY P.S.: Will most certainly be judged for writing this! :P

  19. Stupid and smart, at its extremes, are the two things that co-exist on the gym floor. There will be a guy who understands strength progression and would be tracking his training, whereas the other would be stacking plates on the bar for a squat PR, where the maximum movement he will achieve is his knee moving a bit. Funnily enough, the latter guys would happily post their videos on social media with the #neweeeknewpr (LOL). Keeping such guys in mind, here are a few things you shouldn't be proud of doing at the gym: 1. Leg Press PRs © YouTube Set 1 - 2 plates each side Set 2 - Add 3 more plates Set 3 - Add 2 guys Set 4 - Just hope you don't land at the hospital Leg press is the most common exercise that gives people a false sense of strength. Mainly because they hardly have any range of motion there. Annoyingly, some trainers promote this nonsense even when they know their clients cannot handle much weight. I've written a piece on it here 2. Ab Punches © Tnation I thought this stupidity had worn off until I saw it again recently. A guy doing hanging leg raises and his gym partner punching him when his legs came down! When doing leg raises, you're working on the function of spinal flexion. Punching is plain stupid. It doesn't make any sense. Oh, but what it does is increase your chances of injury. 3. Training Away To Failure © Thinkstock Images There is consistent data that shows that regular training to failure leads to: a. Impaired recovery b. Higher risk of injury c. Lesser gains d. Lesser adaptations to training Still, you will see bros shouting 'lightweight baby' and taking every set to failure. *facepalm* 4. Being Sore After Every Workout © Pixabay This is the USP that bro-splits have. Bro-split - 1 body part a day training. Guys who train this way will do 10 exercises for a body part and be sore to even move that body part for a week. How does that training make sense? The one that makes you feel disabled? And yes, there is data that shows that even when the number of sets and reps are equated, exercising the body part 2x a week results in greater strength and hypertrophy. 5. Running Like A Maniac On The Treadmill © YouTube If your goal is to build an impressive physique, weight training has to be your bread and butter. Not cardio. Then there are those who will run marathon distances on the treadmill. By doing this, you're just hurting your joints that will impact both your gains and health long term. Enjoy running? Do it outdoors. And yes, you should not only stop being proud of these 5 ridiculous things, but try and stop doing them completely. Ever since the trailer of 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga' was released, one thing was clear that it's not going to be just another regular Bollywood love story starring Rajkummar Rao and Sonam Kapoor. Yet, people had high hopes and ever higher doubts from this movie and wondered if it will be able to do justice to the sensitive topic it was trying to highlight. © Fox Star Studios The movie finally hit the theatres today and fans are not disappointed at all. Sonam Kapoor, who plays a lesbian in the movie, has done a brilliant job and this is not a fangirl speaking. Her acting is truly impressive. So is Rajkummar Rao's, who pulls off his character with utmost brilliance. © Fox Star Studios Recently, the makers of the film hosted a special screening for their Bollywood friends and the early reviews speak volumes about the efficiency with which the storyline was handled. 21. We all, as adults, at some point, move out of our parents' house. People who are living alone will understand how stressful it gets when your parents announce their annual and sometimes sudden visit. From fake office trips to a friend's wedding to what not, people have often come up with interesting excuses to stop their parents from coming home. But, what is the wildest thing you've done to stop them? Whatever it is, it cannot top this 23-year-old guy from France who made a hoax bomb threat, just because he didn't want his parents to come home. Pexels This student's parents were coming to see him, in a flight from Lyon to Rennes in France. Reportedly, he anonymously made a hoax call regarding the bomb, which caused the flight to turn around shortly after the take-off. His parents boarded the EasyJet flight, EZY4319 on January 18. Wikimedia The public prosecutor of Rennes said in a statement, "the author of the facts has been identified." The dude has been held in custody and charged with "false news compromising the safety of an aircraft in flight." If the guy is prosecuted, he could end up facing up to five years in jail and might get slapped with a fine of 75,000 euro (Rs. 60 lakh approx.) Pexels Seriously, what was he hiding in his house or what could have possibly happened between him and his parents that he took this extreme step to stop them?
