In The T20 Era, This Is Arguably The Most Outrageous Innovation By A Batsman Ever
The advent of Twenty20 (T20) cricket has led to a great shift in the game. There is slam-bang action, cheerleaders (in some cases) and all-in-all it's great entertainment for the fans who had little patience for the five-day or 50-overs cricket format.
With just 20 overs at their disposal, the batsmen are given the license to go hammer and tongs at the opposition, while the bowlers are often left red-faced with the battle between bat and ball widening further. To suffice the need of scoring at brisk pace, the shot selection by the batsmen has also evolved over the years.
From Tillakeratne Dilshan's iconic scoop to AB De Villiers' unbelievable ramp shot for six, we have probably seen everything there is when it comes to cricket shots in the modern era of the game. But, just like evolution never stops, batsmen are always on their toes to find something new.
That was probably the case when a Sri Lankan batsman decided to deploy a shot from behind the stumps, not only making it extraordinary, but also absolutely ridiculous.

— Damith Weerasinghe (@Damith1994) November 20, 2017The Mercantile club match between MAS Unichela and Teejay Lanka at the P Sara Oval in Colombo witnessed the horrendous attempt at the shot that left everyone shocked and surprised. A video that is being circulated on social media shows Chamara Silva moving across and going behind the stumps even before the bowler reached his delivery stride.
And, it could have been one hell of a shot, had he connected his willow to the leather. But, as expected, the bowler pitched it up and rattled the stumps, leaving Silva and his teammates red-faced.
The attempt by Silva, who has represented Sri Lanka in 11 Tests, 75 ODIs and 16 T20Is, highlights how modern-day batsmen are rapidly becoming the butt of all jokes in a bid to meet the requirements of scoring at a brisk pace.
