LONDON: Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, after undergoing a successful throat cancer surgery is currently staying at son Hasan Nawaz?s home for recovery.

Kulsoom, who underwent the operation on Friday, is expected to receive chemotherapy treatment starting this week.

Doctors will decide this week when she may be able to return to Pakistan, informed sources.

Meanwhile, Sharif, who went to London to tend to his ailing wife last week, is likely to return to the country by September 10.

Last month, Kulsoom underwent medical check-ups in London, after which doctors diagnosed her with throat cancer.

Maryam Nawaz ? her daughter ? later confirmed on Twitter that her mother was diagnosed with lymphoma, the cancer of the lymph nodes.

Kulsoom left for London unexpectedly on August 17 for a medical checkup ? on the day when her nomination papers for the NA-120 constituency were accepted amid political hype.

During Kulsoom?s absence, Maryam is running her by-election campaign.

The seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court on July 28 disqualified Nawaz in the Panama Papers case over charges of concealing his salary from a Dubai-based company that he claims he never received.
