Stylist Rin Jajo Shows Us How To Wear Skinny Jeans Right

For the 33-year-old stylist, fashion consultant and hypebeast—Rin Jajo—fashion was always his first language. And after having styled for over a decade, Rin now has developed a unique taste and a signature sense of style. A spiffy combination achieved using—almost seamlessly—hyped-AF streetwear pieces paired with skinny jeans, nerdy glasses, and a fedora-for-all-seasons. And, when not styling or consulting for some of the coolest menswear brands in the business, he’s either busy clicking aesthetically LIT Polaroid photos, or collecting brands like Anti-Social Social Club, Gosha Rubchinskiy to name a few. For our ‘30 Days Of Denim’ challenge, we asked Rin to basically recreate his own signature style of wearing really skinny jeans with everything. Because if it’s not broken why fix it? Read our interview with him below, on how to style, wear and love skinny jeans.

Tell us about Your first denim purchase...

My first pair of jeans were a pair of vintage Levi’s 501's that had this amazing worn-in feel to them. They were essentially hand-me-downs from my dad. But I was around 13 (or 14), and naturally, it was way too big for me. But, hey it was the 90s so it totally worked!

How often do you wash your jeans and why?

To basically address the elephant in the room, I’ve never had a smelly Jeans moment. And, I have this pair of raw Khadi denim from a cool indie brand called, Korra that I haven’t washed yet because I don’t wear them too often. I want to wear it out way more often before the first wash. But as a rule, I wash my jeans after 3-to-5 wears.

Dark washed or light washed. And why?

I veer towards dark washes because they’re easier to style.

    Ripped or distressed. And why?

This is really funny but I had a really (really) ripped pair, knees all torn out and all that, and now I feel silly about having worn it at all, so distressed it is.

    Love or Hate skinny jeans?

    LOVE.

Your go-to denim outfit? and Why?

It’s basically T-shirt, denim, and sneakers. Easy, breezy and beautiful!

    What’s your go-to denim brand?

I’m not too particular but this little-known indie brand, Korra—that makes the most amazing raw and selvage denim jeans and jackets—is a current favorite. Every pair is made by one person at their workshop and I’ve had two made to my specifications. Also, they have some nice jackets.

One unusual denim hack that only you know…

I’m pretty sure it's common knowledge, but frayed cuffs work well with jeans so if it's too long don’t fold it up, just chop it off.

Blogger, Abhinav Mathur On Why Green Denim Brings The Girls To The Yard

‘30 days of Denim’ is a social experiment of sorts, or in layman terms, the ultimate Denim guide, on how to inject your personality, and inherent sense of self into, say, a basic-ass pair of jeans. Bonus: It features 30 really cool men, all with very distinct style sensibilities, but primarily, each having an innate love for all things denim.
