  1. Rajkummar Rao is the man of the hour. He gave us some impeccable movies in 2019 and he is on a roll, we would say. It's not just his powerhouse acting that we relate to but we admire his sartorial game as well. Apart from being fashion-forward, Rajkummar is also a low-key sneakerhead. Be it his bubble sneakers or translucent boots, his shoes instantly ramp up his debonair. © Viral Bhayani © Viral Bhayani After the launch of futuristic Archlight footwear, Louis Vuitton dished out this on-trend chunky pair that's currently in rage. Now, if we speak of its price, it's truly heart-racing as these are available at $1230 on LV's website. This means that they easily cost about Rs 87,000, sans import duties and customs. Yes, let that sink in! View the full article
  2. Dramatic, over-the-top and outlandish are the three words that best describe Ranveer Singh's persona and not to mention, his fashion sense. He has a reputation for his unpredictable style that raises the eyebrows of the people on the internet. Even then, he never fails to take us by storm with ensembles that we cannot possibly imagine wearing ourselves. © Viral Bhayani At the screening of Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak, he upped his debonair in a classic blue suit and just the next day, he took an unconventional route and sported something truly spine-chilling. He carved his niche of quirky fashion yet again wearing the creepiest jacket that we have seen till date. Don't believe us? Take a good look here! © Viral Bhayani © Farfetch Ranveer is wearing The Clockwork Orange Jacket by Undercover. This piece is emblazoned with an iconic scene from the film featuring a man's face with clamps that's holding his eyes open. A quick look at it and you would see how creepy it looks. The evocative story has been well put with this photographic print. This is freaky as hell! © Viral Bhayani As far as the construction and silhouette goes, the jacket features a classic collar with front button fastening and welt details with large pockets. The price of this jacket is as spine chilling as its design, It is available on many e-commerce websites and costs a whopping Rs. 1,03,800 according to Farfetch. Yes, let that sink in. © Viral Bhayani Coming to the other details of his outfit, he is wearing a grey jeans with extra zippers, patch design and long pockets. Add to that, his chunky sneakers by Adidas elevated his airport look even more. If this is not nightmarish, we don't know what is! Well done, Ranveer, it's terrifying and yet, we are totally diggin' it. View the full article
  3. People say that you don't realise the worth of something until it's taken away from you. Most of us realise it during Navratri every year, when we don't get to eat your favourite non-vegetarian dishes. Well, you can have 100 problems in your life, but thanks to one guy you will now have to solve only 99 of them. The guy is Anand Mahindra and he's not exactly a problem solver but his Twitter account sure is, where he shared this brilliant solution to our food woes. Anand Mahindra has a knack for finding the funniest, unique and sometimes the most absurd things happening around the world and, thanks to him, we came across this one-in-a-million pure-vegetarian restaurant. So, what's so special about it, right? This restaurant serves everything 'veg', including veg fish fry, veg chicken rice and veg mutton dosa. An example of how Incredible India really is. For millennia we have known how to harness the power of mind over matter. Veg, Non-Veg, what's the difference? It's all in the mind...ð pic.twitter.com/U1x1LEvij6 — anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) January 5, 2020 Anand Mahindra posted a picture on his Twitter account and wrote, "An example of how Incredible India really is. For millennia we have known how to harness the power of mind over matter. Veg, Non-Veg, what's the difference? It's all in the mind." Why didn't we ever think of this - add veg in front of every dish and it's not non-veg anymore. Problem solved! People on the internet can't get enough of this hack and these tweets are proof of the same. 4. The 77th Golden Globe Awards just took place in Hollywood and we weren't shocked with the results. Well, at least not where Joaquin Phoenix was concerned! The actor won a Golden Globe for best actor in a motion picture drama for his role as a troubled Arthur Fleck in Joker. While winning the award is one thing, giving one hell of an acceptance speech is another and that's exactly what Phoenix ended up doing at the Beverly Hills Hotel. After acknowledging his fellow nominees in his speech, Phoenix, who has never been keen on award shows as such said- "There is no F***ing best actor". © Twitter He also went on to thank Todd Philips, the writer and director of Joker and also said, "I'm such a pain in the ass, I cannot believe you put up with me.” in his speech. Even though a lot of his speech was bleeped while he was on stage (since he used a lot of 'F-word'), he nailed the way he delivered every aspect of it. The words chosen and the sentiments behind those words, everything was appreciated not just by the audience present there but by the Twitter world as well. "Contrary to popular belief I don't want to rock the boat. The boat is fucking rocked," is one of the things he said. Phoenix even talked about climate change where he thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for its meat-free meal, while stating "recognizing and acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change. It's a very bold move, making tonight plant-based,” "We don't have to take private jets to Palm Springs ... I'll try to do better, and I hope you will too." the vegan actor added. © warner Bros Pictures Not only did Phoenix think the awards are quite useless in general, he also talked about social issues everyone should be concentrating on currently. And he did all this while still celebrating the work of his fellow nominees. Quite an actor, if I may say so myself! Obviously the Twitter fraternity lauded his speech and praised it to no extent! Joaquin Phoenix calling out the bullshit of Awards Season and celebrating the work of his fellow nominees! Plus he breaks down while acknowledging Rooney Mara... THIS IS WHY WE LOVE HIM!!!!!! #GoldenGlobes #FilmTwitter pic.twitter.com/kNWfh1IRj5 — Matt Neglia (@NextBestPicture) January 6, 2020 Joaquin Phoenix is giving no **** in his speech and I'm living!#GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/bYBtNDvJjd — Miguel Parpadeos (@miguelparpadeos) January 6, 2020 Joaquin Phoenix, maybe the actor of his generation, calls out Hollywood, on live television, for using private jets, but then gets cut off by the orchestra. This is why I hate the Globes. — Jordan Ruimy (@mrRuimy) January 6, 2020 Some people weren't truly pleased with his speech. Joaquin Phoenix has officially won the Golden Globe for Best Actor (Drama) for JOKER. I want to fucking cry. Heath Ledger would be so incredibly proud tonight. Easily the most acclaimed & beloved lead performance of the year. This is Joaquin's Oscar to win. #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/p0YtVzr2o9 — Jesabel (@JesabelRaay) January 6, 2020 Joaquin Phoenix is coming for that Oscar. pic.twitter.com/rK5lNlyiEE — Films to Films (@FilmstoFilms_) January 6, 2020 While his speech got a lot of love and hate, we're more concerned about what he's going to come out with in 2020 and whatever it is, we hope it's as good as his role as Arthur Fleck in Joker. 5. The tuna was caught off northern Aomori Prefecture and weighed 276 kilograms (608 lbs)TOKYO: A bluefin tuna sold for 193.2 million yen ($1.8 million) in the first auction of the new year at Tokyo’s Toyosu fish market, the second highest price on record, NHK broadcaster reported. The tuna was caught off northern Aomori Prefecture and weighed 276 kilograms (608 lbs), according to NHK, which translates into a price of about 700,000 yen per kilogram. The successful bidder was Kiyoshi Kimura, the head of the company that runs sushi restaurant chain “Sushizanmai,” NHK said. Last year Kimura paid a record 333.6 million yen for a tuna at the auction, exceeding his previous record price in 2013.
  6. Photo: AFPPARIS: Paris Opera has lost more than 12 million euros (13.3 million dollars) in a month-long strike by ballet dancers fighting to cling onto pension rights that date back to the "Sun King" Louis XIV. The opera -- one of the oldest and most prestigious in the world -- confirmed to AFP that the dispute is now the costliest in its history, with 63 ballet and opera performances cancelled since dancers walked out on December 5. Technical and backstage staff have joined them on the picket lines as part of a wider clash over French government pension reforms that has paralysed the country's public transport system for nearly four weeks. While the opera has seen plenty of strikes by stagehands, it is almost unheard of to have dancers downing tutus. Their decision to take to the streets for the first time in the opera's 350-year existence made international headlines. The month of transport disruption caused by the general strikes has also been a disaster for French theatres and concert halls with scores of shows cancelled and actors playing to almost empty houses on what should be the busiest nights of the year. With the opera warning that the lost box office takings have already sunk a huge hole in its budget, France's culture ministry told AFP that "talks are going on with the management and the staff" to resolve the standoff that wiped out its usually crowded Christmas programme. Ancient rightsIn a bid to win back the hearts of frustrated fans, the striking dancers gave a free performance of parts of "Swan Lake" on the steps of the Opera Garnier in the centre of the French capital on Christmas Eve. But that has not stopped them digging in their heels, determined to hold onto a unique system which allows them to retire at 42. Its origins date to the 17th century and Louis XIV, a mean dancer himself who knew the crippling toll performing at the highest level can take on dancers'bodies. Dancers have already rejected a watered down proposal that would have the change only affect those who joined the ballet after 2021. A former director of the opera warned that this row was different. Most strikes have been about "pay or working conditions and have never generally lasted longer than a few days," said the ex-director, who did not want to be named. "We have to avoid a systematic blockage and keep dialogue going," he insisted. Fears for future"We have to come up with a retirement system which involves helping them retrain because a lot of dancers get into great difficulty" after retiring, having sacrificed most of their lives to the ballet, he told AFP. Almost all come through the ballet's training school as children. As it stands, the French state picks up half the bill for the opera's 14-million-euro pension fund, which has nearly 1,900 members. But with losses piling up, the opera's outgoing director Stephane Lissner is worried about the coffers being drained for future productions. In an internal letter seen by AFP, he warned that the strike is "affecting our relations with the public". The opera later told AFP that it will be "making a number of gestures to audiences" to make up for the cancellations. Even so, rehearsals are still going on for upcoming productions, with the French baritone Florian Sempey tweeting that he was looking forward to appearing in the "Barber of Seville" and star dancer Hugo Marchand sharing a video of himself limbering up for "Giselle". The last major strike at the Paris Opera in 2007 led to the cancellation of 17 performances, costing the institution 3.2 million euros. The same year Dorothee Gilbert was named principal dancer after a memorable strike-hit performance of "The Nutcracker" done without costumes or a change of decor.