  22. The most promising time of the year is here. Isn't it? Why is it you ask? Well, it's the time people go on overdrive making resolutions. Which they know they will never keep. Ever. via GIPHY Who has not resolved to become more productive when the New Year comes in? How many times have you chided yourself for not being productive enough? “From tomorrow onwards, I WILL be more productive!”, seems like a broken record that has become your life song. via GIPHY Even after numerous tries to get up and just do it, you seem like you are failing yourself and the sense of sadness and helplessness that comes with it is indescribable. © Unsplash Do you feel like you could have done so much more in the day had you been a little more active? Productivity is not about getting a lot done in a short time, it is about completing what you started. You do not need to compromise with life in order to be productive. I can't tell you enough about the times I have tried being productive and failed miserably. Happens to everyone. Even the best of us. You are not alone. But don't give up. © Pexels Increasing productivity is similar to be training to be a Jedi; it is going to “kick you in the ass” exhausting. Once you become one, you can't go back to be your old lazy self. No pressure. Breathe. It will work out. You just need to not take so much stress about everything. I know it's easier said than done but give yourself some time. Before embarking on committing yourself to be more productive, take a step back and analyze whether you need to be more productive or not. © Pinterest Maybe, you end up setting extreme goals and when you tend to not finish them you feel that you are not productive enough. Set a realistic standard. Don't blindly follow someone else's formula. Everyone works at their own pace. Here are six-way which can help in improving your productivity. Give them a try: 1. Sleep: Yes, you read it right! Sleep! © Pinterest I can hear you laughing! via GIPHY Do one thing. Count the number of times you have abandoned a task because you were too sleepy. Too many, right? Lack of sleep leads to irritation and ultimately the wish to kill everything and everyone in sight. via GIPHY As a result, you are not able to complete the task you have planned on. Sleeping late results in waking up late, no matter hard you try. It's the reason you find yourself rushing through the day. a) Try going to sleep at the same time each night. Seems hard, I know. Herculean, even. b) Get in the maximum number of hours of sleep you can get; 6-7 hours to be ideal. Get enough sleep. c) Have a fixed sleeping pattern; try to wake up early, at the same time. You might not be able to do it every day, that is natural and obvious. Keep the distractions away: mobile phones, books, food or anything that can hinder a good night's sleep. Once your body gets attuned to the cycle, you will find yourself feeling sleepy on the dot and waking up with a clear perspective, sans moaning or whining. How will this make you productive you ask? When you are properly rested, you will feel more focused on your work and less prone to the desire of snapping at people next to you. You will see that you are able to complete the task at hand and even give some time to yourself to pursue the resolution you have made for the year. 2. Organize: You do not need to become Monica Geller (though there's nothing wrong with being too organized :P), you need to be you, but a well-organized version of you. via GIPHY There's no shame in being messy, but when that starts affecting your productivity, it is time to change it. Removing clutter from your life is an effective way of becoming productive. When the milk expires, do you throw it away or keep using it? Exactly. Remove the unnecessary things from your life, let them go; be it clothes or people. via GIPHY Declutter. If that pair of jeans doest not fit you anymore, say bye-bye to it. The hindrance we face in being organized is the fact that we find it hard to let go of things. Start small. a) Organize your daily schedule: meetings, lunch hours, time to be spent doing a particular task. Set up a few goals in a day so that you are motivated throughout the day. © Unsplash Keep it simple. Following your schedule to the T is hard, of course. Stick to it anyway. b) Start by organizing your desk. It will save a lot of time. You won't have to run around searching for stuff. © Pexels c) Make a to-do list; I know it sounds cliché but just try it. You'll find it to be helpful to have all your tasks to be done, ready and neatly available to you when required. d) Use that Organizer App on your phone. It isn't there just to enhance the beauty of your phone or eat up space on it. Download one or go old school with planners and Filofaxes. Organising doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to make things accessible. Eventually, it will save a lot of time and effort, which can be used to be more productive instead. Once you get the hang of it, you will breeze through. You will find yourself managing your time more effectively. 3. Exercise: Hit the gym. If you can't, go for a run. If that's too tiring, just go for a brisk walk. © Pexels On the off chance of sounding as preachy as a parent, laziness is not rewarding. Exercise is essential for feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. The more relaxed you feel, the more tasks you will accomplish and the happier you'll feel. © Pexels Exercise is a great motivator in itself, you make a certain goal in the gym for a certain time period. Use that same concept in life as well. Motivation is what makes productivity complete. Devote at least 30-45 minutes in your day to any form of workout, whatever floats your boat. Here when point no. 1 comes into play. The earlier you wake up, the more time you get. Bonus? You look great and will remain fit! via GIPHY 4. Stop Comparing, Start Identifying: Just don't do it. Comparing your goals to someone else's is a recipe for disaster. It will only lead to self-loathing and a loss of confidence. via GIPHY Comparing or feeling jealous is a common thing to do; it is