ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday extended his deepest sympathies to the government and people of China over the devastating landslides that hit the country recently.

At least ten people have been confirmed dead and 93 are missing after the landslide engulfed Xinmo village in mountainous Sichuan province on Saturday. Heavy rain triggered the landslide, authorities have said.

According to the press release, the prime minister in his message to Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang said: "I have learnt with great distress and sorrow the news of the devastation caused by the recent landslides in China. On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims and their families.?

The statement further added:?The Pakistani nation stands in solidarity with our Chinese brothers in this difficult time as they face the devastation caused by the landslides with strength and grace."

The government of China has sent some 3,000 rescuers, along with heavy digging equipment, and has promised to do all it can to look for survivors.