  7. 2020 should be the year of firsts. I mean, it's the actual end of a decade and the beginning of a brand new one, so if you add things you've never accomplished before, to the 2020 list, there is a possibility of absolute success. Well TBH, I am not sure about that but there's no harm in being thoroughly optimistic, is there? © Thinkstock In the same vein, if you've been searching for love and haven't found it yet, there's a good chance that you can find it in the new year. Letting go of old dating patterns and finding new ones is the best thing to do, to shed some negativity where love is concerned and you can only do that, if you truly believe you will find it. We can help you a little more in recognising and knowing what you need to do to find brand new live in 2020, or fall in love for the first time in an absolutely new decade. Here are 3 ways you can find love in 2020! (1) Make Sure You're Ready To Date While heartbreaks are synonymous with bringing in the new year, you have to know for certain if you're ready and willing to date someone new. If you're not, that's alright too, take your time. Sometimes a bad break up or the fact that you're still stuck in the single's haze can make you realise you're not ready to move on with anyone at all. So, weigh your feelings and if you're ready to date, put yourself out in the market. © MENSXP (2) Get Off The Apps Sure you can still use apps to find that significant other. That's the only way to find someone these days, TBH. But if you want to explore this a little further, maybe finding someone organically can be better. Be more social in your endeavours, head out more and meet people. Not just at bars, but at social gatherings, festivals, events and things that happen around the city. Chances are you might meet someone with similar interests. © Youtube (3) Declutter Your Surroundings Since it's the new year and possibly the new you, start by decluttering everything around you. Things you don't need, things that are lying around gathering dust. This is an important exercise to make space not just in your immediate surrounding but also your mind and the emotional space, inside. If you have to welcome someone new into your life, it's best to declutter the past or any other emotional baggage you've been holding onto. Cleaning your immediate surrounding and decluttering your space can help a great deal with this. © Thinkstock While 2020 comes with a lot of promises, it's also a challenging decade. Finding love should be one such challenge because honestly, it's time we go back to finding love organically, in a more old-school way, only because it lasts longer. So, here's conjuring a boatload of luck for you to find the love you need in the year 2020. View the full article
  8. There is no dearth of talent in India and anyone who knows or has heard about P Kunhikrishnan's skills, can vouch for the same. Kunhikrishnan is currently the Director of U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Bengaluru and reportedly played a key role as Project Director of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) project from June 1, 2010 to March 31, 2015. But, that's not why we're talking about him. We're talking about him because he's also a professional flute player. Recently, the Parliamentary Standing Committee held its last meeting of the year at ISRO and to end it on a beautiful note, he played flute at the meeting. His musical performance was shared by Jairam Ramesh on social media with the caption, "The Parliamentary Standing Committee ended its last meeting at ISRO with a flute performance by the Director of its Satellite Centre in Bengaluru, P. Kunhikrishnan, who is also a professional flute player! He played the evergreen Vatapi Ganapatim Bhaje." 9. As a 28-year-old man about to build a Lego set the box of which says 'Age 9+', I told myself the same thing I'd been telling everyone else for years as far as Harry Potter is concerned: "This is not for kids." My firm belief was reiterated once I opened the box and saw the contents inside. Nope, no way can a 9-year-old finish building this monstrosity, I told myself. © MensXP It was the biggest puzzle I'd ever seen in my life. To make things more exciting (and terrifying), this puzzle was 3D. Once I saw the actual Lego bricks and the instruction manual, I felt what Hermione probably felt before her OWLs - a strange mix of elation and anxiety. As much as I wanted to do it all by myself, I realized I probably will end up building it till the next morning and end up missing work. I did what a Dilli Ka Launda would inevitably do during a crisis - called up my homies. © MensXP As four of us finally sat down with a mission, it became evident that I was right. Just like non-Potterheads mock the Potterverse with jibes like 'How is a grown man like you still stuck on to Harry Potter?', while being absolutely clueless about the intricacies of the series that are anything but juvenile in nature, what lay in front of us was a full-blown project, that only intellect and focus could have carried through to completion. (Yes, the manual had explicit instructions, what's your point?) © MensXP We started out by building the characters. There were eight characters, and this particular set was based on the Goblet of Fire narrative. We had Dumbledore and the trio, Madame Maxime, Cedric Diggory, Viktor Krum, and Fleur Delacour. © MensXP We did have some unfortunate mixups that left us in splits, but we did manage to get them all out flawlessly. Interestingly, all of them had two faces - one happy and one sad that could be rotated (an irony how Professor Quirrell wasn't a part of the set tbh). © MensXP The attention to detail in the set, in all its minuscule cuteness, was astounding, to say the least. The smallest of the tables had about 20-25 parts to them and took quite some time to build. © MensXP This particular set was based on the Hogwarts Clock Tower, and every nook and corner had so many parts to them, that we ended up feeling like the founders themselves. © MensXP © MensXP The backside of the castle was open, and it contained familiar locations. It consisted of multiple elements from the castle, like Dumbledore's office and the Prefects' bathroom. © MensXP As we kept building, we kept discovering the