Blame it on stupid, world-renowned myths or theories—men with dark skin overthink before dressing. As a result, waste a lot of time (hence, end up running late) and sometimes, even arrive upon absolutely wrong results. Truth of the matter is, there's a whole bunch of 'em who're unsure of 'what to wear'. Especially when it comes to romping with the colour wheel. But however happier this makes you now, we're here to solve the mystery for you. If you're anyway close to the Indian skin tone or in convention, a little dark (or more than little)—here are 5 colour combos that'll seal the deal for you.
1. Mustard + WhiteFacebook/Dev Patel
For starters, come what may, know that you can't appear darker than what you already are (hope you agree). So, to cut the story shorter: the combo of a warm colour like mustard + neutrals like white (or grey/black too) will do exactly that for you. That said, feel free to add pop colour accents in the form of accessories.
2. Maroon + Black©Nappa Valley Film Festival
Rule 1 of appropriate-dressing for dark skin tones is to avoid visual contrast. Unless of course, that's the look you're eyeing. Hence, another great route to turn to is a dark shade + black. While the primary-black will set base for your outfit (without disturbing your skin tone), a dark (but warm) colour like maroon will brighten it up, without creating contrast. Easy swipe.
3. Pink + Grey©Giorgio Armani
In general, pastel/sorbet colours radiate a natural glow on any skin tone. That's exactly what hues of pink will do for you. Keep it's pairing neutral with a tried-and-tested safe bet (such as grey). And regardless of how dark you are, this marriage will take you a long mile.
4. Black + White©Times Of India
Whatever said and done, there's nothing replacing the sanctity of B&W. While it's best to pair to anything stark with classic neutrals, pitting a neutral with a neutral is an even better bet. Safe, dapper and will always come handy.
5. Blue + More Blues©Just Jared
Before it's too late, fact: cool colours are absolute goldmine for dark skin tones. And when topped off with another version of a cool colour, there's no looking back. Dev Patel might be looking like a homeless wreck here, but on any given day, blue (in your favourite hue for any goddamn day) will babysit your skin into looking it's best. In fact, you might just appear more radiant, you see.
