Shashi Tharoor Lays Down Guidelines For Men To Act In The Times Of #Metoo

"The #MeToo controversy has at least made men more conscious of their behaviour & women of their rights," said Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in a series of tweets, as the #MeToo movement continues to gain momentum in India.

What started as an allegation by Tanushree Dutta against Nana Patekar, has now turned into a raging movement, which has left the whole nation fuming with anger as more names continue to pop up every day.

On days when he is not busy giving social media tongue-twister words like 'floccinaucinihilipilification', he is busy giving his opinion on hot, relevant issues, and this thread is one such example.

Reacting to the ongoing movement, Tharoor on Sunday, posted a series of tweets in support of all the women who are coming forward with their stories.

He wrote, "The #MeToo issue is about more than creepy sexual behaviour; it's about exploiting a power differential -- producers/directors>actors, editors>reporters, bosses>employees. Victims were told "not to make it an issue" in order to preserve their careers & reputations. Monstrous."

For those saying that these allegations are false, he said, "given that power equation, the best weapon victims have is to shame their tormentors by public exposure. Where charges are totally unfounded, the truth will emerge. But it takes a lot for women to come out &the wealth of detail suggests most of the #MeToo accusations are real."

Tharoor also wrote about gender sensitisation in homes, schools and workplaces; and how the next challenge is to instil a culture of true respect for the dignity and autonomy of women.

The #MeToo controversy has at least made men more conscious of their behaviour & women of their rights. The next challenge is to instil in society a culture of true respect for the dignity & autonomy of women. That needs real gender sensitization in homes, schools, & workplaces.

From Alok Nath, Vikas Bahl, to Rajat Kapoor and Sajid Khan; many prominent personalities have found their names in the list of sexual offenders. Sadly, with each passing day, this list only continues to grow.
