  1. We’ve been compiling the greatest smartphones from each company from an era when phones used to be bold and experimental with their designs. It was a time when healthy competition resulted in great phones from every company, and one of them was Sony Ericsson. We’ve featured some of these phones in the past for being ., however, the company deserves its own list for having produced some of the greatest phones of all time. This article is all about remembering the legacy of Sony Ericsson and how it gave Nokia tough competition: 1. T68i © Sony Ericsson This was the first phone in the world that had support for tri-band compatibility, which means it could be used anywhere in the world. Countries tend to use different bands in network connectivity in different countries and this was the first phone to support it. It set a precedent for every other phone that has launched ever since, as users could use their phone in any part of the world. The phone did not even have an on-board camera, it was sold separately and could be attached for taking pictures. It was also the first phone to support two-way MMS, use an email client and compose their ringtones. The T68i was also the first phone in the world to feature a colour screen which was unheard of in 2003. 2. Sony Ericsson P-Series © YouTube/Cortado Sony Ericsson made the first true smartphones of our time that directly resulted in how smartphones are being made today. These series of PDAs were amongst the first open-source devices where third-party software could be installed. It has a full-screen design that covered with a keypad and could be used with a stylus as well. For other navigation purposes, the phone also came with a jog wheel at the top-right corner which could be used for selecting and launching applications. ' The phone also supported wireless email services using RIM (Research in Motion) technology that was later used in every Blackberry phone. The phone also had other features such as Bluetooth, GPRS, and MMS in 2003. 3. W-Series or Walkman Series © Wikipedia Commons Walkman has been Sony’s long-time brand for portable music players since the 1970s. And we got a glimpse of what the company was capable of when it came to combining music and phones. The W800 is, by far, the most notable phone with the series where it came bundled with in-ear headphones, a 512MB memory stick and a dedicated music button. The phone managed to sell 15 million units to date and remains one of the more popular phones from the company. 4. Sony Ericsson K Series © Wikipedia Commons The K-series was targeted towards photography enthusiasts where the K750 is probably the most popular phone from the series. The camera was easy to use as one just had to slide open to camera cover to turn it on. The phone even had a dedicated camera button similar to Sony’s Cybershot digital cameras. The phone later got the Cybershot branding with the K800i with better camera performance and an industry-first xenon flash. 5. Sony Ericsson T610 © Sony Ericsson The T610 was probably the most stunning phone ever made at the time, which resulted in this phone being a major success for the company. The phone had its infrared port that could be used to control TVs, vibrating alerts, polyphonic ringtones and a built-in GPRS modem. The phone looked incredible for its time and was celebrated for the curve that was divided vertically with thin metal or aluminium halves. These halves were also coloured and were available in silver, blue and red. So, these were our five best phones Sony Ericsson ever made, however, there are plenty more which were not possible to feature in one article. However, your list of the best Sony Ericsson phones can be very different from ours; let us know in the comments section which was your favourite Sony Ericsson phone of all time. 2. Remember playing Super Mario Bros. as a kid? Well, a mint sealed copy of the game just sold decades later and is now the most expensive game ever sold. The US version of the 1985 game that was never opened auctioned for $114,000 or Rs 45 Lakh. It broke the record previously held by a copy of the same game in similar condition. A sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. just sold at auction for $114,000, which is a new record for the sale of a single game. Bet the owners of the $100,000 one, which is an earlier printing, feel great today. pic.twitter.com/lVdcla8d19 — Chris Kohler (@kobunheat) July 10, 2020 The sealed copy of this particular game was graded 9.4 out of 10; a near-perfect condition the way it was sold in 1985. The game had its original packaging and came with all the instructions booklet and the original cardboard hang tab. The auction house Here’s Heritage gives a good description of the historic game that sold at their auction: “What’s the deal with cardboard hang tabs? one may, understandably, wonder. Cardboard hang tabs were originally used on the US test market copies of black box games, back before plastic was used to seal each game. As Nintendo began to further establish their company in the US, their packaging was updated almost continuously. Strangely, the addition of the plastic wrap came before the box cutting die was altered to remove the cardboard hang tab. This rendered the functionality of the cardboard hang tab completely useless, since it was under the plastic seal. There are four sub-variants of the plastic sealed cardboard hang tab box (this particular copy of Super Mario Bros. being the “3 Code” variant) that were produced within the span of one year. Each sub-variant of the cardboard hang tab black box, produced within that timeframe, had a production period of just a few months; a drop in the bucket compared to the title’s overall production run. © Nintendo and YouTube In short, the cardboard hang tab copy of any early Nintendo Entertainment System game brings a certain air of “vintage” unrivalled by its successors.” Being an early version of the game since many variants came out, later on, makes it even more valuable. The game not only has great nostalgia factor, but it was also the highest-selling game on the original Nintendo Entertainment System. We don’t know who purchased the game for such an exorbitant amount as wealthy collector tend to stay anonymous. Do you remember owning a cartridge of Super Mario Bros.? Well, you never know it might be worth something if its in the right condition. View the full article
