ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said that they never spoke against the Supreme Court and the judges, adding that discussions are held on reservations over court verdicts.
Speaking on Geo News' program 'Capital Talk', Chaudhry said that in case of an objection over a court verdict an appeal is filed in a higher court. "The case was about Panama Papers leaks and [Nawaz Sharif] was disqualified on the basis of Iqama (employment contract)."
He was responded to by Pakistan People's Party (PPP) member Murtaza Wahab who questioned what impression it would give away if the former premier of the country speaks against an institution. "We should extremely careful when it is regarding institutions."
Chaudhry argued that a reference is filed against a person on the orders of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, yet it was ordered without an inquiry by the anti-graft body.
At this, Wahab said sweetmeats were distributed on the formation of [Panama case] joint investigation team and statements are being issued against the court verdict.
"There is no room for like and dislike in the law. Under the constitution, a person is bound to appear before the NAB, and Nawaz Sharif and his family should appear before it," the PPP leader said.
Chaudhry, however, said had they been punished under the allegations against them, then circumstances would have been different, adding, "We believe in the rule of law".
