Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now become the most followed leader on Facebook globally, and has even surpassed United States President Donald Trump, according to an Economic Times report.

According to the data, PM Modi's Facebook page tops the list in terms of followers, but his official page - PMO India - ranks third on the basis of followers. βThis is the new form of public governance,β said Ankhi Das, Public Policy Director, Facebook India, South & Central Asia.
βHe is reinforcing the importance of internet platforms as an input factor, tool for better productivity, higher output creating brand recognition, and accessing global markets,β she added.
Back in May 2014, when Modi was elected as the Prime Minister of India, he had 14 million likes on his Facebook page, and now that number has increased to 41.9 million.

In terms of interactions, the data also shows that union ministers Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, General VK Singh, Piyush Goyal and Arun Jaitley are the most followed after Modi. And when taking ministries with highest interaction on Facebook into consideration, three ministries - Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Railways - have bagged the top three spots.
The data further showed that Modi's three signature initiatives, Digital India, Make in India and Swachh Bharat saw the most interaction on social media.