  3. On World Social Media Day, letâs talk about how the internet has become an integral part of our lives today. Be it expressing oneâs opinion on on-going issues, sharing information to help people on a mass scale or even making ridiculous videos just for the heck of it, days without social media seem to be impossible to bear. This transformation has taken place over the past decade with people beginning to understand its true potential in the early 2010s and capitalising (some even abusing) it by 2019-2020. But before the era of digital media began to catch pace, there were certain individuals, certain members of the international cricketing fraternity who made it to Twitter well ahead of everyone else but werenât too sure of what to do once they were there. Here are the first tweets shared by international cricketers: Virat Kohli@yuvsingh09 Aiieeeeeee me too me too â Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) September 4, 2009 Yes, Virat Kohliâs first tweet was a clearly excited reply to Yuvraj Singh who was looking forward to a match. Anil KumbleFinally on Twitter...& on a day that am a yr older and hopefully wiser! Looking forward...cheers â Anil Kumble (@anilkumble1074) October 17, 2014 Back in 2014, when former Indian head coach Anil Kumble entered the big bad world of Twitter, he wasnât too sure of how itâd help him. A couple of years later, he would drop a bomb on the same social media platform, presenting his resignation as coach publicly, while putting Kohli under spotlight. Yuvraj SinghComing Soon !!!! â Yuvraj Singh (@YUVSTRONG12) July 25, 2009 You know itâs 2009 when a cricketer teases his Twitter debut MS Dhonifeels good to be connected!!!!!!!! â Mahendra Singh Dhoni (@msdhoni) September 17, 2010 If Mahendra Singh Dhoniâs Twitter handle could speak, it would sound just as humble as the former Indian skipper himself. Sachin TendulkarFinally the original SRT is on twitter n the first thing I'd like to do is wish my colleagues the best in the windies, â Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt) May 4, 2010 The âgod of cricketâ made his arrival in style. âFinally the original SRT is on Twitter,â he said. In the same post, he also showed why he was Indiaâs beloved poster boy when it came to the game of cricket when he wished his team well ahead of a Windies tour. Ajinkya Rahane Am in England now..Ready to have PLAY.. â Ajinkya Rahane (@ajinkyarahane88) August 28, 2011 The deputy in-charge of Indiaâs Test team wanted to give an update to his fans. 4. Nokia, in the early and late 2000s, made some incredible phones with designs that can be described as iconic. We instantly recognise them even if we saw it twenty years later. However, there were some equally cringe phones launched by Nokia that were just an eyesore. While this is our list of the weirdest phones launched by Nokia in the past, do let us know in the comments whether you liked these phones or have suggestions of your own: 1. Nokia 3650 © Wikipedia Commons The Nokia 3650 wasnât particularly an ergonomic phone neither pretty to look at. It was just weird and the phone was supposed to be a âbusinessâ phone as well. It was also very heavy because of the larger battery and had a very weird rounded bottom. The keypad layout is by far the strangest thing weâve seen by Nokia that resembled a rotary landline phone. Using this phone wasn't particularly fun nor easy which makes this phone a part of this list. 2. Nokia 3200 © Youtube_Adria_n Alco_n Z_urawka Yet another phone that had a strange keypad design and awful colours that didnât really appeal to everyone. The keypad was laid out in a square sequence where two buttons were joined together which wasnât a great idea. Thankfully, you could get rid of the weird colours with an interchangeable cover to make the phone look more presentable 3. Nokia 5510 © Wikipedia Commons The Nokia 5510 was meant for people who loved to text and stay connected with their friends and family. It had a QWERTY keyboard that was present all over the phone which, in turn, made it look extremely ugly to look at it. Ergonomically, the phone did not have any grooves or curves for the fingers to rest and was quite heavy to use. Users would also have to hold the phone flat to their face as the ear speaker was placed at the bottom right of the device when holding in landscape mode. 4. Nokia 7600 © Wikipedia Commons The Nokia 7600 was particularly an odd phone by the Finnish company as it didnât really adhere to any phone design. The teardrop-shaped phone was more like a small box and make it impossible to use with one hand. Calling was always difficult and the keypad layout was very unconventional. Nokia definitely missed the mark with this one. 5. Nokia N-Gage © Wikipedia Commons Although weâre big fans of the second iteration of the phone, the original N-Gage was a disaster because the phone design was not completely thought through. The phone was targeted towards Gameboy Advance users who wanted a gaming phone. The odd thing about this phone was that the phone had to be held on its 90-degree edge to make calls that made everyone look like an idiot in public. This led to Nokia redesigning the phone and launching the N-Gage QD later on. View the full article
