An African Country Is Trying To Ban Porn And It's Hilarious

Porn has been around for decades, we all remember the days of passing around CDs with movie covers. Distribution of the forbidden content is now done online and thanks to deep internet penetration worldwide, the volume at which we are consuming porn is enormous. While it continues to remain a forbidden thing in many cultures including India, there have been no signs of consumption going down.

While many countries like the USA have accepted the hard truth that porn is practically unstoppable and better to function like every other industry with regulations, Uganda thinks in the opposite direction. Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has given out a directive to all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country to block 27 websites for streaming porn.

Godfrey Mutabazi, Executive Director of the UCC said they have identified 17 popular local sites as well as 10 international sites and have asked ISPs to block them.

He also added, "The commission is in receipt of a list of Internet sites with pornographic content from the Pornography Control Committee. The committee has established that the list of the websites attached hereto is currently streaming pornography to Uganda in breach of section 13 of the Anti-Pornography Act, 2014."

Back in 2016, the country had announced the purchase of a pornography-detection machine and it was set to arrive in September 2016; thankfully we haven't heard more on that since then. Seems like the policy-makers are busy "identifying" porn websites since it's actually their job now.

The country also has a special Pornography Control Committee (PCC), it is responsible for generating the list of banned websites and block them by coordinating with the ISPs.

This isn't the first time we are hearing weird laws and regulations coming out of the country though. In June, Uganda's parliament passed a law that let the government tax the use of social media platforms like WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook and more. President Yoweri Museveni had pushed for the changes, arguing that social media encouraged gossip.

The President has also said in the past that he wants to ban oral *** in the country because he believes the mouth is only for eating.
