According to a report by Reuters, Apple is all set to commence the manufacturing of the iPhone SE in Bangalore later this year. Two weeks ago, the IT minister of Karnataka announced that Apple is looking to start production of devices by the end of April and this report supports the announcement as an industry insider revealed Apple’s plans.

It was further reported that Apple is looking to manufacture anywhere between 3 Lakh and 4 Lakh iPhone SE units in India and the plant will be handled by Taiwanese manufacturer, Wistron.
Apple’s move to manufacture in India makes sense since cheaper and smaller models of the phones are extremely popular and it might help Apple maximise profits by reaching a certain target audience. The SE is packed with a powerful A9 processor and 4-inch Retina display. The phone is also capable of shooting 4K video with the 12-megapixel primary camera on board.

The iPhone SE originally launched in India with a price tag of INR 39,000 however one can purchase the phone today for INR 30,000 from various e-commerce websites. Manufacturing the iPhone SE in India would grant Apple tax benefits and can drive the price down even further. It will help Apple capture the Indian smartphone market and also introduce services like Apple Music and iTunes to the masses.