other locations - the hospital wing, the Defence Against the Dark Arts class, as well as the enclosure where the Tri-Wizard Cup was placed. © MensXP It also contained the Yule Ball dance floor that was made of gears, that rotated. The characters could be placed on them, making actual pairs out of them. © MensXP After what seemed like 3 whole hours, we finally put it all together, and this is what it looked like. © MensXP © MensXP © MensXP Honestly, this low key felt like a real trip to the Hogwarts castle, while drowning us all in nostalgia. However, this also left us with a few questions about 4 men in their early '30s deriving so much pleasure and excitement out of something that is supposedly meant for kids' entertainment. I got in touch with Lego and ended up asking them about whether adults legit make up a part of their target audience, and was thrilled to find out that I was right. "The Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOL) are also very vital for us as they are our brand ambassadors and it is our constant endeavour to bring in various pop culture collaborations like Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Bugatti etc. which play a huge role in strengthening our bond with them. We have a wide gamut of challenging themes like Creator Expert, Technic™ and LEGO Ideas, which are fast-moving amongst AFOL. We are also launching the latest range of LEGO Star Wars in late 2019, which will be another interesting and awaited range for our adult fans", I was told. © MensXP Well, let's just say we all celebrated the fact that we finally did something constructive (literally) over the weekend to help us take a walk down the memory lane inside Hogwarts, while offering a much-required breather to our livers. It was a win-win! View the full article
  10. No one could have imagined that 'breathing' would become a luxury in Delhi-NCR. Most of the Delhi-NCR areas have AQI's reaching alarming levels and, surprisingly, nobody seemed to be bothered. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the AQI of the national capital was around 467 at 7:00am on Wednesday morning. #DelhiAirEmergency: The Delhi we know is back! ð· pic.twitter.com/bHdJZIED4d — Delhi Climate Talks (@climate_delhi) November 12, 2019 Everyone is dealing with the toxic air and we shouldn't find pride in this. The usual range of air quality lies between 0-50 and Delhi's AQI stands somewhere around 301 to 400 and it falls under the category of 'very poor'. The bad situation calls for shutting down of schools and colleges and people are asking the government to take immediate action. The odd-even scheme did bring the pollution levels down but that can't be the ultimate solution. However, the scheme was relaxed on 11th and 12th November due to Guru Nanak Jayanti and it contributed to a major spike in air pollution. Im still in #Delhi, today the air quality is worst here. According to the experts, there isn't going to be immediate relief from air pollution and it might take another two days for the situation to improvise. View the full article
  11. Ayushmann Khuranna is one of the few good and most humble people in Bollywood, no one can even argue with that. He's like the whole package - a great actor doing incredible movies, and just a great wholesome person in general. Just by looking at him, you get the vibe that he's just a very nice guy who will never, ever behave like a 'celebrity' even though he's one of the top actors in the nation right now. 12. People in Delhi NCR region are living in the worst times currently as the entire city feels like a gas chamber. It has become difficult to breathe and to be outdoors without a mask isn't even an option anymore. However, the smoke and pollution have also crept into our houses, even the underground metro stations. People are gasping for fresh air in and around the city, and Air Quality Index (AQI) has touched 999 in some parts of Delhi and NCR. The air quality is deteriorating at an alarming rate. Even more than 120 hours post Diwali, the air quality is getting worse minute by minute instead of improving. AQI India, recently, shared the 24-hour time lapse video on November 3 which looks totally frightening. The video shows the visibility getting drastically reduced in comparison to the night of November 2. It seems like winter is here and the city is being covered in fog but in reality, it is only thick blanket of smog. Last 24 hours in Delhi were the worst in terms of air quality for this year. Even the odd even scheme has come into effect from today till November 15. However, there seems to be little to no improvement in the worsening air quality. AQI had also shared a time lapse of the day after Diwali, but it wasn't as bad as the one shared yesterday. Check it out. 13. At 34 years of age, Pankaj Advani has already achieved everything there is to achieve in the world of snooker. A 23-time World Champion who has an amazing hat-trick of hat-tricks in English billiards, with the World, Asian, and Indian National Championship titles simultaneously in his name in five different years, yet the man is as humble as one can be. Always the first to extend his hand for a handshake and introduce himself even though the world knows about him, one wonders where does he get his humility and meekness from? View this post on Instagram Sport is an art. The essence of art lies in its intensity! #gameface #flashbackfriday #billiards #snooker A post shared by Pankaj Advani (@pankajadvaniofficial) on Jan 25, 2019 at 2:45am PST Pankaj's story can be traced back to when he was merely a child who was stuck at the Belgrade airport with his family when the Gulf War broke out. Scared and all out of money, afraid for their lives, they somehow managed to make it back to India. However, their suffering had not ended yet as a couple of years later, Pankaj's father expired. “That's when my mom made the conscious decision of raising the two of us (Pankaj and his elder brother, Shree) instead of working. She wanted to spend more time nurturing us,” the cueist told MensXP. Every day after school, Pankaj would follow his brother and his friends back to a snooker parlour, where he'd just watch them play for hours. For the first three weeks, he didn't even touch the cue because he was short and