Hereandamprsquos How Priyanka Chopra Bolllywood andamp The Rest Of Twitter Reacted To The Nirbhaya Verdict

On 16th December 2012, a heinous crime shocked the whole nation. A paramedic student was gangraped on a moving bus and she succumbed to injuries 13 days later in a hospital in Singapore. In 2013, one of the main suspects was found hanging in a prison cell in Tihar jail, while another suspect, who was a juvenile at the time of the crime, was given a sentence of just 3 years in a juvenile home.

The other four convicts received a death sentence by the trial court, and the decision was upheld by Delhi High Court calling the crime one of the β€œrarest of rare” cases on March 13, 2014. But, the convicts appealed to challenge the HC verdict in the Supreme Court. Now, the Supreme court has finally passed its verdict, calling it the β€œmost brutal, barbaric and diabolical attack” on the victim.

The four convicts in the December 16 case β€” Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur β€” have been given a death penalty.

A lot of people, including Bollywood celebrities, came out and talked about the crime and the verdict. Priyanka Chopra posted an emotional note on Twitter and said she is β€œproud” of the justice system.

More celebrities tweeted about the verdict, appreciating the fact that justice has finally been prevailed.

Even hanging the 4 criminals is not enough justice but it should serve as a reminder that how india deals with this crime #Nirbhayaverdict

This is what people on Twitter had to say, many of them even went on to say that the juvenile convict also deserves to be hanged.

Why has the juvenile been spared? Minor for a capital punishment, but mature enough to brutally rape a girl?#Nirbhaya #DelhiGangRape

Instead of hanging & giving them a easy death, I would like to see them begging for death everyday for the rest of their life.#Nirbhaya

Still remember what doctors who first treated #Nirbhaya had told our reporter: "We haven't seen anything like this in our career"

The Juvenile allowed to walk free.He was old enough to commit a heinous crime like Rape but not old enough for Punishment. Why??#Nirbhaya

Even today after #Nirbhaya so many women continue to be raped/ humiliated and denied justice. I hope today we reach out to them as well
