ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq on Wednesday demanded the government to fulfill its promise of FATA's merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and annul the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR).
The JI emir was speaking at a press conference flanked by delegates of FATA Youth Jirgah in Islamabad.
He said they would not let the government backtrack on its promise of KP-FATA merger, reminding that even the National Action Plan (NAP) mentioned of bringing reforms to the tribal areas.
"There has been no development in FATA even after 70 years; there are no educational institutes and no court hears cases of tribal people," Haq said.
He maintained that 10 million residents of Pakistan's tribal areas are all victims of "economic and educational exploitation."
The JI chief said the FATA youths have stood up against the FCR and the tribal people want their areas merged with KP.