underaged. So he sat in a corner and tried his best to understand the game. “I am really good at observing things so I'd watch my brother play and try to understand the technicalities of the game. I would notice his stance and the way he bridged,” he said. Finally, Pankaj decided to give the game a shot. He said, “I tried to implement whatever I'd observed and when I struck the ball, it went inside the pocket and then there was no looking back.” View this post on Instagram Qualified as India number 1 for the World Billiards Championship in Myanmar in November, 2018. #billiards #worldchampionship #lookingforward A post shared by Pankaj Advani (@pankajadvaniofficial) on Oct 10, 2018 at 8:26am PDT The 23x World Champion believes that he was extremely fortunate to fall in love with the game of snooker at an early age of 11 and says that even his mother was glad that it kept them away from all the distractions children go through during their teenage years. Advani also has his school Frank Anthony Public School and college Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College to thank behind such a successful career of his. “My education was taken care of. My school and college have been really supportive of my career. When we started playing it was considered to be an unconventional sport but the best part was that our school encouraged us when they saw us succeeding. I even got to miss a few exams,” he said with a smile. View this post on Instagram In 1996, as a 11 yr old kid, I saw Arvind Savur for the first time at the Karnataka State Billiards Association. Few months later, surprisingly, he came up to me and said '' Now you are ready.” I was thrilled!!! Ever since he took me under his wings, I rapidly improved my game and grew as a player. He has clearly come a long way since then. Now, he believes that if there's something that needs to be said, he would say it. “I feel like If you are holding yourself back all the time, you are living in a world of pretend,” he said. It would not be after he wins a certain number of world championships or when he reached a particular age. It will happen when he believes that he is ready to retire. 14. Hardik Pandya sure knows how to turn heads with his eccentricities and the aberrant sartorial choices he makes. From a pyjama set that's worth over one and half lakh rupees, to wearing a watch worth Rs 80 lakh, while recuperating from a surgery, still being in the hospital, the man has done it all. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 However, he is not really known for pulling off an outfit that people would consider “classy” or elegant. Sure, he was something beyond this world when he walked the ramp for designer Amit Aggarwal, but that's a different case altogether. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 Subtlety is clearly not Hardik's strong suit - that distinction goes to his elder brother, Krunal. However, this time around, Hardik changed the tune, and stepped out in one of the most elegant outfits that we have seen this year on a cricketer. In fact, we have to say, one of the classiest outfits this year, period. © Viral Bhayani Hardik attended Mukesh Ambani's Mumbai Indians' Diwali bash in a masterfully crafted bandi from Shantanu and Nikhil, and boy oh boy, did he look good. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 The bandi is masterfully designed and crafted, using an embroidered fabric with floral motifs and design. The appeal of the bandi is further accentuated with the two sets of riveted leather strips that run horizontally across the front. © Viral Bhayani The cherry on top of the sartorial cake that this ensemble is the intricately designed chained brooch that Hardik is wearing as an accessory. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 Speaking of accessories, he is again seen wearing his Patek Phillipe Nautilus Chronograph, worth Rs 80 lakh to the party. The watch, coupled with the tinted sunglasses, completed the look. © Viral Bhayani Hardik's decision to pair the bandi with a fairly simple kurta shirt, brown linen trousers and a pair of tan monk straps was a wise one. When you already have a statement piece such as the bandi, you don't really need much else to make one cracker of an ensemble. © Viral Bhayani Plus, given the eccentric manner in which Hardik usually accessorises, in this instance his watch, his jewellery and sunglasses, anything else that could potentially draw attention, would have been a tad bit too much. © Viral Bhayani All we can really say is that we're actually kind of digging this outfit. Spot on, Hardik! A great ensemble indeed.
  15. The ozone layer hole near the south pole is the smallest this year since the time it was found. However, don't pat your back yet, it's not due to cut-down on pollution but due to extreme Antarctic weather. According to NASA, this year the hole in Earth's protective ozone layer is 9.3 million square kilometers and it was 26.6 million square kilometers when it was at its peak in the year 2006. This year's hole is even smaller than when it was first discovered in 1982. © Reuters This is indeed good news but scientists at NASA warn us that it isn't good enough and the ozone layer is not completely healed. Paul Newman, chief scientist for Earth Sciences at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre in Greenbelt, Maryland said, "It's great news for ozone in the Southern Hemisphere, but it's important to recognize that what we're seeing this year is due to warmer stratospheric temperatures. It's not a sign that atmospheric ozone is suddenly on a fast track to recovery." Earth's ozone layer protects life on the surface of the Earth from harmful solar radiation, but man-made chlorine compounds create an imbalance like that, which can last in the air for 100 years and nibble at the ozone. This leads to thinning and a gap over Southern Hemisphere. © Reuters An atmospheric scientist with Universities Space Research Association, Susan Strahan said, "It's a rare event that we're still trying to understand. If the warming hadn't happened, we'd likely be looking at a much more typical ozone hole." Till the time the scientists are finding the reason behind the depletion in hole size, let's just think we got a little lucky this year.
