HYDERABAD: Three brothers who were arrested after reportedly assaulting a polio vaccination team on Tuesday after an exchange of argument have been set free on bail.

When police produced the suspects, brothers Saeed, Shahid, Faisal, in the court of Civil and Judicial Magistrate-VI, their counsel argued for their bail.

The magistrate approved their bail at Rs15,000 each.

The three were arrested from their house in Heerabad Qureshi area of the city on Tuesday after a reported disagreement-turned-assault on a polio team.

Police officials said the incident was caused after male members of the family began arguing with the polio team that had administered vaccination drops to eligible children.

Polio officials Naveed, Kainat and Jannat claimed they had the family's permission to administer the vaccine but were assaulted by the male members as they did not want their children to take the drops.

Police had detained the brothers after the incident.

A province-wide polio immunisation campaign is under way in Sindh until Friday.

Five cases of the crippling disease were registered so far this year.

Polio cases have been on a decline in the country with 54 and 20 cases reported in the years 2015 and 2016 respectively, as opposed to 306 cases in 2014.
