He was the first person to make Batman a household name on the bigscreen and on our television sets. This is something he will always be remembered for.

Some of our younger audience may even recognize him as the Mayor of Quahog in 'Family Guy'. Yup, that's the same Adam West.

Unfortunately, West passed away on Friday at the age of 88. He had been battling leukemia. Family and friends have already issued statements regarding his passing. But, there was no dearth of people, famous and otherwise, expressing their grief regarding the passing of their favourite caped crusader.

Here are some of the tweets:

When I was a kid POW BLAM Adam West was Batman! With his pal Robin and his tongue planted firmly in his cheek he brought me so much joy. ;^}

On a personal note, Adam West helped me grow up into the person I am today. I will be forever grateful to him for that. May he rest in peace.
