A new report published by The InvestorΒ suggests that the Cupertino giant, Apple, is currently in talks with stylus manufacturers for a potential partnership. According to several sources, Apple is leaning towards a supercapacitor stylus instead of the traditional EMR models. EMR stands for electromagnetic resonance which is basically used by the Note series of smartphones by Samsung.

In order for Apple to accommodate a supercapacitor stylus, Apple will have to upgrade its A-series processors to handle handwriting support. βA supercapacitor type is cheaper to make compared to the EMR stylus. It also offers a more pen-like feel,β one of the Investor's sources said.
"Apple had to compromise on some touch performance of the latest iPhone X largely due to the less advanced chipset," one source said. The Apple Pencil currently works with iPad Pros and does an incredible job at handling handwritings.Β

There is a famous quote by Steve Jobs about styluses before the original iPhone was announced. "Who wants a stylus?" Jobs said while introducing the iPhone. "You have to get 'em, put 'em away, you lose 'em. Yuck! Nobody wants a stylus. So let's not use a stylus.β
When Jobs returned to Apple, he killed the Newton, a tablet-like device that used a stylus.
"God gave us 10 styluses. Let's not invent another," Jobs said about the project, according to Walter Isaacson's biography.
Let's not forget Jobs was discussing a smartphone that was only 3.5-inches in size at the time. Apple has since introduced a stylus for the iPad which note-takers and artists welcomed with great delight.

Samsung's Galaxy Note series comes with a stylus that is tucked away in a small compartment. The S Pen this year offers a finer point and more levels of pressure sensitivity and the same level of IP68 water resistance as the rest of the phone. We can expect Apple to adopt a similar strategy for the iPhone 8 Plus/7 Plus and for the rumoured 6.46-inch iPhone.
