The iPhone XS Max Has The Second Best Smartphone Camera In The World

Ever since the iPhone XS and XS Max launched, the smartphone is being tested for various features. One of those features that were tested is the dual camera setup on the iPhone XS Max. DxOMark, a digital camera testing lab just classified the iPhone XS Max as one of the best mobile cameras ever tested. What should be pointed out is that the iPhone XS Max was not able to secure the top spot which is being occupied by Huawei's P20 Pro.

The Huawei P20 Pro scored a 110 score which is just a tab bit higher than the iPhone XS Max that scored 105 in the same test. DxO engineers passed their judgement on the iPhone XS Max based on over 1,500 images and at least two hours of video. The test included capturing images in every environment and lighting condition. If you're interested in reading the full report, you can read DxO's analysis here

    iPhone XS Max Camera Specifications

    Dual-camera setup

12Mp main camera with 1/2.55″ sensor (1.4µm pixels) and six-element f/1.8-aperture lens, 26mm equivalent focal length

    12Mp secondary 2x tele-camera with 1/3.4″ sensor (1.0µm pixels) and six-element f/2.4-aperture lens, 52mm equivalent focal length

Optical image stabilization on both lenses

    Phase-detection autofocus (PDAF)

    Quad-LED dual-tone flash

4K video at 30/60 fps, 1080p at up to 240 fps

In DxO's test summary, the report had this to say

“If we had to pick one aspect of the camera that could be improved, it's zoom performance,” the DxOMark report summary said. “While zoom has been slightly improved compared to last year's iPhone X, the iPhone XS Max zoom images showcase luminance noise and less detail than some high-end rivals, such as the Huawei P20 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.”

DxOMark said that the iPhone XS Max had excellent video quality with a wide dynamic range in bright light. It had “spot on” exposure in outdoor images and the Portrait Mode had “very good subject isolation.”

The iPhone XS Max performed exceptionally well apart from a few key areas where it could not beat the P20 Pro. Huawei may just use this report to troll Apple as the Chinese company has been doing so ever since the iPhone XS' launch. Recently, Huawei gave out power banks to Apple fans waiting in line for the iPhone XS and it seems like Huawei may just continue the dissing after this report.