  5. Ever since Pornhub has offered their âpremiumâ services for free to everyone, the website has seen a sudden spike in traffic from all over the world. Since people are forced to stay at home in order to self-isolate due to the outbreak of COVID-19 virus, visits to the website had increased. However, whatâs more shocking is that the website was being visited at different times of the day. Previously, Pornhub would see a surge in traffic during the late hours of the night. However, now that everyone is quarantined, the website is getting visitors during all hours of the day. © Pornub âTraffic had increased by 13.7% on March 20th, but a massive increase of 18.5% occurred on March 24th when it was announced that Pornhubâs Premium service would be free to all visitors worldwide for one month to encourage people to stay at home and help flatten the curve of new COVID-19 cases,â Pornhub said in a blog post. © Pornub In Indiaâs context, traffic on Pornhub largely remained below 1% until March 5. However, ever since the country has gone on a pan-India lockdown, the website has seen a sudden surge in the traffic. Whatâs interesting is that the adult website saw a spike in traffic the moment Pornhubâs premium service was made free for everyone. From India, there was an increase of 23% in traffic recently, probably because of the free premium services. © Pornub India is not the only country where Pornhub has gained more traffic. The highest traffic jump in countries without the free membership offer came from Hong Kong, which reached 42.5% ever since premium services went free. © Kyivpost The porn site is currently offering premium services for free without the need of adding any banking or credit card details. These services will last for 30 days and if you wish to subscribe to the service, it costs $9.99 per month. Besides, Pornhub is also giving out 100% payout to content creators during the month of April. The adult website started to offer free memberships to encourage people to stay indoors and even changed their logo to âStay home Hubâ to get the message across. View the full article
  6. Yesterday, Apple announced a couple of new additions to both its iPad as well as the MacBook family of products. The new iPad Pro comes with an optional new keyboard case with a trackpad. It's called the Magic keyboard and will cost you a ton of money. That said, the Magic Keyboard looks like a very promising piece of hardware that makes deciding between the iPad Pro and the new MacBook Air a lot harder. You're essentially looking at two similarly sized portable devices. And they both have a keyboard and a trackpad too if you buy the Magic Keyboard for the iPad. View the full article

  8. When most of us sit comfortably inside our air conditioned offices and crib about the poor sewage system, and the garbage thrown on the footpath (which some of us are partly responsible for), some people are busy running around in the scorching heat sweeping the roads. Or climbing down the sewers and gutters and picking garbage from the streets. They are the sanitation workers. While most of us give disgusting looks at the sanitation workers and the work they do, no one can change the fact that the entire country will come to a standstill if they stop working. They are the backbone of this country and Ratan Tata just reiterated the same and why it's important to give them the respect they deserve. © Instagram The 81-year-old tycoon shared a heartwarming video today featuring a young kid who begins with explaining how his father's job is as important as any high-paying so-called 'respectable' job. "Mera baba desh chalata hai (my father runs the country)," the kid says in the video explaining his father's job that no father would want. The kid says how his father is not a politician or a doctor, a cop or an army man, but without his father the country would come to a halt, "Agar nahi jaayega mera baba kaam par, to ruk jaayega India ka har ghar (If my father doesn't go to work, every household in India will come to a halt)." He further says, "Sometimes I worry my father will lose to these diseases." © Instagram So, how did Tata come into this whole picture? It's because the video is a part of Tata Trusts' campaign 'Mission Garima' that aims to "reduce manual intervention of the workers with sewage and waste." "Mission Garima, For our very brave sanitation workers #twobinslifewins. In Mumbai, a city of 23 million, only 50,000 individuals are employed as sanitation workers. They are working in difficult conditions every single day to tackle the enormous amount of waste that Mumbai generates,â reads the caption. View this post on InstagramIn Mumbai, a city of 23 million, only 50,000 individuals are employed as sanitation workers. 9. âWhich actors would you like for your film, Mr. Anderson?â â...Yes.â If youâre a fan of Wes Andersonâs work, particularly with Searchlight Pictures, you have seen some of the most delightful stuff to ever be captured on film. Generous, sweeping pastel palettes, acting choreographed with razor-sharp finesse, and of course, the glorious, glorious symmetry thatâs become synonymous with the filmmaker. © Searchlight Pictures Thereâs plenty of reasons to be excited for the upcoming film, The French Dispatch - but before we get into excited adulations surrounding what might just be the most âWes Andersonâ film by Wes Anderson, take a look at the trailer, which just dropped this Thursday. The trailer opens with Bill Murray as Arthur Howitzer Jr., editor of the French Dispatch - described in the trailer as âa factual weekly report on the world of politics, the arts â high and low â and diverse stories of human interest.