Former president and Co-chairman Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari on Friday condemned a statement by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif against the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) and demanded the remarks be withdrawn, said a statement released by PPP.

He also asked the chief minister to issue an apology over the ?unwarranted and provocative? remarks.

The chief minister had accused the apex court of partiality and discrimination and only holding the Sharif family accountable, added the statement released by the PPP.

?It is shocking that from the picture of Hussain Nawaz appearing before the JIT Shahbaz Sharif should have concluded that the Supreme Court was aiming only at the Sharif family,? said the former president.

Zardari added that former prime minister Benazir Bhutto would sit on a pile of bricks outside prisons with children in her arms seeking justice, yet the PPP did not accuse the SCP of ?training guns on the party?.

?The PPP believes in across the board accountability of all but at the same time it will not permit subverting the lawful investigative and judicial processes to escape accountability,? added Zardari.

The former president also urged members of the legal fraternity to take notice of Shahbaz?s ?threatening and derogatory remarks?.