how the human brain is wired. You need to realize what works best for you. Pace yourself. Think of food choices, for instance, it is not necessary that another person has the exact palette as yours. © Pexels Similarly, comparing your productivity to another person's won't give you satisfaction, but instead, it will throw you down the rabbit hole of feeling unaccomplished. a) Instead, identify what eats away your time. What are your time robbers? Is it sleeping too long or spending too much time on the phone? b) Try to utilize the time you already have and do not realize, like the time you have while commuting. Read your emails, catch up with texts on the commute if that takes a long time. c) Work on yourself and identify what makes you lose time and drive. If a certain concept works for your friend, doesn't mean it'll surely work for you too. d) Make a not-to-do list, just like you make a to-do list; enlist the things you plan on changing in your lifestyle, things you plan to change but never follow through. 5. Take A Break: Do not overwhelm yourself. Taking too much stress about the smallest of things leads you to become anxious and fidgety. via GIPHY Daydreaming and overthinking don't solve problems, do they? If they did, we would all be millionaires. Overworking yourself will obviously make you tired and snarky and make you angrier. Trying to do everything at once and killing yourself in the process doesn't increase your productivity, rather it is counterproductive. © Unsplash Multi-tasking is all fun and games until you lose your mettle trying to meet every expectation. Once in a while, let go of your phone and other gadgets and sit quietly to reflect. Use that as a time for yourself; read a book, cook something. Do things that make you happy. © Pexels Switch off your phone for an hour, let the tensions of the office melt away. Collect yourself and you will find yourself rested and be able to focus on things that actually need your attention. FOMO: Fear of Missing Out can become FOMO: Fun of Missing Out, if you want it. You don't always have to be everywhere, rush everything. Everything isn't compulsory. Avoid people who make you anxious and sad, take a break from them as well. No one needs that kind of negativity in their life. Let things go when you can't control them. 6. Say No: When you know that you won't be able to help, avoid taking extra responsibility. Say No. Learn to do it. © Pinterest You don't have to be rude about it. You can't make everyone happy. If they get annoyed at you, it's their problem, not yours. via GIPHY Anything that cuts into your time and makes you lose productive hours is not healthy. Stop being the ever-dependable “Yes” guy, a little “no” never hurt anyone. via GIPHY It may seem selfish, but if you don't have the time, do not say yes. You will find that it makes you feel calmer and serene. In order to be good, you do not need to be a pushover. Remember that. So, ready to try out one of these ways? Becoming productive is not a miracle, it doesn't happen overnight. You need to work for it, dedicate yourself to the process and you won't even realize when you became that productive person you idolized. Hoping these tips work for you! All the best! Have the most productive year ahead!
  23. After rain washed out the morning session on the final day, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, Viral Kohli and Co. finally defeated Australia by 137 runs and got closer to winning the four-match series with a lead of 2-1. The 2-1 lead has ensured that India will retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and Kohli has said that the team will go all out to win the final match, which will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Twitter/ BCCI This victory was also special because it was India's 150th Test and nearly 37 years ago, the team won a Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, after Sunil Gavaskar's men defeated Greg Chappell's team in the 1980-81 series. 24. Imagine living in a world devoid of the many alphabets and symbols that make up your mother tongue. A world where a,b,c or the Hindi varnmala cease to exist and one syllabic sound replaces the loaded words of our rich vocabulary. Yeah, it would be like the times of our most dated ancestors, who got through life one sign language at a time. Now that doesn't sound like much, does it? There is so much to be said, discussed and communicated on a daily basis, that spending our days pointing at stuff and making sounds in the hopes that the other person would magically read our thoughts, would hardly help to get things done. via GIPHY A language might not be the basic necessity of life, but it is something that was once feared even by the Gods, if the story of the Tower of Babel in the Book of Genesis is to be believed. No wonder it is said to be the greatest boon known to mankind, as every community on the face of this earth marvels and prides itself on the language it uses to communicate with its peers and get things done in life! And things were going exactly according to plan, until the English-speaking 'whites' came wielding the ropes of colonisation. Suddenly, English gained prominence and people were forced to learn, use and adapt it, for the benefit of the colonisers. Today, colonisers might have left, but the white man's burden has found a new home in the minds of the people living in these former colonies. Like they say, “angrez chale gaye, angrezi chhor gaye”. A recent proof of this hangover was witnessed on the global platform of Miss Universe pageant this year. A few days ago, Miss USA made certain comments about two fellow contestants' English-speaking capabilities in a live Instagram video. View this post on Instagram Regina George, is that you? This is basically like the most dramatic reality show, but condensed into 1 minute lol. @sarahrosesummers hopefully will prove that ignorance will not win you a @missuniverse title...whatever that means these days. This is basically what normalized xenophobia looks like. If she's trying to show empathy, the condescending, intolerant tone tells a