â Anderson happens to be a collector and fan of The New Yorker magazine - and the journalists depicted in the film as well as the stories they follow seem to be loosely inspired by the unique, thrilling and often bizarre tales youâd find during the publicationâs heyday in the 1950s. It also seems that the film jumps back and forth in time a la The Grand Budapest Hotel - playing around with colour, black-and-white and in a delightful nod to classic cinema, old-school aspect ratios. It appears that the central plot of this film weaves itself around three particular stories, hunted down by the Dispatchâs legendary journalists. © Searchlight Pictures âThe Concrete Masterpieceâ is the subject of the first story - reported by J.K.L. Berensen (Tilda Swinton). The masterpiece itself is an enigmatic painting produced by an apparently psychopathic, imprisoned artist - Moses Rosenthaler (Benicio Del Toro), whose muse Simone (Lea Seydoux) also happens to be his jailer. Things take a turn for the intense as art dealer Julien Cadazio (Adrein Brody) shows up with one thing on his mind - to get Rosenthaler to part with his beloved painting, no matter the cost. © Searchlight Pictures If youâve ever watched Bernardo Bertelucciâs The Dreamers, youâll like this one. Deeply influenced by the 1968 student riots in Paris, âRevisions To A Manifestoâ is written by Lucinda Krementz (Frances McDormand), and follows the story of two young French revolutionaries - Zeffirelli (Timothee Chalamet) and Juliette (Kyna Khoudri). While this little vignette seems to have the least footage in the trailer, we do get a rather funny, mysterious glimpse of Zeffirelli interrupted during a shower by Krementz, who seems to be... crying? © Searchlight Pictures Again - if you dig Wes Anderson, it would come as no surprise that heâd sneak in food critic Roebuck Wright (Jeffrey Wright) into the Dispatchâs battalion of front-line reporters. The filmmaker has always enjoyed creating marvelous setpieces revolving around food, and this one takes the cake - no pun intended. âThe Private Dining Roomâ revolves around a master chefâs (Steve Park) unique dining experiences, and one particular dinner where a guest (Mathieu Amalric) receives a chilling phone call, informing him that his son has been kidnapped. Itâs speculated that actors Williem DaFoe, Liev Schrieber, Ed Norton and Saiorse Ronan also have a part to play in this delectable tale. Owen Wilson and Christoph Waltz are also casted - along with a bevy of exceptional French talent. While the film is slated for a July 24th release, itâs to be expected that the film will have a special screening at this yearâs Cannes Film Festival, which will be held a bit earlier this May. If only we had a few tickets to France... View the full article

Out of all of them, if there's one B-town star who has time and again given us insights into his zany sneaker collection, it's Rajkummar Rao. He has made a sumptuous statement with his versatile pairs and every time he is spotted, we make an effort to dig deeper to find out what's on his feet. © Viral Bhayani Take a look here: © Viral Bhayani One word of advice: it might appear like these shoes are tricky to pull off but investing in them guarantees a double dekko. Even though LED luminous shoes seem to be a thing of the past, they still look sleek and classy in their own way and can instantly rev up your ensemble. Coming to Rajkummar's outfit, he was seen casually strutting with his partner Patralekhaa Paul and Arjun Kapoor. He was seen wearing a denim zipper shirt with classic jeans. Add to that, his adidas cap elevated his laid-back airport ensemble even more. View the full article
  11. Okay, letâs not beat around the bush with this one. The Hummer line of SUVs were the most iconic offroaders that we have ever come across. Such has been the appeal of the American offroader, that everyone who had a massive influence on pop culture and sports, bought one. © GMC Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh had one customised, and so did Captain Cool. A number of Punjabi pop singers as well like Mika Singh and Jazzy B, painstakingly got the SUV imported, at a time when getting a car imported in India meant jumping through hoops after hoops and running one gauntlet after the other. © GMC But the sad reality is, all the three Hummers, the H1, the H2 and the two H3s were atrocious in every way imaginable. The driving experience was abysmal, the fuel economy was a joke at best, and if your country did not have an authorised dealer, finding spare parts outside the US was a nightmare. This wouldnât have been a problem, had the carâs drivetrain not been as fragile as a glass figurine. © GMC It shouldnât come as a surprise that as iconic as the car was, it never really took off commercially outside the US. And therefore, in 2010, the brand shut its door, just after 12 years of commercial operations. All that remained, was their military side of things, which had started in 1992. © GMC; The Humvee, Hummerâs predecessor, as commissioned by the US Armed Forces Cut to 2020 and it seems that the poster boy for Sports Utility Vehicles is all set to make a resounding comeback. And, if General Motors actually deliver what they say they plan to, it may very well turn out to be the comeback of the millennium. © GMC First, there are the numbers that it boasts of. GM claim that the Hummer EV will have an output of 1000 bhp, which is a figure eerily close to the original Bugatti Veyron. As for the torque figure, GM claims that the powertrain driving the Hummer EV will have 11,500 lb-ft or just about 850 Nm of torque, which puts it in eerily close to the Lamborghini Urus, the fastest SUV that we have. Now, all of these figures come with a gigantic asterisk and are not set in stone. So, it should be interesting to see what GM actually offers us when they finally reveal the Hummer EV in May this year. However, given where we stand today, a few things stand clear. Firstly, even if Hummer misses out on these numbers by 10 per cent, they still have an engine thatâs close to 1000 bhp. That, coupled with the fact that they end up with a torque figure of about 800 Nm, should make them unbelievably fast. © GMC; The Hummer HX Concept Car by GM Also, their target of hitting 100 kmph in about 3 seconds means that acceleration is a priority. Now, like most electric cars, Hummer EV should be able to put the power to the road the moment someone touches the accelerator, which should make it go off like a stabbed rabbit. With that being said, it is imperative for GM to keep the EVs light, which has been a chink in GMâs armour and can prove to be even more bothersome, considering how electric vehicles tend to weigh a lot more because of their batteries. © GMC; Digital Rendition of The Hummer HX Concept Car It will be actually interesting to see how GM & Hummer play this out. Thereâs also the fact that Tesla has a much more solid version of the Cybertruck in works; Ford too, has an electric pick up truck in the works. As for us, like most millennial petrolheads who grew up fantasising about driving down a mountain in our bumblebee yellow Hummer H2s, we too will be waiting for May this year with bated breath. 