Awards are a wonderful way of validating the love and recognition that an individual earns in a particular field. 

The FIFA Player of The Year award is obviously a big deal when it comes to watching your favourite football player take the coveted trophy home and talking of top contenders, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo obviously top the list.

The awards are decided on the basis of the votes by the captains of international teams, managers and designated media officials of the industry, and this year, the prestigious award was won by Luka Modric, Real Madrid's Croatian midfielder.

Post the ceremony, FIFA announced the votes of Ronaldo and Messi respectively and people on social media can't stop gushing over Messi, after it was revealed that he had nominated Ronaldo for the award.

However, Ronaldo didn't vote for Messi, as his list of nominees included Raphael Varane in the first position, with Modric as the second and Antoine Griezmann as the third.

While Messi and Ronaldo's fans are busy shooting their opinions across the internet over the award, neither of the star players attended the event this year.