  16. October 18 marked a pretty important day in the history of commercial aviation, as Australian airline Qantas embarked on the first test flight of Project Sunrise, which aims to establish a direct flight from Sydney to London and New York - here are some key facts behind this record-shattering attempt. It Will Break The Longest Direct Flight Record © Qantas No small feat here - Qantas is aiming to make it into the history books with this flight, which happens to cover roughly 16,200 kilometres, over 20 hours. It's so long that if you were on the aircraft, you'd have to adjust for a 15-hour difference due to time zones. The previous champion was Singapore Airlines' 18.5 hour journey from Singapore to New Jersey. The Flight Also Works As A Closely Monitored Test Environment © Qantas Naturally, any commercial airline needs to focus on the comfort, safety and health of its passengers. And as an industry first, this particular flight offers a great opportunity for Qantas to study the effects of continuous flight on both crew and passengers. As a result, the test flight will carry 40 crew members, whose movements in the cabin, eating habits and sleep schedule will be studied to prepare the flight for its planned 2022 launch. An Unusual Flight Plan © Qantas Rather than following the standard practice of serving food and dimming the lights after takeoff, Qantas plans to keep everyone awake for six hours. They'll be helped by food containing hot peppers and spices. Now that's one way to keep your crew awake and alert. “The passenger research will test alternatives to how airlines have managed in-flight service for decades,” said Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce. © Reuters The industry's traditional schedule may not be the best way to switch the body clock to the destination's time zone, he said. A Legendary Aircraft Taking On The Journey © Qantas Launched in 2011, the Boeing 787 'Dreamliner' is an aircraft that's done an incredible job of connecting the world ever since its launch. With its remarkable fuel efficiency and range, it's succeeded in helping airlines establish over 1,900 routes over the last eight years. © Qantas With a standard capacity of 296 passengers, Qantas has chosen the 787-9 variant for this test flight, but are in talks with Airbus and Boeing to adapt the A350 and 777x aircraft, as they're more commercially viable. Possible Health Risks © Steven Thompson Along with the psychological factors of being stuck in an airplane for several hours, there's some very real medical concerns for ultra-long range flyers. If stuck in your seat for too long, there's a possibility that you will develop blood clots in the veins of your legs - a condition called Deep Vein Thrombosis, or DVT. The clots formed can travel through the body and block an artery in the lungs, leading to a condition called pulmonary embolism, which can be fatal if not promptly treated. On a less serious note, there's also the prospect of the flight giving passengers the worst jet lag in human history. Thankfully, Boeing says that their cabin is pressurised to 6,000 feet rather than 8,000 feet, a move that helps reduce passenger fatigue and sleep issues. How do you think you'd handle 20 hours in an airplane? Tell us in the comments below.

  18. Here's some mid-week news that'll probably kill that dullness you all have been spiralling down into, voluntarily. Especially for those humans who can thrive on mainstream cinema like their life depends on it, because this news is like cold drinking water in the middle of a vast desert for them. The fourth instalment of Matrix is officially happening, with some old and new actors in the loop and we can't keep our cool any longer. We've all grown up watching the trilogy and if there is something to take away from the series, it's the thought-provoking pieces of sci-fi it has given us, over the last decade. © shortlist So, let's list down everything we know so far, everything we've recently found out and everything else that's left in the realms of speculation, about Matrix 4: (1) Who Is Coming Back Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the hacker Neo, in the fourth instalment, alongside another cast member, Carrie-Ann Moss, and we can't wait to watch what they have in store for us in the fourth edition. The movie will be directed by co-creator Lana Wachowski who will also write and produce the film. Given Trinity and Neo's fates at the end of the original Matrix trilogy, the sequel will need to find an intelligent way to incorporate their roles into the new story. But I guess that shouldn't be too difficult for a series that's all about virtual reality, mysticism and, of course, some massive plot twists! © Warner Bros Apart from Keanu and Carrie, we have someone else amidst us who was announced to be part of the franchise this month. TBH, he's quite legen...wait for it...dary! Yup, How I Met Your Mother and Gone Girl actor, Neil Patrick Harris has also joined the cast in an unidentified role. We're not sure what role he's been offered but it's definitely Harris's first big film. © Movieweb Apart from Harris, the film also stars Aquaman's Black Manta, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, in a significant lead role. We believe he plays the younger version of Morpheus, the role that was originally played by Lawrence Fishburne in the Matrix series. We also recently found out that Jada Pinkett Smith is in current negotiations to return to the franchise. She played the role of Niobe in parts 2 and 3, The Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions and from what we've heard, she's not done with the role. For now, we're still waiting for confirmation on this but it'll be a happy little reunion to have her back in the cast. © deadlien (2) Who Isn't Coming Back Sadly enough the OG Morpheus, aka Lawrence Fishburne, has decided he does not need more Matrix in his life and wants to sit this one out. Which also means the pivotal role of Morpheus will be recast. Wanna take any wild guesses on who, in all probability, will take up the character? Also, the original producer, Joel Silver will not be working on the new Matrix movie. We're really bummed about Fishburne's absence though. © Warner Bros (3) What's The Plot? “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Lana Wachowski said in the official announcement at a press conference. © Warner Bros Well, to make the theme more relevant for Matrix 4, whatever has happened in the past twenty years is under consideration or at least there is a slight flashback mention of the events that occurred in the earlier series. So far, we know that the main Matrix theme is definitely back and in some way, it paraphrases the other revolutionary franchise, John Wick, with changing political landscapes and digital existences. Also, Reddit has come with a rather interesting theory and you should give it a read. (4) When Is It Releasing? The release date hasn't been announced for the next Matrix instalment but it's definitely not too far off since the production of the film will begin somewhere early 2020. So far, we're not sure if the other Wachowski sibling be involved in Matrix 4, although Warner Brothers seem to think the franchise is safe in Lana's hands. © NBCNews “We could not be more excited to be reentering The Matrix with Lana. She is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing, and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.” - said Warner Bros Picture Group Chairman, Toby Emmerich in an interview. © Warner Bros While we thought the curtains had closed on the entire Matrix franchise, we're so glad we get to see a lot more from the same universe, something every virtual geek will be really looking forward to! Here's waiting with bated breath for one of the best sci-fi movies out there.