12. Rajkummar Rao is the man of the hour. He gave us some impeccable movies in 2019 and he is on a roll, we would say. It's not just his powerhouse acting that we relate to but we admire his sartorial game as well. Apart from being fashion-forward, Rajkummar is also a low-key sneakerhead. Be it his bubble sneakers or translucent boots, his shoes instantly ramp up his debonair. © Viral Bhayani © Viral Bhayani After the launch of futuristic Archlight footwear, Louis Vuitton dished out this on-trend chunky pair that's currently in rage. Now, if we speak of its price, it's truly heart-racing as these are available at $1230 on LV's website. This means that they easily cost about Rs 87,000, sans import duties and customs. 13. Dramatic, over-the-top and outlandish are the three words that best describe Ranveer Singh's persona and not to mention, his fashion sense. He has a reputation for his unpredictable style that raises the eyebrows of the people on the internet. Even then, he never fails to take us by storm with ensembles that we cannot possibly imagine wearing ourselves. © Viral Bhayani At the screening of Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak, he upped his debonair in a classic blue suit and just the next day, he took an unconventional route and sported something truly spine-chilling. He carved his niche of quirky fashion yet again wearing the creepiest jacket that we have seen till date. Don't believe us? Take a good look here! © Viral Bhayani © Farfetch Ranveer is wearing The Clockwork Orange Jacket by Undercover. This piece is emblazoned with an iconic scene from the film featuring a man's face with clamps that's holding his eyes open. A quick look at it and you would see how creepy it looks. The evocative story has been well put with this photographic print. 14. People say that you don't realise the worth of something until it's taken away from you. Most of us realise it during Navratri every year, when we don't get to eat your favourite non-vegetarian dishes. Well, you can have 100 problems in your life, but thanks to one guy you will now have to solve only 99 of them. The guy is Anand Mahindra and he's not exactly a problem solver but his Twitter account sure is, where he shared this brilliant solution to our food woes. Anand Mahindra has a knack for finding the funniest, unique and sometimes the most absurd things happening around the world and, thanks to him, we came across this one-in-a-million pure-vegetarian restaurant. So, what's so special about it, right? This restaurant serves everything 'veg', including veg fish fry, veg chicken rice and veg mutton dosa. An example of how Incredible India really is. 15. The 77th Golden Globe Awards just took place in Hollywood and we weren't shocked with the results. Well, at least not where Joaquin Phoenix was concerned! The actor won a Golden Globe for best actor in a motion picture drama for his role as a troubled Arthur Fleck in Joker. While winning the award is one thing, giving one hell of an acceptance speech is another and that's exactly what Phoenix ended up doing at the Beverly Hills Hotel. After acknowledging his fellow nominees in his speech, Phoenix, who has never been keen on award shows as such said- "There is no F***ing best actor". © Twitter He also went on to thank Todd Philips, the writer and director of Joker and also said, "I'm such a pain in the ass, I cannot believe you put up with me.” in his speech. Even though a lot of his speech was bleeped while he was on stage (since he used a lot of 'F-word'), he nailed the way he delivered every aspect of it. The words chosen and the sentiments behind those words, everything was appreciated not just by the audience present there but by the Twitter world as well. "Contrary to popular belief I don't want to rock the boat. The boat is fucking rocked," is one of the things he said. Phoenix even talked about climate change where he thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for its meat-free meal, while stating "recognizing and acknowledging the link between animal agriculture and climate change. It's a very bold move, making tonight plant-based,” "We don't have to take private jets to Palm Springs ... I'll try to do better, and I hope you will too." the vegan actor added. © warner Bros Pictures Not only did Phoenix think the awards are quite useless in general, he also talked about social issues everyone should be concentrating on currently. And he did all this while still celebrating the work of his fellow nominees. Quite an actor, if I may say so myself! Obviously the Twitter fraternity lauded his speech and praised it to no extent! The tuna was caught off northern Aomori Prefecture and weighed 276 kilograms (608 lbs)TOKYO: A bluefin tuna sold for 193.2 million yen ($1.8 million) in the first auction of the new year at Tokyo’s Toyosu fish market, the second highest price on record, NHK broadcaster reported. The tuna was caught off northern Aomori Prefecture and weighed 276 kilograms (608 lbs), according to NHK, which translates into a price of about 700,000 yen per kilogram. The successful bidder was Kiyoshi Kimura, the head of the company that runs sushi restaurant chain “Sushizanmai,” NHK said. Last year Kimura paid a record 333.6 million yen for a tuna at the auction, exceeding his previous record price in 2013.
