ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office said on Thursday that the sale of weapons between India and US is causing instability in the region.

FO spokesman Nafees Zakaria said in his weekly press briefing that Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif will meet his Afghan counterpart along the sidelines of the 72nd session of United Nations General Assembly in New York next week.

From the statements of [TTP terrorist] Ehsanullah Ehsan and [Indian spy] Kulbhushan Jadhav it is apparent that India is causing damage to Pakistan, the FO said.

There exist ups and downs in relations between countries said the spokesman.

The recent trips of Asif to Turkey, Iran and China were successful, said Zakaria.

The foreign minister recently concluded visits to the three countries and held important meetings.

Pakistan decided to approach regional countries after US President Donald Trump announced his controversial new policy for South Asia, which included 'anti-Pakistan' remarks.

Since then, Pakistan has gone into a diplomatic offensive, engaging regional countries that share its point of view with regards to Afghanistan.

Earlier in June, Donald Trump's administration confirmed it had given the green light to the $366 million sale of a transport carrier to India, along with a separate purchase of around 20 drones.