  19. When it comes to men's accessories, watches win the race hands down, and rightfully so. They no longer just serve as devices that tell you the time, but have transformed themselves into indicators of one's 'woke'-ness, when it comes to fashion consciousness. While the market is saturated with thousands of choices, the only way to steal the limelight is choosing something that is unapologetically conspicuous, while not compromising on the sophistication scale. One brand that has decoded the formula of arriving at that perfect balance, is Swatch. When Swatch launched its 'Big Bold' collection, watch enthusiasts were blessed with a line that not only was extremely fashionable, but also boasted of a rare aesthetic that was phenomenally playful. (c) Swatch (c) Swatch Armed with a massive Ø47mm watch head covered with a slightly curved glass, the Big Bold Collection stays true to what it promised. (c) Swatch (c) Swatch Encouraged by the utterly positive response, Swatch decided to collaborate with one of the leading fashion labels in the world, 'A Bathing Ape', commonly known as 'Bape'. What came out of the collab is functionally one of the coolest things that we have witnessed. (c) MensXP SwatchXBape resulted in one of the funkiest watches the world has seen - 'Big Bold Bape The World Watch'. The pre-launch global event for that was organised on the 31st of May in Tokyo. All six models feature a newly designed signature BAPE® camo pattern as well as the Ape Head logo on the hour hand and the lower strap, while the enhanced Swatch logo is invocative of the watchmaker's debut in the 1980s. The five city watches are numbered and limited to either 983 or 1993 pieces, paying tribute to each brand's respective birth year. Together with the sixth model BIG BOLD BAPE The World, this limited-edition collection shouts out to big personalities, celebrating the world, diversity and time. However, only the World watch will be available in India. (c) Swatch The World Watch definitely counts as a piece which is a statement collectible, being a part of an exclusive limited collection with a limited number of pieces. It will be available only at the Swatch exclusive store in Palladium mall, Mumbai. Launching on the 15th of June, this limited edition piece will cost INR 9250/-. Yes, Keanu actually appeared on stage to chat about the game. Before leaving, he revealed that CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 will release on April 16th, 2020. Yeah, we're still a long way from the game's official release date, but we are quite happy that we finally have a release date. Now, we just wait to see if we get to play alongside Keanu or against him!
  21. Hi, I'm 23 and I have only travelled to like 3 countries in my life. That's it. But, a 21-year-old just became the youngest person ever to travel to every single country in the world. Recently, Lexie Alford managed to reach probably the most difficult country to step in - North Korea - and completed her mission of travelling across the world's 196 sovereign nations. View this post on Instagram OFFICIALLY TRAVELED TO EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLDð𤯠â â â â â â â â â it's crazy to have years of hard work culminate into one single moment. Turns out, she started on this record-breaking journey without even knowing about it. Since her family owned a travel agency, she has been travelling to new places since she was a kid. I graduated from high school two years early and had gotten an associate's degree from a local college. I was ready to start my gap year when I dropped the idea of going back to school and began to pursue the record full-time.” And, she pays for everything herself as well: “I always knew I wanted to take time off to travel so I've been working every job I could find and saving since I was 12-years-old.” View this post on Instagram Curious girl ð A post shared by Lexie Alford (@lexielimitless) on Oct 23, 2018 at 10:30am PDT She also talked about how she manages her finances so she can go to new places and have new experiences. 22. After waiting for more than a week since their warm-up match against Bangladesh, the Indian cricket team finally made their ICC World Cup 2019 debut against Faf du Plessis' South African team and played a wonderful game of ODI cricket in chasing a minimal yet tricky mark of 228. Four wickets by @yuzi_chahal and a devastating opening spell by @Jaspritbumrah93 saw #TeamIndia limit South Africa to 227 runs. Watch all the wickets here! ⤵ #CWC19 pic.twitter.com/2zXVB5XMnw — ICC (@ICC) June 5, 2019 While a huge chunk of the credit for the victory goes to Yuzvendra Chahal for his 4-wicket-haul and Jasprit Bumrah's highly effective and economical bowling (economy of 3.5 runs), there was one man who stood between the Proteas and their first win of the Cricket World Cup 2019 like a brick wall, Rohit Sharma. But it was #TeamIndia's day, their successful chase led by a superb ð¯ to @imro45 which included 13 boundaries and a pair of sixes. Watch the highlights here! ð #CWC19 pic.twitter.com/iKt5er9r82 — ICC (@ICC) June 5, 2019 Scoring a brilliant and unbeaten 122 of 144 deliveries, the 'Hitman' stuck to the crease despite his opening partner, Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli being removed from the pitch quickly. As the opener for the Indian batting order, Sharma stayed in the middle of the action right from the beginning till the end and saw Hardik Pandya be done with the match with a crackling boundary in the 48th over. Now, Rohit Sharma is one of the greatest batsmen to put on the blue jersey and represent our nation in international competitions but you've got to agree that the 'Luck Gods' were smiling at him throughout the match saving him from heading back to the