  17. Photo: AFPPARIS: Paris Opera has lost more than 12 million euros (13.3 million dollars) in a month-long strike by ballet dancers fighting to cling onto pension rights that date back to the "Sun King" Louis XIV. The opera -- one of the oldest and most prestigious in the world -- confirmed to AFP that the dispute is now the costliest in its history, with 63 ballet and opera performances cancelled since dancers walked out on December 5. Technical and backstage staff have joined them on the picket lines as part of a wider clash over French government pension reforms that has paralysed the country's public transport system for nearly four weeks. While the opera has seen plenty of strikes by stagehands, it is almost unheard of to have dancers downing tutus. Their decision to take to the streets for the first time in the opera's 350-year existence made international headlines. The month of transport disruption caused by the general strikes has also been a disaster for French theatres and concert halls with scores of shows cancelled and actors playing to almost empty houses on what should be the busiest nights of the year. With the opera warning that the lost box office takings have already sunk a huge hole in its budget, France's culture ministry told AFP that "talks are going on with the management and the staff" to resolve the standoff that wiped out its usually crowded Christmas programme. Ancient rightsIn a bid to win back the hearts of frustrated fans, the striking dancers gave a free performance of parts of "Swan Lake" on the steps of the Opera Garnier in the centre of the French capital on Christmas Eve. But that has not stopped them digging in their heels, determined to hold onto a unique system which allows them to retire at 42. Its origins date to the 17th century and Louis XIV, a mean dancer himself who knew the crippling toll performing at the highest level can take on dancers'bodies. Dancers have already rejected a watered down proposal that would have the change only affect those who joined the ballet after 2021. A former director of the opera warned that this row was different. Most strikes have been about "pay or working conditions and have never generally lasted longer than a few days," said the ex-director, who did not want to be named. "We have to avoid a systematic blockage and keep dialogue going," he insisted. Fears for future"We have to come up with a retirement system which involves helping them retrain because a lot of dancers get into great difficulty" after retiring, having sacrificed most of their lives to the ballet, he told AFP. Almost all come through the ballet's training school as children. As it stands, the French state picks up half the bill for the opera's 14-million-euro pension fund, which has nearly 1,900 members. But with losses piling up, the opera's outgoing director Stephane Lissner is worried about the coffers being drained for future productions. In an internal letter seen by AFP, he warned that the strike is "affecting our relations with the public". The opera later told AFP that it will be "making a number of gestures to audiences" to make up for the cancellations. Even so, rehearsals are still going on for upcoming productions, with the French baritone Florian Sempey tweeting that he was looking forward to appearing in the "Barber of Seville" and star dancer Hugo Marchand sharing a video of himself limbering up for "Giselle". The last major strike at the Paris Opera in 2007 led to the cancellation of 17 performances, costing the institution 3.2 million euros. The same year Dorothee Gilbert was named principal dancer after a memorable strike-hit performance of "The Nutcracker" done without costumes or a change of decor.
  18. 2020 should be the year of firsts. I mean, it's the actual end of a decade and the beginning of a brand new one, so if you add things you've never accomplished before, to the 2020 list, there is a possibility of absolute success. Well TBH, I am not sure about that but there's no harm in being thoroughly optimistic, is there? © Thinkstock In the same vein, if you've been searching for love and haven't found it yet, there's a good chance that you can find it in the new year. Letting go of old dating patterns and finding new ones is the best thing to do, to shed some negativity where love is concerned and you can only do that, if you truly believe you will find it. We can help you a little more in recognising and knowing what you need to do to find brand new live in 2020, or fall in love for the first time in an absolutely new decade. Here are 3 ways you can find love in 2020! (1) Make Sure You're Ready To Date While heartbreaks are synonymous with bringing in the new year, you have to know for certain if you're ready and willing to date someone new. If you're not, that's alright too, take your time. Sometimes a bad break up or the fact that you're still stuck in the single's haze can make you realise you're not ready to move on with anyone at all. So, weigh your feelings and if you're ready to date, put yourself out in the market. © MENSXP (2) Get Off The Apps Sure you can still use apps to find that significant other. That's the only way to find someone these days, TBH. But if you want to explore this a little further, maybe finding someone organically can be better. Be more social in your endeavours, head out more and meet people. Not just at bars, but at social gatherings, festivals, events and things that happen around the city. Chances are you might meet someone with similar interests. © Youtube (3) Declutter Your Surroundings Since it's the new year and possibly the new you, start by decluttering everything around you. Things you don't need, things that are lying around gathering dust. This is an important exercise to make space not just in your immediate surrounding but also your mind and the emotional space, inside. If you have to welcome someone new into your life, it's best to declutter the past or any other emotional baggage you've been holding onto. Cleaning your immediate surrounding and decluttering your space can help a great deal with this. © Thinkstock While 2020 comes with a lot of promises, it's also a challenging decade. Finding love should be one such challenge because honestly, it's time we go back to finding love organically, in a more old-school way, only because it lasts longer. So, here's conjuring a boatload of luck for you to find the love you need in the year 2020. View the full article

