COAS reaches Parachinar as protest enters eighth day
PARACHINAR: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa reached Parachinar Friday morning, the military?s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement.
The army chief will meet the tribespeople who started protesting after two blasts rocked Parachinar, Kurram Agency on June 23.
The grieving locals continued their protest on the eighth day, Friday, demanding safety and protection for all.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced compensation money for the families of people killed and those who were injured in the Parachinar blasts on June 23.
As per the announcement, Rs1 million will be given to the families of people killed in the blasts while Rs0.5 million has been announced for those left injured by the explosions.
At least 75 people lost their lives and over 300 were injured in the back-to-back bombings that hit the city on June 23. The first blast occurred as people were busy shopping for Iftar and Eid in the Turi Bazaar area, close to a crowded bus terminal in Parachinar.
The second explosion took place as people rushed to provide aid and rescue the wounded from the first explosion.
