Indian-Origin Prison Officer Wins MasterChef Australia, Plans To Run A Restaurant With Ex-Convicts

There are people who love to eat, there are people who love to cook and then there are people like me, who love both and have subscribed to a gazillion cooking and food channels on YouTube. And if you are anything like me or one of the million viewers who love to watch people flaunting their culinary skills, chances are that you might have followed this year's MasterChef Australia as well.

MasterChef Australia 2018 was arguably one of the most exciting reality shows of this year. The finale, which was way better than the icing those contestants put on their cakes, gave the world Sashi Cheliah, a name people won't forget anytime soon.

Indian-origin Sashi Cheliah created history by becoming the show's highest scorer ever (93 out of 100). He defeated Queensland's Ben Borsht to clinch this victory. But, more than his win, it is his story and future plans that is turning heads everywhere.

Who would have thought that an advertisement of MasterChef Australia on Facebook will change Sashi's life for good? Sashi's love for food grew after he moved to Australia and now, he wants to replicate authentic Indian, Malaysian and Chinese cuisine.

Sashi has won $250,000 (Australian dollars) as prize money and now, he dreams of opening a restaurant that will serve Indian and South-East Asian cuisine.

In fact, Sashi wants to hire ex-prisoners in order to provide them assistance, rehabilitation, and employment opportunities.