  20. As a 28-year-old man about to build a Lego set the box of which says 'Age 9+', I told myself the same thing I'd been telling everyone else for years as far as Harry Potter is concerned: "This is not for kids." My firm belief was reiterated once I opened the box and saw the contents inside. Nope, no way can a 9-year-old finish building this monstrosity, I told myself. © MensXP It was the biggest puzzle I'd ever seen in my life. To make things more exciting (and terrifying), this puzzle was 3D. Once I saw the actual Lego bricks and the instruction manual, I felt what Hermione probably felt before her OWLs - a strange mix of elation and anxiety. As much as I wanted to do it all by myself, I realized I probably will end up building it till the next morning and end up missing work. I did what a Dilli Ka Launda would inevitably do during a crisis - called up my homies. © MensXP As four of us finally sat down with a mission, it became evident that I was right. Just like non-Potterheads mock the Potterverse with jibes like 'How is a grown man like you still stuck on to Harry Potter?', while being absolutely clueless about the intricacies of the series that are anything but juvenile in nature, what lay in front of us was a full-blown project, that only intellect and focus could have carried through to completion. (Yes, the manual had explicit instructions, what's your point?) © MensXP We started out by building the characters. There were eight characters, and this particular set was based on the Goblet of Fire narrative. We had Dumbledore and the trio, Madame Maxime, Cedric Diggory, Viktor Krum, and Fleur Delacour. © MensXP We did have some unfortunate mixups that left us in splits, but we did manage to get them all out flawlessly. Interestingly, all of them had two faces - one happy and one sad that could be rotated (an irony how Professor Quirrell wasn't a part of the set tbh). © MensXP The attention to detail in the set, in all its minuscule cuteness, was astounding, to say the least. The smallest of the tables had about 20-25 parts to them and took quite some time to build. © MensXP This particular set was based on the Hogwarts Clock Tower, and every nook and corner had so many parts to them, that we ended up feeling like the founders themselves. © MensXP © MensXP The backside of the castle was open, and it contained familiar locations. It consisted of multiple elements from the castle, like Dumbledore's office and the Prefects' bathroom. © MensXP As we kept building, we kept discovering the other locations - the hospital wing, the Defence Against the Dark Arts class, as well as the enclosure where the Tri-Wizard Cup was placed. © MensXP It also contained the Yule Ball dance floor that was made of gears, that rotated. The characters could be placed on them, making actual pairs out of them. © MensXP After what seemed like 3 whole hours, we finally put it all together, and this is what it looked like. © MensXP © MensXP © MensXP Honestly, this low key felt like a real trip to the Hogwarts castle, while drowning us all in nostalgia. However, this also left us with a few questions about 4 men in their early '30s deriving so much pleasure and excitement out of something that is supposedly meant for kids' entertainment. I got in touch with Lego and ended up asking them about whether adults legit make up a part of their target audience, and was thrilled to find out that I was right. "The Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOL) are also very vital for us as they are our brand ambassadors and it is our constant endeavour to bring in various pop culture collaborations like Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Bugatti etc. which play a huge role in strengthening our bond with them. We have a wide gamut of challenging themes like Creator Expert, Technic™ and LEGO Ideas, which are fast-moving amongst AFOL. We are also launching the latest range of LEGO Star Wars in late 2019, which will be another interesting and awaited range for our adult fans", I was told. © MensXP Well, let's just say we all celebrated the fact that we finally did something constructive (literally) over the weekend to help us take a walk down the memory lane inside Hogwarts, while offering a much-required breather to our livers. It was a win-win! View the full article

  23. People in Delhi NCR region are living in the worst times currently as the entire city feels like a gas chamber. It has become difficult to breathe and to be outdoors without a mask isn't even an option anymore. However, the smoke and pollution have also crept into our houses, even the underground metro stations. People are gasping for fresh air in and around the city, and Air Quality Index (AQI) has touched 999 in some parts of Delhi and NCR. The air quality is deteriorating at an alarming rate. Even more than 120 hours post Diwali, the air quality is getting worse minute by minute instead of improving. AQI India, recently, shared the 24-hour time lapse video on November 3 which looks totally frightening. The video shows the visibility getting drastically reduced in comparison to the night of November 2. 24. At 34 years of age, Pankaj Advani has already achieved everything there is to achieve in the world of snooker. A 23-time World Champion who has an amazing hat-trick of hat-tricks in English billiards, with the World, Asian, and Indian National Championship titles simultaneously in his name in five different years, yet the man is as humble as one can be. Always the first to extend his hand for a handshake and introduce himself even though the world knows about him, one wonders where does he get his humility and meekness from? View this post on Instagram Sport is an art. The essence of art lies in its intensity! #gameface #flashbackfriday #billiards #snooker A post shared by Pankaj Advani (@pankajadvaniofficial) on Jan 25, 2019 at 2:45am PST Pankaj's story can be traced back to when he was merely a child who was stuck at the Belgrade airport with his family when the Gulf War broke out. Scared and all out of money, afraid for their lives, they somehow managed to make it back to India. However, their suffering had not ended yet as a couple of years later, Pankaj's father expired. “That's when my mom made the conscious decision of raising the two of us (Pankaj and his elder brother, Shree) instead of working. She wanted to spend more time nurturing us,” the cueist told MensXP. Every day after school, Pankaj would follow his brother and his friends back to a snooker parlour, where he'd just watch them play for hours. For the first three weeks, he didn't even touch the cue because he was short and underaged. So he sat in a corner and tried his best to understand the game. “I am really good at observing things so I'd watch my brother play and try to understand the technicalities of the game. I would notice his stance and the way he bridged,” he