pavilion on multiple occasions. © Reuters Ever since the first over, Sharma's wicket was up for grabs. First he unintentionally flicked the ball to the backward square leg but the fielder was two to three steps away from the spot where the ball landed, then he was dropped between point and backward point. South African skipper, Faf du Plessis also dropped Sharma's catch at second slip and finally Sharma survived yet another scare thanks to David Miller who dropped a dolly at silly mid off late in the game. So, there are only two logical reasonings for Rohit Sharma getting so many lives at the crease last night. Either the Proteas fielding was just horrible and deserves all the criticism in the world, or, it was Nita Ambani and her world-renowned beliefs that provided Rohit Sharma with the kind of luck he needed in his 2019 World Cup opener. And the fine people of Twitter seems to concur with this theory: Faf after the match : If nita ambani hadn't visited the stadium rohit sharma wouldn't had scored a century and we would had taken those catches.....#INDvSA — Jammy (@The_WaLLLLLLL) June 5, 2019 When Nita Ambani spotted in the stadium Rohit Sharma : ððð¤£ð¤£ð¤£ pic.twitter.com/njL8B4TWDX — Thakur S P Parmar ð®ð³ (@IamErSPSingh) June 5, 2019 Hope Nita Ambani has tickets to all the games... 23. A few years ago, if we'd have told you that circus animals would be replaced with holograms, you'd have laughed at our faces. But what if we told you that now it's a reality and the Circus Roncalli in Germany actually replaced real animals with holograms to entertain people? Yes, it's just as awesome as it sounds. Here, check it out - Replacing real animals with holograms is a great idea because it's important that we treat animals fairly and fight against animal cruelty. The Circus Roncalli in Germany was set up in 1976 and it's quite awesome to see such an old circus trying to be a pioneer in the fight against animal abuse. So, the circus uses holograms to add animals to their performances with the help of eleven projectors set up across the venue. They have performing animals such as elephants, horses, monkeys, and even fish. They do look very realistic, don't they? © YouTube It's also worth pointing out that the circus made history by becoming the first to replace real animals with holograms. Not only are they putting across a great message to stop animals cruelty, but the circus authorities are also saving a lot of money in the process, since they don't really have animals to feed or transport. Obviously, not everyone will enjoy this, but it's indeed a creative way to showcase what technology can achieve and how it can benefit mankind. Now, let's hope this act will serve as an inspiration to others and we get to see more creative ways of delivering good entertainment.
  24. Here's some excellent news for all animal lovers across the board. The Haryana and Punjab High Court has declared the title of “legal person or entity” to animals in Haryana, granting them the “corresponding rights, duties and liabilities of a living person” and we can't help but feel absolutely elated with this piece of information. (c) Pintrest The ruling has come out nearly a year after the Uttarakhand High Court passed a similar order “to protect and promote greater welfare of animals”. And guess why? Because both the orders were written and passed by Justice Rajiv Sharma, who was transferred from the Uttarakhand High Court to the Punjab & Haryana High Court in Chandigarh. “The corporations, Hindu idols, holy scriptures, rivers have been declared legal entities and thus, in order to protect and promote greater welfare of animals including avian and aquatic, animals are required to be conferred with the status of legal entity/ legal person” - Justice Rajiv Sharma (c) Twitter Justice Rajiv Sharma This is a fantastic stance taken towards animal welfare in the country and we hope things take a turn for the better where wildlife and animals laws are concerned, all over. “The animals should be healthy, comfortable, well nourished, safe, able to express innate behaviour without pain, fear and distress. They are entitled to justice. The animals cannot be treated as objects or property,” the verdict states. That is indeed true. Which means, no animals are now to be found carrying heavy weight, any weight that burdens them or be used for sheer entertainment or even stuffed into a vehicle, that may bring them grave discomfort or ill-health. This is what we need to implement in smaller towns, where animals are treated like a sheer commodity and nothing else. Among the guidelines that were issued by this verdict, the Justice Bench headed by Justice Sharma directed the Haryana Government that draught animals will not carry more than the prescribed weight while pulling a vehicle. The bench also said vehicles like bullock carts, camel carts and even horse carts need to put florescent reflectors at the front and back of the cart, so that they can be seen better, while travelling after sunset. (c)Twitter “All the citizens throughout the state of Haryana are hereby declared persons in loco parentis (meaning – in the place of a parent) as the human face for the welfare/protection of animals.” - Justice Rajiv Sharma We're very grateful towards this verdict and we truly hope more such rules are implemented for animals, for their wellbeing across the country.
  25. Yesterday's swearing-in ceremony was quite eventful, but one of the biggest things everyone realized was Sushma Swaraj won't be a part of the Modi Government 2.0. The much loved former Minister of External Affairs of India did not take part in the Lok Sabha elections this year but people still had hopes that she would get a nomination for Rajya Sabha and become a part of the Cabinet.
