Ajinkya Rahane's Father Arrested After His Car Mowed Down & Killed A 67-Year-Old Woman

While Indian cricketers, including the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and others have been winning accolades for their exploits on the field, Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane has been going through a rough patch with little runs to show and limited opportunities at hand.

The 29-year-old, who is currently plying his trade in the ongoing three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, has been restricted to the sidelines with Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan looked upon as first-choice openers for Team India. In the only ODI game he played against the Lankans, Rahane managed to score just five runs before struggling further in the Test series.

Clearly, the times have been hard for Team India's vice-captain on the cricket field. But, recent developments suggest that the troubled times have now transcended from Rahane's cricket career into his personal life as well.

To make matters worse for him, it has been reported that the Mumbai cricketer's father Madhukar Baburao Rahane has been taken into police custody on alleged charges of mowing down a 67-year-old woman in Kolhapur.

According to media reports, Madhukar was driving his Hyundai i20 on National Highway No. 4 when he lost control of the vehicle in the Kagal area and accidentally hit a woman named Ashatai Kamble. The victim was taken to the nearby hospital where she later succumbed to injuries.

The Kagal police station registered a case against Madhukar under section 304 A, 289, 337 and 338. Rahane's family - his father, mother and sister - was headed to Tarkarli in Konkan via the Pune-Bengaluru highway for a vacation when the unfortunate accident left them shell-shocked.

Rahane is scheduled to leave for South Africa along with the Indian team for the highly-anticipated tour which includes three Tests, six ODIs and three T20Is. With a lot of pressure to perform amid immense criticism, the latest developments are bound to add to Rahane's woes.