said. Finally, Pankaj decided to give the game a shot. He said, “I tried to implement whatever I'd observed and when I struck the ball, it went inside the pocket and then there was no looking back.” View this post on Instagram Qualified as India number 1 for the World Billiards Championship in Myanmar in November, 2018. #billiards #worldchampionship #lookingforward A post shared by Pankaj Advani (@pankajadvaniofficial) on Oct 10, 2018 at 8:26am PDT The 23x World Champion believes that he was extremely fortunate to fall in love with the game of snooker at an early age of 11 and says that even his mother was glad that it kept them away from all the distractions children go through during their teenage years. Advani also has his school Frank Anthony Public School and college Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College to thank behind such a successful career of his. “My education was taken care of. My school and college have been really supportive of my career. When we started playing it was considered to be an unconventional sport but the best part was that our school encouraged us when they saw us succeeding. I even got to miss a few exams,” he said with a smile. View this post on Instagram In 1996, as a 11 yr old kid, I saw Arvind Savur for the first time at the Karnataka State Billiards Association. After a few weeks, I mustered the courage to ask him to coach me. He refused saying that I was too short and it would affect my technique in the long run! I was heartbroken. Few months later, surprisingly, he came up to me and said '' Now you are ready.” I was thrilled!!! Ever since he took me under his wings, I rapidly improved my game and grew as a player. Arvind Uncle has had a huge role to play in my success. So thankful to this amazing, selfless human being for coaching me without charging a single penny for it ðð»Happy Teachers Day!! #teachersday #gratitude #coach #guru A post shared by Pankaj Advani (@pankajadvaniofficial) on Sep 5, 2018 at 5:54am PDT Even with the kind of support he got from his school and his brother, money was a big issue for him. “I remember when I was 14 years old, my mom had to break an FD so that I could go to England to play my first ever international tournament, representing india,” he remembers. “It is so odd and unfortunate to think how difficult it is to get financial support when you are struggling and in desperate need of money but when you are well known, that kind of support comes flowing in, but I guess everything paid off in the end.” Back in the day, Pankaj was this extremely soft-hearted person who instead of calling out his fellow classmates for doing something wrong, would try to find a way to fix the mistake. He has clearly come a long way since then. Now, he believes that if there's something that needs to be said, he would say it. “I feel like If you are holding yourself back all the time, you are living in a world of pretend,” he said. I was slightly busy winning a few Gold Medals for India ðð https://t.co/iafpxSWP82 — Pankaj Advani (@PankajAdvani247) October 1, 2019 “I don't respond to each and every unfair comment on the internet but if and when someone crosses the line, I would not keep quiet.” For someone who calls himself an artist rather than a sportsperson, the cueist doesn't believe planning his retirement. It would not be after he wins a certain number of world championships or when he reached a particular age. It will happen when he believes that he is ready to retire. As a fan of Tennis legend Roger Federer, Pankaj feels that there is a need for individual athletes to think beyond their own good and work towards having a bigger impact their sport and society. It is because of this very reason that the 34-year-old has started an initiative called Cue School by Pankaj Advani, with a mission to introduce cue sports in schools and ensure that young kids get the chance to start playing as soon as possible. View this post on Instagram More pics from the launch of Cue School yesterday. Was great having top lady players @varshaa_sanjeev and @keerthana_147 inspire the kids to take up cue sport! If he doesn't inspire you to become a good cueist, let him inspire you to become a good human being.
  25. Hardik Pandya sure knows how to turn heads with his eccentricities and the aberrant sartorial choices he makes. From a pyjama set that's worth over one and half lakh rupees, to wearing a watch worth Rs 80 lakh, while recuperating from a surgery, still being in the hospital, the man has done it all. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 However, he is not really known for pulling off an outfit that people would consider “classy” or elegant. Sure, he was something beyond this world when he walked the ramp for designer Amit Aggarwal, but that's a different case altogether. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 Subtlety is clearly not Hardik's strong suit - that distinction goes to his elder brother, Krunal. However, this time around, Hardik changed the tune, and stepped out in one of the most elegant outfits that we have seen this year on a cricketer. In fact, we have to say, one of the classiest outfits this year, period. © Viral Bhayani Hardik attended Mukesh Ambani's Mumbai Indians' Diwali bash in a masterfully crafted bandi from Shantanu and Nikhil, and boy oh boy, did he look good. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 The bandi is masterfully designed and crafted, using an embroidered fabric with floral motifs and design. The appeal of the bandi is further accentuated with the two sets of riveted leather strips that run horizontally across the front. © Viral Bhayani The cherry on top of the sartorial cake that this ensemble is the intricately designed chained brooch that Hardik is wearing as an accessory. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 Speaking of accessories, he is again seen wearing his Patek Phillipe Nautilus Chronograph, worth Rs 80 lakh to the party. The watch, coupled with the tinted sunglasses, completed the look. © Viral Bhayani Hardik's decision to pair the bandi with a fairly simple kurta shirt, brown linen trousers and a pair of tan monk straps was a wise one. When you already have a statement piece such as the bandi, you don't really need much else to make one cracker of an ensemble. © Viral Bhayani Plus, given the eccentric manner in which Hardik usually accessorises, in this instance his watch, his jewellery and sunglasses, anything else that could potentially draw attention, would have been a tad bit too much. © Viral Bhayani All we can really say is that we're actually kind of digging this outfit. Spot on, Hardik! A great ensemble indeed.