different story. Post the virtual uproar over the matter, Summers took to Instagram to make her position clear and apologised for having hurt people's feelings 'unintentionally'. View this post on Instagram @MissUniverse is an opportunity for women from around the world to learn about each other's cultures, life experiences, and views. We all come from different backgrounds and can grow alongside one another. In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize. My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman. I would never intend to hurt another. I am grateful for opportunities to speak with Nat, Miss Cambodia, and H'Hen, Miss Vietnam, directly about this experience. These are the moments that matter most to me. A post shared by Sarah Rose Summers (@sarahrosesummers) on Dec 13, 2018 at 9:41am PST Though Miss Vietnam and Miss Cambodia have come in support of Summers stating that she didn't mean any harm by her comments, many are looking at the incident as an underlying leftover of the white supremacy, which extends beyond the colour of one's skin. Language was developed for the purpose of communication, but incidents such as this one remind us of the superiority that the English language has come to enjoy over the years. Why even look at the West when we have ample amount of incidents to quote here in India? Before we go around bashing and shaming the Miss Universe contestants in question, can we please take a moment to consider the number of times we have judged another person for their inefficiency to converse in fluent English, or for having a desi accent to it when they speak? Before we point fingers, let us remember the number of times we have witnessed a person's calibre being judged on the basis of how “English” his/her persona is, how “polished” their manners are and how confidently they make their way around a discussion/presentation given in English. @MissUniverse i wonder if you will still allow Miss USA, Columbia, and Australia to continue in the competition after their racist/ bigoted remarks toward fellow contestant Miss Cambodia. I can't believe these ladies will be repersenting their countries! — Damien D.L. Johnson (@Il_Malandrino) December 13, 2018 This incident is a gentle reminder and a prime example of how not to treat those who may not be very great/confident with the English language. Because English is just another language like the 1621 languages spoken in India or the 6500 languages spoken around the world. So, let us not treat the non-English speakers with contempt, for not knowing the colonizer's language or holding on to their own. English isn't the superior language of the lot, so let's not try to turn it into one. Not being well-versed in English shouldn't turn anyone into a laughing stock. It should be as normal as saying one prefers to have coffee over tea or vice versa. Don't you agree?
  25. The fitness industry, even today, is filled with myths and claims that are outright misinformed and misleading. These myths circulate quite easily and thus, make people believe in the baseless claims and follow them quite easily. In this piece, we will bust some of the top fitness myths you may have heard: 1. High Protein Diets Harm Your Kidneys © YouTube The general notion among people is that if you eat a lot of protein, it will hurt your kidneys. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) for protein as a macronutrient is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight and if you look at the pie structure of a diet, it usually accounts for as little as 15% of total daily calories. But, a study was done by Dr. Jose Antonio, CEO of the ISSN taking male bodybuilders and they were kept on a very high protein diet of around 3.3 grams per kilogram of body weight. That is four times that of the RDA. The study found that the high protein diets had no harmful effects on the subjects' kidneys, liver, or even their blood lipids. 2. High Protein Diets Reduce Bone Density By Leeching Calcium From Bones © Thinkstock Another popular one is that higher protein intake is harmful to the bones. In another study by Dr. Jose Antonio, they took women who consumed a high protein diet of 2.5 to 3.0 grams of protein per body weight for a period of six months. Again, that was three to four times the RDA. The results showed that there was no decrease in bone mineral density. Quite contrasting, the data suggested that a higher protein diet in women may increase their lumbar bone mineral density. 3. Muscle Soreness Is Caused Due To Lactic Acid Build Up © Medium Delayed onset of muscle soreness or DOMS is the reason you are nearly in tears and cannot move your body the next day after an intense workout. The potential reasoning given for this is the build-up of lactate leading to soreness. Studies have found that it is not the build-up of lactate causing this and rather it is the micro tears in your muscle fibres that are induced by new stimulus or eccentric loading aka negatives. Lactate isn't a metabolic poison and it doesn't cause soreness. In fact, it's a fuel source used by your heart, brain, muscles, and kidneys. So, the next time a massage therapist says that they can help you deal with your DOMS by massaging out the lactate, that is clearly not the case. 4. There Is A 'Best' Diet For Fat Loss © Pixabay There is often a heated debate among sections. One suggesting that lower-carb and higher-fat diets are the best for fat loss. Another one suggesting lower-fat higher-carb diets being the best for fat loss. What is true? None of them is the best. When the diets are compared keeping the protein and the caloric deficit the same, both the diets match in terms of total fat loss. There is no single 'best' way to diet and it comes down to a caloric deficit. The best diet for fat loss is the one an individual can be consistent with. 5. Creatine Causes Dehydration & Cramps There is a notion that if you supplement creatine, it will lead to dehydration and cause cramps, thereby hurting your health. A study was done where there were two groups, one who did not supplement with creatine and another who did.
