After a disappointing run in South Africa, Shreyas Iyer has roared back to form in the just-concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka.
The middle-order batter amassed 204 runs in just three innings in the shortest format. He finished with three back-to-back half-centuries and was the standout performer for Rohit Sharma’s side.
View this post on Instagram
Before the start of the series, Iyer was unsure whether he would get a chance to feature in the playing XI or would warm the bench like he did for the majority of the previous series against the West Indies.
As they say, one person’s loss is another person’s gain. The 27-year-old was drafted into the playing XI after Surykumar Yadav was ruled out with an injury and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
View this post on Instagram
After his heroics in this series, it’s hard for us to imagine him being dropped on the bench but this a few weeks back it wasn’t the case.
Last year, he missed a major chunk of action due to his injury. For a player there is nothing worse than an injury but for Iyer there was something that was much worse. He was ruled out of the first leg of the last year’s IPL and his place was taken up by Rishabh Pant.
View this post on Instagram
“Injury. That was a bigger low. If that didn't happen they wouldn't have stepped me down as a captain,” Iyer told TOI in an exclusive interview.
In 2019, Iyer had guided Delhi Capitals to a third place finish in the points table, which was a major improvement from the previous year where they had finished rock bottom.
View this post on Instagram
After finishing third in IPL 2019, the Delhi-based outfit went a step further the following year and reached the summit clash where they lost to Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians who clinched their fifth IPL trophy.
Ahead of the 2021 season, the injury was a huge setback but he had hoped to get his captaincy back after completing his rehabilitation. However, that wasn’t to be as the franchise decided to continue with Pant at the helm.
View this post on Instagram
For a player who was the face of the franchise a few months back, for him to lose his leadership position must have been a huge setback and this pain was visible in his words. It’s true that had he not sustained that injury, he wouldn’t have been replaced.
Under Pant, DC finished on top of the points table and it convinced the owner that he was the right guy to lead them moving forward.
View this post on Instagram
However, Iyer believes the success that the franchise was able to produce was a result of all the hard work that the team had done in the last two years when he was at the helm.
“At Delhi Capitals, you saw the reflection of the environment at the start of 2021, which we created in 2019 & 20. The atmosphere was amazing. The players knew each other inside out, their strengths and weaknesses. I don't want to get deeper into it,” he added, before restricting himself.

Iyer now has a new responsibility on his shoulders as the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have appointed him their skipper. It’ll be interesting to see how he fares in his new role.

For most people, the definition of being strong and fearless starts with and ends at how much they can bench press at the gym. However, the real definition of fearless is when you dive headfirst into a situation that you know could end as badly as ever.
As was the case with this Ukrainian man who recently went viral for doing something that left all of us open-mouthed.
As the war between Ukraine and Russia goes on, civilians on the Ukrainian side of the border have been trying to fight tooth and nail to defend themselves against the Russian soldiers.
And this war-like situation has thus exposed them to a certain degree of danger.
A Ukrainian in Berdyansk spotted a mine on the road and didn't wait around for a bomb disposal unit - at great risk to life and limb, he removed the mine, clearing the way for the Ukrainian military. pic.twitter.com/iC9ZTrixlC
— The New Voice of Ukraine (@NewVoiceUkraine) February 27, 2022
Trying to dissipate this danger was one Ukrainian man who was caught on camera while moving a land mine with his bare hands and taking it across the road, into the woods. All the while, smoking a cigarette and not giving a damn about the worst that could happen.
Shared several hundred times on Twitter, people are lauding the man for his lion-heartedness and how he didn’t decide to wait for the bomb squad, but instead tried taking care of the mine himself.
Reports share, he did so to clear the way for the Ukrainian army, even if it would have come at the cost of losing his own life.

— Sav (@savricas) February 27, 2022People, who were mighty impressed with his stunt, as well as amused, are dropping comments like, “We need them in NATO”, while another wrote, “Ukranians are some of bravest people I have ever seen!”

— anwesha // the world stands with ukraine (@1dadoptedkid) February 27, 2022
The video that was shared by the page ‘The New Voice of Ukraine’ has already garnered over two million views since it was published, with more than two thousand comments. In fact, people are calling this one of the bravest acts they’ve seen in Ukraine till now, even more so because the man didn’t even stop smoking when he had a mine in his hand.
Guess, one thing is certain with Ukrainian people, they neither give up nor scare easy!

May his soul rest in peace!
Several Indian students who had gone to Ukraine for their studies have been requesting the Indian government to evacuate them due to the continuing war between Ukraine and Russia.
Across the country, students are taking refuge in metro tunnels and makeshift underground bunkers to avoid the Russian Air Force's constant bombings and the army's on-ground activity.

After the mega-success of Kabir Singh in 2019, Shahid Kapoor has several interesting projects in his kitty. The Bollywood star, who is waiting for the release of Jersey, is currently busy with Ali Abbas Zafar's upcoming thriller.
The actor's market price increased after Kabir Singh and he charged Rs. 31 crores for Jersey. However, due to the film's delay amid the ongoing pandemic, he offered a pay cut to cover the losses.
View this post on Instagram
Now, the latest buzz suggests that Shahid has hiked his acting fees once again. Reportedly, the Udta Punjab star is charging 25% more than his Jersey fees for Ali Abbas Zafar's film.
Revealing the same, a source informed Bollywood Hungama, "Shahid Kapoor has come on board this action-packed thriller directed by Ali Abbas Zafar for a massive sum of Rs. 38 crores. This is around 25% more than Jersey and more than twice of what he had fetched for the game changer, Kabir Singh. He is in-fact, adopting the route of letting his work talk for his worth".
View this post on Instagram
The source added, "Every success would mean acting fees going up, and every failure would mean the acting fees coming down. It's a dynamic pricing strategy that he has designed, and at this point of time, he is confident for both Jersey and Ali Abbas Zafar’s next to fetch big returns at the box office. If the film succeeds, his asking price for the one after that would increase even further".
Looks like the actor is enjoying all the success and fame he's getting post Kabir Singh. Shahid recently turned 41 and has reportedly gifted himself a new swanky Mercedes Maybach worth crores.

Besides Jersey and Ali Abbas Zafar's untitled film, Shahid also has Bull in the pipeline. The movie is produced by Bhushan Kumar in which the Padmaavat actor will be seen in the role of a paratrooper. It is confirmed to hit the big screens on April 7, 2023.
Also, he is set to make his digital debut with Raj & DK's upcoming web series for Amazon Prime Video. Co-starring Vijay Sethupathi and Raashi Khanna, the series is expected to stream later this year.
